What Bills’ Sean McDermott said about the Jets firing Robert Saleh

What Bills’ Sean McDermott said about the Jets firing Robert Saleh

When the Buffalo Bills face the New York Jets on “Monday Night Football” during their Week 6 matchup it will look different.

The Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start. The team was fresh off a 23-17 loss to the undefeated Minnesota Vikings and there is always additional off-field headlines attached to a coach’s firing.

In New York, speculation circles around how much quarterback Aaron Rodgers played into the equation.

Regardless of all that, there is still a game to play and when a new person is in charge a locker room can become motivated.

The Bills (3-2) have to be ready for that. Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott knows that and that’s where his focus is regarding Saleh’s dismissal.

“Unfortunate part of our business,” McDermott said. “Really, for us, we’ve got to focus on our team.”

McDermott’s full thoughts on Saleh being fired ahead of the Bills-Jets meeting can be found below:

Panthers HC Dave Canales is asked about Jets’ firing of friend Robert Saleh

Panthers HC Dave Canales said he reached out to friend Robert Saleh, who was fired by the Jets on Tuesday.

Football is a tough business, and one of Dave Canales’ friends just felt the wrath of it.

The Carolina Panthers head coach spoke with reporters following Wednesday’s practice. He was asked about the firing of now-former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, whom Dave goes back with.

“I just sent him a text, just sent him some love,” Canales replied. “We haven’t had a chance to really talk about it much. But my heart definitely goes out for Robert and a bunch of the guys on the staff that are there.”

Canales and Saleh worked together for the Seattle Seahawks from 2011 to 2013. The former was serving as the team’s wide receivers coach while the latter as a defensive quality control coach.

Saleh’s Jets and Canales’ Panthers met up this past summer for a joint practice. Canales spoke about his relationship with Saleh when the session was announced back in May.

“Robert Saleh and I were quality control coaches together with the Seahawks,” he said. “We were together for Super Bowl XLVIII, and then he left shortly after that. So we have about a 13-year or 14-year relationship.”

Jets’ Aaron Rodgers makes first comments on Robert Saleh’s firing

Jets’ Aaron Rodgers makes first comments on Robert Saleh’s firing

At least publicly, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers had positive things to say about his former head coach.

On Tuesday, Saleh was fired by the Jets after a 2-3 start to the 2024 NFL season. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich was named New York’s interim head coach.

Rodgers spoke on his usual weekly spot on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday where he discussed the update for the first time.

“I love Coach Saleh,” Rodgers said. “We have a very solid relationship. We have since I met him in 2021,” Rodgers said. “He was a big reason why I came to the Jets. … It was just a reminder yesterday how tough the business is.”

Rodgers and Saleh had an interesting relationship this season.

Saleh, who was hired in 2021 and had a 20-36 overall record, had been let go amid apparent disagreements with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Following New York’s 10-9 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 4, the former head coach suggested that Rodgers’ pre-snap cadence was a problem. In that defeat, the Jets’ offense took multiple false start penalties.

Rodgers, 40, went on to suggest his teammates need to be held accountable, adding that he has not previously had such an issue with his pre-snap cadence.

Both went on to say publicially that there was no issue between the two and Saleh backtracked his original statement.

Saleh, 45, also called Rodgers’ play inconsistent after the loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5.

Regardless of Rodgers’ positive comments, only few will ever know about their relationship behind closed doors.

In addition to tipping his cap to the former Jets coach, Rodgers went on to dismiss that he had any involvement in the decision to fire Saleh.

“I resent any of those accusations,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers’ full initial comments can be found in the clips below:

Aaron Rodgers resents accusations he had role in Robert Saleh firing

Aaron Rodgers discussed Jets’ decision to fire Robert Saleh

Aaron Rodgers appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and addressed Tuesday’s firing of New York Jets coach Robert Saleh.

After gushing over his former coach and Saleh’s family, Rodgers said he “resented any of the accusations because they are patently false” he had a role in the decision to can Saleh.

Reports indicate Robert Saleh would make change on offense before firing

Reports indicate Robert Saleh would make change on offense before firing:

The finer details are a bit conflicting, however, it appears that Robert Saleh was aiming toward making some sort of change to the New York Jets’ offense before being fired by the team.

On Tuesday, the Jets decided to move on from Saleh.

Prior to that, reports indicate that Saleh had wanted to make some changes regarding New York’s offense moving forward. That appears to be certain, but exactly what the change would have been is what’s in the gray.

According to CBS Sports, Saleh had been toying with the idea of firing offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett:

But SNY has reported that the move would not have been that drastic. Instead, Saleh was considering taking play-calling duties away from Hackett in favor of Todd Downing, who is the Jets’ passing-game coordinator and quarterbacks coach:

Whichever report holds more truth isn’t all that important, because regardless, it sounds like Hackett was going to be demoted in some capacity. Moving forward, the same could still happen but that’s a decision for Jeff Ulbrich, who was named New York’s interim head coach.

Jets Wire will provide updates as information is made available.

Robert Saleh delivers classy farewell to Jets, fans

Robert Saleh takes the high road in messages to Jets and their fans

Robert Saleh was fired as head coach on Tuesday by New York Jets owner Woody Johnson.

A day after the shock, Saleh posted a message of thanks to everyone associated with the team and its fans.

The message:

“To all of the players, I truly love and appreciate every single one of you. The character of the men in the locker room made coaching you guys the ultimate privilege,” Saleh said in a statement released on Tuesday morning. “Through all the ups and downs, each and every one of you showed up everyday and attacked every moment.

“To my fellow coaches and staff, it has been an honor to work with all of you. Every one of you were ‘all in’ and made sacrifices for one another that will never be forgotten. I wish you all the very best of luck for the remainder of the season.

“To the most passionate fan base in the NFL, thank you for embracing my family. It has been a pleasure calling New York our home and we will forever appreciate all of the memories that were created here.”

Robert Saleh releases statement after abrupt Jets firing

Robert Saleh releases statement after abrupt Jets firing

Robert Saleh has broken his silence.

Following the New York Jets’ 2-3 start to the 2024 NFL season and after a 23-17 loss to the undefeated Minnesota Vikings in London, the team fired their head coach

Saleh, who was hired in 2021 and had a 20-36 overall record.

Then a lot of speculation swirled. What security used to escort Saleh from the team’s facility? Would there be bad blood because he reportedly felt “blindsided” by the decision?

From Saleh’s perspective, evidently no.

Saleh, 45, released his first statement since his dismissal. He kept it classy.

Saleh thanked the team and his players. Considering he specifically pointed out the players, it might be true that he did not get an opportunity to address them before he left. However, that’s pure speculation.

Saleh’s full statement released to the media can be found below:

“To the Jets Organization, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with so many incredible people,” Saleh said in a statement shared with SNY’s Connor Hughes. “I will always be appreciative of the love and support from everyone at 1 Jets Drive.”

“To all of the players, I truly love and appreciate every single one of you. The character of the men in the locker room made coaching you guys the ultimate privilege. Through all the ups and downs, each and every one of you showed up everyday and attacked every moment.

“To my fellow coaches and staff, it has been an honor to work with all of you. Every one of you were “all in” and made sacrifices for one another that will never be forgotten. I wish you all the very best of luck for the remainder of the season.

“To the most passionate fan base in the NFL, thank you for embracing my family. It has been a pleasure calling New York our home and we will forever appreciate all of the memories that were created here.

“With Love and Regard,

“All Gas No Brake!!!”

Salutations to Saleh but Jets’ interim HC Jeff Ulbrich is an upgrade

Salutations to Saleh but Jets’ interim HC Jeff Ulbrich is an upgrade

Goodbye Robert Saleh, and hello to the man that should be credited with maintaining team chemistry in the New York Jets locker room.

Interim HC Jeff Ulbrich has instilled a military mindset into a Jets’ defense that ranks No. 3 in opponent touchdowns allowed per game. The pre-game gatherings of defensive back Sauce Gardner and company stems from the ferocious leadership of Ulbrich who has helped ignite the potential of many, including D.J Reed and defensive end Will McDonald.

Unlike Saleh, Ulbrich won’t allow for offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett to ruin momentum with mundane play-calling. Sure, Hackett may have survived this round of bingo, but with Ulbrich in charge Jets’ fans will see an increased amount of scrutiny applied to Hackett. Therein lies the underlying disdain of Saleh amongst Jets’ fans, his unwillingness to correct the offensive approach.

Ulbrich led as defensive coordinator with real humility, being sure to refrain from meddling with the offensive personnel and forbidding from stepping on Hackett’s toes. During Sunday’s loss, NFL Network reporters conveyed that there had been a quiet aura on the Jets’ sideline and this may suggest that a growing division may have been emerging.

Ultimately, Ulbrich is an upgrade and if he can help change the offensive strategy, the Jets still have a chance in 2024.

Jets are reeling after loss to Broncos ‘shook the organization’

The Jets are spiraling out of control and it started when their loss to the Broncos “shook the organization,” according to ESPN.

The New York Jets are a mess, and the Denver Broncos are at least partially to blame.

The Jets fired coach Robert Saleh on Tuesday, two days after a 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London and nine days after a 10-9 loss to the Broncos at home. That loss to Denver apparently “shook the organization,” according to a report from ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

Former Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett has also been a hot topic during the drama. Hackett is the Jets’ offensive coordinator and New York does not plan to fire him despite their offense ranking eighth-worst in points per game (18.6) this season.

The Jets’ decision to fire Saleh and keep Hackett was a curious one, and it sparked speculation that quarterback Aaron Rodgers is running the show.

Before he was fired, Saleh was considering firing Hackett, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. Saleh ultimately opted to demote Hackett, announcing Tuesday morning that passing game coordinator Todd Downing would take over play-calling duties, according to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio.

Not long after demoting Hackett, Saleh was fired.

“It’s unclear whether the timing is coincidental or connected,” Florio wrote. “Regardless, Hackett was out as play-caller — and then Saleh was out as coach.”

Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will take over as New York’s interim head coach following Saleh’s departure. It’s unclear if Hackett will remain the playcaller under Ulbrich or if Downing’s promotion under Saleh will stand. It’s a messy situation, one that started spiraling out of control after an ugly loss to the Broncos.

As Scotty Gange of 9News pointed out on Twitter/X, Denver’s defense has gotten a quarterback benched (Gardner Minshew) and a coach fired (Saleh) over the last two weeks. We’re eager to see what follows after the Broncos host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

There were conflicting reports on what happened after the Jets fired Robert Saleh

There were conflicting reports on what happened after the Jets fired Robert Saleh

The New York Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh and then a bit of a circus unfolded.

Or did it?

We have conflicting reports.

On Tuesday, Saleh was let go by the Jets after a 2-3 start to the season.  The coach who was hired in 2021 and had a 20-36 overall record. The firing took place amid apparent disagreements with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The team had informed Saleh of their decision in a meeting which included owner Woody Johnson.

Saleh eventually left the building. That’s what happens when you’re fired. But was he escorted by security?

That was reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz and Pro Football Talk:

Doing so seems a bit… unusual. It wouldn’t really be the best look for the Jets, either.

If that’s what happened.

Follow-up reports from ESPN and SNY then stated a bit of the opposite:

The two sides of the reporting seems to be clearly coming from two different sides. Pro-Saleh and Anti-Saleh. Regardless, with this one, we’ll likely never really know exactly what this situation looked like.
