Panthers WR Adam Thielen talks about new offensive coaching staff

Panthers WR Adam Thielen: “Everyone is just enjoying being at work.”

To Carolina Panthers wideout Adam Thielen, age is just a number—a lesson that can be learned in more ways than one.

The 33-year-old receiver, who’s coming off the third 1,000-yard campaign of his career, spoke with reporters following Wednesday’s session of voluntary minicamp. He began his chat by talking about the passion of the new offensive coaching staff—specifically head coach Dave Canales, offensive coordinator Brad Idzik and his position coach Rob Moore.

“You can just feel it in meetings, you can feel it on the field that they just love the game of football,” Thielen said this afternoon. “They love to coach it, they love to see it, be around it and that stuff just kinda goes through the team, the receiver room, the quarterback room. When people love ball, it just instantly makes your mood. Everyone is just enjoying being at work.”

Canales has begun to establish a fresh and energetic atmosphere within the organization. Heck, he even lined up at running back, cornerback, edge and defensive tackle at today’s practice.

Thielen is only nine years younger than Canales and one year older than Idzik, which could help explain the connection this staff has started to make with its players. But the veteran pass catcher believes it’s more about who they actually are, and not the year in which they were born, that makes them so relatable.

“You look at a guy like Pete Carroll, right? He’s an older guy, but I think he relates really well with the players,” Thielen added. “I think it really comes down to that energy, that passion for the game and just being able to communicate with guys. I don’t think age is important in that. I think it’s just, hey, what kind of mindset do you bring to your daily routine? What kind of energy? What kind of passion? When guys can feel that and they can see it, day in and day out through the good and bad times, I think that’s when you start to earn respect as a coach and guys wanna play for you.”

13 pending offensive free agents with ties to the Panthers’ coaching staff

Mike Evans, who is set to hit the open market, had his best season in years under new Panthers HC Dave Canales.

With new head coach Dave Canales leading the transition, the Carolina Panthers have completely overhauled their offensive staff this winter. And with new faces comes new connections for the organization.

Here are 13 pending offensive free agents, in areas of particular need, with ties to Canales’ staff:

Who’s out and who’s in for the Panthers’ 2024 coaching staff

Now that the Panthers’ 2024 coaching staff is in place, let’s survey the damage.

The Carolina Panthers put the bow on their new coaching staff this afternoon.

As announced on Thursday, the team has hired five new coaches and retained 13 more. Per the official release, the moves have now rounded out the sideline staff for the upcoming season.

So, what did the turnover ultimately look like in the end?

Here are the coaching positions that underwent a change for Carolina going into 2024:

Who’s out and who’s in for the Panthers’ reconstructed coaching staff? Keep it here for the latest.

The turnover has begun.

Less than a week after the Carolina Panthers named Dave Canales their new head coach, the organization started up the reconstruction of their staff. The opening additions came on Tuesday—with the hirings of a handful of offensive assistants.

So, before we all get lost in the shuffle, keep it here as we track who’s in (and who’s out) from the Carolina sideline.

Panthers part ways with passing game coordinator Parks Frazier

Parks Frazier is the latest member of the 2023 staff to part ways with the Panthers.

It wasn’t all one-way traffic into 800 South Mint Street tonight.

On Tuesday, the Carolina Panthers announced the additions of four offensive assistants. Coming in as part of new head coach Dave Canales’ staff will be assistant head coach/run game coordinator Harold Goodwin, running backs coach Bernie Parmalee, wide receivers coach Rob Moore and offensive line coach Joe Gilbert.

But, as subsequently reported by Darin Gantt just moments later, passing game coordinator Parks Frazier has been informed that he will no longer continue with the organization.

Frazier began his NFL coaching career in 2018, as an assistant to then-Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich. He’d go on to serve as an offensive quality control coach, assistant quarterbacks coach and—when Reich was fired in the middle of the 2022 season—the interim offensive coordinator.

Reich then brought Frazier over when he was hired as head coach of the Panthers last offseason. The 32-year-old, once again, stayed on to finish out the year despite Reich’s dismissal at the end of Week 12.

Panthers hire Rob Moore as WR coach

After six seasons in Tennessee, Rob Moore has come over to Carolina to coach up the wideouts.

Shawn Jefferson is now free and clear to jet off to New Jersey.

As announced this evening, the Carolina Panthers have added Rob Moore as their new wide receivers coach. He is one of four offensive assistants the team officially hired on Tuesday.

Before becoming a coach, the Syracuse University standout compiled a pretty productive 10-year NFL career—one that resulted in a Pro Bowl selection for the 1994 campaign. A first-round pick in the 1990 supplemental draft by the New York Jets, Moore went on to record 628 receptions for 9,368 yards and 49 touchdowns over 153 games.

After working as a wide receivers coach at Montclair High School (2002 to 2003), Phoenix College (2009) and for his alma mater (2010 to 2012), Moore hit the NFL sidelines as the Buffalo Bills wide receivers coach in 2013. After two seasons in Orchard Park, he’d serve in the same role for the Oakland Raiders (2015 to 2017) and, most recently, the Tennessee Titans (2018 to 2023).

Ex-Titans WRs coach Rob Moore lands with Panthers

Former Titans WRs coach Rob Moore has been hired to the same role with the Panthers.

Former Tennessee Titans wide receivers coach Rob Moore has found a new home.

The Carolina Panthers announced on Tuesday evening that Moore has been hired as the team’s next wide receivers coach.

Along with Moore, Carolina hired Harold Goodwin as assistant head coach and run-game coordinator, Bernie Parmalee as running backs coach and Joe Gilbert as offensive line coach.

Moore was on former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel’s staff for his entire six-year tenure in Nashville. Prior to that, he held wide receivers coach jobs with the Buffalo Bills and then-Oakland Raiders.

Moore was receiving interest from multiple teams, as he was also reportedly a candidate for the same role with the New York Jets and Chicago Bears.

The veteran coach is just the latest former Titans coach to find a new job, as tight ends coach Tony Dews also landed on his feet after being hired as the Jets’ running backs coach.

Titans coach Rob Moore in the running for two different jobs

Titans WRs coach Rob Moore is reportedly in the running for two different jobs.

Tennessee Titans wide receivers coach Rob Moore is reportedly in the running for two different jobs.

According to Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky, Moore is a candidate for the wide receivers coach jobs of the Chicago Bears and New York Jets.

The Titans have reportedly parted ways with multiple coaches from former head coach Mike Vrabel’s staff, but Moore was not specifically mentioned among those let go, so it isn’t clear if he’s still officially employed.

However, the fact that he’s a candidate elsewhere would suggest he’s not going to be retained.

Moore served as Tennessee’s wide receivers coach for the entirety of former head coach Mike Vrabel’s tenure. Before that, he was a wide receivers coach with the Buffalo Bills and then-Oakland Raiders.

If Moore lands in New York, he’ll see some familiar faces, as former Titans coaches Keith Carter and Todd Downing are the Jets’ offensive line coach and pass-game coordinator, respectively.

Eagles’ A.J. Brown honors Titans WRs coach Rob Moore in commercial

A.J. Brown recently honored his former coach, Titans WRs coach Rob Moore, in a FedEx commercial.

For all the negativity surrounding Philadephia Eagles WR A.J. Brown when it comes to the Tennessee Titans’ fan base, this is one even the most anti-Brown Titans fan can give him props for.

Earlier this week, Brown detailed how much of an impact Titans wide receivers coach Rob Moore had on him during his days in Tennessee.

“Coach Moore, he was like a mentor to me, still is,” he told Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. “He helped me out tremendously. The success I have on the field really comes from him. Just laying the foundation as soon as I got to the league, teaching me things, and really steering me in the right direction.”

So, ahead of Brown taking part in Super Bowl LVII against the Kansas City Chiefs, he shot this ad for FedEx in which he honors Moore with some kind words and sends him a pair of cleats with a note on them.

“Coach Moore – When you see me making plays this Sunday, just know it’s a direct reflection of what you taught me,” Brown tweeted.

You can check out the whole video below.

Brown will be vying for his first ring on Sunday when the Eagles meet the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. Brown is one of three former Titans hoping to secure a ring, with the Eagles punter Brett Kern and Chiefs practice squad defensive back Ugo Amadi being the others.

Titans WRs coach: A.J. Brown, Julio Jones played too much in Week 1

“I probably played him and A.J. both a little too much,” Moore said of Brown and Jones.

Tennessee Titans wide receivers coach Rob Moore admitted that he thinks he played his two star receivers, A.J. Brown and Julio Jones, too much in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals, a game in which Tennessee lost, 38-13.

In that game, Jones and Brown totaled 50 and 52 snaps, respectively, and that was followed up by a Week 2 contest that saw the duo play even more snaps, with 66 and 74, respectively.

This past Sunday, both receivers saw their games cut short due to injury.

Brown reportedly suffered a strained hamstring that cut his day short after eight snaps, while Jones played 34 snaps before sitting out the stretch run of Tennessee’s victory over the Indianapolis Colts with what head coach Mike Vrabel described as tightness.

“The first game, I probably played (Jones) too much, being that he hadn’t had any training camp and any of those other things,” Moore said. “I probably played him and A.J. both a little too much, wanting to get them progressively more snaps as we got through the season. So, I got a little overzealous and obviously the score of the game was a factor in that. So, I had to dial it back a little bit, thinking about the long haul for both of those guys.”

The latest on Jones isn’t good, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that he’s dealing with a leg injury that leaves his Week 4 status up in the air.

Thankfully, the Titans have a very winnable game against the New York Jets upcoming and can afford to sit both players, even if they are healthy enough to go.
