Sooners pick up another projection for 2024 4-Star RB Jeremy Payne

The Oklahoma Sooners are trending in a positive direction for four-star RB Jeremy Payne after receiving another Rivals FutureCast prediction

The Oklahoma Sooners picked up another prediction for 2024 four-star running back, Jeremy Payne. This time from SoonerScoop.com’s Josh McCuistion.

Less than a week after receiving a Rivals FutureCast from national recruiting analyst Nick Harris, McCuistion followed that up with a favorable Sooners prediction of his own.

Oklahoma running back coach DeMarco Murray has become a machine on the recruiting trail. Though he hasn’t landed a five-star running back yet, he’s consistently landing four-star running backs for the Sooners.

If Payne were to commit, that would make the third cycle in a row in which Murray landed a four-star running back. In the 2022 cycle, they brought in Jovantae Barnes and Gavin Sawchuk. In 2023, Daylan Smothers and Kalib Hicks.

Payne is a shifty runner with breakaway speed. He regularly makes people miss in the open field. He’s got excellent vision and agility and is a threat to score every time he touches the football. In the passing game, he looks more like a wide receiver with the way he brings in the ball. He’s a natural hands catcher that will be effective down the field on wheel routes, over the middle on Texas routes, or in the screen game.

Jeremy Payne is a dynamic player that brings a home-run hitting ability that would be a huge asset for the Oklahoma Sooners if they were to land his commitment.

Sooners gaining momentum in race for California defensive lineman Ashton Sanders

Oklahoma continues to be the school with the most momentum to land three-star defensive tackle Ashton Sanders. From @thatmanbryant

Oklahoma has spent the last week and a half issuing offers for the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes. One of the late 2023 offers went out to California defensive lineman Ashton Sanders. Sanders, a three-star defensive tackle who was once committed to California. He backed off that commitment in August and re-opened his recruitment.

He received his offer on Halloween and, in short order, received a prediction from Sooner Scoop’s Josh McCuistion.

If that wasn’t curious, more recruiting insiders have also logged predictions for Oklahoma to land the disruptive interior defender. Memphis Publisher’s Bryan Moss and Badger Blitz’s Jon McNamara have each flipped their predictions from Cal-Berkeley to Oklahoma in the last two days.

Oklahoma has seemingly positioned itself in a great spot for Ashton Sanders’ commitment. Todd Bates has locked in on another player as they continue to makeover the defensive line.

He looks more like a straightforward nose tackle in a four-man front akin to current Sooner Jeffery Johnson. In that scenario, he’d line up right over the center and try to collapse the interior from there. He’s got the size and strength to play in multiple defensive schemes.

With Early Signing Day in December, Oklahoma could have an answer soon on Sanders. Sanders told 247Sports’ Greg Biggins he plans to sign at Early Signing Day and graduate high school early.

Sooners receive Rivals futurecast for 2024 QB Michael Hawkins

Oklahoma has landed its second prediction that has them landing the commitment of 2024 4-star QB Michael Hawkins.

We’ve talked in great detail at Sooners Wire about Oklahoma’s 2023 five-star quarterback commit Jackson Arnold. He’s had a heck of a year from a development standpoint and has gone from four-star to consensus five-star player in 2023.

However, the buck doesn’t stop there. With Jeff Lebby in charge of Oklahoma’s offensive endeavors, there are new philosophies on and off the field that differ from Lincoln Riley.

Riley was against recruiting quarterbacks in consecutive years. Jeff Lebby and head coach Brent Venables are taking a different approach. Both cited competition as a reason for it and in many ways it’s hard to disagree.

With that, Oklahoma’s already circling a few quarterbacks for the 2024 class despite the commitment of one of 2023’s best signal-callers.

Oklahoma received another favorable prediction for 2024 quarterback and Sooners legacy Michael Hawkins. Parker Thune issued a crystal ball projection minutes after Hawkins announced his Oklahoma offer. This time it’s Josh McCuistion of SoonersScoop.com providing a Rivals futurecast favoring the Sooners.

Hawkins is the son of Mike Hawkins, a former cornerback at Oklahoma during the 2002 season. The defensive coordinator for that 2002 team? Current Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables. Lebby was a student assistant during that 2002 season as well.

Hawkins is a dual-threat QB and would fit well in Jeff Lebby’s system. He has the athleticism to make plays in the QB run game with his feet but has a lively arm and throws a beautiful deep ball. Hawkins is a four-star across most recruiting services, but he still has two full seasons of high school ball remaining.

Oklahoma receives projections for Jacobe Johnson, includes Sooners in top 5

The Oklahoma Sooners land inside the top 5 for 2023 four-star athlete Jacobe Johnson out of Mustang, Oklahoma.

One of the biggest dominos left to drop on the Oklahoma Sooners recruiting check list is 2023 four-star athlete Jacobe Johnson. Johnson, a top three player in the state of Oklahoma, has long been projected to land with the Sooners, but has patiently been working through his process this recruiting cycle.

Johnson is ranked inside the top 50 on the ESPN 300 list and is a top 100 prospect according to On3 Recruiting and the 247Sports composite rankings. He’s a top 10 athlete in the 2023 recruiting class. Johnson released his top five on Wednesday and included the Oklahoma Sooners, Michigan Wolverines, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Stanford Cardinal.

Over the last week Parker Thune of OUInsider.com at 247Sports issued a crystal ball projection for the Oklahoma Sooners to land Jacobe Johnson. According to Thune, the Sooners plan to play the 6-foot-3 talent out of Mustang, Okla. at cornerback. All four crystal ball predictions from 247Sports favor the Oklahoma Sooners.

Shortly after releasing his top five Wednesday evening, the Sooners received another projection, this time from Rivals’ Michigan recruiting editor Zach Libby.

Johnson’s athletic profile could lend him to playing on either side of the football at the collegiate level and it looks like the Sooners will have another cornerback to add to their 2023 recruiting class that includes four-star cornerback Jasiah Wagoner.
