Oklahoma Sooners offer 2024 4-star quarterback Walker White

Oklahoma issues an offer to the top player in the state of Arkansas, four-star quarterback Walker White.

The Oklahoma Sooners haven’t been shy about trying to add quarterback talent in the 2024 recruiting class. A departure from the previous regime, Jeff Lebby wants to add a top quarterback every cycle. As they await a decision on four-star quarterback [autotag]Michael Hawkins[/autotag], the Sooners joined the fray for another top quarterback with an offer to the No. 1 player in the state of Arkansas, [autotag]Walker White[/autotag].

White is a top 10 quarterback in the 2024 recruiting cycle and ranks NO. 143 in the 247Sports composite rankings. He holds 21 Power Five offers with heavy interest leaning toward Ole Miss, Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, and Texas A&M. With the recent offensive coordinator movement, the door could have opened for the Sooners to land White.

White is a big dude at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds. Despite the size, he displays impressive athleticism and has parlayed that into some really good rushing numbers for Little Rock Christian Academy. In 2022, White ran for 837 yards and 15 touchdowns to go along with his 1,975 passing yards and 25 touchdowns.

When Ole Miss originally offered Walker White back in December of 2021, Jeff Lebby was still the offensive coordinator for the Rebels. Lebby’s connection to the talented high school prospect could give the Sooners a shot in the quarterback’s recruitment.

Sooners land Rivals Futurecast for 2024 4-Star QB Michael Hawkins

The Oklahoma Sooners received a Rivals Futurecast for 2024 four-star quarterback Michael Hawkins.

The Oklahoma Sooners still have more than a year until 2024 national signing day, but they look on the verge of landing their first commitment in the cycle at the end of January.

The Sooners received promising news on four-star quarterback [autotag]Michael Hawkins[/autotag] on Sunday. Nick Harris of Rivals issued a futurecast projecting the Sooners to land the talented four-star quarterback. That makes four predictions in favor of the Sooners.

Hawkins, who is the son of former Sooner Mike Hawkins, is a great fit for Jeff Lebby’s offense. He’s a dual-threat quarterback able to make plays down the field with his arm. Hawkins displays great contact balance and elusiveness in the pocket. Even while evading the rush, he does a great job of keeping his eyes downfield to make plays in the passing game. He’s also a fantastic runner with the speed to run away from the defense.

If the Oklahoma Sooners land a commitment from Hawkins at the end of January, it would be a phenomenal way to kick off the 2024 recruiting class. This time a year ago, Jackson Arnold committed in January. That early commitment helped the Sooners have a tremendous year on the recruiting trail for 2023. Could Hawkins’ commitment do the same for the 2024 cycle?

2024 4-star QB prospect Michael Hawkins sets commitment date

2024 four-star quarterback and Oklahoma Sooners target Michael Hawkins sets commitment date.

As we inch ever closer to 2023, Oklahoma is getting closer to finalizing its 2023 recruiting class. Only national signing day remains. As the calendar turns to the new year, the Sooners begin to finalize their 2024 big board.

The headliner for the 2023 class was consensus five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold. He’s the presumptive future of the program. However, the protocol under Venables and offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby is the Sooners will take a QB every class regardless of who QB1 is.

Enter Michael Hawkins. Hawkins, a four-star QB out of Allen High School, is one of the quarterbacks Oklahoma has been recruiting the heaviest for the class of 2024.

Hawkins is an Oklahoma legacy. His father played defensive back for the Sooners in 2002 before going on to the NFL. His defensive coordinator? Brent Venables.

Oklahoma is in a good spot for Hawkins’ services and has already received multiple projections in Oklahoma’s favor. Parker Thune of 247Sports dropped a crystal ball prediction in favor of the Sooners only minutes after the offer was announced. Their biggest competition right now is the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Michael Hawkins shared that he plans to commit on Jan. 31.

It firmly looks like a two-horse race between the Hogs and Sooners. Oklahoma probably feels most in control to land its first commit of the 2024 cycle.

Hawkins fits the mold of dual-threat quarterbacks that Lebby prefers in his up-tempo, no-huddle offense. He’s not a collegiate-ready QB yet, but Hawkins’ natural gifts and arm talent stand out on film, making him a great QB for the Sooners.

Though Allen’s season didn’t finish the way he would have liked, Hawkins’ leadership and determination stood out to Kyle Youmans of DallasCowboys.com, who was on the call for Allen High School’s playoff matchup with Duncanville. Youmans shared his thoughts with Sooners Wire managing editor John Williams on the “Locked On Sooners” podcast in December.

Sooners receive Rivals futurecast for 2024 QB Michael Hawkins

Oklahoma has landed its second prediction that has them landing the commitment of 2024 4-star QB Michael Hawkins.

We’ve talked in great detail at Sooners Wire about Oklahoma’s 2023 five-star quarterback commit Jackson Arnold. He’s had a heck of a year from a development standpoint and has gone from four-star to consensus five-star player in 2023.

However, the buck doesn’t stop there. With Jeff Lebby in charge of Oklahoma’s offensive endeavors, there are new philosophies on and off the field that differ from Lincoln Riley.

Riley was against recruiting quarterbacks in consecutive years. Jeff Lebby and head coach Brent Venables are taking a different approach. Both cited competition as a reason for it and in many ways it’s hard to disagree.

With that, Oklahoma’s already circling a few quarterbacks for the 2024 class despite the commitment of one of 2023’s best signal-callers.

Oklahoma received another favorable prediction for 2024 quarterback and Sooners legacy Michael Hawkins. Parker Thune issued a crystal ball projection minutes after Hawkins announced his Oklahoma offer. This time it’s Josh McCuistion of SoonersScoop.com providing a Rivals futurecast favoring the Sooners.

Hawkins is the son of Mike Hawkins, a former cornerback at Oklahoma during the 2002 season. The defensive coordinator for that 2002 team? Current Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables. Lebby was a student assistant during that 2002 season as well.

Hawkins is a dual-threat QB and would fit well in Jeff Lebby’s system. He has the athleticism to make plays in the QB run game with his feet but has a lively arm and throws a beautiful deep ball. Hawkins is a four-star across most recruiting services, but he still has two full seasons of high school ball remaining.

Oklahoma receives crystal ball projection after recent offer to 2024 4-star QB Michael Hawkins

Moments after he announced his offer from Oklahoma, Michael Hawkins was projected to land with the Sooners by OUInsiders’ Parker Thune with a crystal ball prediction.

Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners are having a fantastic July in the 2023 recruiting cycle and are keeping the good times rolling with a major recruiting event this week in Norman.

One of those recruits who spent time with the Sooners this week was 2024 quarterback [autotag]Michael Hawkins[/autotag] out of Allen, Texas. Hawkins’ unofficial visit must have gone well as the Oklahoma Sooners extended an offer to the four-star quarterback.

Additionally, within 10 minutes of his announcement of the Oklahoma offer on Twitter, Parker Thune, a recruiting analyst for OUInsider at 247Sports, dropped a crystal ball prediction for Hawkins to wind up with the Sooners.

After signing Nick Evers (Flower Mound) and getting a commitment from Jackson Arnold (Denton Guyer), Jeff Lebby is dipping back into North Texas for the 2024 cycle with Allen High School’s Michael Hawkins.

Hailing from the same high school as former Oklahoma Sooners great [autotag]Kyler Murray[/autotag], Hawkins is considered a top 15 quarterback in the cycle according to On3 Sports and 247Sports. ESPN has him as the No. 6 quarterback prospect for 2024, and Rivals ranks him as the No. 4 dual-threat quarterback in the cycle.

Hawkins is a fantastic athlete, displaying the open field speed and agility to be a weapon as a ball carrier at the collegiate level. He’s deadly in the read-option game, showing off great acceleration after the fake to get up field and to the second level in a hurry. He’s got the speed to run away from defenders.

As a passer, Hawkins displays the arm strength to make all the throws. He does a really good job of working through progressions and throwing on the move going both to his left and his right.

Given that his offer and the crystal ball came so closely together, the Sooners look to be in a great spot to get a commitment from Michael Hawkins in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
