Steelers among betting favorites to sign Odell Beckham Jr.

Could Odell Beckham Jr. join the Pittsburgh Steelers? Betting odds from Bovada suggest it may be possible as the AFC playoff race heats up.

Could recently released WR Odell Beckham Jr. don the Black and Gold as the 2024 season comes to a close? Bovada, a popular betting site, certainly believes so, as the Pittsburgh Steelers are currently tied for the second-highest odds of landing the former All-Pro wide receiver.

The Steelers are tied with the Baltimore Ravens at +280 odds to sign Beckham, while the Los Angeles Rams, the current favorites, have +225 odds at landing him.

With major concerns surrounding the Pittsburgh wide receiver room, worsened by star WR George Pickens’ recent hamstring injury, the Steelers landing Beckham may not be so far-fetched.

Realistically, Beckham could easily thrive as a WR2 or WR3 in today’s NFL, and his connection with QB Russell Wilson would make the Steelers’ offense even more dangerous.

Steelers WRs Mike Williams and Calvin Austin haven’t done enough to inspire confidence that they can step up in Pickens’ absence, but Beckham would provide a welcome veteran presence as the AFC playoff picture begins to take shape for the Black and Gold.

Could Odell Beckham Jr. sign with the receiver-hungry Steelers?

With the Pittsburgh Steelers in desperate need of WR help, could the team potentially sign the recently released Odell Beckham Jr.?

In what is shaping up to be an up-and-down roller coaster for the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver room over the past few weeks, one recently released Miami Dolphins receiver could make all the difference for the Black and Gold.

Former All-Pro WR Odell Beckham Jr. and the Dolphins have mutually agreed to part ways, with Beckham seeking opportunities for playing time elsewhere.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were in desperate need of receiver help heading into the 2024 regular season, and it remains their biggest area of concern with major implications looming over the next few weeks.

With Steelers WR George Pickens out with a hamstring injury and no return date given, Beckham and the Steel City seem like a match made in Heaven.

Beckham would instantly be an upgrade to the depleted Steelers wide receiver room, and when Pickens is healthy, this terrifying tandem would be tough for opposing secondaries to contain. In the meantime, Pittsburgh Steelers WRs Calvin Austin III, Mike Williams, Van Jefferson, and Scotty Miller will do their best to fill the void left by Pickens.

Chiefs cut former draft pick, two-time Super Bowl champion from practice squad

The Kansas City #Chiefs cut Cornell Powell from their practice squad this week after they signed ex-#Patriots WR Tyquan Thornton.

According to a tweet from NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Kansas City Chiefs have released wide receiver Cornell Powell from their practice squad.

Powell was selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2021 draft out of the University of Clemson.

Despite an impressive showing at the NFL combine, the former Tiger was signed to Kansas City’s practice squad where he has spent the majority of his career in the league.

A two-time Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs, Powell has continuously had impressive showings in the preseason but has been unable to translate that success into the regular season.

Powell’s release is thought to be the corresponding move to Kansas City’s signing of wide receiver Tyquan Thornton on Monday.

Though it is unclear whether Thornton will see action with the Chiefs in the coming weeks, Powell’s departure signals that Kansas City was ready to move in a different direction at the wide receiver position.

Stay tuned to see if another team will pick up the fan-favorite or if he will re-join the Chiefs later this season.

Cowboys release former second-round CB to make room for new WR

From @ToddBrock24f7: Andrew Booth was acquired via trade in August but played only sparingly, making just three game appearances for Dallas in 2024.

Cornerback has been a literal sore spot on the Cowboys roster of late, with DaRon Bland, Caelen Carson, and Amani Oruwariye all missing significant time and even Trevon Diggs nursing a calf injury prior to last week’s loss in Atlanta.

Now the team, of their own accord, has thinned the position group by one more, releasing Andrew Booth Jr. on Tuesday, as first reported by Tommy Yarrish of the team website.

That roster move corresponds with the team’s trade earlier in the day to acquire wide receiver Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers in a trade.

Booth himself joined the Cowboys via trade, in an August deal that sent Nahshon Wright to the Vikings in exchange for the former second-round pick out of Clemson. But the 24-year-old Booth struggled to catch on in Dallas, playing just 38 defensive snaps (and 25 special-teams snaps) over three game appearances this season and logging a total of six tackles.

Bland is still waiting to make his 2024 debut with a foot injury but was activated to the 53-man roster last week; head coach Mike McCarthy was optimistic that the third-year man could return to practice this week. The rookie Carson was back in action this past Sunday versus the Falcons after missing four games with a shoulder injury.

Chiefs cuts: Fan-favorite WR Justyn Ross to be released

Fan-favorite WR Justyn Ross was among the players who were released by the Kansas City #Chiefs on Tuesday.

The Kansas City Chiefs had to make some tough decisions this week to cut their roster down to 53 players, and fan-favorite wide receiver Justyn Ross found himself on the outside looking in on Tuesday afternoon.

Ross, who joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent after the 2022 NFL draft, was a star at Clemson as a collegian and seemed to be on the rise during Kansas City’s preseason exhibitions.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz first reported news of Ross’ release on Twitter.  The transaction came just a day after the Chiefs reunited with veteran wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, which may have been one of the factors in Kansas City’s decision to part with the former Tiger.

It isn’t out of the question that Ross could be signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad in the coming days, but for now, his future in Kansas City seems to have come to an end.

Report: DE Carl Lawson among Cowboys’ latest cuts

From @ToddBrock24f7: The veteran was brought in 8 days ago but will now be free to sign with any team that wants him, including Dallas (for the practice squad).

Veteran pass rusher Carl Lawson signed with the Cowboys on Aug. 19, seen then as an experienced replacement for the injured Sam Williams along the Dallas defensive line.

Lawson’s tenure in the silver and blue lasted just eight days. The 29-year-old with 27 career sacks is being released Tuesday, per a report from ESPN’s Todd Archer.

As Archer points out, the 2017 fourth-round draft pick who spent time with the Bengals and Jets could still return to the Cowboys practice squad, as his accrued time in the league allows him to skip the waiver wire and do a deal with any team that wants him.

The Cowboys’ D-line is bookended most notably by Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence. Chauncey Golston, Tyrus Wheat, and highly-touted rookie second-round draft pick Marshawn Kneeland are also in the rotation. Al-Quadin Muhammad was added this offseason, but it should be pointed out that he’ll be required to miss the season opener due to a previous violation of the league’s PED policy.

The Cowboys were scheduled to meet with free agent pass rusher Tyus Bowser on Tuesday; the Houston product spent seven years in Baltimore but hasn’t been healthy enough to play since the 2022 postseason.

The Cowboys must have their roster trimmed to 53 players by the end of the day.

Saints continue defensive back cut-downs, releasing veteran Ugo Amadi

The New Orleans Saints have continued their work to shape the defensive backs room, releasing six-year veteran Ugo Amadi:

The defensive back rooms between cornerback and safety were both a bit crowded for the Saints this offseason, especially with the breakout of Rico Payton. This has led to the unfortunate scenario of defensive back Ugo Amadi being released, per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill.

Amadi was very solid depth for the Saints last year, and even ended up playing in all 17 games despite no starts, totaling 83 defensive snaps (8%) and 132 special teams snaps (28%). The six-year veteran will end up looking for another team, or if not signed elsewhere, potentially a practice squad addition with the potential for a call back up.

This move comes as somewhat of a surprise, as he seemed to be a good depth piece that the Saints were willing to hold onto, however with some recent risers in preseason and training camp, he may have been the odd man out of the defensive back rooms.

Saints begin forming defensive backs room, release Roderic Teamer

The New Orleans Saints have begun shaping their defensive backs room, releasing veteran safety Roderic Teamer, a potential practice squad candidate:

The New Orleans Saints have begun their roster shuffle on cut-down day, with the deadline fast approaching, roster cuts will likely be coming in bulk at some point today. One of the first releases was former Las Vegas Raiders safety Roderic Teamer, per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill.

The defensive back room was going to be extremely tough to crack in the first place, with Tyrann Mathieu, Jordan Howden, Johnathan Abram, and J.T. Gray being all locks or close to being so. On top of that, the cornerbacks room may warrant carrying an extra player with Rico Payton showing up so well in preseason.

Unfortunately, Roderic Teamer ended up being one of the odd-men out and was released to find a new team. Ultimately he may end up coming back as a practice squad player as well, as he had a quality preseason and was a good enough player to warrant taking another look long term as a depth piece in the secondary.

Commanders release kicker Brandon McManus

The Commanders move on from McManus.

The Washington Commanders announced on Sunday that they’d released kicker Brandon McManus.

McManus was accused of sexually assaulting two women in a lawsuit filed last month in Duval County, Florida. The alleged incident occurred on an international flight last September when McManus played for the Jaguars. The two women were working as flight attendants on Jacksonville’s charter flight to London for the Jaguars’ game against the Atlanta Falcons.

When the lawsuit was filed, the Commanders released the following statement:

Earlier today, we were made aware of the civil lawsuit filed on May 24 against Brandon McManus. We take allegations of this nature very seriously and are looking into the matter. We have been in communication with the League Office and Brandon’s representation, and will reserve further comment at this time.

McManus later released the following statement via his attorney:

These are absolutely fictitious and demonstrably false allegations made as part of a campaign to defame and disparage a talented and well-respected NFL player. We intend to aggressively defend Brandon’s rights and integrity and clear his name by showing what these claims truly are — an extortion attempt.

McManus, 32, signed with the Commanders in March after spending last season with the Jaguars. Before his one season in Jacksonville, McManus spent nine seasons with the Denver Broncos.

The Commanders report for their final week of Offseason Training Activities (OTAS) on Tuesday without a kicker. Washington will hold its mandatory minicamp from June 11-13.

Report: Cowboys release WR Martavis Bryant

From @ToddBrock24f7: Bryant was brought to Dallas last November but did not see the field. His release could signal a new veteran WR signing for the Cowboys.

For the second time in 125 days, Martavis Bryant has been released by the Cowboys.

The wide receiver, who was signed by the team to a reserve/futures contract in mid-January, has now been let go, according to a Wednesday report from NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, who cited a source.

Bryant, 32, had first joined the Cowboys back in November, just after his reinstatement to the NFL following a 2018 suspension. Having bounced around the Indoor Football League, the CFL, Fan Controlled Football, and the XFL in his time away, Bryant remained on the Cowboys’ practice squad as he worked to get himself back into NFL shape.

A former fourth-round draft pick out of Clemson, he was released just after the first of the year to make room for La’el Collins as a depth piece heading into the playoffs. Shortly after the team’s postseason loss to Green Bay, though, Bryant was re-signed to continue his comeback bid.

Now the experiment is apparently over for good. Bryant’s release comes just hours after it was announced that the Cowboys were hosting free agent receiver Zay Jones for a visit.

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

The writing could very well be on the wall for a Jones signing, giving the team’s WR room the veteran experience that Bryant was hoped to bring. Of course, the Cowboys could be making room for someone else, maybe at a different position altogether.

Other teams around the league are expected to be interested in inviting Bryant to town. He has not played in an NFL game since 2018.
