Texas Football: Offensive lineman Reese Moore has entered the transfer portal

Another Longhorn has joined the portal on Tuesday. According to Horns247, offensive lineman Reese Moore is expected to leave the program.

Exodus through the transfer portal has hit Texas hard since Steve Sarkisian took over in Austin. Players such as Keaontay Ingram, Willie Tyler, Jalen Green, and Ayodele Adeoye are expected to leave the program.

Another name has joined the portal on Tuesday afternoon. According to 247Sports and Horns247, offensive lineman former four-star recruit Reese Moore is leaving as a graduate transfer.

Moore was a member of the Longhorns’ 2018 recruiting class. He ranked as a top 300 player in the country and the No. 20 offensive tackle on the 247Sports composite. However, he only played in one game throughout his three seasons in Austin. According to his profile on texassports.com, Moore “played late in the Valero Alamo Bowl versus Colorado.”

With Moore and Tyler now expected to be gone for the 2021 season, Texas’ offensive line depth becomes even thinner. The Longhorns may have to dip into the portal themselves to find help for new offensive line coach Kyle Flood. It’s even more crucial if team captain Derek Kerstetter does not return.

In our way-too-early depth chart predictions, Moore was listed as the backup left tackle to sophomore Andrej Karic.

Tom Herman provides injury update before season opener against UTEP

Ahead of the matchup against UTEP, head coach Tom Herman met with the media and provided an injury update for the Texas Longhorns.

For the first time in 288 days, Texas will be playing a home game at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. UTEP will be coming to town on Sept. 12, with the Miners already having a game under their belt.

For the Longhorns, practice has been underway since Aug. 7 and some injuries will carry over into the season opener.

Starting with the good news, linebacker Ayodele Adeoye was cleared to return to practice on Sunday. The junior broke his foot in the offseason and was recovering from surgery. After returning to practice, he suffered a minor shoulder injury that now appears good to go.

Adeoye is going to be an important part of the linebacking core, providing more depth for a thin group. Juwan Mitchell is going to start at middle linebacker for now but Adeoye could challenge the former junior college transfer.

Moving towards players who currently have injuries, the Longhorns’ offense is going to be without two role players on Saturday.

Freshman wide receiver Kelvontay Dixon and offensive lineman Isaiah Hookfin are listed as doubtful. Dixon, a 6-foot-0, 180-pound speedster, was expected to provide big play ability from the slot. He will now have to wait to make his Texas debut until conference play begins.

Isaiah Hookfin injured his shoulder recently but was expected to return in time for the start of the season. It appears that he needs just a bit more time. It is unclear at this point on if that will be a lingering issue. Fellow lineman Reese Moore will need a knee scope per the report, much like he did last preseason.

Countdown to Texas Football: Best to wear No. 76

Continuing the countdown to the Texas Longhorns 2020 kickoff, we remember the best to wear number 76 for the Texas Longhorns.

Longhorns Wire is continuing the series of jersey numbers to match the days until the Texas kicks off the season. On Thursday we find ourselves remembering number 76. Currently Reese Moore wears number 76.

Jerald Grant “Jerry” Sisemore, Offensive Tackle (1970-72)

Sisemore joined the Longhorns in 1970. That year the team extended their winning streak to 30 games. That is the 12th longest win streak in NCAA history. The team finished the year unscathed until the final game of the year. The win streak started on October 5, 1968 and ended in 1970 when the Longhorns met the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Cotton Bowl. The Longhorns were coming off a consensus National Championship in 1969. Despite their lone loss, the coaches poll still named them National Champions in 1970.

Sisemore would be named Consensus All-American in 1971-72. Both seasons he would also be named All-Southwest Conference and helped Texas win the Southwest Conference all three seasons. Each year they would play in the Cotton Bowl. In his final collegiate game they defeated the number four ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.

Sisemore would go on to play in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles. He would only play in Philadelphia for the duration of his 12-year NFL career. Sisemore was the third overall selection in the 1973 NFL Draft. He would eventually play in the Super Bowl XV.

Accomplishments:

  • Two-time Unanimous All-American (1972-73)
