Florida football cracks SI’s top 10 recruiting classes as 2023 cycle wanes

As the 2023 recruiting cycle begins to narrow, the Gators are looking pretty good in SI’s rankings.

The start of December means that college football recruiting is back on the front page after the end of the no-contact period and with the upcoming early signing period just weeks away. Now that the regular season schedule is complete it is time to start wrapping up the 2023 cycle and taking a look at the next step forward.

So far this year, the Florida Gators have fared well on the recruiting front under the leadership of [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag], who was brought in to fix up a program that had neglected its duties when it comes to luring the top preps prospects to Gainesville. The new regime has done admirably well in its first year, earning a spot in the top-10 rankings of most major publications’ recruiting rankings — including Sports Illustrated, which recently released its latest update to open the month.

According to sportswriter John Garcia Jr., the Orange and Blue land right at No. 10 – up one spot from the last update — with 22 total commitments, of which four are SI99 recruits. Here is what he had to say about the current state of affairs in Gainesville.

Another SEC program preparing for a splash finish, Florida got the ball rolling with one of the biggest flips of the recruiting cycle in prying [autotag]Jaden Rashada[/autotag] away from Miami. The elite QB was trending to the program before selecting the Hurricanes in the summer and it never waned on courting the Californian, who has now become a vocal part of the commitment class. There was more news at the quarterback position in Gainesville, as the program moved on from longtime commitment and in-state talent [autotag]Marcus Stokes[/autotag] after a video of him using a racial slur was posted on social media. He has since apologized for using the language while “listening to rap music.”

The Gators are also ranked No. 8 by ESPN as well as 247Sports, while On3 has Florida one spot higher at No. 7. The early signing period officially begins on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

Where LSU’s 2023 recruiting class ranks across the industry following recent decommitments

Brian Kelly’s 2023 class remains well-positioned despite recent losses.

LSU’s 2023 recruiting class took a couple hits in recent days with two blue-chip defensive linemen decommitting in [autotag]Darron Reed[/autotag] and [autotag]Joshua Mickens[/autotag].

There hadn’t been much negative news on the trail this cycle. LSU’s class has been trending up since the day [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] took the job. This is the first real step back.

The sky is yet to fall, though.

LSU’s class remains comfortably in the top 10 and the defensive line is still in a good spot, too, anchored by [autotag]Dashawn Womack[/autotag] and [autotag]Jaxon Howard[/autotag]. On3 gave Womack his fifth star last week.

Following the shakeup, here’s where the class ranks.

  • 247Sports: Fifth
  • On3: Sixth
  • Rivals: Sixth
  • ESPN: Eighth
  • Average rank: 6.25

There aren’t too many blue-chip defensive linemen left on the board to replace Reed and Mickens, but LSU could be preparing some big additions on the backend.

According to 247’s and On3’s respective prediction systems, LSU is in a good spot with defensive backs [autotag]Desmond Ricks[/autotag] and [autotag]Javien Toviano[/autotag]. Commitments from Ricks and Toviano would bring LSU’s class to 25 players and give LSU the strong DB class that it needs.

We’ll begin to find out more about the future roster in early December with the transfer window and early signing day.

After hot start to cycle, where does LSU stand in the 2024 recruiting rankings?

As the Tigers wrap things up in 2023, let’s turn our attention toward their 2024 class, which is shaping up to be even better.

We’re nearing the end of the 2023 recruiting cycle. Early signing day is just three weeks away, and that’s when the bulk of high school prospects make things official these days.

Though coaches won’t be putting the finishing touches on their 2023 classes until February, they will soon begin to shift their focuses largely toward the 2024 cycle.

When it comes to the 2024 class, there are very few teams off to as fast a start as the Tigers are. While many top programs only have one or two players committed (if that) LSU currently boasts an eight-man class that features six blue-chip recruits. As things stand entering December, it is among the best classes in the country.

Here’s how things stand in the (albeit very early) 2024 recruiting rankings from the 247Sports Composite.

LSU has a top 5 recruiting class in 2023 as November comes to a close

Here’s how the recruiting rankings look less than a month away from early signing day.

As the calendar prepares to turn to December, we’re just three weeks away from the beginning of the early signing period on Dec. 21.

With 23 commitments already, it makes sense that things have slowed down on the trail a bit for the Tigers since a busy couple of months during the summer. LSU did add two commits in November, four-star offensive tackle [autotag]DJ Chester[/autotag] and three-star edge rusher [autotag]Dylan Carpenter[/autotag].

However, the Tigers do have a few more spots available down the stretch than we initially expected as LSU lost commitments from four-star defensive linemen [autotag]Darron Reed[/autotag] — who flipped to Auburn — and [autotag]Joshua Mickens[/autotag] in the last week.

Still, LSU has one of the best classes in the country with the chance to get even better if it could land a player like five-star cornerback [autotag]Desmond Ricks[/autotag]. Here are the rankings at the end of November, per the 247Sports Composite.

Where each Texas commit lands in latest On300 ranking for 2023 class

12 Texas commits land within the updated On300 ranking. This could turn out to be a very special class for Steve Sarkisian.

Texas’ 2023 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 6 in the country, according to On3. Continue reading “Where each Texas commit lands in latest On300 ranking for 2023 class”

Four-star offensive tackle DJ Chester commits to LSU, bumps 2023 class into top five

The top-150 prospect’s pledge moved the Tigers’ recruiting class up to No. 4 in the nation.

The Tigers aren’t done yet when it comes to adding players to their 2023 recruiting class, and now they boast a group of players that ranks in the top five nationally.

On Thursday morning, LSU picked up an absolutely massive commitment from four-star Eagles Landing Christian Academy (McDonough, Ga.) offensive tackle [autotag]DJ Chester[/autotag]. He becomes the fourth offensive line commitment in the class, joining [autotag]Zalance Heard[/autotag], [autotag]Tyree Adams[/autotag] and [autotag]Paul Mubenga[/autotag].

The Tigers had long been seen as the favorite for Chester, who ranks as the No. 13 offensive tackle and No. 138 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class. He’s also a top-10 prospect in the state of Georgia.

Chester’s addition bumps LSU’s 24-man 2023 recruiting class into the No. 4 spot on the 247Sports Composite Rankings behind just Alabama, Georgia and Notre Dame and just ahead of Ohio State and Texas. On3, meanwhile, kept the Tigers at No. 5 following Chester’s pledge.

LSU could see its class rise in the rankings even more as it remains in the running for a couple of five stars in [autotag]Desmond Ricks[/autotag] and [autotag]Nyckoles Harbor[/autotag]. It is also the favorite for [autotag]Javien Toviano[/autotag], a top-100 cornerback from Texas.

Where LSU stands in the 247Sports 2023 recruiting rankings at the end of October

The Tigers’ 23-man class currently sits in the national top 10 entering the month of November.

As early signing day approaches in December, it’s been a bit of a quiet stretch on the recruiting trail recently for the Tigers after they exploded in July and August.

LSU only landed one commitment for the 2023 class this month in linebacker [autotag]Christian Brathwaite[/autotag], who flipped from Baylor last week.

Still, some slowdown was to be expected. LSU’s class sits at 23 players and squarely in the national top 10. The Tigers can afford to be a bit picky now, and they’re focusing their attention on a couple of elite prospects as the cycle winds down, including five-star cornerback [autotag]Desmond Ricks[/autotag], who recently set an official visit.

Here’s how the full top 25 breaks down per the 247Sports Composite Rankings as we enter the month of November.

College Football: Updated top 10 recruiting rankings for class of 2023

Since the last time we shared the 2023 recruiting rankings, a few schools have shaken the picture up. While Alabama remains on top of the mountain, Notre Dame has risen to No. 3 and Texas has dropped to No. 6. LSU and Clemson have both picked up some big commitments, as well.

Where is LSU in the latest recruiting rankings?

The Tigers are approaching a top-five class after its recruiting momentum has continued into August.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and the LSU Tigers coaching staff have had a great month of August so far. The Tigers landed four excellent prospects for the class of 2023, [autotag]Shelton Sampson Jr.[/autotag], [autotag]Kylin Jackson[/autotag], [autotag]Rickie Collins[/autotag] and [autotag]Khai Prean[/autotag].

So how does that affect the recruiting rankings for the Tigers?

According to the new On3 rankings, LSU has moved up to the sixth position overall and they may not be done landing commitments. [autotag]Zalance Heard[/autotag] and [autotag]Nyckoles Harbor[/autotag] are waiting in the wings.

Harbor doesn’t have a commitment date set yet, but Heard is set to commit on Sept. 1, and he is currently Crystal Balled to go to LSU. His commitment alone could move the Tigers up into the top five of the recruiting rankings.

That would be a nice present for Kelly as the season gets started next Sunday night against the Florida State Seminoles at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
