Trash-talking Commanders’ fan takes a tumble at MetLife Stadium

One Washington fan’s trash talk doesn’t end well.

You have to forgive Washington Commanders’ fans. They are 7-2 and in first place in the NFC East, but the franchise hasn’t done a lot of winning over the years.

So, it’s not surprising that their trash-talking is a little rusty. That trash talk was on display Sunday during the Commanders’ 27-22 win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.

One Washington fan was at the game mixing it up with Giants fans and had some choice words for the New York faithful. As the fan turned around and attempted to sit down or move down a row, he took a painful tumble down the seats.

You can check it out here.

While it’s always good to see the legendary Art Monk represented, it’s safe to say the Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver would not approve of the fan’s conduct.

The Commanders would win 27-22 to sweep the season series against the Giants. It’s Washington’s first sweep of New York since the 2021 season.

Bears DB who taunted Commanders’ fans before game-winning TD apologizes

The Bears cornerback apologized to Chicago and his teammates for mistake.

Sunday was a day to forget for Chicago Bears defensive back Tyrique Stevenson. First, the second-year cornerback was burned by Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin for a 61-yard completion.

Later in the game, Stevenson was penalized for taunting Washington guard Sam Cosmi. Let’s set the scene for you here. Cosmi is 6-foot-6 and 309 pounds, while Stevenson is 6-foot-0 and 200 pounds. Somehow, on the same play, Stevenson made McLaurin so upset that teammates had to get the usually reserved McLaurin off the field.

McLaurin had some choice words for Stevenson.

Stevenson saved the best for last. On the final play, with the Bears leading 15-12 and two seconds on the clock, Stevenson was walking down the field toward the goal line and took time to taunt fans. This was while the play was going on, before rushing to his position, where he tipped the football into the waiting hands of Washington wide receiver Noah Brown to give the Commanders the win.

One X user, Paul Williams, took time to summarize Stevenson’s day with three images:

Afterward, Stevenson chose not to speak to the media, but did take to Twitter to issue an apology.

Good for Stevenson for quickly accepting his mistake. Social media can be an ugly place and while his actions on the field were hurtful to his team, he certainly doesn’t deserve some of the comments he received — or will receive — as a result.

WATCH: Bears DB mocking fans before Commanders’ game-winning touchdown

The same player who tipped the ball into Noah Brown’s hands on the game-winner, was taunting fans just before.

Chicago Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson thought the game was over. His team had just taken a 15-12 lead with 25 seconds remaining over the Washington Commanders.

So, when the Commanders were down to their final play, with just two seconds remaining, Stevenson was walking down the field toward the goal line in anticipation of Washington’s final Hail Mary pass. On his way down the field, Stevenson took some time to mock Commanders’ fans. After all, the game was in the bag. Right?

Well, we all know what happened. Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels’ Hail Mary landed in the arms of wide receiver Noah Brown in the end zone to give the Commanders the 18-15 victory.

The ironic part of this play was that Stevenson tipped the ball into Brown’s hands to secure a Washington win.

Here’s the play.

Unbelievable.

According to Courtney Cronin of ESPN, Stevenson refused to speak to reporters after the game.

Karma.

What did Jayden Daniels say about playing on Sunday vs. Bears?

Jayden Daniels spoke for the first time since his injury. What he said about playing Sunday vs. Bears.

Will Jayden Daniels play on Sunday when the Washington Commanders (5-2) host the Chicago Bears (4-2) in Week 8 action?

Daniels missed practice on Thursday and Friday but participated on a limited basis on Friday. Head coach Dan Quinn didn’t reveal whether Daniels would play but said the team pushed him to see how he would respond.

“We really wanted to push it today,” Quinn said. “And so that’s why I think it’s important because you have to push it in all the, not just the quarterback specific things, but also within the game plan. So, we really pushed it today. And so that’s what really the next day and a half will be about. See how he responds because you have to, you have to do that.”

After practice, reporters were able to catch up with Daniels.

“I want to play, but it’s not my decision,” Daniels said Friday.

“I feel good,” he said. “Been in treatment and all that, trying to get back right, give myself a chance to go out there and be confident playing. Hopefully, the trainers, [GM] Adam [Peters] and DQ make the decision to let me play.”

Daniels understands the Commanders are looking out for his best interests, even if it means he will not be playing this week. He also said he has around 48 hours to see how he responded to Friday’s practice.

It sounds like Daniels will truly be a game-time decision for the Commanders, or, at least, that’s what they want the Bears to think.

Commanders won’t curb quarterback designed runs

Daniels’ injury will not change Washington’s offense and Quinn explained why.

With Jayden Daniels being injured Sunday, Dan Quinn was ready for Monday’s barrage of questions.

Some will think the injury means the Commanders will be calling fewer zone-read option runs. “Not so fast, my friend,” is how head coach Dan Quinn responded.

“It would not,” Quinn said. “On this one, that Jayden ended up getting injured, it was on honestly more like a scramble. There was a lead blocker outside and he was 30, 35 yards down the field. So no, that’s not the type of design run that we would move from.”

Quinn is correct. Daniels was not injured around the line of scrimmage by a larger defender. He was nearly outracing the secondary on what might have been a huge touchdown run.

Apparently, Quinn’s answer was not good enough, so he was asked from another angle how Jayden could have run that play differently. However, Quinn again was correct. The design of the play did not increase the risk of injury. This injury occurred yards down field.

“Yeah, he was really trying to work off the safety at first, and so to cut across his face, he was trying to go score. And so, as he was getting down the field, I thought from the design standpoint it was good and he just kind of fell awkwardly on it. So, it was not a function, in this particular case, of running in the A gap and getting hit by a defensive tackle. It was a down-the-field run that, in a lot of ways would’ve felt like a scramble if you had just saw the second half of the play, not the first half. If that makes sense.”

Might Daniels change his equipment somehow to gain more padding?

“Not as much on the pad. He already has a specific one in this instance. It’s really going to be more of the rotational part of things and to see how that part would go and what it looks like to make sure he can have all the movements down. He’s got a pretty secure padding, it seems smaller, but it’s where it protects over the ribs like a lot of the quarterbacks have. It’s protected strongly there.”

Dan Quinn is correct. This was an unusual injury that occurred not because of the design of the play. Therefore, Quinn or Kliff Kingsbury are not to blame for this injury.

Dan Quinn says Commanders ‘hopeful’ Jayden Daniels can play vs. Bears

Quinn “hopeful” Jayden Daniels can play in Week 8.

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said after Sunday’s game he’d give more information on quarterback Jayden Daniels’ injury on Monday when he met with the media.

Daniels, who injured his rib in Sunday’s 40-7 win over the Carolina Panthers, played the first series and did not return. Veteran Marcus Mariota replaced Daniels and completed 18 of 23 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

However, fans were concerned about Daniels. His mother posted on X during the game that Daniels was fine. Other reports have indicated that Daniels did not fracture a rib.

Quinn gave the latest update on Monday afternoon, saying that Daniels was “week to week,” and the Commanders were “hopeful” that he could play in Week 8 vs. Chicago Bears. Quinn insisted that Washington would exercise caution with Daniels to protect him.

Quinn said that Daniels would not be wearing any additional padding and that the injury was more of a freak situation due to him landing awkwardly.

At 5-2, the Commanders are in first place in the NFC East and face the 4-2 Bears. The game was moved from the traditional 1 p.m. ET kick to the 4:25 kickoff in Week 8 due to the much-anticipated matchup between the top two players from the 2024 NFL draft (Caleb Williams and Daniels).

Commanders Dan Quinn offers no update on Jayden Daniels

Dan Quinn doesn’t have an update on QB Jayden Daniels yet.

Washington Commanders fans were nervous early in Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. After a 46-yard run on Washington’s first drive, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels appeared to be in pain.

Daniels would finish the drive but then went to the locker room for what the team called a rib injury. Washington said he was questionable to return. The Commanders held a 10-0 lead when Daniels departed the game.

Marcus Mariota relieved Daniels, and while struggling on his first drive, he quickly got hot and led Washington on multiple scoring drives, including a touchdown before halftime to make it 27-0. Once the third quarter began, the Commanders ruled Daniels out.

Daniels came back onto the field during the third quarter as fans cheered. A positive sign, right? He also appeared in good spirits for the remainder of the game. After Washington defeated Carolina 40-7, Quinn offered the following update on Daniels:

“I cannot give you an update on Jayden, but I will just as soon as we find out,” Quinn said. “We’ll do some further tests tomorrow and then when we get together in the afternoon, we’ll give you an update. But I don’t have anything for everybody else asking the same thing; same answer. So, just wanted to make sure I was super clear on that.”

Quinn will speak to the media on Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. ET.

However, Daniels’ mother tweeted during Sunday’s game that her son was “fine.

ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler offered another positive update on Washington’s star rookie.

The Commanders will play it extra safe with Daniels. It will be difficult to keep him out of next week’s game against the Bears, but if he’s not 100%, Washington will go with Mariota. Quinn understands that there’s nothing more important to the franchise than Daniels’ short and long-term health.

Gator Nation reacts to Florida football’s overtime loss at Tennessee

Reactions from the Gators 23-17 overtime loss at Tennessee.

Florida football suffered a brutal loss on the road in overtime against the No. 8 Tennessee Volunteers, losing 23-17.

Despite dominating the time of possession and having more total yards than the Volunteers, the Gators just couldn’t get enough points on the board to win the game.

Florida’s defense held their ground and kept the game afloat. They came through whenever the team desperately needed a stop and they delivered.

The improvement of Florida’s defense has really been a bright spot for the team in recent weeks, and fans have taken notice of it.

In the third quarter, quarterback Graham Mertz appeared to have suffered a non-contact leg injury after throwing a touchdown pass to tight end Arlis Boardingham that gave the Gators a 10-0 lead.

Mertz went into the medical tent on the sidelines and towards the end of the fourth quarter, he was seen on the sidelines in street clothes with crutches.  While the severity of the injury is yet to be announced, the quarterback was seen hugging his teammates and coaches, which is not the best sign you’d want to see.

Through the roller coaster of the Gators offensive play, they managed to send the game into overtime thanks to DJ Lagway‘s 27-yard touchdown pass to receiver Chimere Dike.

But overtime was a nightmare for Florida as they were pushed back on their first possession and were forced to attempt a 47-yard field goal which ended up missing wide right.

Tennessee would end up scoring a touchdown on their overtime drive to seal the victory.

Commanders vs. Cardinals: Week 4 staff picks and predictions

Our picks are in for Week 4.

The Washington Commanders (2-1) are back on the road in Week 4 against the Arizona Cardinals (1-2). After Monday night’s big win over the Cincinnati Bengals, Washington looks for its second consecutive win.

Last week, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels completed 21 of 23 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 39 yards and a touchdown. That performance earned Daniels NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

If the Commanders hope to increase their winning streak to three games, Daniels will need some help from the defense. Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray is off to a fantastic start, too, with five touchdowns and only one interception through three games against a difficult schedule. Murray has also done his fair share of damage on the ground, rushing for 161 yards.

So, who do we think wins? It’s time for Commanders Wire’s staff predictions:

Bryan Manning

Conventional wisdom says the Commanders will struggle coming off a short week and the emotional high of Monday’s upset win. But who knows with this group? This isn’t the same Washington team, thanks to one person: Daniels.

The defense remains problematic. Why would we expect them to be able to get stops against Murray? Murray, like Daniels, is an electric dual-threat who’ll create headaches for the Commanders on the second level.

I think Sunday’s game will be a shootout. And I think it’ll be close. However, it’s difficult to believe Daniels can sustain his level of play from Monday’s game. Not many veteran superstars have games like that, much less rookie quarterbacks. This game will come down to the wire, but Arizona’s defense will make more plays, resulting in a close win.

Cardinals 31, Commanders 27

Ivan Lambert

Jayden Daniels is going to miss Austin Ekeler against the Cardinals on Sunday. Ekeler has been effective, averaging 6.38 yards on his 13 carries. Even more, he is averaging 13.44 yards on his nine receptions. His 62-yard kickoff last week to open the second half also led to a short-drive touchdown.

The Commanders are going to need to run the ball better this week. Besides the Ekeler first-half touchdown run, the Commanders could not get Brian Robinson going (16-33/ 2.06).

Defensively, the Commanders are by far the worst team in the NFL on 3rd downs. They must contain Kyler Murray in the pocket. He is just as dangerous with his feet as he is passing.

Marvin Harrison Jr. looks to pose a problem for the secondary, similar to Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins last week.

Fans react to freshman RB Caden Durham’s monster performance in LSU’s win over South Alabama

Caden Durham looks like a budding superstar for the Tigers.

LSU may have a new star in the making at running back, and his name is [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag].

The true freshman made his presence known early in LSU’s 42-10 win, taking the first two offensive plays from scrimmage for 71 yards through the air and 86 on the ground. The first scored a touchdown and the second set one up.

Durham ultimately exited the game due to injury and wouldn’t play in the second half, but he made the most of his limited touches. He had 128 yards and a score on seven carries and added 89 yards and another touchdown through the air on three catches.

There was certainly quite a bit of excitement surrounding the LSU fanbase as the run game looked the best it has in a while. Here’s how they reacted on social media.
