Rams’ midseason odds to make playoffs, win Super Bowl and other awards

At the midway point in the season, here are the Rams’ latest odds to win the Super Bowl, make the playoffs and more

It looked like the Los Angeles Rams were in for another season similar to 2022 after they started 1-4 with a litany of injuries. However, they’ve turned things around in a hurry and look like a team that could make some noise in the second half of the season.

Through nine weeks, they’re 4-4 and just a half-game back of the division-leading Cardinals in the NFC West. Matthew Stafford is playing well, Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua are back and the defense is meshing under Chris Shula after some growing pains.

At the midway point, we’re looking at the Rams’ latest odds to win the Super Bowl, reach the playoffs and updates on a few AP awards. All odds courtesy of BetMGM.

Win Super Bowl LIX: +5000

The Rams’ Super Bowl odds have shortened considerably in the last month. After five games, they were +15000 to win it all following their 1-4 start, but they’re now +5000 – 15th-best in the NFL, which is close to where they started the year.

Win NFC title game: +2500

The Rams’ odds to reach the Super Bowl have also improved significantly. They now have the eighth-best odds to represent the NFC in the big game.

Make the playoffs: Yes (+225) | No (-275)

Before the season began, the Rams were -115 to make the playoffs. At 4-4 through nine weeks, their odds are now longer at +225. It’s certainly not impossible, but they still have a lot of work to do in order to complete this turnaround.

After Week 5, they were +750 to make the playoffs.

Over/under win total: Over 8.5 (+100) | Under 8.5 (-120)

Before the season began, the Rams’ over/under win total was set at 8.5. After eight games, that number remains the same, though the line is slightly juiced to the under.

Win NFC West: +375

The Rams’ odds to win the division are actually much better than they are to be a wild-card team (+1000). That’s because the NFC West is wide open, with he 5-4 Cardinals currently leading. The Rams’ path to the playoffs will likely have to come as a division champ.

Matthew Stafford to win MVP: +8000

Stafford has played well this season but his numbers aren’t in line with being an MVP. He’s still a long shot to win the award at +8000, significantly longer than the co-favorites of Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson at +300.

Jared Verse to win Defensive Rookie of the Year: -125

Verse was tied for the third-best odds to win Defensive Rookie of the Year before the year started, coming in at +1000. Eight games into his career, he’s now the odds-on favorite at -125. The next-closest player is Laiatu Latu at +700.

Braden Fiske to win Defensive Rookie of the Year: +2500

Fiske is coming off his best performance of the season where he had two sacks against the Seahawks, so he’s making a charge up the board for Defensive Rookie of the Year. However, unless Verse completely cools off, it’s highly unlikely Fiske will overtake his teammate.

Sean McVay to win Coach of the Year: +3000

McVay is a phenomenal coach and he’s getting a lot out of a young team with a ton to prove and more injuries than just about anyone in the NFL. Dan Quinn is starting to pull away as the favorite to win this award, though, with +180 odds as of now. The Rams will need to go on a serious run in the second half for McVay to have any chance.

Rams flip from favorites to underdogs vs. Cardinals this weekend

The Rams opened the week as 1.5-point favorites, but the spread has now flipped to make them underdogs vs. Arizona

NFL odds often change throughout the week leading up to a game, but typically it’s only by half a point or a full point. The line for the Los Angeles Rams-Arizona Cardinals game, however, has flipped completely.

At the start of the week, the Rams were 1.5-point favorites at BetMGM. Since then, the spread has changed to make the Rams 1-point underdogs. That’s a 2.5-point change in four days, which is obviously significant.

Moneyline (ML)

  • Rams +100 (bet $100 to win $100)
  • Cardinals -120 (bet $120 to win $100)

Against the spread (ATS)

  • Rams +1 (-110)
  • Cardinals -1 (-110)

Over/Under (O/U)

  • 48 (O: -110 U: -110)

So what gives?

Either bettors hammered the Cardinals at +1.5, which moved the line, or the oddsmakers adjusted because of all the Rams’ injuries. It could also be a combination of both. For the Rams, they’ll be without Puka Nacua, Steve Avila and Joe Noteboom, as well as Alaric Jackson and Darious Williams.

Rob Havenstein and Cobie Durant are both question marks, too, and though Sean McVay expects Kevin Dotson to play on Sunday, he hasn’t practiced this week. This is unquestionably a decimated roster just one game into the season, while the Cardinals are fairly healthy coming into this matchup.

Rams open as slight road favorites vs. Cardinals in Week 2

The Rams are banged up and on the road again but they’re still betting favorites against the Cardinals in Week 2

There are a lot of things working against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2, but they’re still viewed as the betting favorites over the Arizona Cardinals. Despite being on the road for the second straight week and potentially without several key starters, including Puka Nacua, the Rams are still favored.

According to BetMGM, the Rams are 1.5-point favorites against the Cardinals in Week 2. Both teams come in at 0-1 but it’s clear the oddsmakers view Los Angeles as the better team right now.

Moneyline (ML)

  • Rams -125 (bet $125 to win $100)
  • Cardinals +105 (bet $100 to win $105)

Against the spread (ATS)

  • Rams -1.5 (-110)
  • Cardinals +1.5 (-110)

Over/Under (O/U)

  • 50.5 (O: -110 U: -110)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

In their season opener, the Cardinals lost to the Buffalo Bills, 34-28. They were competitive throughout that contest, though, even holding a 17-3 lead at one point on the road in Buffalo. They still covered the spread and the total clearly went over with 62 total points scored.

The Rams failed to cover the spread as 4.5-point underdogs and with a final score of 26-20, the total went under in what was expected to be a high-scoring game.

In their last 10 meetings, the Rams are 8-2 straight up against the Cardinals and 7-3 against the spread. Sean McVay is a remarkable 13-2 against Arizona since 2017.

Rams’ updated Super Bowl odds after win vs. Saints

The Rams’ Super Bowl odds improved after they beat the Saints, giving them the 12th-best odds of any team

At the start of the regular season, there were only five teams that had worse odds to win the Super Bowl than the Los Angeles Rams. For most of the year, that looked perfectly reasonable after the team started 3-6 and looked out of playoff contention.

Thanks to their recent 5-1 stretch, the Rams are in position to not only make the postseason, but potentially make some noise in a conference that’s looking shakier by the week. After beating the New Orleans Saints on Saturday night, the Rams now have a 72% chance to make the playoffs, according to the New York Times.

Their playoff odds sit at +6600 at BetMGM, tied with the Houston Texans for the 12th-best of any team. That’s only an implied probability of 1.5%, but it was even worse before Week 1 and at midseason.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

If you were to bet $100 on the Rams to win the Super Bowl, it would net a profit of $6,600. So if you’re feeling confident that Matthew Stafford could lead Los Angeles on a postseason run, it’s not a bad bet.

The 49ers have the best odds of any team at +220, followed by the Ravens (+550), Chiefs (+650), Dolphins (+800) and Eagles (+800). The Seahawks surprisingly have better odds than the Rams, coming in at +6000 to win it all.

Rams open as 6.5-point favorites vs. Commanders in Week 15

The Rams get an easier matchup in Week 15 when they host the Commanders, and they’re 6.5-point favorites in that game

After one of their toughest games of the season on Sunday in Baltimore, the Los Angeles Rams get a little bit of a break against an easier opponent in Week 15 when they host the Washington Commanders. Though the Commanders are coming off a bye in Week 14, the Rams are heavily favored over Ron Rivera’s squad.

According to BetMGM, the Rams are 6.5-point favorites over Washington. The over/under is set at 48.5 points, and if you want to bet on Los Angeles to win straight-up, the line is -300 – meaning a $300 bet wins $100.

Moneyline (ML)

  • Commanders +240 (bet $100 to win $240)
  • Rams -300 (bet $300 to win $100)

Against the spread (ATS)

  • Commanders +6.5 (-110)
  • Rams -6.5 (-110)

Over/Under (O/U)

  • 48.5 (O: -110 U: -110)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Rams covered the spread in Sunday’s 37-31 loss in overtime to the Ravens, going into the game as 7.5-point underdogs. They’ve now covered in each of their last three games and are 7-5-1 against the spread on the season. The total has also gone over in all of the Rams’ last three games, and the over is 8-5 in the Commanders’ 13 contests so far this season.

Rams, 49ers tied as betting favorites to win NFC West

The Rams and 49ers are both expected to have good seasons, but only one of them knows who its QB will be.

Two teams from the NFC West made the playoffs last season, but the entire division was fairly competitive throughout the year. The Rams got a good taste of that by going 3-3 in the division, losing both of their games to the 49ers and splitting with the Seahawks.

Looking ahead to 2021, the Rams and 49ers are viewed as the top teams in the NFC West – at least based on the betting odds. At DraftKings Sportsbook, the Rams and 49ers are tied as the betting favorites to win the division at +175, followed by the Seahawks +300 and Cardinals +700.

It’s not really surprising that the Rams are viewed as the favorites after acquiring Matthew Stafford, but the 49ers have some things to sort out. Jimmy Garoppolo isn’t certain to be the team’s quarterback, which could leave a hole at the most important position in football.

And even if Garoppolo does remain, he’s not exactly a quarterback who’s going to A) put up huge numbers or B) necessarily stay healthy for all 16 games. Both defenses look stout heading into 2021, while their rushing attacks should both be potent, too.

It could just come down to quarterback play and overall health of the team, which both derailed the 49ers last season.

Super Bowl LVI odds: Rams tied with Ravens, Bills for 4th-best in NFL

Expectations are once again high for the Rams in 2021.

After agreeing to trade Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions for Matthew Stafford, the Los Angeles Rams’ stock has been trending up. The offense is expected to improve under the veteran quarterback, players reportedly texted Stafford that they’re interested in joining him in Los Angeles, and as a result of it all, their Super Bowl odds are on the rise.

After the Buccaneers knocked off the Chiefs in Super Bowl LV on Sunday night, sportsbooks released odds for each team to win it all next season. At BetMGM, the Rams are tied for the fourth-best odds in the NFL at +1200, right there with the Ravens and Bills.

The Chiefs remain the favorites at +600, followed by the Packers (+900) and Buccaneers (+1000). Right behind the Rams are the 49ers, surprisingly, at +1600. The Seahawks have the third-best Super Bowl odds in the NFC West at +2200, with the Cardinals rounding out the division at +4000.

It’s easy to see why the Rams’ odds are improving, moving from ninth-best in the NFL to tied for fourth-best. Stafford is viewed as an upgrade over Goff and will not only help the Rams offense, but his turnover avoidance will also put the defense in better spots by not forcing them to hold up against short fields.

Of course, the path to Super Bowl LVI will be a difficult one for the Rams. They play in the NFL’s toughest division, have to face the Bucs, Packers, Colts and Titans outside the NFC West and have a lot of free agency questions to answer before the season starts.

As long as the defense continues to play at a high level, and Stafford pans out as a top-10 quarterback next season, the Rams will be right in the thick of things in the NFC – and possibly have a chance to play in Super Bowl LVI at home at SoFi Stadium.

Rams open as 7-point underdogs vs. Packers in divisional round

The Rams are predictably big underdogs against the top-seeded Packers.

The Los Angeles Rams will be on the road for the second straight week after beating the Seahawks in Seattle on Saturday and advancing to the divisional round. They’ll visit the Green Bay Packers next weekend at Lambeau Field.

Kickoff is set for 4:35 p.m. ET on FOX, with the league’s No. 1 scoring defense taking on the highest-scoring offense. Being on the road, it’s no surprise the Rams have opened as underdogs.

According to BetMGM, the line opened as Packers -7. The over/under is set at 46.5 points.

On the money line, the Rams are +260 and the Packers are -350. That means a $100 wager on the Rams to win outright returns a profit of $260. For the Packers, a $350 wager would return a $100 profit if Green Bay wins straight-up.

The Rams were also underdogs against the Seahawks in the wild-card rounds, getting three points from Seattle. They covered, obviously, winning 30-20 on Saturday.

Rams have 8th-best odds to win Super Bowl LV, tied with Steelers

The Rams have the eighth-best odds to win the Super Bowl, tied with the Steelers and Titans.

Back in September before the regular season began, the Los Angeles Rams weren’t thought to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender by many. A difficult offseason filled with more losses than additions set expectations lower, which resulted in long odds to win a championship.

In fact, they were 50-1 (or +5000) to win it all this season, which was tied for 20th-best in the NFL. The Chargers and Cardinals were given better odds, as were the Broncos. But now in January, the Rams are one of the final 14 teams standing.

And according to BetMGM, they have a decent chance to win Super Bowl LV. Their odds sit at +2500, which is tied for eighth-best with the Steelers and Titans. The Packers, Saints, Buccaneers and Seahawks all have better odds than L.A., while the Bears and Washington are behind them in the NFC.

Unsurprisingly, the Chiefs are the favorites at +240. With a first-round bye and former MVP quarterback, the Chiefs look like the best team in football as the playoffs are set to get underway.

The Rams’ path to the Super Bowl begins in Seattle, and if they’re able to beat the Seahawks, they’ll be on the road once again in the divisional round. Unless the Bears upset the Saints this weekend, the Rams would visit Lambeau Field in the second round of the playoffs should they beat the Seahawks on Saturday.

The only way Los Angeles could host a playoff game is if the Bears make it to the conference championship alongside the Rams.
