Florida men’s basketball to compete in 2025 Rady Children’s Invitational

The Gators join Kansas, Providence and Wisconsin in the 2025 Rady Children’s Invitational.

Florida men’s basketball is set to participate in the 2025 Rady Children’s Invitational in San Diego, Sports San Diego officials announced on Thursday.

The Gators will compete alongside the Kansas Jayhawks, Providence Friars and Wisconsin Badgers, with first round games held on Thanksgiving Day and the championship and third place games following on Friday.

Tip off times and matchups will be revealed later, with all games set to air nationally on FOX or FS1.

“Quite simply this is an amazing field,” said Mark Neville, CEO of Sports San Diego. “It was our goal to bring top college basketball teams to our event and these teams fit that mold. We can’t wait for next year.”

Kansas is expected to be one of the headliners while Providence and Wisconsin bring strong traditions of success. For the Gators, this event offers an opportunity to measure themselves against elite competition early in the season.

With a national audience tuning in, the tournament could serve as a critical moment for the Gators to showcase their growth and build momentum for the season ahead.

The 2025 Rady Children’s Invitational is scheduled for Nov. 27-28, 2025. $5 from every ticket sold will be going to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.

Notre Dame no longer will participate in Rady Children’s Invitational

Make your plans for Vegas instead of San Diego.

When it was announced that Notre Dame would compete in a NIL-type tournament in Las Vegas this season, one thing might have been forgotten. Before the start of the past season, the Irish agreed to take part in the 2024 Rady Children’s Invitational in San Diego. But that won’t be the case any longer.

With the events conflicting with each other and the money involved with the Players Era Festival, the San Diego tournament officially will not feature the Irish. They, along with Arkansas, reportedly have opted out of their obligation, which involved a $200,000 buyout provision. They have been replaced by Ole Miss and Irish ACC rival NC State. Purdue and BYU will remain part of the invitational.

The writing for this was on the wall the moment the Players Era Festival was announced. No team in the NIL era is going to turn down an opportunity to financially benefit its players. Such is the new reality of college sports.

Notre Dame to play in 2024 Rady Children’s Invitational in San Diego

Make your travel plans for Thanksgiving weekend next year.

Notre Dame’s 2023-24 season won’t start for another two months, but we already know one event on its calendar for the 2024-25 season. The Irish will take part in the 2024 Rady Children’s Invitational in San Diego. Also participating are Purdue, BYU and latest entry Arkansas. The first edition of this invitational will take place this Thanksgiving weekend, so it’s safe to assume next year event also will happen at the same time.

Breaking the mold for the invitational in 2023 will be USC, Seton Hall, Iowa and Oklahoma. The Irish have their own multi-day event this season in the Legends Classic in Brooklyn. They’ll tip that tournament off against Auburn and then play either Oklahoma State or St. Bonaventure.

The difference between this year’s Legends Classic and next year’s Rady Children’s Invitational is that in the latter tournament, [autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] will have a team more in line with what he’s looking for. Until then, he’ll go through some first-year struggles with a young roster that was patched together quickly out of necessity. It shows how different things can be from one season to the next.

USC basketball to play Seton Hall on Thanksgiving Day in new San Diego event

Boogie Ellis goes to his home town — San Diego — for a 2-day event. @HawkeyesWire and @SoonersWire will also be there!

USC basketball played in the Battle 4 Atlantis last season, the Thanksgiving hoops feast in The Bahamas. This season, the Trojans will play a lot closer to home at a neutral-site event on Thanksgiving weekend.

The Trojans will play the Seton Hall Pirates on Thanksgiving Day at the inaugural Rady Children’s Invitational, held in San Diego.

Our friends at Hawkeyes Wire picked up on the initial report from Jon Rothstein of College Hoops Today and CBS Sports:

“See you in San Diego! The Iowa Hawkeyes will reportedly face the Oklahoma Sooners in the inaugural Rady Children’s Invitational in San Diego per Jon Rothstein of College Hoops Today.

“Rothstein reports that there is no timetable for an official announcement, but sources indicate that the event will be held during Thanksgiving weekend. The other two teams set to take part in the event are the USC Trojans and the Seton Hall Pirates.”

USC therefore gets to play two power-conference games in two days. It will play Iowa or Oklahoma on Friday, November 24. The Trojans are loading up on their nonconference schedule. They have already agreed to play Kansas State on November 6 and Gonzaga on December 2. Talented teams should challenge themselves out of conference, and the Trojans are doing just that.

This trip to San Diego means Boogie Ellis gets to go back to his home town for the holidays. He will enjoy playing in front of family and friends. The Trojans obviously hope the home cooking enables him to feast on USC’s opponents with Bronny James not yet able to play.
