TAMPA, Fla. – [autotag]Paige VanZant[/autotag] and [autotag]Rachael Ostovich[/autotag] kept things professional during their first faceoff of fight week ahead of their rematch.

VanZant and Ostovich faced off Wednesday at the Bare Knuckle FC 19 press conference. The two former UFC fighters headline BKFC 19 card on Friday.

It’s a rematch that stems from their January 2019 MMA bout when VanZant won by first-round armbar at UFC Fight Night 143. This time, it will be an all-out standup battle as the recently signed Ostovich makes her bareknuckle debut.

Paige VanZant offers a titillating reason to watch her BKFC fight with Rachael Ostovich

Paige VanZant

[autotag]Paige VanZant[/autotag] and [autotag]Rachael Ostovich[/autotag] are set to throw hands July 23 for Bare Knuckle FC in what some people (dudes) would call a “hot girl fight.” Don’t get mad at me for saying that; the proof is in the replies to MMA Junkie’s tweet about the fight booking and probably a bunch of other comments sections and message boards.

Their physical looks aside, though, there’s reason to be intrigued by this fight:

But, of course, the MMA audience being what it is (mostly dudes) and both women using their social media to flaunt what they’ve got, there’s naturally focus on their looks. PVZ knows this, and she leaned right into after the fight was announced (via Instagram).

Paige VanZant faces Rachael Ostovich at Bare Knuckle FC on July 23

Paige VanZant and Rachael Ostovich will run things back, but on a different stage.

[autotag]Paige VanZant[/autotag] and [autotag]Rachael Ostovich[/autotag] will run things back, but on a different stage.

VanZant meets Ostovich at BKFC’s July 23 event in a rematch from their January 2019 MMA bout that VanZant won by first-round armbar at UFC Fight Night 143. This time, it will be an all-out standup battle when the recently signed Ostovich makes her bareknuckle debut.

Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently told MMA Junkie of the booking. Thursday, the promotion made an official announcement.

VanZant made her BKFC debut in February and lost to Britain Hart by unanimous decision in a 125-pound contest in the “BKFC: KnuckleMania” main event. Although VanZant came up short, she was able to rally late to win the final round on the judges’ scorecards. She expressed her desire for a quick turnaround and will be meeting a familiar face this summer.

Ostovich, who signed with BKFC in April, parted ways with the UFC in December following a three-fight losing skid. The 30-year-old “Ultimate Fighter 26” alum most recently was seen in action this past November, when she was stopped by Gina Mazany at UFC on ESPN 18.

No information has been revealed on when Ostovich will make her BKFC debut.

In 2018, Ostovich picked up her first promotional loss when she was submitted by Montana De La Rosa at the TUF 27 Finale. In 2019, Ostovich, in her first fight back since a domestic violence case against her husband, returned to meet Paige VanZant. She was submitted by second-round armbar, and with VanZant also signed with BKFC, it’s possible a rematch could come to fruition.

In January 2020, Ostovich tested positive for using a tainted supplement and was suspended for eight months as a result.

After the conclusion of her suspension, Ostovich’s latest loss came Nov. 28 at UFC on ESPN 18 when she was finished with a body kick and punches by Mazany.

UFC on ESPN 18 results: Gina Mazany stops Rachael Ostovich with body kicks

Gina Mazany’s grappling wore down Rachael Ostovich at UFC on ESPN 18, but it was her striking that finished the job.

[autotag]Gina Mazany[/autotag]’s grappling wore down [autotag]Rachael Ostovich[/autotag] on Saturday at UFC on ESPN 18, but it was her striking that finished the job.

Mazany (7-4 MMA, 2-4 UFC) scored a steady stream of takedowns on Ostovich (4-6 MMA, 1-3 UFC) for the majority of the fight, getting ahead on the scorecards. She wasn’t content with a decision, though, and landed a pair of nasty body kicks in the final minute of the fight to get the third-round TKO.

The women’s flyweight bout was part of the UFC on ESPN 18 preliminary card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on ESPN2/ESPN+.

Mazany used a lot of movement early in the fight, but was met with counters coming in. She quickly shot in for a takedown, and managed to take Ostovich’s back within the first minute of the fight. She threatened from there, but Ostovich kept composed and got back to the feet. They exchanged strikes for the next few minutes before Mazany tied the fight up against the fence. She broke free, and Ostovich found some late success countering Mazany’s punches.

Mazany took the distance away from Ostovich early in the second, using trips from the clinch to put Ostovich on the mat. Some scrambles ensued, and Mazany got into position for a north-south choke. Ostovich used her flexibility to flip over onto Mazany’s back, but she could not keep control. She couldn’t keep the fight on the feet for long, either, because Mazany went right back to her takedowns and worked over Ostovich to put herself way ahead in the fight.

With all the momentum in her favor through 10 minutes, Mazany did not let up in the final round. She pressured Ostovich with knees and elbows from inside the clinch, then scored a big takedown with less than three minutes remaining. Mazany battered Ostovich from on top, and was able to take the back again. Ostovich survived the onslaught and got back up to her feet, but was met with a brutal body kick that folded her. Ostovich somehow survived and got back up, then took another one that made her collapse, ending the fight in brutal fashion at the 4:10 mark of Round 3.

With the win, Mazany made a successful debut in the women’s flyweight division. Ostovich, meanwhile, has lost her past three.

“I’m 1-0 at 125,” Mazany said in her post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “I intend on getting better and better.”

Social media is part of life in the fight game for most fighters. Many of them turn to Instagram to keep their fans and followers informed and entertained since (for now) its reputation is less vitriolic than some of its contemporaries.

Ahead of her fight against Gina Mazany (6-4 MMA, 1-4 UFC), check out some of the most popular Instagram posts from [autotag]Rachael Ostovich[/autotag] (4-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) over the past year.

UFC adds Rachael Ostovich vs. Gina Mazany to Nov. 28 lineup

Rachael Ostovich is set to return to action after her recent USADA suspension

[autotag]Rachael Ostovich[/autotag] and [autotag]Gina Mazany[/autotag] will look to punch their tickets back into the win column – against each other.

The two UFC women’s flyweight fighters will square off Nov. 28 at a location and venue to be announced at a later date.

Multiple people with knowledge of the situation informed MMA Junkie of the booking Tuesday but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Ostovich (4-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) returns after a one-year U.S. Anti-Doping Agency-issued suspension for an out-of-competition urine sample that was collected Jan. 3. Because she received a four-month credit “due to time served under a provisional suspension in the latter half of 2019 for an atypical finding,” USADA said Ostovich was eligible to return Aug. 3.

Ostovich has lost back-to-back fights against Paige VanZant and Montana De La Rosa. Both fights ended via submission. Ostovich’s lone promotional victory came in her UFC debut in December 2017.

Mazany (6-4 MMA, 1-4 UFC) returned to the UFC in June after being released from the promotion in late 2019. At UFC on ESPN 10, Mazany lost to Julia Avila by first-round TKO.

With the addition, the Nov. 28 lineup includes:

  • Curtis Blaydes vs. Derrick Lewis
  • Norma Dumont vs. Ashlee Evans-Smith
  • Josh Parisian vs. Parker Porter
  • Gina Mazany vs. Rachael Ostovich
