Ohio State lands nine players on PFF top ten positional rankings

Ohio State lands nine players on PFF top ten positional rankings #GoBucks

Pro Football Focus (PFF) has been releasing their top ten positional rankings for returning players and Ohio State leads the way with nine players making an appearance on their respective positional list.

Of the ten running backs ranked, two Buckeyes make the list with both Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson making the cut. Henderson finished last season with a PFF receiving grade of 73.6, which led all Big Ten backs. Judkins leads all current Power Five backs with 2,726 rushing yards since 2022.

Emeka Egbuka also made his positional list at wide receiver and will have an opportunity to be the number-one option in Columbus after the departure of Marvin Harrison Jr. Donovan Jackson is the lone offensive lineman to make his positional list.

Both Jack Sawyer and J.T. Tuimoloau made the top ten list for the edge defenders and it makes sense considering Sawyer was the only edge last season to earn grades 85 or higher as both a pass-rusher and run-defender. Tuimoloau is fourth among Big Ten edge defenders the last two seasons with 69 pressures. Tyleik Williams also made his positional list after tallying 26 run-defense stops, which was second among Big Ten defensive tackles.

Denzel Burke also made the cut after forcing 10 incompletions this past season, which was 20th among Power Five cornerbacks. Caleb Downs was also the number one returning safety according to PFF.

Running back Quinshon Judkins has black stripe removed

Another highly talented transfer had his black stripe removed on Tuesday. #GoBucks

We’ve got another black strip alert that occurred during a spring practice session on Tuesday. We already told you about All-American transfer Caleb Downs receiving the honor, but on the same day, star Ole Miss running back transfer Quinshon Judkins also shed his black stripe and ceremonially became an official part of the Buckeye “brotherhood.”

It’s a new world for Judkins coming in as arguably the best running back in the SEC, and now he’s got a new home in Scarlet and Gray. During the brief ceremony, Judkins seemed excited and ready to get to work.

Ay, ya’ll, I appreciate everybody getting me better bro,” Judkins told teammates “I couldn’t do it without y’all. I’m happy to be in the best place in America bro. Go Bucks!”

We’ll continue to keep an eye on any further players that shed their black stripes as we continue to traverse 2024 spring practice at the Woody.

Ohio State transfer portal scouting report: Quinshon Judkins

Ohio State transfer portal scouting report: Quinshon Judkins #GoBucks

The Ohio State football season is over, but the offseason has just begun and the Buckeyes are putting in work in the transfer portal. The first transfer portal addition came from the Mid-American Conference with the addition of Will Kacmarek from the Ohio Bobcats. We dove into what to expect from him earlier this month.

We then looked at Will Howard, who some have deemed the quarterback to lead the Buckeyes to the Promised Land. I then took a crack at what to expect from my favorite addition, former Alabama Crimson Tide center, Seth McLaughlin.

I have had time to dig into some Quinshon Judkins film and despite the “disappointing” 2023 season, Judkins has a ton to offer and will be a focal point to the new and improved Ohio State offense in 2024. The star led the SEC in rushing yards as a freshman with 1,567 yards and even had 16 touchdowns, but what can we expect in 2024?

Name: Quinshon Judkins

Former School: Ole Miss Rebels

Height: 5-feet, 11-inches

Weight: 210 pounds

Position: Running Back

Strengths

Quinshon Judkins led the SEC in rushing yards as a freshman in 2022, which should be enough to excite any fanbase, but just watching him shows that he is an absolute load to tackle and rarely goes down on the first hit. Judkins is one of the strongest runners in the country and was arguably the most valuable player on his team in the last two seasons.

Judkins is the total package, with elite size for the position as well as top-notch strength and agility. It is really hard to find a weakness in his game, Judkins even possesses the ideal balance and vision you want in a lead back. He is also a very tough back who played through injury for a portion of last season.

Weaknesses

Judkins was still elite in 2023, but it was pretty easy to see why he would want to transfer. Opposing defenses loaded the box against Ole Miss and caused Judkins to have a severely slow start to the season. He was clearly bumped and bruised throughout the season and the Rebels showed no signs of letting him catch his breath. Judkins looked less explosive and easier to take down in 2023, but this off-season and sharing time in a loaded Ohio State backfield should help him get healthy and improve his play from still a very elite level from last year.

Expectations

I try to keep my expectations reasonable, but Quinshon Judkins is the definition of elite, and coming to Ohio State and being paired with TreVeyon Henderson was such an obvious move for him. Judkins gets to be the thunder to Henderson’s lightning, compete for a National Championship and save some wear on his tires for the NFL. He is a special player who has a legitimate shot to be an All-American despite sharing a backfield.

Transfer running back Quinshon Judkins likes the Columbus community so far

Ah, the Honeymoon period … #GoBucks

It’s never easy picking up your life and moving to a completely new area of the country. Especially when you are from the South and come up to live in longer and deeper winters up North.

That’s exactly what Ole Miss transfer running back Quinshon Judkins did during the offseason. Ohio State convinced him to transfer to Columbus, and he’s been getting himself acclimated ever since he made the choice and arrived on campus. Based on comments Judkins made at a transfer player media availability on Tuesday, he’s liking things so far.

When asked about his thoughts on Columbus and Ohio State, Judkins is clearly still in the honeymoon period.

“The fans here are very passionate. Everywhere you go they have Ohio State on, they talk about the football team all day, they know everything,” Judkins said. “I think the community here is very welcoming.”

Just wait Quinshon. You might want to use another word besides welcoming when you fumble a ball in scoring position, at least when it comes to some of the more vocal fans out there (you know who you are).

Five reasons to be excited for Ohio State transfer Quinshon Judkins

There is a lot to like about what Judkins brings to Columbus. #GoBucks

Ohio State football scored a major transfer win on Monday night when former Ole Miss running back [autotag]Quinshon Judkins[/autotag] committed to the Buckeyes.

It very much seemed like pipe dream when he initially entered the portal, but quickly made a visit to Columbus and made a very timely social media announcement. That alone got Buckeye Nation excited but what really should do the trick is the skill set that Judkins brings with him.

Judkins has been a beat. He ran for 1,158 yards and 15 touchdowns this past year, which precluded a season where he rushed for 1,567 yards and 16 scores. After watching some of his highlights, here are five reasons to be excited for Judkins in the Ohio State offense.

Ohio State lands major transfer, one of the best running backs from the SEC

A huge BOOM! for the Buckyes. #GoBucks

Ohio State football landed a huge commitment as they saw its archrival Michigan win a “College Football Playoff title.”

Ole Miss transfer running back, [autotag]Quinshon Judkins,[/autotag] committed to the Buckeyes late on Monday evening, giving them one of the best transfer running backs of the cycle.

Judkins will bring a unique skill set to Columbus, one that paired with TreVeyon Henderson, will give the Buckeyes one of the best tandems in the nation if he opts to stay. Regardless of how this season turned out for Ohio State, it is still setting itself up for a run at the CFP with more moves and news potentially on the way.

The talented back brings loads of experience with him, running for 2,725 yards and 31 scores in his two seasons with Ole Miss.

Ohio State currently has SEC transfer running back on campus

Well this is interesting for the Buckeyes

For the early part of the transfer portal window, it looked like Ohio State wasn’t interested in adding players, but that all changed after the Cotton Bowl.

The Buckeyes turned up the heat and received commitments from high-profile players like quarterback Will Howard and center Seth McLaughlin. They seem like they’re not done, as they are currently hosting Ole Miss running back [autotag]Quinshon Judkins[/autotag], this past seasons second-leading rusher in the SEC for a visit.

One of Judkins former teammates, cornerback Davison Igbinosun, joined the Buckeyes during last year’s transfer portal window, and surely they have spoken with each other about how Columbus operates.

Judkins ran for 1,158 yards on 271 carries with 15 touchdowns this past season, while also adding 149 yards and two scores through the air. He would be a huge addition to the Buckeyes offense.

USC is a school to watch for Ole Miss transfer running back Quinshon Judkins

This would be a huge get for USC.

Former USC Trojans Lane Kiffin and Jaxson Dart will take a big hit on offense at Ole Miss with the loss of running back Quinshon Judkins.

247Sports’ Matt Zenitz reports that Judkins, a star running back, has informed Ole Miss he intends to enter the transfer portal.

Judkins, 20, rushed for 1,158 yards on 271 carries with 15 touchdowns in 13 games this past season. He also added 149 receiving yards with two more TDs.

Judkins rushed for 104 yards on 30 carries in the Rebels’ 38-25 win over Penn State in the Peach Bowl last week.

USC will be in the mix for the hottest running back name in the transfer portal along with Auburn, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida State, LSU, Oregon and Texas A&M.

USC is going into the Big Ten. The Trojans are unlikely to have the same high-flying offense they had with Caleb Williams. Ball control and time of possession will be more important for this team and this offense in 2024. Getting a running back with Judkins’ quality would be a huge get for Lincoln Riley and his staff. Let’s see if USC can close the deal on this one.

Auburn named a school to watch for former Ole Miss RB Quinshon Judkins

Quinshon Judkins, an Alabama native, has been one of the best running backs in the country over the past two seasons.

[autotag]Quinshon Judkins[/autotag], one of the best running backs in the country, has announced he plans to enter the transfer portal and is set to be one of the top players available.

In two seasons at Ole Miss, he rushed for 2,725 yards and 31 touchdowns, averaging 5.0 yards per carry. The loss is a big blow for the Rebels ahead of the 2024 season but a massive gain for someone else, and one expert believes that school could be Auburn.

Brad Crawford of 247Sports included the Tigers on his six teams to watch for the Alabama native, alongside Michigan, Florida State, Alabama, LSU, and Oregon.

Judkins is from nearby Pike Road and turned down a late push from [autotag]Cadillac Williams[/autotag] and Auburn to sign with the Rebels out of high school. The Tigers could also be facing some depth concerns at running back, depending on what [autotag]Jarquez Hunter[/autotag] decides to do.

The junior is draft eligible and could declare early for the 2024 draft, leaving [autotag]Damari Alston[/autotag] and [autotag]Jeremiah Cobb[/autotag] as the only scholarship running backs on Auburn’s roster.

Even if Hunter does return, a 1-2 punch of Judkins and Hunter would help lessen the blow on [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag] and the revamped passing attack.

Ole Miss RB Quinshon Judkins to enter the transfer portal

This running back will have no shortage of suitors.

The transfer portal gained a surprise entrant on Thursday when Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins put his name in the hat.

Given the recent additions to the roster through the transfer portal, it might a bit of a shock that Lane Kiffin could potentially lose one of the best running backs in the country. Judkins got off to a slow start in 2023 but gained traction down the stretch.

Judkins amassed 3,006 yards from scrimmage in two seasons, including 2,725 rushing yards and 31 rushing touchdowns. Overall, he has scored 34 touchdowns for the Rebels over the last two seasons. He immediately becomes the most coveted running back in the transfer portal.

This will be quite the storyline to observe in the coming days and weeks. One should expect that just about every team will reach out to the Alabama product. Does he remain in the SEC or does Judkins look to join another Power Five conference for the 2024 season?
