Quincey McAdoo among three whose Arkansas football career is over, per report

Quincey McAdoo was a rising star before a car wreck left his life in danger.

Arkansas cornerback Quincey McAdoo was one of three Razorbacks players to be granted a medical hardship for the 2024 season.

McAdoo played one season at Arkansas before a car wreck left him with a vetebral injury, one significant enough it remains unclear whether he will ever play football again. Earlier this month, however, McAdoo posted to X photographs of him working out in hopes of resuming his football career. Then on Wednesday, he posted saying no one should count him out.

McAdoo didn’t refute the medical hardship nor confirm it.

If it happens, it won’t at Arkansas. A medical hardship leaves players who take one on scholarship, but the player is not allowed to play again for the school at which he or she took the hardship. The player can ultimately transfer to another school and play again, making the hardship, at that point, moot.

Joining McAdoo with hardships were offensive linemen Eli Henderson and Terry Wells. None of the three players will count against Arkansas’ 85-man scholarship roster.

McAdoo enrolled at Arkansas from Clarendon as a wide receiver, but struggled to find playing time. He asked coach Sam Pittman to move to cornerback about halfway through the year, where he shined, ultimately earning All-Freshman honors in the SEC. McAdoo missed the entire 2023 season because of his subsequent injury.

Quincey McAdoo may be a student-coach for Arkansas after car wreck

Arkansas cornerback Quincey McAdoo may soon be Arkansas coach Quincy McAdoo.

Arkansas cornerback Quincey McAdoo may soon become Arkansas coach Quincy McAdoo.

The Clarendon High sophomore broke out in the Hogs’ secondary halfway through last season after switching over from wide receiver at about the same time. But a car wreck in May left McAdoo hospitalized for a bulk of the summer and a return to the football is unlikely.

Coach Sam Pittman said Thursday, though, that now that McAdoo has re-joined his classmates and teammates back on campus in Fayetteville, he wanted McAdoo to be a student-coach, if the cornerback was up to it.

“He is doing really well,” Pittman said. “He’s coming every day now. We want him to coach, help us coach as a student-coach, until he gets his physicality back. And then we’ll figure out what happens after that.”

McAdoo was a four-star wideout at Clarendon in Arkansas’ Class of 2022. When the Hogs’ defensive backs were so badly struggling last year, the staff asked him to shift to the secondary. He immediately starred and shortly started.

Arkansas’ football prospects took a distant second to McAdoo’s health after the wreck. But Pittman said the CHS graduate seems to be getting stronger every day.

“I love him,” Pittman said. “I think he’s doing really good. I do. We had a long talk, he’ll have to tell you and I’m sure he’ll be more than happy to talk to you, but I think the start of camp crushed him. Because he wasn’t able to be out there with the team and all those things…I talked to him for 45 minutes yesterday and (based on) that conversation, I think he’s in good spirits.”

Return to football still a question mark for Arkansas cornerback Quincey McAdoo

Coach Sam Pittman said McAdoo has some big steps coming up in the next month in his rehab from a neck injury.

Arkansas coach Sam Pittman provided the latest update on injured cornerback Quincey McAdoo on Wednesday.

McAdoo, who was injured in a car wreck on Interstate-49 in May, hurt his neck and little has been known about the extent of the injury. Pittman said McAdoo has been rehabbinng and there’s a “great chance” he can return to his former self.

“Whether it’s for me to say that he’ll have an opportunity to play this year would probably be premature on that,” Pittman said.

McAdoo was Arkansas’ star of the secondary last year, albeit in only about a fourth of the season. The now-sophomore from Clarendon High moved from wide receiver during the season and immediately became the Hogs’ best defender in the backfield. He had 30 tackles in just five games at the end of the regular season while also intercepting two passes.

“We’re just hoping that he can come back and live a normal, full life, and if that happens to have football in it, then so be it,” Pittman said.

Arkansas cornerback Quincey McAdoo was given two citations following his car accident on Interstate 49 last week, per a report from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

McAdoo was hospitalized May 1 and was listed in stable condition May 2. His playing status, however, is unclear. A source told WholeHogSports that McAdoo was suffering an injury to vertebrae. The extent of the injury is unknown.

The report from the Arkansas State Police was made public Tuesday. It noted two citations for McAdoo; one for driving without a license and the other for an improper lane change. According to the report, McAdoo was not wearing a seatbelt.

The report states, via witness testimony, McAdoo was driving in the right-hand lane and was passing a 2020 Tesla MOD driven by Kevin Hickey of Fort Smith when McAdoo’s vehicle changed lanes. The Arkansas defense led by Drew Sanders and Chris “Pooh” Paul highlight Player of the Game selections.

Drew Sanders had another great day, finishing with 12 tackles, a sack and tackle for loss. Chris “Pooh” Paul had his best game of the season, ending the day with five tackles, two sacks and two tackles for loss. It’s the first time Paul has received Player of the Game honors in his career. The defense, as a whole, played their best game of the season.

The same can’t be said for the offense, as they were only able to put up 10 points and had another rough outing.

The three Razorbacks Wire staffers – editor E. Wayne and contributors Connor Goodson and Kendall Hilton – were able to put together five deserving Hogs for Player of the Game honors despite the tough loss.

Here’s more details and their complete list of player selections below.
