Arkansas cornerback Quincey McAdoo may soon become Arkansas coach Quincy McAdoo.
The Clarendon High sophomore broke out in the Hogs’ secondary halfway through last season after switching over from wide receiver at about the same time. But a car wreck in May left McAdoo hospitalized for a bulk of the summer and a return to the football is unlikely.
Coach Sam Pittman said Thursday, though, that now that McAdoo has re-joined his classmates and teammates back on campus in Fayetteville, he wanted McAdoo to be a student-coach, if the cornerback was up to it.
“He is doing really well,” Pittman said. “He’s coming every day now. We want him to coach, help us coach as a student-coach, until he gets his physicality back. And then we’ll figure out what happens after that.”
McAdoo was a four-star wideout at Clarendon in Arkansas’ Class of 2022. When the Hogs’ defensive backs were so badly struggling last year, the staff asked him to shift to the secondary. He immediately starred and shortly started.
Arkansas’ football prospects took a distant second to McAdoo’s health after the wreck. But Pittman said the CHS graduate seems to be getting stronger every day.
“I love him,” Pittman said. “I think he’s doing really good. I do. We had a long talk, he’ll have to tell you and I’m sure he’ll be more than happy to talk to you, but I think the start of camp crushed him. Because he wasn’t able to be out there with the team and all those things…I talked to him for 45 minutes yesterday and (based on) that conversation, I think he’s in good spirits.”
