All 32 NFL quarterbacks (including Bo Nix) ranked by Total QBR

Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix has a Total QBR rating of 54.4 through ten weeks. He ranks 20th in the NFL.

Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix posted a Total QBR rating of 69.2 in a 16-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last week, bringing his season-long Total QBR average to 54.4.

That’s a slight improvement from last week’s rating (53.3), and Nix has jumped from being ranked No. 22 last week up to No. 20 this week.

Nix’s traditional passer rating this season is 82.9, which ranks 26th.

Unlike a traditional passer rating, the Total QBR “incorporates all of a quarterback’s contributions to winning, including how he impacts the game on passes, rushes, turnovers and penalties,” according to ESPN.

The metric takes into account scenarios that a traditional passer rating overlooks and considers “a team’s level of success or failure on every play to provide the proper context and then allocates credit to the quarterback and his teammate to produce a clearer measure of quarterback efficiency.”

With that context in mind, here’s a look at how Nix stacks up against the NFL’s other starting quarterbacks this fall.

Kevin Harlan: Broncos had Bo Nix, Jayden Daniels ranked as top QBs in NFL draft

Kevin Harlan said during Sunday’s broadcast that Broncos coach Sean Payton had Bo Nix and Jayden Daniels ranked as the top QBs in the draft.

In the second quarter of Sunday’s game between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs, CBS play-by-play commentator Kevin Harlan dropped a doozy of a nugget from the pre-draft process.

Harlan relayed that Broncos coach Sean Payton told them he knew quarterback Bo Nix was “his guy” after 15 passes at a private workout this spring. That’s not new information; Payton has said as much in the past.

But this is new information — Harlan said Denver had “[Nix] and [Jayden] Daniels rated one-two and in no particular order.”

If true, that means the Broncos had Nix ranked higher than both Caleb Williams and Drake Maye on their big board this spring.

Harlan’s info straight from Payton contradicts a KOA Radio report from this spring that said Denver had Nix ranked as QB3 behind Williams and Daniels. Somebody’s lying, and it’s impossible to know who.

Nix and Daniels have certainly looked sharp this fall, scoring 14 and 13 touchdowns, respectively, through the first ten weeks of the season.

All 32 NFL quarterbacks (including Bo Nix) ranked by Total QBR

Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix has a Total QBR rating of 43.1 through five weeks. He ranks 25th in the NFL.

Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix had perhaps the best game of his career against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, completing 70.4% of his passes for 206 yards with two touchdown passes and no interceptions. He also rushed for a touchdown in a 34-18 win.

Despite that positive performance, Nix dropped from No. 20 down to No. 25 in ESPN’s Total QBR rankings this week. Strangely, ESPN gave Nix a 26.9 Total QBR rating against the Raiders, his worst of the season. That dropped Nix’s season-long rating down to 43.1.

Nix’s traditional passer rating against Las Vegas was 117.2, which represented his best passer rating thus far.

Nix had no turnovers against the Raiders, but he was sacked three times. Here’s a look at how Nix stacks up against the NFL’s other starting quarterbacks this fall.

CBS Sports ranks Bo Nix as worst starting QB in the NFL

CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin ranked Denver Broncos rookie Bo Nix last in his Week 5 quarterback rankings.

Week 5 of the 2024 season is right around the corner, and prior to the Denver Broncos‘ matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, CBS Sports came out with their weekly quarterback rankings. Spoiler alert: It’s not good at all for Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix.

CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin ranked Nix as the worst quarterback in the league going into this weekend, which was down two spots from his Week 4 ranking.

“He’s 2-2 to start his rookie campaign, but that’s mostly in spite of a wildly erratic passing performance,” Benjamin wrote in his analysis. “His mobility has come in handy in avoiding sacks for consecutive games, though.”

After back-to-back 200-plus yard passing performances, Nix had a career-low 60 passing yards in less-than-ideal conditions against the New York Jets in Week 4.

Nix became the first Broncos quarterback since 2016 to go back-to-back games without a sack, which is a testament to the mobility Benjamin referenced.

Nix will have perfect conditions for Sunday’s game in his AFC West debut, so hopefully he can put on a show against the Raiders.

Seahawks’ Geno Smith lands elite placement in latest QB rankings

Seahawks’ Geno Smith lands elite placement in latest QB rankings

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith believes he’s an elite signal caller. Smith proved capable of hanging with the best passers in the league during his breakout 2022 campaign. He ranked first in the league in completion percentage (69.8%, minimum 100 passing attempts), fourth in passing touchdowns (30), and eighth in yards (4,282) in his first season as the franchise’s starting QB.

Injuries and a disjointed offense limited Smith’s potential in 2023. It’s true that his passing yards and touchdown totals suffered from missing two regular-season contests, but it’s worth acknowledging his completion percentage also plummeted to 64.7%. The Seahawks made offseason changes to the offense, hiring Ryan Grubb as the new offensive coordinator.

At least one major outlet sees Smith recapturing his 2022 magic this season. The Ringers’ Steven Ruiz recently released his annual QB rankings. Smith clocks in at No. 10 overall, ranking ahead of quarterbacks like CJ Stroud, Jordan Love, Tua Tagovailoa, and Brock Purdy.

https://twitter.com/ringernfl/status/1831413416801841613

“Geno Smith has developed into one of the most well-rounded quarterbacks in the NFL,” Steven Ruiz writes. “He doesn’t have the biggest arm in the league, but he might throw the prettiest ball. He can’t run away from defenders like Lamar Jackson or Kyler Murray, but he can make plays on the move. He steps up in the face of pressure rather than backing down. He makes quick, smart decisions but will also hold on to the ball for a beat longer when the situation calls for it.”

The Seahawks are expecting big things from Smith this season. He still possesses a fearsome trio of receivers in DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Hopefully the offensive line is improved through the acquisitions of George Fant and Connor Williams. Smith could thrive in Grubb’s new-look offense.

Where does Saturday Down South rank Jackson Arnold among SEC quarterbacks?

Where did Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Jackson Arnold land in Saturday Down South’s SEC quarterback rankings after week one?

[autotag]Jackson Arnold[/autotag] had a strong home debut for the Oklahoma Sooners. He didn’t put up the big yardage numbers that some of his [autotag]SEC[/autotag] counterparts did, but he threw for four touchdowns and had an adjusted completion percentage (taking away drops and throwaways) of 83.3%.

He showed off his arm on the first drive of the game, connecting with Jalil Farooq on a 47-yard strike before finding Bauer Sharp for his first passing touchdown of the day.

Later, he connected with transfer wide receiver [autotag]Deion Burks[/autotag] on three beautiful touchdown throws to highlight Arnold’s day. After his performance, and with what happened across the SEC, Saturday Down South’s Matt Hinton moved Arnold up one spot to No. 8 in his SEC quarterback power rankings.

Good luck trying to discern much from Arnold’s Week 1 line against Temple, which you could describe as prolific (4 touchdowns!) or underwhelming (5.6 yards per attempt?) depending on which stat you prefer to linger on. In real time the verdict was more straightforward: Kid can sling it. – Hinton, Saturday Down South

Arnold comes in just behind Garrett Nussmeier of LSU at No. 7, Tennessee’s Nico Iamaleava at No. 6 and Missouri’s Brady Cook at No. 5.

Nussmeier played really well in the Tigers’ loss to USC right up to his final two plays on a critical drive late in the game. But still, he showed he’s more than capable of directing LSU’s offense.

Like Arnold, Iamaleava was making his first home start as the Volunteers starting quarterback. He wowed those in attendance with 300 yards and three touchdowns. Like Arnold, Iamaleava was a five-star quarterback in the 2023 recruiting class. The pair will likely be forever linked as they’re on a similar timeline.

Then there’s Cook, who, like Arnold, wasn’t asked to do a whole lot for the Tigers in their win over Murray State. But he accounted for a pair of touchdowns and is one of the more important players in the country. If he continues to play like he did in 2023, the Tigers could be in for a playoff berth.

Arnold no doubt has the talent to be one of the best quarterbacks in the conference, but with just two starts under his belt, there’s still a lot to prove for the former five-star prospect.
