Packers promote Jon-Eric Sullivan to VP of player personnel

Jon-Eric Sullivan was promoted to vice president of player personnel under Brian Gutekunst in the Packers front office.

The Green Bay Packers promoted Jon-Eric Sullivan to vice president of player personnel within general manager Brian Gutekunst’s front office on Friday.

Sullivan has been the team’s co-director of player personnel since 2018. He previously spent two years as director of college scouting and 12 years as a college scout, giving him almost two decades of personnel experience in Green Bay.

Sullivan, a graduate of Gardner-Webb, originally joined the Packers as a scouting intern in 2003. He covered the Central Plains (2008-11) and Southeast (2012-15) regions as a Packers college scout before becoming an executive within the front office in 2016.

Sullivan is now third in command behind Gutekunst and director of football operations Milt Hendrickson.

Gutekunst once described Sullivan as “indispensable” to the Packers in an interview with PackersNews.com in 2018.

In 2020, NFL agents pointed to Sullivan as a future general manager candidate.

The Packers also promoted Bryan Engel to director of sports medicine/head athletic trainer, Nate Weir to associate athletic trainer/director of rehab and return to play, Chris Gaines and Sean Linton to college scout, Dawson Friedland to senior football data analyst, and Eric Prosise to manager of football application development.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a flurry of roster moves Saturday afternoon ahead of the Week-10 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

Running backs Chris Carson (foot) and Carlos Hyde (hamstring) and defensive end Benson Mayowa (ankle) have been downgraded to out for Sunday’s game. All three had been listed on Friday’s injury report as questionable.

Carson, Hyde and Mayowa now join center Ethan Pocic (concussion), cornerback Shaquill Griffin (concussion/hamstring), cornerback Quinton Dunbar (knee) and defensive tackle Brian Mone (ankle) who had already been ruled out for Week 10.

In addition, Seattle place Mone on the injured reserve and activated cornerback Neiko Thorpe to the active roster.

Finally, the Seahawks promoted running back Alex Collins and defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison from the practice squad.

Kickoff in Los Angeles is set for 1:25 p.m. PT Sunday afternoon.

Seahawks activate Chad Wheeler from practice squad to active roster

The Seattle Seahawks have activated tackle Chad Wheeler from the practice squad to the active roster for depth during Week 1 in Atlanta.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a roster move Saturday afternoon, promoting tackle Chad Wheeler from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of the Week 1 matchup in Atlanta against the Falcons.

Earlier in the day, Seattle had added tackle Jamarco Jones to the injury report as questionable with an undisclosed illness. With Cedric Ogbuehi already ruled out of the season opener with a pectoral injury, Wheeler gives the Seahawks a little insurance on the offensive line.

In light of the roster rule changes this year allowing a 55-man roster on game day, Seattle does not need to make a corresponding move to clear a spot for Wheeler, who can also return to the practice squad Monday without having to clear waivers.
