Browns add rookie CB Prince Smith to the practice squad

Smith has been with the Eagles and Giants in 2020

The Cleveland Browns announced on Tuesday that the team has added cornerback Prince Smith to the practice squad, effective immediately. Smith fills the one vacancy on the practice squad held over from last week

Smith is a 5-10 rookie from New Hampshire. He originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles. Smith also bounced into practice squad duty with the New York Giants.

At New Hampshire, Smith was known for his positional versatility and his competitiveness. He comes from a press-man coverage background and has played both outside and in the slot.

No word yet on what jersey number Smith will wear in Cleveland.

Former Eagles’ UDFA CB Prince Smith signs with the Giants

The New York Giants have a need at cornerback and the team snagged former Eagles undrafted free agent Prince Smith according to his agency.

The Giants signed Smith after failing to come to terms with cornerback Ross Cockrell, Sam Beal opted out of the 2020 season, and the NFL placed Deandre Baker on the Commissioner Exempt list.

Signed as an undrafted free agent in May, Smith was a four-year starter for New Hampshire and was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2016.

Over his final three seasons, Smith started 29 games and was named the team’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player following his senior season in which he finished third on the team in tackles (64), second in interceptions (three) and second in pass breakups (seven).

Giants to sign rookie DB Prince Smith

The New York Giants will sign rookie defensive back Prince Smith, who was released by the Philadelphia Eagles last week.

Mere hours after an agreement with veteran cornerback Ross Cockrell fell through, the New York Giants were once again hard at work, coming to terms with rookie defensive back Prince Smith.

Smith’s agent announced the signing on Twitter.

Smith, a four-year starter at New Hampshire, originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles after going undrafted in April, but was waived last week as the team trimmed their roster to 80.

The 5-foot-10, 192-pound Smith may be considered undersized, but his strength makes up for it. He squat-lifted 495 pounds in 2018, which broke Wildcats’ school record for a defensive back by 20 pounds.

Although Smith is certainly not on the same level as Cockrell and will not factor into the CB2 race, he does add young depth to the Giants’ secondary which needs all the help it can get at the moment.

The Philadelphia Eagles continue to reduce their roster and after re-signing defensive end Vinny Curry, the team just announced that they’ve waived defensive tackle Bruce Hector and defensive back Prince Smith.

Hector played college football at South Florida and signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2018.

Hector spent the 2019 season on and off the practice squad and the Eagles active roster.
