A Big Ten football coach texted “Major Wow!!!!!!” to the Tribune.

President Trump played golf with Brett Favre at Trump National Golf Club

President Trump welcomed former Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre to Trump National in Bedminster, New Jersey.

With recent news swirling about President Donald Trump’s interest in getting the British Open to one of his Scottish courses, the leader of the free world turned his sights on a course closer to home this weekend, playing a round with one of the National Football League’s all-time greats.

President Trump welcomed former Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets quarterback Brett Favre to Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

The photo was distributed by the White House on Saturday afternoon.

Just over a month ago, Favre told TMZ Sports in a video interview that Kaepernick’s willingness to sacrifice his NFL career to fight for social justice felt reminiscent of Tillman’s sacrifice for his country. Tillman, a safety for the Arizona Cardinals, chose to leave the NFL for the U.S. Army in the wake of Sept. 11, 2001. He was killed by friendly fire in 2004 while deployed in Afghanistan.

“I can only think of — right off the top of my head — Pat Tillman’s another guy who did something similar, and we regard him as a hero,” Favre said. “So I’d assume that hero status will be stamped with Kaepernick as well.”

On Tuesday, a report from the New York Times alleged President Donald Trump asked Woody Johnson, New York Jets co-owner and American ambassador to the United Kingdom, to help steer the British Open to Trump Turnberry in Scotland.

It didn’t take long for President Trump to refute the story, saying the following on Wednesday during an afternoon White House briefing: “No, I never spoke to Woody Johnson about that, about Turnberry. Turnberry is a highly respected course, as you know, one of the best in the world, and I read a story about it today … I never spoke to Woody Johnson about doing that, no.”

Report: Jets owner, U.S. Ambassador Woody Johnson investigated for racist, sexist comments

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is reported to have been investigated for racist and sexist comments.

The New York Jets have not been able to get out of their own way for more than half a century. Another page in the book of futility was added Wednesday with news team owner Woody Johnson was investigated after allegations he made racist and sexist comments to staff, CNN reported.

Per the report:

Robert Wood “Woody” Johnson, the top envoy since August 2017 to one of the United States’ most important allies, made racist generalizations about Black men and questioned why the Black community celebrates Black History Month, according to exclusive new information shared with CNN by three sources and a diplomat familiar with the complaints to the State Department inspector general.

His comments about women’s looks have been “cringeworthy,” a source with knowledge of the situation said, and two sources said it was a struggle to get him on board for an event for International Women’s Day.

“He’s said some pretty sexist, racist,” things, the diplomat with knowledge of the complaints made to the IG said of Johnson, an heir to the Johnson & Johnson fortune and one of the owners of the New York Jets.

This comes immediately after a New York Times report the United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom was pressured by President Donald Trump to ask the British government to steer the British Open to Trump Turnberry, one of five golf courses the president owns outside the U.S.

Johnson’s deputy, Lewis A. Lukens, advised against bringing the request to the British government because of a potential ethical violation that would come with the President using his position for private gain, according to the Times. But Johnson, a Trump donor who received the ambassadorship in 2017 after the President’s election, felt pressure to proceed and broached the subject three weeks later with Scotland’s Secretary of State, David Mundell.

One of the star players on the Jets, DB Jamal Adams, who has been looking to move on from the team via trade, weighed in with his disapproval.

Trump shames Washington for trying to be ‘politically correct’ and changing name

In a tweet on Monday, Trump shamed both Washington and Cleveland for trying to be politically correct and change their controversial names.

President Donald Trump made his thoughts known when it comes to the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians potentially changing their team names amidst outcries from fans and the sporting world at large.

While tweeting on Monday afternoon, Trump shamed both teams for trying to be ‘politically correct’ and change their names, claiming that both are names of strength, not weakness.

While there has not yet been any confirmation that Washington is going to change their name, it seems inevitable at this point, with options like the Warriors, Redtails, or Redhawks racing out to the forefront. Whatever the name ends up being, I’m sure Trump will let his thoughts be known.

Drew Brees responds to support from President Trump

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has responded to President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump supported Drew Brees Friday and said the New Orleans Saints’ quarterback did not need to take back his comments about disrespecting the American Flag.

Hour later Brees reached out to the president via his Instagram account with a response.

Brees’ reply:

Through my ongoing conversations with friends, teammates, and leaders in the black community, I realize this is not an issue about the American flag. It has never been. We can no longer use the flag to turn people away or distract them from the real issues that face our black communities.

We did this back in 2017, and regretfully I brought it back with my comments this week. We must stop talking about the flag and shift our attention to the real issues of systemic racial injustice, economic oppression, police brutality, and judicial & prison reform.

We are at a critical juncture in our nation’s history! If not now, then when?

We as a white community need to listen and learn from the pain and suffering of our black communities. We must acknowledge the problems, identify the solutions, and then put this into action. The black community cannot do it alone. This will require all of us.

WATCH: President Trump mentions Alabama football in press conference

During his Thursday press conference, President Donald Trump mentioned Alabama football.

During his Thursday press conference about the coronavirus, President Donald Trump mentioned Alabama football. And regardless of political stance, it’s still very cool that Trump mentioned Alabama football out of all other programs in the country.

“Our normal is if you have 100,00 people in an Alabama football game or 110,000 to be specific,” Trump said. “Normal” is not going to be a game where you have 50,000. We want 110,00 people there. We want every seat occupied. Normal is not going to be a game where we have 50,000” people.

President Trump attended the Alabama vs. LSU matchup last November,

Trump was at UA’s Bryant Denny stadium, capacity almost 102,000, last year for the Alabama/LSU game. The Tide is set to start its season Sept. 5 vs. USC in Arlington, Texas.

This shout out today comes after President Trump had a conference call with major league sports commissioners a little over a week ago, and according to ESPN, “President Donald Trump said he believes the NFL season should start on time in September.”

The call included 12 major sports commissioners and top executives, including the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, NHL, Major League Soccer, WNBA, WWE Wrestling, the PGA Tour, UFC, IndyCar, LPGA, and Breeders Cup, according to a White House pool report.

Although the future is full of uncertainty, this news at least brings a dose of hope as sports fans all over the world have been missing watching their favorite sports.

Golf commissioners Jay Monahan, Mike Whan named to council by President Trump

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and LPGA commissioner Mike Whan are among the sports figures named to an advisory group by President Trump

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and LPGA commissioner Mike Whan are among the multitude of U.S. sports figures named to an advisory group by President Trump.

The council is one of the several coronavirus task forces put together by the Trump administration as it looks towards re-opening the economy.

Trump discussed this new council, dubbed the Great American Economic Revival Industry Group, during Tuesday’s Rose Garden press briefing. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the council is scheduled to take part in a call on Wednesday.

Monahan and Whan are on the committee along with the commissioners of the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL as well as the heads of UFC, NASCAR, WWE, USTA and WNBA and others.

“We have to get our sports back. I’m tired of watching baseball games that are 14 years old,” President Donald Trump said on Tuesday. “But I haven’t actually had too much time to watch. I would say maybe I watch one batter then I get back to work.”

The panel of advisers, whom Trump said he will consult by phone, will operate separately from the White House task force that’s leading the administration’s public health strategy to contain and mitigate the pandemic, though there is expected to be some overlap.

President Trump meets with NFL, hopes to have football on time

The President wants the NFL to have a season on time.

[jwplayer C7QKW4Cy-ThvAeFxT]

It is a tumultuous time for professional sports in the United States. The NBA, NHL and MLB are all shuttered due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the future of the NFL remains someone uncertain. Teams have tiptoed through the offseason to this point, next up being a heavily modified version of the NFL draft.

President Trump did a call with the heads of all major sports leagues on Saturday and when the topic of the NFL came up, Trump was optimistic with many caveats.

In reading over the story above it sounds as if the president wants things to be at a point where the NFL regular season can start on time but left it very open to not.

At this point, everything is speculation. Doctors and think-tanks all have ideas about when life can return to normal but there’s a huge difference between you being able to go into Taco Bell and eat your Burrito Supreme than 75,000 people packing a sports stadium.

President Trump is hopeful football season will start on time

according to ESPN, President Donald Trump said he believes the NFL season should start on time in September.

On Saturday morning, President Trump had a conference call with major league sports commissioners and according to ESPN, “President Donald Trump said he believes the NFL season should start on time in September.”

This news comes as the coronavirus has taken the world by storm cancelling all NCAA spring sports, the 2020 Olympics, suspended the NBA season, and has even delayed the start of MLB, NHL and more.

“Trump also said he hopes to have fans back in stadiums and arenas by August and September, sources said, though it is currently unclear if medical experts find that to be a realistic timeline amid the current coronavirus pandemic.”

And according to the report, Trump is also trying to come up with ways for fans to be able to attend games and events in the current economy:

“Trump also raised the idea of the leagues working together to lobby for tax credits that used to exist for entertainment expenses, such as the ability to deduct concessions and tickets from taxes, sources said. That would be a way for leagues to jumpstart fans’ ability to return to stadiums in a difficult economy.”

Although the future is full of uncertainty, this news at least brings a dose of hope as sports fans all over the world have been missing watching their favorite sports.

The NFL Draft is still scheduled to take place from April 23-25th, although it will be a virtual draft.

Fans, prospects and their families will not be present at the draft.
