Texas A&M guard Wade Taylor IV named preseason first-team All-SEC and Player of the Year

Following a breakout sophomore season, Aggies guard Wade Taylor IV was named both preseason first-team All-SEC, as well as Player of the Year by Jon Rothstein of College Hoops Today.

One of Texas A&M basketball’s rising stars is getting high praise ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Wade Taylor IV was named to both preseason first-team All-SEC and Player of the Year by Jon Rothstein of College Hoops Today. The junior guard is coming off a breakout 2022-23 campaign in which he led the Aggies in scoring (16.8 ppg), assists (3.9 apg), and steals (1.7 spg) in roughly 28.7 minutes per game. Taylor also earned AP first-team All-SEC honors for his accomplishments on the hardwood last season.

Taylor’s ascendance in the backcourt was a major factor in the Aggies turning their season around last fall. After a demoralizing loss to Wofford dropped the Maroon and White to 6-5 on the season, Texas A&M went 17-3 in their remaining 20 regular season games to finish the year 23-8.

The Aggies would go on to reach a second consecutive SEC title game while also returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018, ending their postseason run with a 25-10 record.

This latest accolade is further evidence of Taylor getting the preseason respect he deserves. Coupled with the return of Tyrece “Boots” Radford for a super-senior season, the Aggies have a case to be made for boasting one of the country’s best backcourts, and Taylor’s ascension is by all counts a major factor in the heightened expectations for the Aggies this year. As head coach Buzz Williams recently advocated, it’s time to win the whole thing this season.

The Aggies will kick off their 2023-24 campaign against Texas A&M-Commerce on Monday, Nov. 6, from Reed Arena.

Media predicts Texas A&M’s finish in SEC West, Five Aggies make Preseason All-SEC

With the SEC’s 2023 media days having wrapped up, the projected order of finish was revealed for Texas A&M, who saw five Aggies earn Preseason All-SEC recognition.

With SEC media days having wrapped up on Friday, the festivities officially conclude with the release of this year’s Preseason All-SEC candidates and the unveiling of the predicted order of finish for the 2023 season.

This year’s rollout carries some added significance as it marks the final season of the two-division, 14-team format. Next year, the SEC will welcome Texas and Oklahoma into the fold and abandon the division structure, as each program will play eight conference games for the 2024 season.

Ahead of the 2023 season, Texas A&M was predicted by the media to finish third in the SEC West, behind Alabama (1) and LSU (2). The Crimson Tide received 165 votes to win the West, edging out LSU, who received 117. The Aggies, meanwhile, received one first-place vote.

Over in the East, Georgia was predicted to win the division with 265 first-place votes and additionally was picked to win the SEC Championship with 181 points.

Additionally, Aggie football saw five players earn Preseason All-SEC recognition on Friday after polling by the media at media days. Ainias Smith was named a first-team all-purpose player, second-team return specialist, and third-team wide receiver.

At their primary positions, Nik Constantinou, McKinnley Jackson, and Demani Richardson were each named to the second team, while Layden Robinson earned third-team distinctions.

With just under two months until the start of the 2023 season, Texas A&M will prepare for their first matchup of the season as they play host to New Mexico on Saturday, September 2, at Kyle Field, with kick-off set for 6:00 p.m. CT.

Athlon Sports names 8 Tigers to post-spring All-SEC team

Eight Auburn Tigers led by linebacker Zakoby McClain made the post-spring All-SEC teams by Athlon Sports.

In the past, we had to wait almost all summer long to first see the predictions for the Athlon Sports and Lindy’s of the world when the magazines hit the book shelves.

Not anymore as the Internet has changed that for some time now. Athlon Sports is on top of the conferences after spring practice concluded by releasing post-spring all conference teams including the SEC in which eight Auburn Tigers have made the list.

Here’s a look at each one:

Auburn football: Six Tigers earn spots on preseason Coaches All-SEC team

The Tigers put two players on the first-team All-SEC team as voted on by the coaches.

Big things are expected of Auburn’s defense and that is apparent by placement of two Tigers on the first-team All-SEC defensive team by conference coaches.

Defensive lineman Big Kat Bryant and linebacker K.J. Britt earned those spots on the first team. As a junior in 2019, Britt made 69 total tackles along with 10 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Bryant, looking to replace Derrick Brown and Marlon Davidson as studs along the defensive line, made 16 tackles, two tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, nine quarterback hurries and recovered one fumble last season.

Brodarious Hamm, one of the new-look offensive lines for the Tigers, earned second team honors. Bo Nix, Seth Williams and Christian Tutt were named to the third team. Tutt earned spots at the all-purpose position, defensive back and return specialist.
