“My daughter is so excited, she’s telling everyone, like way before we told anyone else.”

Jimmy Fallon asked for a drum roll shortly after Michelle Wie West joined him on the set Monday night. Wie West, tournament host of this week’s Mizuho Americas Open at Liberty National, was there to promote her new documentary, “Dream Big: The Michelle Wie Story,” but she also had some exciting personal news.

She’s pregnant.

“My daughter is so excited, she’s telling everyone, like way before we told anyone else,” Wie West told Fallon. “Her teacher called us over, and said ‘Can I talk to you for a second? She was like, are you?’ We did IVF this time and (Makenna) kept saying, ‘Oh, my parents are going to L.A. to get the baby.’ “

Wie West retired from professional golf last summer after teeing it up in her final U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach. She won five times on the LPGA, including the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open at Pinehurst No. 2.

Her new documentary airs on Saturday, May 18, on NBC.

Scottie Scheffler’s wife, Meredith, is pregnant with couple’s first child

With a late April due date, it’s possible that Scheffler may play a limited schedule ahead of the PGA Championship.

ORLANDO — Scottie Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, are expecting the couple’s first child in late April. NBC’s Dan Hicks mentioned the pregnancy on the air on Sunday as cameras showed a very pregnant Meredith, who walked the Bay Hill Club & Lodge course during the final round along with Scottie’s parents.

The 27-year-old Scheffler, who won the Arnold Palmer Invitational for his seventh career PGA Tour title, tied the knot in 2020 and had this to say to PGA Tour Sirius/XM Radio about expecting their first child.

“It’s going to be pretty wild. I don’t think it’s hit either of us quite yet, maybe sometime when the baby is moving around in her stomach a bunch, but it’s an exciting time for us as a family,” he said. “It’s been a pretty exciting last seven months or so and we’re looking forward to hopefully getting the baby out of there nice and healthy and with a healthy momma and then we’ll go from there.”

Scheffler said he will play this week at the Players Championship and do his final pre-Masters prep in Houston and take the week off before the Masters, which begins April 11. With a late April due date, it’s possible that Scheffler may play a limited schedule ahead of the PGA Championship in Louisville  beginning May 12.

After Scheffler finished his radio interview, he headed back to the 18th green at Bay Hill for the award ceremony, where he received the red alpaca sweater that Palmer made famous. He turned to Meredith, who was some 50 feet behind him and said, “Hustle up.”

“I’m not exactly fast these days,” she replied.

Here’s wishing the Schefflers well in the final trimester.

In social media posts, the couple shared photos of a sign and a pair of baby shoes.

Jessica Korda hasn’t played on the LPGA since May due to a lingering back injury, and it looks like she won’t tee it up again professionally until next year. There’s a good reason, too.

On Friday, the 30-year-old Korda and her husband, Johnny DelPrete, announced they’re expecting their first child, a baby boy due February 2024.

In social media posts, the couple shared photos of their dog, a Mini Goldendoodle named Charlie, and a sign saying ‘DELPRETE TEE TIME FOR 3 COMING FEBRUARY 2024’ with a blue pair of baby shoes propped up against the sign.

Korda and DelPrete have been married since Dec. 11, 2021.

AIG Women’s Open winner Sophia Popov announces she’s pregnant

Popov was on medical leave for her right shoulder when she learned an even longer break would be required.

It wasn’t long after Sophia Popov made the decision to take a medical leave for the rest of 2022 to heal her right shoulder that she learned an even longer break was now required as she and husband Maximilian Mehles are expecting their first child in June.

“Both of us are over the moon,” said Popov, who is staying with family in Germany and Austria through the end of the month. Mehles, a former Kentucky golfer who was on the bag when Popov won at Royal Troon, recently took a job in accounting.

Popov, 30, had an MRI done while at the AIG Women’s British Open last August and was diagnosed with supraspinatus tendinopathy, which is associated with impingement syndrome. She played one more time at the CP Women’s Open in late August before ultimately deciding that she needed time to heal. She immediately felt that a tremendous weight had been lifted.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cm7awqyJByB/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

“All the stress was flowing out of my body,” said Popov, who found out in October that she was pregnant.

Diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis as a young woman, Popov said doctors have frequently told her over the years not to wait too long to have children. Both conditions can impact fertility.

“We kind of said, we don’t want to wait too long,” said Popov. “I don’t want to get into a situation where I’m under pressure.”

Seeing the recent success of moms like Stacy Lewis, who won after giving birth to daughter Chesnee, has bolstered Popov’s resolve to return to the tour, in 2024 at the latest. She can see herself playing some test events toward the end of 2023, possibly on the Ladies European Tour or Epson Tour.

The 2020 AIG Women’s British Open champion said she doesn’t want to return to the game until she’s fit and ready to go, noting that what traveling moms do on the road is “super underrated.”

Popov already knows that coming back to the LPGA as a mom will give her a whole new perspective on the game.

“We’re lucky enough in our sport to be able to do that,” said Popov. “Golfers often peak in their 30s or early 40s sometimes. It’s great also for your kid to see that that’s a possibility. You can be a high-performance athlete and do something at a high level, while traveling with your kid and showing them the world a little.”

Seven-time major winner and Olympic gold medalist Inbee Park announces she’s pregnant

Park, 34, last competed on the LPGA in August at the AIG Women’s British Open, where she tied for 22nd.

Inbee Park took to Instagram early this week to announce that she and her husband Gi Hyeob Nam are expecting. Park, 34, last competed on the LPGA in August at the AIG Women’s British Open at Muirfield, where she tied for 22nd.

“We are thrilled to announce that we will be welcoming new member of our family,” Park wrote on Instagram. “Thank you all for so much support and love.”

A seven-time major winner, Olympic gold medalist and member of the LPGA World Golf Hall of Fame, Park first joined the tour in 2007 and has amassed 21 career LPGA titles.

In 2019, the LPGA updated its maternity policy to give moms two years from the date of the baby’s birth to return to competition. Once moms return, they have the same status they had entering the season of maternity and have 12 months (i.e. same number of tournaments) to compete at that status.

In addition to the LPGA’s updated maternity policy, all five majors on the LPGA schedule now have maternity clauses that exempt a player into the championship who qualified for the previous year but did not compete due to maternity.

Earlier this season, Paula Creamer and Azahara Munoz returned to the LPGA after giving birth in 2022. Brittany Lincicome returned to action at the Pelican Women’s Championship after welcoming her second child.

Caroline Masson and Hee Young Park are expecting their first children in 2023.

Cheyenne Woods and Yankees center fielder Aaron Hicks are expecting a baby boy

“Surprise! 2022 is about to be a great year.”

Cheyenne Woods announced on Instagram that she and Aaron Hicks are expecting a baby boy. Woods, a longtime tour professional and niece of Tiger Woods, got engaged to Hicks, a center fielder for the New York Yankees, last October.

“Surprise!” Woods wrote on Instagram. “2022 is about to be a great year.”

The couple told Golfweek that they first met when Woods interviewed Hicks for her podcast, “Birdies Not BS,” in early 2020 and began dating later that spring.

The 31-year-old Wake Forest grad won the 2014 Volvik RACV Ladies Masters on the Ladies European Tour and played a hybrid schedule of LPGA and Symetra Tour events in 2021, along with varying roles as an analyst and on-course television reporter.

When Hicks, 32, competed in the celebrity portion of the LPGA’s 2021 Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions, Woods caddied for him. Just a few days prior, Hicks had caddied for Woods at a Cactus Tour event that she won by 16 shots.

Hicks, who grew up playing golf from ages 5 to 13 until switching to baseball, credited Woods for vastly improving his short game.

“We just play a lot when we’re home (in Arizona),” said Woods, “and we take everybody’s money.”

Rickie Fowler and wife Allison expecting baby in November

The former top-10 player has seen improvements in his game, and he and wife Allison announced life is even better with a baby on the way.

Rickie Fowler has seen an uptick in his golf game with three top-20 finishes on the PGA Tour in recent events, including finishing tied for eighth at the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

He announced Monday on Instagram that life is getting better off the course, as well. Fowler and his wife, Allison, are expecting a baby girl to be born in November. Fowler married Allison Stokke, a former track and field athlete, in October of 2019.

The 32-year-old Fowler made the announcement with the line “Reservation for November … Fowler party of three” with the hashtag #girldad.

After being in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking for years, Fowler has dropped as far as No. 122 earlier this year. But private matches with Michael Jordan have boosted his game, Fowler said recently, and his play has improved. He is back to No. 91 with his sights on continued improvement.

Congrats to the expecting couple.

Russell Wilson announces birth of son

There is a new addition to the Wilson family

July 23rd, 2020 is now a special day for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his young family.

On Friday morning, Russell Wilson announced on his Twitter the birth of his son, Win Harrison Wilson, had happened the day prior. Wilson shared a photograph of himself, his wife Ciara, and their newborn child.

Wilson announced in January he and his wife were pregnant with another child to their family, and revealed in April the gender would be a boy.

Win Harrison Wilson is now the third child in the Wilson family.. Joining older brother Future Zahir, Ciara’s son with rapper Future, and older sister Sienna Wilson, who was born in 2017.

Of course, this is all in spite of Sienna’s best efforts to thwart having a younger sibling.

While 2020 has been a difficult year for many people, for the Wilson family there is now legitimate joy to be had. We at SeahawksWire wish Win a happy belated first birthday, as well as rest for his parents in the days to come.

Remember this? Nancy Lopez won while pregnant — for the second time

Nancy Lopez won the Sara Lee Classic for her 44th of 46 LPGA titles. She did so while five months pregnant with her third child.

(Editor’s note: This is part of our Remember This series, looking back at memorable moments in golf history.)

By the time the Sara Lee Classic rolled around in 1991, Nancy Lopez had seen just about everything the golf world could throw at her.

She already had 43 LPGA Tour victories under her belt, including three majors. She already two children with her then-husband and former Major League Baseball star Ray Knight.

She’d been the LPGA player of the year four times and she’d already been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

But winning a golf tournament while pregnant? Wouldn’t that be a first? Well, no —yet it’s still a pretty amazing feat.

Lopez marched out to a substantial lead in the 1991 event at Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, Tennessee, tying the course record with a scintillating seven-under 65 in Friday’s first-round action

Pro golfer Nancy Lopez gets a hug from her 20-month-old daughter, Ashley Marie, after winning the LPGA Mazda Hall of Fame Championship at Sweetwater Country Club in Sugarland, Texas, on July 7, 1985. Lopez won by three strokes, finishing 7-under-par 281 for the 72 hole event.

In the final round on Sunday, however, she started to fade. It’s not surprising, especially when you consider she was more than five months pregnant with her third child.

Kris Monaghan took the lead on Sunday when she birdied No. 7, and then extended her lead to three strokes with eight holes to play.

That’s when Lopez’s experience took hold.

Lopez matched par on the back nine until reaching the par-four 15th, where she rolled in a 30-foot putt. She added a 10-foot putt on No. 16 and on this day — May 5, 1991 — Lopez captured the Sara Lee Classic for her 44th of what would be 46 LPGA titles, taking home a $63,750 winner’s check.

“I know myself,” Lopez told the Associated Press. “I’m convinced that if I play my own game, I can win. I felt if I let myself get involved in what everybody else is doing, I’ll fail.”

Later that year, she gave birth to her third daughter, Torri Heather.

Incredibly, it’s not the only time she pulled off a tournament win while pregnant. She was two months pregnant with first child Ashley in 1983 when she won the J&B Scotch Pro-Am. Second daughter Erinn was born in 1986, but as soon as Lopez recuperated, she played in four tournaments at the end of that year and finished in the top 5 in three of those.
