Predators at Lightning: Projected starting goalies

Juuse Saros (3-2-0, .918 SV%, 2.54 GAA) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (4-1-1, .925 SV%, 2.15 GAA)

Saros is expected to return to the crease Monday after veteran Pekka Rinne drew a somewhat surprising start in the first meeting. Saros last played Wednesday, when he stopped 29 of 30 shots in a win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Vasilevskiy snapped a rare two-game losing skid (with one of those going to overtime) with Saturday’s win. He stopped 23 of 26 shots and 2 of the goals allowed were on the power play.

Predators at Lightning: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Predators 2, Lightning 1

Money line (ML)

There’s value on the PREDATORS (+150) as they pivot back to their No. 1 netminder. Vasilevskiy is never outmatched in net, but Saros can rival him on his best nights and is plenty rested.

Tampa Bay registered 58.33% of the total shots attempts, including blocked and missed shots, at 5-on-5 Saturday, but Nashville had 54.55% of the scoring chances at full strength. Should the play up front remain the same, look for Saros to prove to be the difference and help flip the script.

Against the spread (ATS)

PREDATORS +1.5 (-190) are also a fine play with 1 goal of insurance in the event of a loss. The Lightning haven’t beaten anyone by 2 or more goals since their first two games of the season. The Predators have played four straight 1-goal games and are 2-2 in those outings.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 6 (-120) is the best play for this game following Saturday’s 7-goal outburst. Nashville is 3-4 against the O/U and Tampa Bay is 3-3 following Saturday’s easy Over on a line of 5.5.

Both teams scored twice on the power play Saturday with the Preds going 2-for-5 and the Bolts going 2-for-7 with the man advantage. Discipline will have been preached by both head coaches on the off-day and each of these goalies is much tougher to beat at full strength.

Nashville Predators at Tampa Bay Lightning odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Nashville Predators at Tampa Bay Lightning NHL betting odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Nashville Predators (4-3-0) play the first half of two games in three days against the Tampa Bay Lightning (3-1-1) at Amalie Arena Saturday. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Predators-Lightning NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

  • Money line: Predators +140 (bet $100 to win $140) | Lightning -165 (bet $165 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Predators +1.5 (-190) | Lightning -1.5 (+155)

Predators at Lightning: Projected starting goalies

Juuse Saros (3-2-0, .918 SV%, 2.54 GAA) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (3-1-1, .932 SV%, 1.98 GAA)

After starting the season with back-to-back victories over the Columbus Blue Jackets in which he stopped 71 of 74 total shots, Saros dropped back-to-back road games against the Dallas Stars. He returned home to hold the Chicago Blackhawks to 1 goal on 30 shots his last time out.

Vasilevskiy is once again an early Vezina Trophy favorite. He has allowed more than 2 goals in just one of his five starts, but he has faced more than 27 shots just twice, as he’s well-protected behind the defending Stanley Cup champs.

Predators at Lightning: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Predators 3, Lightning 2

Money line (ML)

There’s value on the PREDATORS (+140) in hopes of the road upset. They’re ninth in the NHL with a 5-on-5 Corsi For percentage of 52.74, while the Lightning are 12th at 52.36%. Tampa Bay still has an edge in scoring chances and expected goals at 5-on-5, but look for Saros to stand up to the test in high-difficulty situations.

Nashville is just 2-for-28 on the power play (29th) with a power-play success rate of 7.14%. The Preds are also last in penalty-kill percentage, but they serve just 7.4 minutes in penalties per game. They’ve been playing well at full strength, and some special teams correction is on the way in Nashville.

Against the spread (ATS)

We can add PREDATORS +1.5 (-190) as a lesser, secondary play. After outscoring the lowly Chicago Blackhawks 10-3 in their first two games of the season, the Bolts have two losses and an overtime win in their last three games. Nashville went to extra time in each of its last two games against Chicago and can keep this close, barring penalty trouble.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 6 (-120) in a battle of top netminders. The teams are a combined 4-7 against the Over/Under and both sides play to an average of 5.20 or fewer total goals per game.
