Nashville Predators at Carolina Hurricanes odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Nashville Predators at Carolina Hurricanes odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Nashville Predators (28-17-4) travel to meet the Carolina Hurricanes (32-11-4) Friday at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Predators vs. Hurricanes odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Predators limp in on a three-game losing skid, including a 4-1 home beatdown at the hands of the Washington Capitals last time out Tuesday. Nashville has lost four of its last five versus Eastern Conference clubs (1-2-2).

The Hurricanes were dropped 3-2 in overtime by the Florida Panthers Wednesday in a very entertaining game. Carolina blew a 2-1 lead late with an extra attacker on for Florida and then allowed a quick goal in OT. Carolina has won five of its last six against Western Conference teams.

Predators at Hurricanes projected goalies

Juuse Saros (24-14-3, 2.45 GAA, .924 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Frederik Andersen (25-7-2, 2.07 GAA, .928 SV%, 2 SO)

Saros has been on the short end of three starts since the All-Star break, allowing 11 total goals on 96 shots. He has yielded at least 3 goals in each of the outings. The Finnish netminder allowed 2 goals on 31 shots in a 3-2 loss in Nashville against Carolina Oct. 16.

Andersen has failed to record a win in each of the past two outings, just the second time this season he has lost two or more consecutive starts. In the previous occurrence, he had a three-game losing skid from Nov. 24-30. The Great Dane was the goalie of record in Nashville Oct. 16, posting 38 saves on 40 shots in a win.

Predators at Hurricanes odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 3, Predators 1

Money line

The Hurricanes (-175) are just a little too pricey, even on home ice, as they’re just 1-2-2 across their last five outings.

AVOID, and look to the puck line instead.

Against the spread

The HURRICANES -1.5 (+145) are a better value on the puck line as they try to rebound from a disappointing 3-2 OT loss against Florida Wednesday.

Carolina hasn’t been ticking off wins on the regular of late, but neither has Nashville. The Preds have dropped four in a row against winning teams, and are just 3-13 in the previous 16 skates in Raleigh. The home team is 11-2 in the past 13 meetings, too.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (+110) is the lean here, even though Saros and the Predators have been getting knocked around pretty good of late. The Hurricanes have had some issues putting the puck in the back of the net lately, going for 3 or fewer goals in seven of their last eight outings.

The Under is also 6-1-1 in the previous eight meetings in North Carolina.

Nashville Predators at Carolina Hurricanes Game 5 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Nashville Predators at Carolina Hurricanes Game 5 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Nashville Predators and Carolina Hurricanes play Game 5 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs first-round series Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at PNC Arena. Below, we analyze the Predators-Hurricanes Game 5 odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Predators won a pair of double-overtime games in Nashville over the weekend to scratch and claw their way back to tie the series 2-2. They lost the first two games in Raleigh by a combined score of 8-2.

The Hurricanes were outscored 9-7 in Nashville in the pair of double-overtime losses, and what went from a 2-0 series lead has turned into a best-of-three. The Hurricanes still get two of those games in front of their raucous home crowd at PNC Arena, but the margin of error is gone.

Predators at Hurricanes: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Predators +155 (bet $100 to win $155) | Hurricanes -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Predators +1.5 (-170) | Hurricanes -1.5 (+140)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +110 | U: -135)

Predators at Hurricanes: Projected starting goalies

Juuse Saros (21-11-1, 2.28 GAA, .927 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Alex Nedeljkovic (15-5-3, 1.90 GAA, .932 SV%, 3 SO)

Saros was dinged for 4 goals in Game 1 but allowed just 2 goals in a 3-0 loss in Game 2 in Raleigh. He can play in front of this loud crowd, and use the energy in a positive way. He also has the past two wins, both in double-overtime, to spur him on.

Nedeljkovic lost both Games 3 and 4 in double-overtime, allowing 7 total goals in Nashville. While that’s not exactly standing on your head, he did make some miraculous saves, too, and there is no reason to change course at this juncture.

Predators at Hurricanes: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hurricanes 3, Predators 2

Money line (ML)

The HURRICANES (-190) are heavy favorites on home ice. It’s a little over my personal limit of -180 on money line plays; however, I strongly believe they’ll feed off the intense energy in their return to Raleigh in Game 5 and grab back the series lead in front of their home crowd after a couple of near-misses in Music City.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The PREDATORS +1.5 (-170) are worth playing at this price based upon the past two games. Saros was up to the task in the past two games, and the offense has found ways to solve Nedeljkovic.

Even if the Preds lose, which I expect, I am looking for another one-goal game.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (-135) is the play after a couple of high-scoring affairs in Smashville. The young Hurricanes have plenty of postseason experience to tap into from the past two years, but they will still have some nerves.

They’ll be hesitant to take chances which could lead to odd-man rushes the other way. The Predators will have more difficulty finding the back of the net than they did on home ice over the weekend.

Nashville Predators at Carolina Hurricanes Game 2 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Nashville Predators at Carolina Hurricanes Game 2 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Nashville Predators and Carolina Hurricanes play Game 2 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs first-round series Wednesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at PNC Arena. Below, we analyze the Predators-Hurricanes odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Predators hung tough with the Hurricanes, as they were tied 1-1 after 20 minutes, and 2-2 after 40 minutes. However, Nashville allowed three goals in the final period, and they were unable to keep up offensively.

The Hurricanes won all four regular-season meetings, and Game 1, on PNC Arena ice. Raleigh, N.C., was jumping with 12,000 fans allowed due to Governor Roy Cooper’s new relaxed indoor gathering restrictions.

Predators at Hurricanes: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:35 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Predators +150 (bet $100 to win $150) | Hurricanes -185 (bet $185 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Predators +1.5 (-175) | Hurricanes -1.5 (+150)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +115 | U: -135)

Predators at Hurricanes: Projected starting goalies

Juuse Saros (21-11-1, 2.28 GAA, .927 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Alex Nedeljkovic (15-5-3, 1.90 GAA, .932 SV%, 3 SO)

Saros allowed four goals on 37 shots in Game 1. He did a good job in the first two periods, as he had his team tied up 2-2 heading to the third. He allowed goals to Nino Niederreiter and Jordan Staal, and his offense did not respond.

Nedeljkovic earned the start for Game 1, and he had some issues with rebound control in the first two periods. However, the rookie might have also had some first-playoff game jitters, especially playing in front of the largest crowd of the season. He settled down, and had a scoreless third period.

Predators at Hurricanes: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hurricanes 3, Predators 2

Money line (ML)

The HURRICANES (-185) are a little on the expensive side, and generally my personal limit for money line plays is -180. But Carolina has been money at home, and they have won seven of nine meetings with Nashville this season.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The PREDATORS +1.5 (-175) are moderately priced on the puck line, but they should be able to keep it fairly close in a much tighter Game 2. Sometimes you have to base your picks on fact, and other times on your gut feeling. I think Game 2 is going to be a hotly contested game, perhaps even decided in overtime.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (-135) is the play after an Over result in Game 1. The Hurricanes posted five goals, including one empty-net goal to comfortably cash the Over. This one should have more tight checking, hitting and less scoring.

Nashville Predators at Carolina Hurricanes Game 1 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Nashville Predators at Carolina Hurricanes Game 1 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Nashville Predators and Carolina Hurricanes play Game 1 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs first-round series Monday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at PNC Arena. Below, we analyze the Predators-Hurricanes odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Predators picked up a pair of victories to close out the regular season against the Hurricanes, and they’ll try to use that as a springboard into this series despite some rather long odds.

The Hurricanes won the first six regular-season meetings against the Predators, including all four meetings at PNC Arena. Overall, Carolina posted a 20-3-5 record in Raleigh, N.C., in the regular season.

Predators at Hurricanes: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:19 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Predators +155 (bet $100 to win $155) | Hurricanes -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Predators +1.5 (-165) | Hurricanes -1.5 (+140)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +120 | U: -145)

Predators at Hurricanes: Projected starting goalies

Juuse Saros (21-11-1, 2.28 GAA, .927 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Petr Mrazek (6-2-3, 2.06 GAA, .923 SV%, 3 SO)

Saros allowed just one goal on 22 shots in his final regular-season start and win against the Hurricanes May 8. He was 1-2-0 with a 2.73 GAA and .917 SV% in three starts and four appearances vs. Carolina this season.

Mrazek had mixed results in his two starts against the Predators this season. He allowed just one goal on 20 shots in a win in Raleigh April 15, and he was blasted for five goals on 27 shots in a 5-0 loss at Nashville May 10.

Predators at Hurricanes: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hurricanes 3, Predators 2

Money line (ML)

The HURRICANES (-190) are slightly above my personal money line limit of -180, but sometimes you have to break your own rules.

Carolina won six of the eight regular-season meetings, including each of the four at PNC Arena. The Hurricanes outscored the Predators 15-5 in the four games in Raleigh, including 12-3 across the past three battles.

The Hurricanes will also be spurred on by at least 10,000 spectators at PNC as North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper relaxed COVID-19 indoor congregation restrictions in the past few days, just in time for the playoffs.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The PREDATORS +1.5 (-165) is worth a roll of the dice, catching a goal and a half on the road. Yes, they have struggled in four trips to Raleigh during the regular season, but they have to be confident following their two-game sweep in Nashville to close out the regular season. They should be able to keep it close in a lower-scoring game.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (-145) is an attractive play as Saros and Mrazek should put on a show. The Under was 5-1-2 in the eight regular-season head-to-head meetings, including 3-0-1 in the four games in Raleigh. Look for more of the same in the series opener.

The Nashville Predators (11-14-1) wrap up a two-game road set against the Carolina Hurricanes (18-6-1) Thursday with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at PNC Arena. Below, we analyze the Predators-Hurricanes odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Predators +1.5 (-145) | Hurricanes -1.5 (+120)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Predators at Hurricanes: Projected starting goalies

Pekka Rinne (6-9-1, 2.92 GAA, .903 SV%, 1 SO) vs. James Reimer (11-3-0, 2.83 GAA, .903 SV%)

Rinne was on the short end of a 3-2 overtime loss in the front end of the two-game set. He allowed 3 goals on 35 shots, and he has coughed up 3 or more goals in four straight starts. The 38-year-old veteran is 0-2-1 with a 2.57 GAA and .907 SV% in three appearances against the Hurricanes this season.

Reimer was an onlooker as Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 21 of 23 shots in Tuesday’s OT win. The veteran will get a chance against the visitors despite Nedeljkovic’s three-start win streak. “Optimus Reim” has posted a 2-0-0 record, 2.00 GAA and .944 SV% in his two starts against the Predators this season.

Predators at Hurricanes: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hurricanes 3, Predators 2

Money line (ML)

The Hurricanes (-250) have had their way against the Predators in recent years, going 10-1 across the past 11 meetings, including 4-1 in the past five in Raleigh, but you cannot risk two and a half times your potential return despite that dominance.

It’s just not a winning long-term wagering strategy. PASS.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The PREDATORS +1.5 (-145) are worth a look in the second end of this set. While Carolina enters on a six-game win streak, three of those victories were by one goal, including Monday’s battle.

When Carolina has been a favorite of -167 or higher, it has covered the puck line just twice in six tries.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (+100) is even money and a good bet. Nashville has had trouble putting the puck in the net, and the Under is 5-3-2 in the past 10 games for Carolina.

The Nashville Predators (11-14-0) play the first of a two-game set on the road against the Carolina Hurricanes (17-6-1) Tuesday for a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at PNC Arena. Below, we analyze the Predators-Hurricanes odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Predators at Hurricanes: Odds, spread and lines

  • Money line: Predators +170 (bet $100 to win $170) | Hurricanes -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Predators +1.5 (-160) | Hurricanes -1.5 (+135)

Predators at Hurricanes: Projected starting goalies

Pekka Rinne (6-9-0, 2.93 GAA, .902 SV%, 1 SO) vs. James Reimer (11-3-0, 2.83 GAA, .903 SV%)

The 38-year-old Rinne is doing the heavy lifting with G Juuse Saros on the injured reserve list due to an upper-body injury. Rinne has started the past four games, winning Sunday in Dallas in a 4-3 shootout, while losing the previous three. He is 0-2-0 in his two starts against the Hurricanes this season, but he has a solid 2.43 GAA and .900 SV%.

Reimer has won three straight starts, including a 4-2 win in Nashville March 2. He made 36 saves in that appearance, and he is 2-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .944 SV% in his two outings against the Preds to date. He is also 5-1-0 with a 2.50 GAA and .908 SV% in his six appearances at PNC Arena this season.

Predators at Hurricanes: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hurricanes 4, Predators 2

Money line (ML)

The Hurricanes (-200) will cost you two times your potential return, and that’s a little past my personal limit of -180 for money line wagers. Look to the puck line instead. PASS.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The HURRICANES -1.5 (+135) are a much better play on the puck line. The Preds limp into this one 0-6 in the past six against teams with a winning record, and they’re 4-9 in the previous 13 on the road. Carolina has also dominated this series in the recent past, winning nine of the past 10 meetings, including six of the past eight in Raleigh, N.C. The ‘Canes enter on a five-game win streak, and they have covered the puck line in three straight.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-120) is 3-1-1 during the five-game win streak for the Hurricanes, including an Over result March 2 in the Music City when the two teams last tangled. The Over is also 7-1 across Rinne’s past eight starts, including 4-0 in his four outings subbing for the injured Saros.
