The Pokemon GO spring event is just around the corner, bringing two new Bug types and a costume for Eevee and Pikachu to the mobile game

The Pokemon GO spring event is just around the corner, bringing two new Bug types and a special costume for Eevee and Pikachu to the mobile game. The Spring into Spring event starts April 4, 2023, at 10 a.m. local time and runs through April 10 at 8 p.m. local time.

The Bug/Fairy types Cutiefly and Ribombee will appear once the event starts and remain in the game after it ends.

While the event runs, you may encounter members of the Pikachu and Eevee families wearing a special cherry blossom outfit. These Pokemon may even be Shiny, and if you end up with a Shiny Pikachu or Eevee in the cherry blossom costume, they retain their shininess and costume if you evolve them.

These Pokemon will appear more often:

  • Pikachu (cherry blossom)
  • Eevee (cherry blossom)
  • Buneary (flower crown)
  • Jigglypuff
  • Marill
  • Whismur
  • Bunnelby
  • Cutiefly

Flower crown Togetic and Chansey have a chance of showing up too, and all except Cutiefly have a chance of being Shiny.

On the raid side, you might run into flower crown Togetic and Chansey in 3-star raids. Expect Lugia to show up in 5-star raids and Mega Lopunny on Mega Raids.

Finally, you have a higher chance of hatching these critters from 2k Eggs.

  • Togepi (flower crown)
  • Pichu (cherry blossom)
  • Eevee (cherry blossom)
  • Happiny (flower crown)
  • Munchlax
  • Riolu
  • Cutiefly
  • Azurill

If you’re keen on new avatar items, you can pick up some springy, Happiny-themed pieces of clothing in the in-game store too.

5 Pokémon based on disturbing ghost stories

Inspiration for Pokémon can come from te strangest places. These Pokémon are based on wild Japanese ghost stories.

It’s no secret these days that the world of Pokémon can be a lot more horrifying than Nintendo would like you to believe. Whether it’s Driftloons kidnapping children or Ninetails cursing the descendants of their foes, Pokémon can be pretty terrifying when they want to be. As such, it should be no surprise that many Pokémon were based on old ghost stories from all over the world – but mostly Japan.

We’ve picked out some of the strangest and most disturbing stories that Game Freak turned into a beloved monster. If you’re looking for more Pokémon origin stories, then check out our recent rundown of Pokémon you didn’t know were based on real animals.

5 Pokemon you didn’t know were based on real animals

With over 1,000 Pokémon, the designers have had to dive deep into the fauna of our world for inspiration.

In a world containing over 1000 fictional creatures, there’s no way that designers could avoid using real animals as their inspiration. Some are very obvious to spot – Growlithe is a dog, Vulpix is a fox, Mr. Mime is a demon, and so on. However, some of the weird and wild creatures of this world are so out there that you may think they have to be entirely original creations, but not so.

There’s a handful of Pokémon that pull from such obscure or strange creatures that you may not have ever realized they had roots in reality. We’ve got five such Pokémon and the animals they’re based on.

If you’re looking for some of the best Pokémon out there, then check out our lists of the best Dark Pokémon, and the best Fairy Pokémon.

The worst video game characters of all time

Grand stories and clever heroes may linger in our minds after the credits roll, but the worst video game characters leave their own mark too

Grand stories and clever, sympathetic heroes may linger in our minds long after the credits roll, but the worst video game characters leave a mark just as indelible. They may be poorly written, with thin personalities, unbelievable motivations, or dialogue that grates on your soul. Some are just terrible people in general, characters who, though not the villain or even a threat, certainly do their best to make life more difficult than it needs to be for the heroes of the piece. These are the worst characters we won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

‘Okidogi’ is the new buff dog Pokemon that fans are going wild over

Scarlet & Violet’s latest good boy definitely pumps iron.

They say dogs are man’s best friend, even those that dump a scoop of creatine into their food bowls every morning. Ok – maybe we’re twisting that old phrase a bit, but it’s hard not to when Okidogi, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet‘s new hench good boy, is already a fan-favorite.

On Monday, the latest Pokémon Presents broadcast gave us a look into what’s coming for the franchise. New raids for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet are already available, but what really got fans going was The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC announcement – specifically Okidogi. What’s an Okidogi, you ask? Why it’s the biggest, most swole dog you’ve ever seen. Seriously, those trap muscles would make Brock Lesner seethe with envy.

As is often the case with new Pokémon reveals, fans are going bananas over Okidogi. We’ve gathered the best reactions below for your pleasure.

Ex-NFL LB Blake Martinez is making so much money off selling rare Pokémon cards after retirement

Blake Martinez is trying to “catch ’em all” with his business.

Former Green Bay Packers and New York Giants linebacker Blake Martinez has caught on to a lucrative new way of doing business.

After retiring from the NFL last year following a brief stint with the Las Vegas Raiders, Martinez now sells Pokémon cards and has reportedly made more than $5 million in the last seven months, per CNBC.

The former linebacker launched a company, Blake’s Breaks, and has watched a childhood of collecting the popular trading cards turn into a successful career for his post-playing days.

“I think there’s more to my success than [my name],” Martinez [told] CNBC Make It. “I used to be like the quarterback of the defense, I was calling plays. When I started this business, it felt like running a team again.”

Martinez said he hopes he can continue to expand his new business into additional collectables and more logistical aims like new warehouses.

For now, it seems like the former Packers draft pick appreciates a hard day’s work opening packages of Pokémon cards as opposed to one earned on the gridiron.

“Every single day when I wake up, my shoulder doesn’t hurt and my back doesn’t hurt anymore,” Martinez [told CNBC]. “When all that hurts are my fingers from opening, like, 1,000 packs of cards per day, I think, ‘I’m going to keep doing this.’”

The Pokemon anime will still have Pikachu in a starring role – sort of

The Pokemon Company isn’t ditching Pikachu in the Pokemon anime after all, though it’s not Ash’s favorite friend this time

The Pokemon Company isn’t ditching Pikachu in the Pokemon anime after all, though it’s not Ash’s favorite friend this time. The internet collectively mourned the passing of an age when the Pokemon anime finally brought Ash’s journey to a close, but a new Pikachu is set to take center stage – Captain Pikachu, that is.

The Pokemon Company revealed Captain Pikachu’s existence on Twitter and their companion ane new protagonist, Friede. Friede is a young adult with white hair and captain’s goggles (naturally), and, in another tie-in with Ash, he wears a bomber jacket with a Charizard motif. Whether he’s just a fan or also travels with a Charizard isn’t certain, as The Pokemon Company didn’t reveal any more information about the new hero.

Fan reactions were mixed between pleasure at seeing Pikachu return, and with a hat no less, and a few who wanted a different Pokemon to take center stage. Other fans pointed out that’s not likely to happen. Pikachu is the face of the franchise, they said, and it makes sense to keep them around.

The Pokemon Company’s tease comes just days before a new Pokemon Direct, set for Feb. 27, 2023, where plans for the franchise’s next 12 months should be more clear. While it seems evident a new Pokemon anime announcement is almost guaranteed, there’s little indication what else might be in store. Rumors point to anything from Scarlet and Violet DLC to a new Detective Pikachu, or perhaps even another Pokemon Mystery Dungeon remake.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes reveals Pokemon-inspired play from Super Bowl LVII

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes revealed that a play meant to target RT Andrew Wylie in Super Bowl LVII was inspired by his love for Pokemon. | from @EdEastonJr

The list of unique plays and formations in the Kansas City Chiefs playbook is endless. Super Bowl LVII wasn’t treated any differently as a formation created with respect to offensive lineman Andrew Wylie’s love for Pokemon was given an official name.

Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes appeared on the ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ show after spending most of Monday at Disneyland. On the show, he discussed multiple topics, including the planned play meant for Wylie in the red zone. The “Ring Around The Rosy” beginning of the formation had everyone’s attention as Mahomes explained its origin.

“We worked on that play for so long,” said Mahomes. “We try to disguise it with all that different stuff happening before the snap. And then I saw #22 (Marcus Epps) point directly at the guy I was going to throw it to; I was like, I don’t know if I like my lineman matched up with a DB. The worst.”

Kimmel and the studio audience erupted with laughter as Mahomes went on to break down the thought process behind the play’s unique name.

“So Wylie, who was the guy we were trying to get the ball to, is a big Pokemon collector,” said Mahomes. “And so it was called ‘Pikachu Formation, Gotta Catch ‘Em All.’”

Mahomes, along with the coaching of Andy Reid and Eric Bienemy, are always coming up with creative plays. This surely won’t be the last fun play nickname to come out of practice.

Patrick Mahomes revealed that the Chiefs paid homage to Pokémon on Super Bowl trick play

Patrick Mahomes wants to be the best that there ever was.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes revealed fascinating insight into a trick play that the team used during Super Bowl 57.

The moment in question came while the Chiefs were in the red zone, trying to score a touchdown on the Philadelphia Eagles. The team did its signature ring-around-the-rosie huddle before attempting to get the ball to offensive tackle Andrew Wylie for the trick touchdown. The play was unsuccessful, but the driving force behind the play is just fantastic.

While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Mahomes shared that the play was named after the popular Nintendo video game series Pokémon.

This is pretty awesome for the Chiefs to do for Wylie, who Mahomes said is a major Pokémon collector.

Most NFL teams might not be cool enough to give homage to the great Pikachu, but those teams aren’t winning Super Bowls. Kudos to Andy Reid for continuing to be one of the most creative play callers in the NFL.

Professor Oak would be proud!
