Ravens mascot Poe recognized as honorary Ed Block Courage Award winner

Poe, the Baltimore Ravens mascot, was recognized as an honorary Ed Block Awardee

Poe, the Baltimore Ravens mascot, has been recognized as an honorary Ed Block Courage Award winner for the 2022 season. Poe suffered a torn ACL in a youth football game during halftime of the Ravens’ final preseason contest. The mascot had to be carted off the field, with some not believing it was real at first.

While Poe was out, the Ravens called upon their former mascots Edgar and Allan — who had been retired in 2008 — to take over for him while he recovered. In Week 17, Poe made his miraculous return as the one and only mascot of the Ravens.

Congratulations to Poe for a unique achievement in mascot history.

Ravens announce familiar replacements for injured mascot Poe

The Baltimore Ravens on Friday announced two replacements for mascot Poe, who suffered a “serious injury to his drumstick.”

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Washington Commanders to end the 2022 preseason in August, extending their preseason winning streak to 23 games. During halftime, the team’s mascot Poe suffered a “serious injury to his drumstick” during a mascot vs. youth football game that would force him to miss the 2022 season.

Baltimore’s search for Poe’s replacement ended on Friday, when the team announced that two familiar faces would take over for the mascot. The Ravens social media accounts posted a video that showed Edgar and Allan signing a one-year deal to be the team’s 2022 mascots. Executive Vice President and General Manager Eric DeCosta offered the contract to the duo after they spent 14 years in retirement.

“The big thing that I want you guys {Edgar and Allan} to understand is this is a major commitment on our part as an organization. This position is really important, obviously, and we’ve determined that you two guys are really the two best guys for this position.”

DeCosta said the deal would be worth a year’s worth of bird seed, along with nest expenses. Edgar and Allan will be introduced before Sunday’s home opener against the Miami Dolphins, according to the Ravens website.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh provides devastating injury update on mascot Poe

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh provided an injury update on the team’s mascot Poe

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Washington Commanders on Saturday night, extending their preseason winning streak to 23 games. The team saw players leave the game with injuries, which is not uncommon during preseason. However, one of the injuries that occurred wasn’t to a player, but to the team’s mascot, Poe.

During halftime, Poe was injured during a mascot vs. youth football game in which mascots competed against the youth football players. Poe was tackled  and stayed down on the turf, causing trainers to come out and check on him. He was then carted off of the field, leaving many to speculate the worst.

On Thursday, an update was given on Poe both by Adam Schefter of ESPN as well as Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh. Schefter revealed that Poe suffered a “season-ending injury”, while Harbaugh told reporters that Poe would be placed on injured reserve due to a “serious injury to his drumstick.” Harbaugh also added that Poe would miss the 2022 season.

Many were waiting for an update on Poe’s condition, although the news wasn’t positive like people were hoping. His injury made national waves when it occurred, and after the news was announced there was a flood of well wishes for the mascot.

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Washington Commanders by the final score of 17-15 on Saturday night, extending their preseason winning streak to 23 games. The team saw a few of their players leave the game with injuries, but that’s not the only part of the organization that didn’t come out unscathed.

During halftime, Baltimore’s mascot Poe got injured during a mascot vs. youth football game. He had to be carted off of the field, and many have awaited updates the mascot’s status. On Sunday, the team posted a photo of Poe with an ice pack on his knee, saying they’ll continue to share updates on the situation.

While it’s unclear what the actual injury Poe suffered was, the mascot had to be carted off of the field after being tackled during the halftime game. Hopefully the ailment isn’t serious and he’ll be able to return to action in no time.

Poe did return in the second half of the game, sparking speculation that a new person was behind the costume.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh weighed in on the injury to the team’s mascot, Poe

The Baltimore Ravens picked up a 17-15 win over the Washington Commanders in Week 3 of the 2022 preseason, extending their exhibition winning streak to 23-straight games. Baltimore unfortunately had a couple of injuries throughout the contest, including one to their mascot, Poe.

The mascot was injured at halftime during a mascot vs. youth football game and had to be carted off of the field. Harbaugh was asked about the events that transpired at halftime after the game, and said that there were no updates, but made sure to say that there might be an MRI on Sunday in the aftermath of the injury.

The mascot was tended to by trainers, and later Poe returned to the field, presumably with a different person in the costume. It’s unclear how serious the injury is, and it’s possible an update is released when information becomes available.

They were playing their final preseason game on Saturday against the Washington Commanders and wound up losing a key contributor to their game-day activities.

Incredibly, Poe, the Ravens’ mascot suffered an apparent torn ACL during a halftime game. Poe was carted off the field for treatment.

No word on what the team will do if Poe has to go on IR. The Ravens may just have to wing it.

The Baltimore Ravens held their final game of the 2022 preseason against the Washington Commanders in Week 3. The team is trying to move past an injury-riddled 2021 season where many of their players were forced out of action with previous ailments. However, the injury bug hit a different part of the team on Saturday night.

During halftime, Baltimore’s mascot, Poe, suffered what appears to be a leg injury and had to be carted off of the field. The mascot appeared to get hurt while getting tackled during a mascot vs. youth game, and was immediately tended to by trainers.

It’s unclear the severity of the injury, but another mascot was spotted shortly after, with speculation of who was behind the costume.
