PODCAST: Terry McDonough ruling, Cardinals draft needs

Jess Root and Seth Cox have another edition of the podcast.

We have a new edition of the podcast with me and cohost Seth Cox. There isn’t much new when it comes to football, but we did discuss the recent arbitration ruling involving the Arizona Cardinals and how they must pay Terry McDonough $3 million for defamation.

We also delve into the 2024 NFL draft, going over what the Cardinals’ draft needs are — critical, primary and secondary.

Enjoy!

PODCAST: Proposed mock draft trades for the Cardinals

This edition of the podcast discusses some mock draft trade proposals with the Arizona Cardinals.

There hasn’t been any actual news with the Arizona Cardinals but there certainly has been speculation about them in the 2024 NFL draft. They are the center of many trade rumors for the No. 4 pick in the draft.

In this edition of the show, cohost Seth Cox and I discuss Mike Tannanbaum’s mock draft for ESPN that has the Cardinals drafting J.J. McCarthy and trading Kyler Murray. As you can imagine, we don’t like it.

We also discuss a proposed mock draft trade with the Denver Broncos, in addition to a three-team trade idea.

PODCAST: What did Jonathan Gannon, Monti Ossenfort have to say about Cardinals’ offseason

Jess Root and Seth Cox talk about the Cardinals’ offseason and the NFL rule proposals coming up in the latest edition of the podcast.

We have a new edition of the podcast available for you to listen to. We like to say it is the best hour of Arizona Cardinals talk on the Web. Cohost Seth Cox and I react to what Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon and general manager Monti Ossenfort said at their first press conference since the start of free agency. Specifically, we delve into the notion of being “open for business” for draft trades, D.J. Humphries’ release, refusing to project plans for players and more.

We also go over all the league-proposed and team-proposed changes to rules and bylaws that will be discussed at the NFL’s annual league meeting next week and what we think of them (we’re fans of the new proposed kickoff rules).

Broncos Wire podcast: What’s the plan at quarterback?

What is Denver’s quarterback plan in 2024? Ryan O’Leary and Jon Heath discussed that and much more on the latest Broncos Wire podcast.

What a whirlwind of an offseason it’s been for the Denver Broncos!

To catch up on all the latest news and rumors since our last episode, I joined Broncos Wire host Ryan O’Leary on this week’s podcast. We discussed — among many other topics — Russell Wilson’s release and what comes next at quarterback for Denver.

You can listen to episode No. 106 below:

Follow the Broncos Wire Podcast:
Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts

You can view our notes from this week’s episode below.

Russell Wilson era officially ends
  • The Broncos cut Wilson and he signed a one-year, league-minimum deal with the Steelers that leaves Denver on the hook to pay his remaining $37.79 million salary in 2024. Broncos will eat $53 million this season.
  • Wilson is expected to start for Pittsburgh this year and the Broncos are scheduled to host the Steelers in 2024 🍿
So what’s the plan at quarterback?
  • Some of the free agents who signed elsewhere: Kirk Cousins, Jimmy Garoppolo, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Jameis Winston. Several QBs were also traded, including Justin Fields and Sam Howell.
  • So who’s left for Denver? The most notable free agent is Ryan Tannehill and the most notable trade candidate is Zach Wilson. No thanks to both.
  • Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels might be picked 1-2-3 in April and now the Vikings are positioned to trade up for a QB. Denver won’t be able to land one of Williams, Maye, Daniels or J.J. McCarthy without a trade.
  • Speaking of McCarthy, there’s been a lot of smoke connecting him to the Broncos, but will the Vikings beat them to him?
Russell Wilson wasn’t the only notable exit
  • LB Josey Jewell left in free agency to sign a big deal with the Panthers. The Broncos signed Cody Barton as a replacement and they also have Alex Singleton and Jonas Griffith returning.
Two other notes since we last recorded
  • DBs coach Christian Parker left the team to join the Eagles, reuniting with Vic Fangio. Vance Joseph remains Denver’s DC, but the new DBs coach is Jim Leonhard, who previously interviewed for DC jobs with the Packers and Eagles in the past (Green Bay even offered him the job). I wouldn’t be shocked if Leonhard ends up as the Broncos’ DC at some point.
  • Broncos legendary linebacker Randy Gradishar, the anchor of the famous “Orange Crush” defense, was elected to the Hall of Fame as a senior candidate. He’ll be enshrined in August and we should have an announcement any day now for Hall of Fame Game teams. Denver could be a 2024 candidate, but they did recently feature in the game in 2019.
What’s next?

Perhaps some budget free agent signings here and there followed by pro days and pre-draft visits and the NFL draft at the end of April. Stay tuned for mock drafts and prospect visit updates!

PODCAST: What are the Cardinals doing at WR, OLB?

Jess Root and Seth Cox talk about free agency and the NFL draft and what the Arizona Cardinals are doing in this edition of the podcast.

The latest edition of the podcast features me and cohost Seth Cox as we discuss a number of topics surrounding the Arizona Cardinals.

We talk about the additions and re-signings in free agency since the last show, specifically wondering why Chris Moore as added at receiver.

We discuss what might or must be coming at receiver and at outside linebacker, considering where the roster stands at those positions.

Lastly, we go over potential NFL draft trade scenarios, especially since the Minnesota Vikings made a trade to give them two first-round picks, seemingly setting themselves up to trade up for a quarterback. We look at a few mock drafts that have come out and discuss the merits of staying or trading the pick.

Former Duke star JJ Redick announces new podcast with LeBron James

JJ Redick, Duke’s all-time leading scorer, announced on Monday that he’d be starting a new podcast with NBA legend LeBron James. The first episode will drop on Tuesday morning.

Duke legend JJ Redick will get some pretty historic company on the microphone soon.

The Blue Devils all-time leading scorer announced on Monday that he’d started a new podcast with NBA legend LeBron James called “Mind the Game.”

The first episode of the podcast will be released on Tuesday, Redick added in the reveal.

Redick finished his four-year Duke career, which began in the 2002-03 season and continued until 2005-06, with 2,769 career points, the most in program history. He averaged 19.9 points per game across his career, reaching a program-record 26.8 points per game as a senior when he was named the consensus National Player of the Year. Only five other Duke players have ever earned that honor.

Redick’s 457 career 3-pointers are by far the most of any Duke player ever. No other Blue Devil has even made 350. The guard also holds program records in free-throw percentage (91.2%), 20-point games (70), and 30-point games (20). He’s the only Duke player to score 900 total points in a single season (964 in 2006).

Redick was drafted 11th overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2006 NBA draft, and he played in 940 NBA games across 15 seasons.

Joey Porter Jr. ripped on podcast rant by ex-Steelers CB

Steven Nelson is still bitter about how things ended with the Steelers.

Does every NFL team have so many former players with an axe to grind like the Pittsburgh Steelers do? It seems like more and more former Steelers whom the team didn’t keep wants to get in front of a microphone and rip the Steelers.

The latest cornerback is Steven Nelson. He took to his podcast (because doesn’t everyone have a podcast now?) and decided to throw a little tantrum about how his time with the team ended. But then he decided to take it a step further and take a not-so-subtle shot at starting cornerback Joey Porter Jr.

Nelson had the audacity to say that the Steelers still haven’t found a corner yet since he left despite drafting Porter in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft and he ended up being one of the two or three best rookie cornerbacks in the league last season.

Taking it a step further, he was also taking a shot at Patrick Peterson who the Steelers added last season. Peterson will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame after he retires and while he wasn’t his best last season, I’m not sure Nelson has the resume to insult him either.

PODCAST: Cardinals team report card, free agency preview

Jess Root and Seth Cox play general manager in the latest edition of the podcast.

This new edition of the podcast is a good one (well, it always is, to be honest). But this show is more fun than usual.

Seth Cox and I discuss the new NFLPA team report cards and what the Arizona Cardinals got. They made improvements.

But the fun part of the show is when we both play general manager and, as part of our second free agency preview, we go over the moves we would make if we were Monti Ossenfort.

Let us what you think of our plans!
