Player grades: Mikal Bridges scores 22 as Nets lose to Kings 131-118

Here are the Nets player grades following Monday’s 131-118 loss to the Sacramento Kings.

The Brooklyn Nets visited Golden 1 Center on Monday to face the Sacramento Kings for the first of five games on this west coast road trip and lost 131-118.

For the Nets, Mikal Bridges had 22 points and five assists while Spencer Dinwiddie had 18 points and seven assists. Cam Thomas had 18 points and Cam Johnson had 15 points.

For the Kings, De’Aaron Fox had 29 points and eight assists while Keegan Murray had 24 points and three assists. Malik Monk had 21 points off the bench and Trey Lyles had 17 points off the pine.

In the first half, the Kings used some stellar three-point shooting to lead by as many as 15 points in the half. However, after making 11 threes in a hurry, Sacramento’s shooting came down in a big way and that allowed the Nets to close the deficit to just 54-48 at the half.

In the second half, Sacramento had its best offensive showing in the third quarter as they could not miss from three and was steadfast in pushing the pace no matter what. With the way that the Kings were playing on the offensive end of the floor, it’s evident why they have one of the best offenses in the league.

Here are your Nets player grades following Friday’s 124-97 win over the Washington Wizards.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets welcomed the Washington Wizards to Barclays Center on Friday and won 124-97.

For the Nets, Mikal Bridges had 21 points and four rebounds while Cam Thomas had 17 points and four assists. Day’Ron Sharpe had 15 points off the bench and Spencer Dinwiddie had 14 points.

For the Wizards, Kyle Kuzma had 17 points and three rebounds while Deni Avdija had 15 points and seven rebounds. Tyus Jones had 14 points and Bilal Coulibaly had 11 points off the bench.

In the first half, both teams were ice-cold from behind the three-point line even though there were plenty of good shots created from both sides. It seemed that the Nets were going through the motions a bit, but Brooklyn was also missing a lot of shots that they normally make.

In the second half, the Nets turned things around in a hurry as they won the third quarter as Cam Thomas scored 10 points to guide the Nets in winning the quarter 40-24. After that, the Wizards were never able to make a substantial run and the white flag was waved halfway through the fourth quarter.

Player grades: Mikal Bridges drops 32 as Nets beat Hawks 114-113

Here are your Nets player grades following Wednesday’s 114-113 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

The Brooklyn Nets paid a visit to State Farm Arena on Wednesday to face the Atlanta Hawks and won 114-113.

For the Nets, Mikal Bridges had 32 points and six assists while Cam Johnson had 17 points and six rebounds. Dorian Finney-Smith had 15 points off the bench and Spencer Dinwiddie had 13 points.

For the Hawks, Trae Young had 30 points and nine assists while Saddiq Bey had 21 points and seven rebounds. Bogdan Bogdanovic had 20 points off the bench and De’Andre Hunter had 14 points.

In the first half, this game started similar to the first matchup between the two teams as Brooklyn and Atlanta weren’t playing much defense while scoring a lot of points in bunches. However, things changed in the second quarter as the Nets and Hawks struggled offensively with Atlanta going into halftime leading Brooklyn 56-53.

In the second half, both teams continued to play to a stalemate as neither team could separate from the other due to how evenly matched these teams are. In the end, like the first matchup, Bridges and Young went shot-for-shot with Young being the one who missed the last shot at the end as the Nets won the game 114-113.

Player grades: Mikal Bridges drops 42 as Nets beat Magic 129-101

Here are your Nets player grades following a dominating 129-101 win over the Orlando Magic on Saturday.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets hosted the Orlando Magic at Barclays center on Saturday and won 129-101.

For the Nets, Mikal Bridges had 42 points and five rebounds while Spencer Dinwiddie had 22 points and four rebounds. Cam Thomas had 20 points and Cam Johnson had 14 points.

For the Magic, Franz Wagner had 20 points and seven rebounds while Cole Anthony had 20 points and five rebounds off the bench. Paolo Banchero had 19 points and Moritz Wagner had 18 points off the bench.

In the first half, the Nets began the game with an effort that they did not show on Thursday night against the Hornets as they won every 50/50 ball against the Magic. Also, Mikal Bridges had the best half of his career as he scored 34 points from all over the floor, including from behind the three-point line. Brooklyn went into halftime leading Orlando 73-51.

In the second half, the Magic made a furious comeback to start the third quarter as they started to make some of the easy shots that they were missing in the first half along with the Nets starting to get sloppy with their play to begin the half. After about halfway through the third quarter, Brooklyn picked up their play to force Orlando out of striking distance into a fourth quarter that was Nets-dominated just like the first.

Player grades: Cam Thomas scores 26 as Nets lose to Hornets 129-128

Here are your Nets player grades following a disappointing 129-128 loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets hosted the Charlotte Hornets at Barclays Center on Thursday and lost 129-128.

For the Nets, Cam Thomas had 26 points and two rebounds off the bench in his return from his ankle injury while Mikal Bridges had 22 points and nine rebounds. Nic Claxton had 20 points and Cam Johnson had 15 points.

For the Hornets, Terry Rozier had 37 points and 13 assists while Miles Bridges had 23 points and five rebounds. Gordon Hayward had 22 points and Bryce McGowans had 14 points.

In the first half, it was clear from the beginning that this game was going to be a barn-burner as neither team could miss many shots. The Nets, however, allowed the Hornets to shoot 55.3% from the field, 57.9% from deep, and 100% from the free-throw line on 10 attempts. Brooklyn went into halftime trailing Charlotte 73-71.

In the second half, it was more of the same as halftime did not cool either of these teams off in terms of shooting the ball. In the end, Terry Rozier was just too much for the Nets to handle and Brooklyn lost 129-128 despite a great look for Johnson at the end of the game.

The Oklahoma Sooners’ offense had a banner year in 2023. A number of players had great seasons for an offense that finished No. 3 in the nation in scoring and No. 4 in total yards.

It was an offense that scored more than 40 points seven times and 50 or more three times.

Here are the Nets player grades following Tuesday’s 115-103 win over the Toronto Raptors in the NBA’s inaugural In-Season Tournament.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets hosted the Toronto Raptors at Barclays Center on Tuesday for the final day of the NBA’s inaugural In-Season Tournament and won 115-103.

For the Nets, Spencer Dinwiddie had 23 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists while Mikal Bridges had 22 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. Cam Johnson had 18 points and Royce O’Neale had 18 points off the bench.

For the Raptors, Pascal Siakam had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Scottie Barnes had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Gary Trent Jr. had 15 points off the bench and Dennis Schroder had 14 points.

In the first half, both teams were laying bricks as neither team could find its shooting touch from anywhere on the floor. The scoring picked up in the second quarter as both teams started to find their groove before the Nets ended the period with a 13-0 run in the last three minutes to go into halftime leading 52-44.

In the second half, Toronto got back into the game in a hurry as they started to wake up and play with more energy on both ends of the floor. However, Brooklyn ran away with things in the fourth quarter as O’Neale continued to make threes and the Raptors did not have an answer for him or Dinwiddie. The Nets eventually won the game 115-103 to finish the In-Season Tournament with a 3-1 record.

Here are the Nets player grades following a eventful 118-109 win over the Chicago Bulls on Sunday.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets welcomed the Chicago Bulls to Barclays Center on Sunday for the second leg of a home back-to-back and won 118-109.

For the Nets, Spencer Dinwiddie had 24 points and seven assists while Royce O’Neale had 20 points and nine rebounds. Lonnie Walker IV had 20 points off the bench and Mikal Bridges had 15 points.

For the Bulls, DeMar DeRozan had 27 points and six rebounds while Coby White had 23 points and five rebounds. Zach LaVine and Patrick Williams had 20 points each.

In the first half, Chicago came out like a team on a mission as they made threes aplenty to build a 21-point lead faster than you could blink. It was the kind of quarter where nothing worked for Brooklyn and everything was working for Chicago. The second quarter was the opposite as the Nets outscored the Bulls 44-19 thanks to some lights-out three-pointing of their own to go into halftime leading 63-55.

In the second half, both teams played to a stalemate essentially as the Nets lead the Bulls by one point in the half. However, with the way that Brooklyn completely turned things around in the second quarter, Chicago never made enough of a run to catch up.

Player grades: Mikal Bridges drops 24 as Nets beat Heat 112-97

Here are the Nets player grades following a 112-97 win over the Miami Heat on Saturday.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets hosted the Miami Heat at Barclays Center on Saturday for the third matchup between the two teams and won 112-97.

For the Nets, Mikal Bridges had 24 points and six rebounds while Cam Johnson had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Dorian Finney-Smith had 16 points and Spencer Dinwiddie had 14 points.

For the Heat, Caleb Martin had 22 points and seven rebounds off the bench while Jaime Jaquez Jr. had 18 points and five rebounds.

In the first half, the Nets had around a double-digit lead for most of the half as the Heat were missing Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, and Duncan Robinson to give them offensive production. Miami was able to get some good minutes out of the remaining healthy players like Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kyle Lowry, but still trailed the Nets 63-53 heading into halftime.

In the second half, Brooklyn continued to keep their foot on the gas as they did not give Miami a chance to get the deficit under double digits. The Nets played a complete game on both ends of the floor from wire-to-wire and they come away from this game with a 112-97 win.

Player grades: Lonnie Walker scores 26 in Nets’ 121-99 loss to 76ers

Here are the Nets player grades following Sunday’s 121-99 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets welcomed the Philadelphia 76ers to Barclays Center on Sunday and lost 121-99.

For the Nets, Lonnie Walker IV had 26 points and six rebounds while Mikal Bridges had 18 points and three assists. Spencer Dinwiddie had 12 points and Nic Claxton had 10 points.

For the 76ers, Joel Embiid had 32 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists while Tyrese Maxey had 25 points and 10 assists. De’Anthony Melton had 21 points and Tobias Harris had 10 points.

In the first half, both teams played to a standstill as neither team could gain separation from the other. In the second quarter, Philadelphia ended the period with a 20-5 run in the final four minutes to go into halftime with a 61-49 lead.

In the second half, the wheels fell off of any comeback bid that the Nets were hoping to make as they could not stop turning the ball over. More to the point, Tyrese Maxey started getting going in the third quarter and the 76ers never looked back before winning the game 121-99.
