Notre Dame receiver commit celebrates touchdown Disney Channel style

Would you have recognized this?

Notre Dame 2025 receiver commit [autotag]Elijah Burress[/autotag] has a famous father. Plaxico Burress played 11 NFL seasons, mostly during the 2000s. While the younger Burress only was alive for the last few years of that decade, he clearly has a great appreciation for at least one aspect of it.

During the aforementioned decade, Disney Channel was at the height of its popularity. Many of the young people who starred in its shows and movies became household names. And Disney wanted viewers to know exactly who they were.

Between shows, one of the channel’s stars would let viewers know what channel they were watching before tracing the channel’s logo with a wand. The logo would appear on screen. Here’s an example:

After scoring a touchdown in a recent game, Burress decided to pay tribute to this bumper that’s become something of a meme, and the announcer made sure everyone watching the game knew what it was.

Hey, you gotta love pop culture references in touchdown celebrations.

Michigan State football attempting to flip legacy recruit

The Spartans are in pursuit of Elijah Burress, son of MSU legend Plaxico, who is currently committed to Notre Dame

Michigan State football has 16 commits in its 2025 recruiting class, two of which are wide receivers: Braylon Collier and Charles Taplin. Now, the Spartans are looking to flip a key legacy recruit in the class.

Plaxico Burress’ son, Elijah, has been committed to Notre Dame since very early in his process. The Spartans are trying to change that, pursuing a flip of the Fighting Irish’s prospect and looking to get the son of the MSU legend on campus as soon as possible.

247Sports reporter Brian Dohn spoke to Burress about the process and the progress Michigan State is making in his recruitment.

Burress is from Wayne, New Jersey, and attends DePaul Catholic High School. He is a high three-star prospect.

Retired Giants great says they would have beaten Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII

Retired New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs believes they would have beaten the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII.

In 2008, the New York Giants were the defending Super Bowl champions and were off to a smoking 10-1 start. They were headed for the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a full head of steam.

Then, something bizarre happened. Star wide receiver Plaxixo Burress shot himself in the leg accidentally in a New York City nightclub and the fallout was insurmountable.

The Giants managed to improve to 11-1 that Sunday, defeating Washington without Burress, who was arrested, hospitalized and suspended after the incident.

December would not be kind to the Giants. They posted a 1-3 record to finish 12-4. They clinched the top seed in the NFC, but it was clear they had no juice or momentum heading into the postseason.

They would host the rival Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round and were a one-and-done team after getting clobbered, 23-11, sending them home for the winter.

The Arizona Cardinals, behind former Giant quarterback Kurt Warner, would win the NFC Championship and face the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl.

Former Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, reflecting on that season with Patrick Peterson and Bryant McFadden on the All Things Covered podcast, believes the Giants would have beaten both Super Bowl teams that season.

“Yup. We would’ve beat y’all in the Super Bowl. We were the No. 1 seed.” Jacobs said. “There’s no way the Arizona Cardinals coming from Arizona, playing in 30-degree, 20-degree weather to win an NFC Championship Game. That wasn’t going to happen.

“We whooped them earlier in that season in Arizona and it was a convincing win for us. I think y’all were the closest game we had throughout that season, I think we would’ve played y’all again in the Super Bowl and beat y’all.”

Jacobs obviously remembers events differently than most Giant fans. The truth is, the Giants peaked way too early and the Burress incident was too great for them to overcome. They were listless down the stretch and their performance against the Eagles in the playoffs was nothing short of pitiful.

Had the Burress incident not happened, however… Things might have may have gone the way Jacobs suggests.

Plaxico Burress says that the Jets’ season opener opponent is a Super Bowl contender

Plaxico Burress expects the Jets to once again be among the top teams in the NFL this year.

The New York Jets open the season with a tough road test against the San Francisco 49ers. And former NFL wide receiver Plaxico Burress believes that the Jets’ season opener opponent will once again be among the NFL’s best teams.

Burress spent the 2011 season with the Jets. He now works as an analyst for FS1 where he frequently appears on ‘The Carton Show.’

The comments from Burress aren’t a big surprise, given that the 49ers are an elite team. They’ve made the playoffs in four of the last five years (and in each of those seasons, they made it to the NFC Championship Game).

They’ve twice made it to the Super Bowl, losing on both occasions.

The sustainable nature of their team, where they seemingly reload each season, makes them a difficult match-up for the Jets.

“I’m expecting the San Francisco 49ers to get home-field advantage, win the NFC Championship Game and compete for another Super Bowl. I’m not going to say that they’re going to win it,” Burress said on Monday on FS1.

“The barometer for them is to get to another Super Bowl.”

The comments from Burress aren’t a shock, but they underscore that the Jets face a huge road challenge to start the season.

Here is the full clip, where the FS1 team on Carton’s show discusses the 49ers and their head coaching situation:

Plaxico Burress has bold take on Patriots rookie QB Drake Maye

Plaxico Burress clearly has his doubts about Drake Maye.

Former NFL wide receiver Plaxico Burress weighed in on New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye, while also taking some of coach Jerod Mayo’s recent comments to heart.

Mayo said the young quarterback had a lot to work on, when he met with reporters last weekend. Nevertheless, he also said the rookie has been working hard since arriving in New England, including staying late at night to watch film.

The organization is looking to find a franchise quarterback for the second time in four seasons.

Burress completely took Mayo’s words out of context, as he spoke on “The Carton Show” earlier this week.

“That doesn’t sound good to me if I’m Jerod Mayo and the fans for the New England Patriots,” Burress said. “Basically what you’re saying is that, ‘We might have drafted the wrong guy. We are just going to paint this picture right now. He may not be as good as we thought he was coming out.'”

This is an odd take considering last weekend was just the start of rookie minicamp. So Maye has barely even started his NFL journey. With that said, something tells me this won’t be the last bold take we hear on the matter this year.

Son of retired Giants WR Plaxico Burress commits to Notre Dame

Elijah Burress, the son of former New York Giants wide receiver and Super Bowl champion, Plaxico Burress, has committed to Notre Dame.

Elijah Burress, the son of former New York Giants wide receiver and Super Bowl champion, Plaxico Burress, committed to Notre Dame on Saturday.

The DePaul Catholic High School product is the 36th-ranked wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting cycle by 247Sports and is the 15th member of Notre Dame’s class.

Burress received his offer from Notre Dame on January 11 and the school made a strong push for his final commitment over the past several weeks. He ultimately chose the Fighting Irish over Duke, James Madison, Marshall, Cincinnati, Liberty, and a multitude of other programs.

6-foot-1, 170-pound Burress caught 25 passes for 434 yards and five touchdowns during his junior season.

Elijah’s father, Plaxico, was a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2000 NFL draft. He spent the first five seasons of his career with Pittsburgh before signing with the Giants as a free agent in 2005.

Burress completely changed the Giants’ offensive and formed a tight bond with quarterback Eli Manning, eventually helping to lead them to the Super Bowl.

Although Burress’ impact in Super Bowl XLII was minimal due to an injury, he did catch the game-winning touchdown. That came after a historically dominant performance in the AFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers.

Burress never officially retired from the NFL.

Notre Dame Football: Wide Receiver Set To Announce Commitment on Saturday

Another son of an NFL star headed to Notre Dame?

A key Notre Dame target in the 2025 recruiting class is set to announce his college decision.

Elijah Burress, a wide receiver from Wayne, New Jersey will announce Saturday where he intends to play his college football.

The 6-1, 170-pounder seems headed to Notre Dame, but stranger things have certainly happened.  He currently lists having seven offers with Duke, Cincinnati, Liberty, East Carolina, UMass, and Temple also being in on him.

Burress is the son of former Michigan State and NFL star Plaxico Burress who caught what wound up being the game winning touchdown reception in the Giants upset win of the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

Will Elijah be joining Notre Dame’s 2025 class on Saturday?

We are certainly expecting good news on this one.

Notre Dame offers 2025 New Jersey wide receiver, son of former NFL star

The Irish aren’t strangers to offering the son’s of former NFL stars and did it once again

At this point in the 2025 cycle, Notre Dame football can be extremely picky with its offers to high school recruits.

With 13 current commits, in a class view as one of the best early collections of talent, the Irish don’t need to reach for anyone at the moment. They found a potential gem in New Jersey, wide receiver [autotag]Elijah Burress[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 1-inch and 170-pound pass catcher was offered a scholarship from Notre Dame on Thursday afternoon.

Burress currently isn’t ranked by major services, as he is a bit of an unknown at the moment, but the Irish saw enough from his junior film to pull the trigger on an offer.

Part of the reason why he received his offer is his bloodlines, as Plaxico, his father played at Michigan State and was the No. 8 pick of the 2000 NFL draft and had a very good career. Elijah becomes the latest offer to a son of a former NFL star.

Ex-Giant Plaxico Burress: Cowboys can’t win a championship with Dak Prescott

Former New York Giants WR Plaxico Burress says Dak Prescott has reached his ceiling as a QB and the Cowboys won’t win a title with him.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress knows a little something about what it takes to win a Super Bowl title. After all, he caught the game-winning touchdown in Big Blue’s historic upset of the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

But due to an unfortunate incident that resulted in Burress suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound and subsequent jail sentence, he was never afforded the opportunity to return to The Big Game.

Still, Burress can look out across the current NFL landscape and see which teams are capable of winning a ring and which are not.

When it comes to the Dallas Cowboys, Burress doesn’t see a championship in their future — at least so long as quarterback Dak Prescott is under center.

“I believe he’s reached his ceiling as a quarterback with the Dallas Cowboys,” Burress said of Prescott. “They can win but they won’t win a championship with him.”

Burress’ take may seem a bit harsh but it’s one shared by many. Not only has Prescott become a bit injury prone, but he’s also regressed in terms of protecting the football. He tossed a career-high 15 interceptions in 2022 to go along with four fumbles. The season prior, he threw 10 interceptions and fumbled 14 times.

Prescott is still a talented quarterback but Burress just doesn’t see him taking that next step and putting the Cowboys in a position to win a ring.

Ex-Giant Plaxico Burress has a message for Ja Morant

Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress is offering up a word of advice to NBA star Ja Morant.

NBA star Ja Morant has been in the headlines this week for a video on his Instagram story where Morant flashed a firearm. Many sports figures have weighed in as the situation continues to develop.

Retired New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who had his career turned upside down due to an incident with a gun, was a guest on Fox Sports’ “The Carton Show” and offered advice to Morant.

“If you can’t learn anything, learn from me,” said Burress. “Make better decisions because you really don’t want for him to have that label being that he’s so young. He has the opportunity to be the face of the NBA. He’s that great of a player.”

Burress can certainly be an example for Morant to learn from.

In 2008, Burress’ season and Giants tenure abruptly ended after he accidentally shot himself in the leg while out at a club in New York City with some of his teammates. The Giants were 10-1 at the time, rolling through opponents following their Super Bowl XLII upset the season before.

Big Blue would lose three of their final five games without Burress and were bounced in the second round of the playoffs. The Giants would release the Super Bowl hero in the ensuing offseason.

Burress spent two years in prison due to the incident.

Burress is one of the more underrated players in franchise history and will always be remembered for the game-winning catch in Super Bowl XLII. Although, many wonder what could have been in 2008 for Big Blue if Burress’ season wasn’t cut short.
