Cardinals blast Steelers in locker room after momentous win

Fun at the Steelers expense continued into the locker room for the Arizona Cardinals.

You could hear a pin drop in the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room after they were embarrassed by the Arizona Cardinals 24-10. But it was the opposite coming from the visitor’s locker room.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Brian Batko reported hearing one player yell, “Matt Canada was at the crib watching the game like, ‘I’m the problem, huh?'”

For years, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been known for blaring “Take Over Your Trap” in visitor’s locker rooms as they revel in the glory of a win. This time, it was the Cardinals in their house.

The Cardinals had every right to put the Steelers on blast. They expected Arizona to roll over, and instead, they played like it was their Super Bowl. As for Pittsburgh, it was sloppy from the second drive on — and that was before the rain fell in sheets.

The Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t bad, they’re awful. Even without Matt Canada, the offense could barely manage 300 yards, and their only touchdown came when it no longer mattered. It’s still Canada’s offense, though, and the Steelers are showing you can’t put lipstick on a pig — even if they dressed it up a little against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Next week, Pittsburgh faces a New England Patriots team that’s allowing just 219 yards and 21 points per game. If the Steelers can score 21 points, it’ll be a surprise.

Steelers S Minkah Fitzpatrick played with broken hand vs. Cardinals

The only thing that kept Minkah Fitzpatrick going on Sunday was pure adrenaline.

In his first game back in four weeks, Minkah Fitzpatrick suffered another serious injury — only he didn’t notice at first.

Midway through the second quarter, Fitzpatrick realized he had broken his left hand. He estimates the injury was sustained on a tackle but didn’t notice until a few plays later when he tried to punch out a ball.

“Not too much,” Fitzpatrick told ESPN’s Brooke Pryor on how it affected his play. “They cast me up during one of the delays. I couldn’t grab with it, but I was able to still play and didn’t miss a play.”

Fitzpatrick is certain he’ll be out there four days from now when the Steelers host the 2-10 New England Patriots on “Thursday Night Football.”

“I’ll be fine. Wrap it up. Club it up.”

Prior to his hamstring injury, Fitzpatrick had recorded 54 total tackles in seven games. He added seven more in the loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Steelers WR Diontae Johnson with another showing of immaturity in loss to Cardinals

Diontae Johnson should know better, but he doesn’t.

A touchdown should be celebrated. No question. Even the NFL agreed, finally relaxing on their stance in 2017. But celebrating a touchdown when your team has been playing “JV football” and your team is getting blown out by one of the worst teams in the league — not cool, man.

But if anyone is going to do it, it’s Diontae Johnson. Yeah, the guy who has two touchdowns in two seasons. It was a delayed reaction, as if he almost thought better of it… for a moment.

Egged on by George Pickens, Johnson did a little dance before tossing the ball into the air and shooting it down. Don’t be surprised if the league fines Johnson for using the ball as a prop, even if it was a weak attempt.

Tack this onto laziness and temper tantrums, and it’s not a good look for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Report: Kenny Pickett needs surgery after Steelers get crushed by Cardinals

The Steelers will be without Kenny Pickett for the foreseeable future.

Kenny Pickett came into Sunday’s Week 13 game with ankle discomfort and exited just before halftime with a far more serious injury — one that’s being reported as requiring surgery.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac tweeted that “Pickett will have a surgical procedure Monday on his injured ankle and expected to be out 2-4 weeks.”

The injury occurred after another errant snap by center Mason Cole (who had multiple on the day). As protection broke down, Pickett saw an opportunity to score and took it. Unfortunately, he fell short of the goal line and further injured his ankle in the process.

There’s nothing official yet from the Steelers, but Mike Tomlin will address the media tomorrow to provide as little detail as possible.

Mitch Trubisky, who passed for 117 yards and a touchdown, will start Thursday versus the New England Patriots and their top-10 defense.

Steelers vs. Cardinals: Pittsburgh’s inactive list for Week 13

Here are the inactive players for Steelers-Cardinals.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are getting ready to take on the Arizona Cardinals for the first time since Dec. 8, 2019, when Duck Hodges led them to a 23-17 win.

Today it’s an entirely different Steelers team that will take the field, mostly healthy save tackle Montravius Adams.

Here are Pittsburgh’s inactive players for this week:

Steelers vs. Cardinals: Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren are in for a big game

If the Cards’ defense continues as it has all season vs. the Steelers today, Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren are in for BIG games.

The ground game has certainly been the Pittsburgh Steelers’ bread and butter these past few weeks. Just as the offensive line started gelling — especially since the addition of Broderick Jones to the starting lineup — Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren emerged as one of the better tandems in the league.

The two have produced an average of 114 yards per game this season, most coming in the past four games with 652 yards and five scores combined.

The Arizona Cardinals and their 31st-ranked (points allowed) defense have surrendered 38 touchdowns this season, 16 of them to running backs on 1,681 rush yards.

If the Steelers can put up 150-plus rushing yards this afternoon, it’ll be their fifth consecutive week doing so and mark the first time such a feat has been accomplished since 1977 — a surprise given how many stellar seasons running backs have produced in Pittsburgh since then.

Steelers vs. Cardinals: Pittsburgh’s final injury report ahead of Week 13

Here’s the final injury report leading up to the Steelers-Cardinals matchup.

For the first time this season, the Pittsburgh Steelers are one guy short of being a fully healthy squad. Minkah Fitzpatrick said today he’ll play on Sunday, and only defensive tackle Montravius Adams (ankle) is questionable. Adams, who hasn’t suited up since playing two snaps versus the Tennessee Titans in Week 9, was limited on Friday after participating fully on Thursday.

Here’s the full rundown from Steelers.com.

Steelers QB Kenny Pickett states the obvious about Pittsburgh’s offense

The matchup between the Steelers and Cardinals couldn’t be coming at a more perfect time.

The matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals couldn’t be coming at a more perfect time. Pittsburgh is struggling to put points on the board, and Arizona’s defense is struggling to stop opponents from scoring.

While everyone is still harping on the fact that the Steelers went over 400 yards of total offense versus the Cincinnati Bengals for the first time since Matt Canada joined the staff, points are where it’s at to remain competitive in the NFL.

Points are the next natural step to keep building on the offense now run by offensive coordinator Eddie Faulkner and play-caller Mike Sullivan.

“Points. Points. That’s what we want. We want points,” Kenny Pickett said on Wednesday. “Yards are great, you know, yards are great, but points win you games.”

It gave the offense (and defense) a boost to achieve the feat that many teams manage to accomplish on a weekly basis. It was something they desperately needed to hold their heads up high.

“It felt good on Sunday. After watching the tape and seeing how we executed in the pass game, the run game, how things kind of balanced off each other — definitely liked our performance, but we want more points, obviously.”

Pittsburgh now has the foundation to get there.

“The chunk plays were there,” he added. “We had some really good drives working on some long fields. We had some penalties and bad plays take us out of that rhythm. We get rid of that, the points should come.

“It’s game planning, the coverage, having the right call at the right time, getting them into those coverages and the shots we want to take versus the looks we’re seeing. We had them, which is great. It all works together. The protection was great; guys were getting open, I was making the throws. I want to continue having that great prep. It all happens during the week.”

The Cardinals and their 31st-ranked (points allowed) defense come to Pittsburgh on Sunday. The unit has surrendered 38 touchdowns this season. The only team that’s given up more is the Washington Commanders with 39.
