Cubs at Pirates projected starters

RHP Marcus Stroman vs. RHP Johan Oviedo

Stroman (8-4, 2.45 ERA) makes his 16th start. He has a 1.04 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9 and 7.7 K/9 in 91 2/3 innings.

  • Has won 6 straight starts, posting a 1.51 ERA during that span.  During the recent hot stretch his 31/14 K/BB is mediocre, but he’s been aided by a .189 BABIP and 4% HR/F
  • Has 2.72 ERA in 7 road starts, but with 18 walks in 39 2/3 IP (4.1 BB/9)

Oviedo (3-6, 4.40 ERA) makes his 15th start. He has a 1.47 WHIP, 4.2 BB/9 and 8.4 K/9 in 75 2/3 innings.

  • Couldn’t get out of the 5th inning against the Cubs last time out, but had 8 K’s, his 2nd-best mark of the season
  • Has a 3.86 ERA in 7 home starts with just 2 HRs allowed and a 34/14 K/BB in 42 IP

Cubs at Pirates picks and predictions

Prediction

Cubs 5, Pirates 3

Moneyline

The Pittsburgh bats have been extremely quiet lately, as they have managed just 20 runs over their last 9 games. Stroman hasn’t pitched as well as his ERA would suggest, but he is certainly in a good spot here, and his team should come out on top and send the Pirates to their 8th straight loss. Back the CUBS -135.

Run line/Against the spread

The Chicago offense has been rolling lately, with 52 runs in their last 7 games, and most of that damage has been done against Pittsburgh pitching (36 runs in 4 games). Oviedo’s skills have been pretty marginal throughout the season, and the Cub bats stand a strong chance of staying hot in this game. Take the CUBS -1.5 (+135), as they should remain hot and win by multiple runs.

Over/Under

The total has gone over in 6 of Chicago’s last 8 games and their offense should do their part in getting there again Tuesday. However, the slumping Pirates probably won’t do much against Stroman. There doesn’t appear to be much value on either side of this line so PASS.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Pittsburgh Pirates odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Los Angele Dodgers at Pittsburgh Pirates odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Dodgers (13-12) and Pittsburgh Pirates (17-8) wrap up their 3-game series in the Steel City on Thursday. First pitch from PNC Park is slated for 12:35 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Dodgers vs Pirates odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Tied 1-1

Thursday’s game ends a 7-game road trip for the Dodgers, who took 3 of 4 from the Cubs at Wrigley Field last weekend and have split the 1st 2 games against the Pirates during their NL Central swing.

The surprising Pirates had their 7-game win streak snapped by the Dodgers 8-1 on Tuesday night. Pittsburgh leads the NL Central by a game over the Milwaukee Brewers on the strength of their starting pitching, which has put together 10 consecutive quality starts.

Dodgers at Pirates projected starters

LHP Julio Urias vs. RHP Mitch Keller

Urias (3-2, 3.33 ERA) is making his 6th start. He owns a 1.22 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9 and 10 K/9 in 27 IP.

  • Current Pittsburgh bats own an aggregate .720 OPS and 12 strikeouts against him
  • 2022 vs. Pirates: 0-2, 4.50 ERA, 12 IP, 19 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 12 K, .365 BA allowed
  • Lost his last 2 starts against NL Central teams

Keller (2-0, 3.64 ERA) makes his 6th start. He has a 1.25 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 9,1 K/9 in 29.2 IP.

  • One 2022 start vs. Dodgers: 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 5 BB, 5 K and a win in Pirates 5-3 victory in Los Angeles
  • Current Los Angeles batters own an aggregate 1.100 OPS against him.
  • Has at least 5 K’s in 4 of 5 starts this season

Dodgers at Pirates picks and predictions

Prediction

Pirates 6, Dodgers 4

Moneyline

I like the Pirates’ chances to take the rubber match on Thursday. Urias may be the superior talent, but he has not fared well on the road to the tune of a 5.79 ERA. Keller has not allowed more than 2 ER in either of his home starts this season.

Take the PIRATES +142.

Run line/Against the spread

Since I believe the Pirates will win this game outright, if you need a little insurance definitely take them on the run line. But the moneyline offers a better value. I’m expecting both starters will make early exits in this game.

Take the PIRATES +1.5 (-118).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

There is a lot to like about the Over in this matchup. Both games in this series got to double-digit total runs. Los Angeles has pounded right-handed pitchers for 21 HRs combined between Max Muncy, James Outman, J.D. Martinez, and Mookie Betts. Urias has also been prone to the long ball,  allowing 4 HRs in his last 2 starts. The Bucs have 3 hitters in their lineup with 5 HRs on the season.

Take the OVER 8 (-105).

Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Mets odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Mets odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Pirates (32-54) and New York Mets (45-38) got rained out Thursday, and will now begin a four-game weekend series Friday at 7:10 p.m. ET at Citi Field. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Pirates vs. Mets odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP JT Brubaker is the projected starting pitcher for the Pirates. He is 4-8 with a 4.09 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 8.7 K/9 and 1.9 BB/9 in 83 2/3 IP over 15 starts.

Brubaker hasn’t been great on the road this season, as he boasts a 4.70 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, compared to 3.40 and 0.96 at home. He has allowed five homers in his last two starts, pushing his HR/9 up to 1.7 on the year.

RHP Taijuan Walker is the projected starting pitcher for the Mets. He is 7-3 with a 2.44 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 in 85 IP over 15 starts.

Walker has been lights out at home this season, putting up a 1.52 ERA in seven starts, with 45 strikeouts across 41 1/3 IP.

Pirates at Mets odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 10:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Pirates +175 (bet $100 to win $175) | Mets -200 (bet $2000 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Pirates +1.5 (-130) | Mets -1.5 (+105)
  • Over/Under: 7.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Prediction

Mets 5, Pirates 2

Money line (ML)

The Pirates have struggled all season on the road, winning just 13 of 42 contests and ranking 29th in the league at 3.00 runs per game.

Brubaker got off to a strong start but has recorded a 5.36 ERA and 2.0 HR/9 over his last eight starts.

The Mets are 26-12 at home this season and should come out on top in this one, but -200 is too steep. PASS on the money line.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Pirates have scored two runs or less in eight of their last 10 games, and face a pitcher in Walker who has had a lot of success in his home park. They will have a tough time getting much going Friday evening.

The Mets haven’t hit well at home, as their 3.39 runs per game rank dead last in all of baseball. But several starters have recently returned from injury, and they should push across enough runs to win by more than one.

Go with METS -1.5 (+105).

Over/Under (O/U)

This is a matchup of the two lowest-scoring teams in the league. The Mets run line and Under can’t both hit if the Pirates get three or more runs, but Walker has allowed two runs or less in eight of his last 10 starts and should shut down a struggling Pittsburgh offense.

The Mets aren’t likely to have a huge day, either, so UNDER 7.5 (-115) is the side to take.
