Lightning at Penguins projected goalies

Brian Elliott (2021-22: 11-4-3, 2.43 GAA, .912 SV%) vs. Tristan Jarry (1-0-0, 2.02 GAA, .929 SV%)

Elliott is making his 1st start of the season. The now-37-year-old played well down the stretch last season, logging a .923 SV% over his last 9 games.

Jarry started the Pens’ opener and stopped 26-of-28 shots against the Coyotes. The 2 goals he allowed were of the power-play variety. Jarry won 34 games and logged a .919 SV% last season. He has been a fast starter in past seasons (.930 SV% in October games) and has been solid at home (.920 SV% career).

Lightning at Penguins picks and predictions

Prediction

Penguins 4, Lightning 2

Moneyline

Tampa Bay was tremendous in the back half of 2-in-2’s last season. The Lightning went 10-0-2 in the second games. But there has been some turnover that this 2022-23 edition of Bolts hockey will have to deal with in the season’s first few weeks especially. This is a different group, especially on the blue line in front of Brian Elliott making his season debut.

The goaltending edge goes to the Pens. And Pittsburgh is the more rested team and one that played Tampa tough last year.

TAKE PITTSBURGH (-165).  The price has been steamed up this morning after Elliott was announced, but it’s right at the borderline.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS. Lots of juice chipping away at the Pittsburgh lean.

Over/Under

Consider a live bet here after the puck drops. If the number gets down to Over 5.5 (+100) a few minutes in, that’s your time to strike. Pittsburgh scored 6 in its season opener and faces a backup tendy. So that should be a good spot to get in.

PASS.

New York Rangers at Pittsburgh Penguins Game 6 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s New York Rangers at Pittsburgh Penguins Game 6 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Rangers have their backs against the wall on the road against the Pittsburgh Penguins Friday in Game 6 of their 1st-round Eastern Conference playoff series. The Pens lead the series 3-2. Puck drop from PPG Paints Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (TNT).  Below, we look at the Rangers vs. Penguins Game 6 odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

We projected the Rangers to force a Game 6 Wednesday, and they delivered on all our picks as they won 5-3. They actually went down 2-0 before turning it on late in the second period. The Rangers outscored Pittsburgh 5-1 in the last 25 minutes of the game. LW Alexis Lafreniere doubled his point total for the series with a goal and an assist.

C Sidney Crosby has been ruled out Friday after he left Game 5 with 7 minutes to go in the second period with an upper-body injury. He didn’t take part in the morning skate, but G Tristan Jarry did. Jarry hasn’t played in the series (right foot injury) and is out Friday, but could return if it reaches Game 7. LW Jake Guentzel, who has 7 goals and an assist in the series, will have to put the Pens on his back if they want to avoid Game 7.

Rangers at Penguins odds and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 1:12 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rangers -125 (bet $125 to win $100) | Penguins +102 (bet $100 to win $102)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Rangers -1.5 (+185) | Penguins +1.5 (-260)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -105 | U: -120)

Rangers at Penguins projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (36-13-4, 2.07 GAA, .935 SV%, 6 SO – regular season) vs. Louis Domingue (1-1-0, 2.02 GAA, .952 SV% – regular season)

According to MoneyPuck.com, Shesterkin led the NHL with 34.1 goals saved above expected in what might lead to a Vezina Trophy. He is 7th in the playoffs with 2.1. So, he hasn’t been as good, but he hasn’t been terrible either. He stopped 29 of 32 in Game 5, and he has a .905 SV% in the series. He was terrible in Pittsburgh, though, allowing 10 goals on 45 shots and hitting the showers early in both games.

Domingue allowed 4 goals on 33 shots in Game 5, and he has allowed 4 goals in 3 of the 5 games. He has actually underperformed as far as MoneyPuck’s metrics go as he’s near the bottom of the playoffs with -3.4 goals saved above expected.

[tipico]

Rangers at Penguins picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Penguins 2

Money line

Take the RANGERS (-125) quickly because the news about Crosby should continue to drive New York’s price up. If you get in late, look to the puck line instead.

Against the spread

According to StatMuse, the Pens were 5-4-4 without Crosby this season. So while this is bad news for Pittsburgh, it’s not time to cash out Penguins bets to win the series. The key component here is how the Rangers responded to pressure in Game 5. They could have packed it in and called it a season after they got down 2-0 halfway through the game, but they stormed back.

Domingue is starting to crack in goal so look for the Rangers and LW Chris Kreider, who has been scoreless in 2 straight games, to take advantage. LEAN RANGERS -1.5 (+185).

Over/Under

The Over has hit in all 5 games of the series. I have a hunch that changes in this one. Shesterkin hasn’t been himself, and he’ll see an opening to hone in and shut this team down to get it back to MSG. I’d probably lean Over if it were 5.5, but since it has steamed up to 6.5, we’ll LEAN UNDER 6.5 (-120).

Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Rangers Game 5 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Rangers Game 5 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (3-1) look to close out the New York Rangers (1-3) in Game 5 of their 1st-round Eastern Conference playoff series. Puck drop from Madison Square Garden is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN).  Below, we look at the Penguins vs. Rangers odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Rangers can’t go out like this, can they? The favorite for the Vezina Trophy all season, Igor Shesterkin, being chased from the net in the last two games and being thoroughly outplayed by a third-string goalie in Louis Domingue?

Pittsburgh won 2 at home, which is what they were supposed to do. However, it’s the fashion in which they did it that makes this series feel so disproportionate. The Pens won 7-4 and 7-2 to take a commanding 3-1 lead. Future Hall-of-Fame C Sidney Crosby had 1 goal and 4 assists in the 2 wins, and he leads the team with 9 points in the playoffs. He has been great, but it’s the supporting cast emerging around him that has been the difference. LW Jake Guentzel has stepped up with 5 goals in the series.

For the Rangers, it’s not all doom and gloom. The Penguins have exploited a soft spot by parking in front of the net and scoring often on deflections. That’s correctable. The Rangers aren’t getting production outside of their top-3 forwards: Artemi Panarin, Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad, who each have a point per game. They need LW Alexis Lafreniere to play above his 20-year-old age as he has just 2 points in the series.

Penguins at Rangers odds and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:37 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Penguins +110 (bet $100 to win $110) | Rangers -135 (bet $135 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Penguins +1.5 (-220) | Rangers -1.5 (+165)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: +102 | U: -122)

Penguins at Rangers projected goalies

Louis Domingue (1-1-0, 2.02 GAA, .952 SV% – regular season) vs. Igor Shesterkin (36-13-4, 2.07 GAA, .935 SV%, 6 SO – regular season)

Domingue has been solid with a 3.07 GAA and .917 SV% in the series, but he has allowed 3.67 goals per game in his 3 starts. He has been beatable, and the Rangers are expected to throw everything at him in Game 5.

The Rangers have announced they’re sticking with Shesterkin. However, there are sure to be second-guessers after Alexandar Georgiev made 29 saves on 31 shots in relief of Shesterkin the last 2 games. Shesterkin has allowed 10 goals on 45 shots in the last 2 games. Let’s not forget he made an insane 79 saves in the triple-OT thriller in Game 1.

[tipico]

Penguins at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 5, Penguins 2

Money line

It’s do or die for New York. Look for them to air it out at home because this series could easily be tied 2-2 if certain bounces went their way in the 3-OT loss in Game 1. The Rangers were 3-1 against the Pens in the regular season, and that loss was 1-0. The price is pretty solid at home, and they’ll survive another day. Take the RANGERS -135.

Against the spread

The Rangers -1.5 (+165) could very well cash, but the Penguins have scored 14 goals in the last 2 games on the team with arguably the best goalie in hockey. PASS.

Over/Under

The Over has been money all series, and we’re still getting plus-money on it. The Over has cashed in the last 5 playoff games for the Pens and the last 4 they were underdogs. The Over has also cashed in the last 7 games following a Rangers loss of 3 or more goals. Take the OVER 6.5 (+102).

New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Islanders (34-29-9) fight to stay alive in the playoff hunt against the Pittsburgh Penguins (42-22-11) Thursday at PPG Paints Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Islanders vs. Penguins odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Islanders are on life support, 15 points out of the final playoff spot with 10 games to go. They have won six of eight, including a 5-4 shootout win over the Pens at home Tuesday. LW Zach Parise scored twice to lead the way. Pittsburgh jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but the Isles stormed back with three of their own. This is a scrappy team that plays physically.

The Pens are short-handed with C Evgeni Malkin serving a four-game suspension for cross checking. C Jake Guentzel stepped up Tuesday with two goals and an assist.

Islanders at Penguins odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 10:01 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Islanders +135 (bet $100 to win $135) | Penguins -170 (bet $170 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Islanders +1.5 (-200) | Penguins -1.5 (+150)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: -112 | U: -108)

Islanders at Penguins projected goalies

Ilya Sorokin (24-14-7, 2.30 GAA, .927 SV%, 6 SO) vs. Tristan Jarry (33-18-6, 2.41 GAA, .919 SV%, 4 SO)

Even though he gave up four goals Tuesday, Sorokin made 43 saves in the game. After missing 10 days with an injury, he has now beaten Carolina and Pittsburgh. Sorokin had a 1.98 GAA in March, and he will be the X-factor in this one. Sorokin was a tough-luck 1-0 loser to Pittsburgh earlier this season, and he has stopped 72 of 77 shots with a 2.44 GAA against them this year.

Jarry has been off since Saturday, but he has been jarred of late. He has lost five games in a row, and his 3.61 GAA this month is concerning after the late-season swoon we saw from him last year. Jarry stopped all 25 shots in the 1-0 shutout against the Isles earlier this season.

[tipico]

Islanders at Penguins odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 4, Penguins 3

Money line

Pittsburgh is just 3-6-1 in the last 10 games, and they’re without one of their top centers. They needed overtime for two of those wins. The Islanders are playing well and still have a chance to make the playoffs. They’ve also beaten Pittsburgh four out of the last five games with that lone loss being 1-0. There’s a decent chance the ISLANDERS (+135) pull off another one as the underdog on the road.

Against the spread

There’s no value on the puck line here. PASS.

Over/Under

The Over and Under have taken turns in this series with each hitting three times in the last six meetings. We’re going to give the edge to the Over here with the way Jarry has been playing. The Over is 5-1 the last six times the Isles have a day of rest. LEAN OVER 5.5 (-112).

Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Islanders odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Islanders odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (42-22-10) take a short trip to face the New York Islanders (33-29-9) Tuesday at UBS Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Penguins vs. Islanders odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Penguins snapped a four-game losing skid last time out as C Sidney Crosby had a superstar moment with an overtime winner against the Nashville Predators Saturday. Pittsburgh has been mired in a rough stretch against mostly playoff foes and has won just three of its last 10 games.

The Islanders were left without a paddle in a 6-1 loss at the St. Louis Blues Friday. New York has been playing inspired hockey of late, going 6-4 in its last 10 games against some good teams.

Penguins at Islanders odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 10:23 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Penguins -120 (bet $120 to win $100) | Islanders +100 (bet $100 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Penguins -1.5 (+185) | Islanders +1.5 (-260)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Penguins at Islanders projected goalies

Tristan Jarry (33-18-6, 2.41 GAA, .919 SV%, 4 SO) vs. Ilya Sorokin (23-14-7, 2.27 GAA, .927 SV%, 6 SO)

Jarry has lost five games in a row in what has to be a concerning trend after he had a late-season swoon last year. He’s 0-4 with a 3.60 GAA and a .896 SV% in April. If you have any aspirations of going deep into the playoffs, you need your goalie to perform better. This could be a “get-right” game for him as he shut out the Isles, saving 25 shots, in his only appearance against them this year.

Sorokin was great in his return from injury in a 2-1 upset over the Carolina Hurricanes Friday. He stopped 20 of 21 shots he saw. He was also great in a tough-luck loss to the Pens earlier this season, stopping 29 of 30 shots in a 1-0 loss.

[tipico]

Penguins at Islanders odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Penguins 2, Islanders 1

Money line

These two teams battled to a 1-0 finish in November, and this feels like another low-scoring affair. Pittsburgh’s recent struggles have resulted in a great price. Roll with the PENGUINS (-120).

Against the spread

There’s no value on the puck line as Pittsburgh’s offense hasn’t been reliable, nor has their netminder. PASS.

Over/Under

There isn’t a lot of data to shift this one either way. The Over is 7-3 in the last 10 between these teams in New York, but Pittsburgh’s offense isn’t in the same stratosphere as those previous teams. Penguins C Evgeni Malkin is serving a four-game suspension for cross-checking and will not be a participant. LEAN UNDER 5.5 (-110).

Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Rangers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Rangers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (41-20-10) head to the Big Apple to face the New York Rangers (45-20-6) Thursday at Madison Square Garden. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Penguins vs. Rangers odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Penguins are in the midst of the toughest part of their schedule, and they’re just 2-4-1 in the last 7 games. They were beaten 6-4 by the Colorado Avalanche on their home ice Tuesday. If the season ended today, these two teams would meet in the first round of the playoffs.

The Rangers had a “get right” win Tuesday when they downed the New Jersey Devils 3-1. The Rangers had 2 bad losses before that, but they’re 7-2-1 over the last 10 games. LW Artemi Panarin has 9 points in the last 5 games to lead the charge.

Penguins at Rangers odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:39 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Penguins -112 (bet $112 to win $100) | Rangers -108 (bet $108 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Penguins +1.5 (-280) | Rangers -1.5 (+195)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: -125 | U: +100)

Penguins at Rangers projected goalies

Tristan Jarry (33-16-6, 2.39 GAA, .920 SV%, 4 SO) vs. Igor Shesterkin (32-10-4, 2.14 GAA, .933 SV%, 3 SO)

Jarry has lost 4 of 5 with just an .887 SV% during the stretch. He kind of went in the tank down the stretch and in the playoffs last year so it’s troubling to see. He stopped 23 of 26 in the 3-2 loss to the Rangers last week. He’s 1-2 with a 2.77 GAA and a .902 SV% against NYR this year.

Shesterkin has allowed 3 goals in each of his last 2 starts and has looked very vulnerable of late. However, Shesterkin shut down the Pens twice in 5 days in the last week of March allowing just 3 goals on 45 shots. He’s 2-1 with a 1.35 GAA and .944 SV% against the Pens this year.

[tipico]

Penguins at Rangers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Penguins 2

Money line

The Rangers are short dogs at home, and the numbers are trending in their direction. They’ve beaten the last 5 teams they played with a winning record, and the home team is 9-3 in these two teams’ last 12 meetings. The Rangers are playing a lot better than the Pens, and Shesterkin is a sizeable advantage in goal. Take the RANGERS -108.

Against the spread

The Rangers are 4-6 against the Penguins in the last 10 games over the last 2 seasons. Three of those wins have been by more than 1 goal. The important thing to note here is how the Pens appear to be fading late in the year again. With C Sidney Crosby and C Evgeni Malkin aging, they seem to lack that consistent cog on offense. LEAN RANGERS -1.5 (+195) for a half unit.

Over/Under

This one could go either way. The Over is 8-2 in the last 10 games between these teams. The Over is 21-7-5 in the last 33. Despite their struggles, the Pens have averaged 3.1 goals per game in the last 9 — excluding their 11-goal barrage against Detroit. The Rangers have averaged 3.2 goals per game in the last 10. It’ll be close but, LEAN to the OVER 5.5 (-125).

Colorado Avalanche at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Colorado Avalanche at Pittsburgh Penguins odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Colorado Avalanche (49-14-6) square off against the Pittsburgh Penguins (41-19-10) Tuesday in the second half of home-and-home at PPG Paints Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Avalanche vs. Penguins odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

Colorado defended home ice in a 3-2 thriller over these Pens at Ball Arena Saturday. Avs D Devon Toews scored the winning goal with under five minutes remaining. The Avalanche have won four of five and eight of 10.

The Penguins need this game as they’re jockeying for playoff positioning. Pittsburgh has lost four of their last six games in what is the toughest part of their schedule of the season. Six of their last 10 outings have been against playoff teams, and a seventh was against the surging Buffalo Sabres.

Avalanche at Penguins odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Avalanche -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Penguins -115 (bet $115 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Avalanche +1.5 (-290) | Penguins -1.5 (+200)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: +100 | U: -125)

Avalanche at Penguins projected goalies

Darcy Kuemper (32-9-3, 2.37 GAA, .925 SV%, 5 SO) vs. Tristan Jarry (33-15-6, 2.34 GAA, .921 SV%, 4 SO)

Kuemper has been great and has allowed 3 goals or fewer in eight straight games. He stopped 38 of 40 shots he saw against the Pens Saturday, and he should keep the Avs in this game.

Jarry has to be better than he was down the stretch last year for the Pens to do anything in the postseason. He has allowed 13 goals in the last four games, including three on 38 shots to these Avs Saturday. He needs to make a statement here.

[tipico]

Avalanche at Penguins odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Penguins 3, Avalanche 2

Money line

Money is flying in on Colorado as they were at plus money earlier Tuesday, and it makes sense if you go strictly by the numbers. However, this is a game Pittsburgh needs more.

Colorado is also still without C Gabriel Landeskog and will potentially be without C Nazem Kadri again. The Penguins have won three of four in this series, and they should defend home ice. PENGUINS (-115) is the way to go.

Against the spread

Colorado and the insurance will cost you nearly three times your return, and Pittsburgh hasn’t played well enough to consider the puck line outside of the 11-2 victory they whipped out against Detroit. PASS.

Over/Under

Two of the last three games between these teams ended 3-2. The Avs have hit the Under in four in a row, and it’s 12-2-2 in the Avs’ last 16 against games teams over .500. The UNDER 6.5 (-125) is the way to go here.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (41-18-10) touch down in the Mile High City to face the Colorado Avalanche (48-14-6) Saturday at Ball Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (ABC/ESPN+). Below, we look at the Penguins vs. Avalanche odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Penguins are inconsistent. They scored 1, 11 and 2 goals in a three-game stretch before dismissing the Minnesota Wild 4-3 on the road in a shootout Thursday. Pittsburgh has won six out of its last 10 games with some quality wins against Minnesota, St. Louis and Carolina mixed in. You just never know with them.

The Avalanche are hurting, but they have so much talent that they’re able to continue rolling. C Nathan MacKinnon has missed some time, now LW Gabriel Landeskog is sidelined and C Nazem Kadri is questionable Saturday with an undisclosed ailment.

Penguins at Avalanche odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 10:35 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Penguins +130 (bet $100 to win $130) | Avalanche -160 (bet $160 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Penguins +1.5 (-190) | Avalanche -1.5 (+145)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -105 | U: -120)

Penguins at Avalanche projected goalies

Tristan Jarry (33-14-6, 2.33 GAA, .921 SV%, 4 SO) vs. Darcy Kuemper (31-9-3, 2.37 GAA, .924 SV%, 5 SO)

Jarry was great in March outside of a 5-goal outing against the New York Rangers on the 25th. He was 7-3-0 with a 2.32 GAA and a .923 SV% and allowed more than 3 goals in just two of those 10 starts. He’ll need to be great to pull off the victory in this one.

Kuemper has been just as good of late. He was 5-3-1 with a 2.05 GAA and a .940 SV% in March. The netminder allowed more than three goals just once in 10 starts last month. He’s fresh, too, as he has been off since Tuesday.

Penguins at Avalanche odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Penguins 4, Avalanche 3

Money line

The Avalanche have been vulnerable a lot lately, but they have managed to grind it out late in games for victories. If Kadri is out, that’s a different story. Look for Pittsburgh to rise to the occasion here for a playoff-esque road victory, and it may require extra time to do it. Take the PENGUINS (+130).

Against the spread

The Pens are 20-15 on the puck line on the road this season, but we can’t toss nearly two times our return here for just a little insurance. There’s no value here. PASS.

Over/Under

We mentioned that Colorado hasn’t been the same lately and its 2-8 O/U record over its last 10 is sheer evidence of that. Three of the last four meetings (none this year) have gone Over. The Over is 6-1-1 in the Avs’ last eight against the East. Pittsburgh has gone Over in four of the last five, and this one will be a fight to the finish.

LEAN to the OVER 6.5 (-105).

New York Rangers at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s New York Rangers at Pittsburgh Penguins odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Rangers (42-19-5) face division-rival Pittsburgh Penguins (40-17-10) Tuesday at PPG Paints Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Rangers vs. Penguins odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Rangers are rolling as winners of 4 of the last 5, including a 5-1 home victory against the Penguins Friday. This will be the 6th game in 10 days for the Rangers, and that’s something to be wary of.

Following the aforementioned loss to the Rangers, the Pens exploded for an 11-2 hedgeclipping of the Detroit Red Wings Sunday. C Evgeni Malkin had a hat trick, and he has lit the lamp 6 times during a 4-game goal streak. Pittsburgh has won 4 of the last 6, and the Pens will also be playing their 6th game in 10 days.

Rangers at Penguins odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 3:01 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rangers +145 (bet $100 to win $145) | Penguins -180 (bet $180 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Rangers +1.5 (-205) | Penguins -1.5 (+155)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: -120 | U: -105)

Rangers at Penguins projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (31-9-3, 2.11 GAA, .936 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Tristan Jarry (33-13-6, 2.31 GAA, .922 SV%, 4 SO)

The front runner for the Vezina Trophy, Shesterkin hasn’t played since Friday’s victory over the Pens when he stopped 20 of 21 shots. He has been a lot more susceptible of late as his 2.76 March GAA is his worst for any month this season. He has stopped 45 of 47 shots in 2 games against Pittsburgh this season.

The 5 goals Jarry allowed to the Rangers last week account for 25 percent of the pucks that have slipped past him this month. He has been fantastic with a 7-2 record, a 2.23 GAA and a 926 SV% in March. He shut out the Rangers Feb. 26, stopping all 27 shots in a 1-0 victory.

Rangers at Penguins odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Penguins 3

Money line

This is a tough one to project as both teams are evenly matched and playing fairly well. Both starting goalies have been confirmed. The Rangers trail the Pens by a point in the Metropolitan Division, and that urgency could be the difference – possibly in overtime.

Back the RANGERS (+145) for a HALF UNIT.

Against the spread

The Pens are 14-19 on the puck line at home this season, which gives a ton of pause against a strong team. The Rangers are 19-16 ATS on the road, and they simply need to keep it a 1-goal game to cover. That seems pretty reliable here, and it needs to be with the gallon of juice attached.

Take the RANGERS +1.5 (-205)

Over/Under

The Over is 18-5-3 in the last 26 meetings between the two. Both teams have played a ton during the last 10 days, and tired legs could lead to premium scoring chances on each side.

Take away the Penguins’ 11-goal outburst Sunday and Pittsburgh is averaging 2.9 goals per game in their last 10 outings, while the Rangers averaged 3.4 goals over the last 10. So, let’s roll with the OVER 5.5 (-120).

Pittsburgh Penguins at Tampa Bay Tampa Bay Lightning odds, picks, and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Penguins at Lightning odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (33-14-8) and Tampa Bay Lightning (35-11-6) clash in a battle of two of the top clubs in the Eastern Conference. The Pens and Bolts meet Thursday at 7 p.m. ET at Amalie Arena in Tampa. Below, we look at the Penguins vs. Lightning odds and lines and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

Pittsburgh lost three straight games from Feb. 17-24, but the Penguins have bounced back with two straight wins since. They beat the Rangers at home and are now playing the middle contest of a three-game road trip that opened with a 3-2 win at Columbus. The Pens enter this game off a three-game layoff.

The Lightning have not lost since Feb. 10. They’ve won five in a row since, and have scored an average of 4.60 goals along the way. Tampa Bay last played Tuesday at home, earning a 5-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators.

Penguins at Lightning odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 7 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Penguins +140 (bet $100 to win $140) | Lightning -175 (bet $175 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Penguins +1.5 (-180) | Lightning -1.5 (+140)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -102 | U: -122)

Penguins at Lightning projected goalies

Tristan Jarry (26-11-6, 2.33 GAA, .921 SV%) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (29-8-4, 2.27 GAA, .921 SV%)

Jarry struggled during the Penguins losing streak, but he stopped 27-of-27 in his last start (Feb. 26 vs. the Rangers). The 26-year-old netminder has a history of second-half fades, and his February (3.20 GAA, .901 SV%) makes that a legitimate concern as the Pens head into March.

Vasilevskiy is seeking his 30th win of the season, and that would make for five seasons in a row hitting that figure. The 27-year-old owns a .927 SV% over his last two starts. At home, he has yielded more than 2 goals in a game just once since Jan. 11.

Penguins at Lightning odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Lightning 4, Penguins 2

Money line

A Pittsburgh penalty-killing unit that owns a robust 85.8% mark on the season (third NHL) has shown a few leaks of late. And a normally average Tampa Bay power play has scored in three straight games overall and three straight at Amalie Arena.

The Bolts dominated the first meeting between these two, a 5-1 Tampa Bay victory Oct. 21. And the Lightning are 5-1 over their last six games against the Pens.

BACK TAMPA BAY (-175).

Against the spread

Five of Tampa’s last seven wins at home have been by multi-goal margins. Some bettors may want to tack a LIGHTNING -1.5 (+140) rider onto the above ML play.

Over/Under

With the offensive firepower spilling over the boards on both sides, the Over seems like a natural. But both teams can defend and have strong goaltending. A PASS would be best.
