The Philadelphia Phillies (65-43) take on the Seattle Mariners (57-53) Friday in the opener of a 3-game set at T-Mobile Park at 9:40 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Phillies vs. Mariners odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Phillies won 2-1 last year

The Phillies have hit a rough patch, losing 4 in a row and 6 of 7 before Thursday’s off-day. They lost 2 of 3 to Cleveland and were swept by the New York Yankees, both series at home, and they’re 7-13 over the last 20 games. DH Kyle Schwarber is back on a binge, hitting .375 with 3 homers and 6 RBIs in his last 5 games.

The M’s lost 2 of 3 to the Boston Red Sox, but they had a 4-2 road trip. Newly acquired OF Randy Arozarena is producing, hitting .316 with 1 homer and 2 RBIs in his last 5 games. Their trade deadline additions have helped steer the ship in the right direction.

Phillies at Mariners projected starters

RHP Tyler Phillips vs. RHP Bryan Woo

Phillips (3-0, 1.80 ERA) makes his 4th start and 5th appearance. He has a 0.76 WHIP, 0.7 BB/9 and 6.8 K/9 through 25 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 9 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 4 K in 8-0 home victory Saturday against Cleveland Guardians
  • Has never faced Seattle
  • Home/road splits: Away – 1-0, 0.90 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 in 10 IP; Home – 2-0, 2.40 ERA, 0.73 WHIP, 5.4 K/9

Woo (4-1, 2.35 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 0.90 WHIP, 1.0 BB/9 and 6.2 K/9 through 53 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 4 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 3 K in 6-3 win Saturday at Chicago White Sox
  • Has never faced Phillies
  • Home/road splits: Home – 2-0, 1.27 ERA, 0.61 WHIP, 6.3 K/9; Road – 2-1, 3.06 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 6.1 K/9

Phillies at Mariners picks and predictions

Prediction

Phillies 3, Mariners 2

Moneyline

Woo has been really good at avoiding hard contact. He has only given up 3 extra-base hits (no homers) to right-handed batters this season. Conversely, the damage has come from lefties, who have touched him up for 4 doubles and 4 homers in 105 at-bats. For Philly, Phillips has been awesome in his last 2 starts. He hasn’t allowed a run in 15 innings.

I’ll take the PHILLIES -110.

Run line/Against the spread

One prop that sticks out to me is TYLER PHILLIPS UNDER 1.5 WALKS (+110). He has allowed a total of 2 walks in 3 starts, and they came in separate starts.

Over/Under

It’s slated to be 86 degrees with a 3-mph gust blowing out to left-center. The M’s are 6-4 O/U in their last 10, and the Phils are 5-5. In a spacious ballpark without much wind and 2 pitchers that avoid hard contact, I like the UNDER 8 (-110).

Philadelphia Phillies at Seattle Mariners odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Philadelphia Phillies at Seattle Mariners odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Seattle Mariners (13-16) host the Philadelphia Phillies (12-16) Monday for the opener of their 3-game interleague series at T-Mobile Park. First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Phillies vs. Mariners odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Seattle snapped a 6-game losing skid and prevented a sweep in its 4-game series by beating the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 in extra innings Sunday.

Philly is 2-5 overall in the last 7 games and has lost 3 straight series but split a doubleheader with the New York Mets Sunday.

Phillies at Mariners projected starters

LHP Ranger Suarez vs. RHP Chris Flexen

Suarez is 2-1 with a 4.63 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9 and 5.8 K/9 over 23 1/3 IP across 4 starts.

  • Got a loss in his last outing Tuesday vs. the Texas Rangers 6-4, throwing 5 IP with 3 ER (5 R), 6 H, 2 HR, 2 BB and 3 K.

Flexen is 1-4 with a 3.10 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 5.3 K/9 across 29 IP through 5 starts.

  • Lost to the Houston Astros 4-0 Tuesday with 5 IP, 1 ER, 1 HR, 2 H, 3 BB and 2 K.

Phillies at Mariners picks and predictions

Prediction

Mariners 5, Phillies 1

Money line

BET MARINERS (-120) because Flexen pitches better at home and Seattle’s lineup hits better at home. The Mariners are 1st in both wRC+ (147) and BB/K (0.62) at home, 3rd in wOBA (.354) and 9th in hard-hit rate (32.0%), per FanGraphs.

I can excuse Flexen’s 1-4 overall record because he has a 3.10 ERA even though 4 of his starts have been against elite ball clubs in the Houston Astros (twice), Tampa Bay Rays and Minnesota Twins.

On the other hand, the Phillies are just 3-7 overall on the road, 8-13 overall vs. right-handed starters and have worse advanced hitting numbers against righties.

The MARINERS (-120) money line is my favorite wager in this game.

Run line/Against the spread

SPRINKLE on the MARINERS -1.5 (+170), if at all, because they could put this game out of reach vs. Philly’s weak bullpen, which ranks just 18th in xFIP, 25th in WHIP and 20th in hard-hit rate.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 7.5 (-110) because Philly’s lineup ranks 20th in wRC+ (94) and 22nd in hard-hit rate (31.0%) vs. right-handed pitching. Whereas Seattle’s lineup ranks 22nd in wRC+ (96) and 23rd in hard-hit rate (30.1%) against lefties.
