Jason Kelce breaks down why the Eagles should go for the NFL rushing record

Jason Kelce breaks down why the Eagles and Saquon Barkley should try and break Eric Dicerson’s NFL rushing record

The Eagles are 12-2, and just one win away from securing the NFC East with a win over the Commanders on Sunday. Along with weighing their options for the season finale based on the No. 1 seed is Saquon Barkley’s to break Eric Dickerson’s record of 2,105 rushing yards in a season.

Barkley has been adamant that winning the Super Bowl is the bigger goal. Still, one former Eagles legend believes the All-World running back should have the organization’s absolute support in pursuing this goal.

During his regular appearance on 94 WIP, Jason Kelce said he wants Barkley to break the NFL rushing record and that the Eagles should fully embrace the chase.

“I really want them to try and make an effort to get this record,” Kelce told Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie during his weekly in-studio Thursday 7:30am appearance on the 94WIP Morning Show.

“I think that, to me, obviously the Super Bowl is the pinnacle, the ultimately goal. But I think the rushing title record is the coolest record in the NFL and the fact that this offensive line, Jeff Stoutland and Saquon Barkley have a chance to obtain that is pretty remarkable.

“I think it would just be really awesome for Philadelphia to have that record…Listen, I think this is probably the week—don’t want to give up game plan, I don’t know what they’re going to do. But if you really dedicate to trying to get him a big day this week that can lighten the load for the next two games.”

Barkley has 1,688 rushing yards, 276 receiving yards, and 13 total touchdowns this season and needs to average 139.3 rushing yards per game in the next three contests to break Eric Dickerson’s record of 2,105 yards in a season.

The Eagles face the Commanders on Sunday, followed by the Cowboys and the Giants, at home to finish the regular season.

The Eagles (12-2) are locked into the upcoming NFC postseason but the divisional title that seems to change hands year-after-year is still up for grabs. Heading on the road to Washington, Philadelphia can claim it once again from last year’s winner, the Dallas Cowboys.

Even with a loss, the Eagles would still be in the driver’s seat but never say never in the NFL. The Commanders (9-5) sit right behind them and will push until the end to claim the NFC East for themselves.

Saquon Barkley, Eagles a huge challenge for Commanders

Saquon Barkley ran wild on the Commanders a few weeks ago.

Dan Quinn knows the Commanders’ defense has a huge challenge ahead this Sunday, facing Eagles running back Saquon Barkley.

In the first contest between the Commanders and Eagles (Nov 14), the Washington defense kept the Eagles out of the end zone in the first half. However, in the second half, the Commanders surrendered four consecutive Eagles’ scoring drives of 74, 76, 74, and 46 yards, resulting in 23 second-half Eagles’ points.

Barkley ran wild in the second half, finishing with 146 yards on 26 carries, two receptions for 52 yards, and two touchdowns.

“Like a lot of great players, he is at his best and has proven to be in the end of games. And so, we have to make sure the fit and the tackling on the fifth run is the same on the 25th run. And you have to be able to just continue to do right longer than them. And they’ve proven this year that they’re exceptional at staying at it, staying at it. And that takes a lot of discipline.”

Quinn was asked if he would rely on the veterans on his defense to stop the Eagles’ offense in the second contest.

“Yep. You go back and watch it for sure, you have to. And you want to point out the things that you liked. And then when you think about a game like this, when you’re in any division game, what do you need to stop doing? What do you need to start doing? And what do you want to do the same?”

The Commanders will have the addition of CB Marcus Lattimore, whom they did not have in the first game in Philadelphia. He should help in the pass defense this game.

The Eagles have won ten consecutive games and have a real shot at earning the top playoff seed, giving them a first-round bye.

But Quinn knows the Eagles are not overlooking the Commanders. He also realizes the Eagles’ offense will include a few new looks.

“Each division game, both sides, there’s some new things that neither team has shown. So, that will happen. It’s not like a rinse and repeat, here’s the game plan. You dust it off and put it up in front of everyone. All teams are changing, and things are different and matchups are there. That’s what’s kind of part of the fun of playing the second time.’

Former Steelers QB frustrated by botched plays in Week 15 loss

Ben Roethlisberger voices his frustrations over the Steelers’ Week 15 loss to the Eagles, pointing to key moments that sealed their fate.

While watching the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 15 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, one legendary Steelers quarterback shared the disappointment felt by much of the Black and Gold faithful.

Former Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, while discussing Pittsburgh’s loss in Week 15 with co-host Spencer Te’o on his podcast, Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, revealed the specific plays he deemed game “killers.”

Big Ben expressed frustrations with areas of the Steelers’ offense that fans have collectively agreed need improvement: finding a reliable WR2 and avoiding slow starts in the first half.

Roethlisberger highlighted a few plays in particular that he believed were “killers” for any hope of a late-game comeback against the Eagles in Week 15: “Najee fumbling the toss sweep—that was a killer.” He then pointed to what he argued was an even greater misstep: “I think one of the killers was Coach T punting on like the 47ish [yard line]. They never got the ball back.”

While the Pittsburgh Steelers’ overall performance was rough in Week 15, is Roethlisberger correct in his analysis that Harris and head coach Mike Tomlin’s “killer” plays sealed the Black and Gold’s loss?

Commanders RB Brian Robinson on facing Eagles: ‘We feel like we are the better team’

Washington running back Brian Robinson says the Commanders feel like they are better team than the Philadelphia Eagles

The Commanders will host the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16, in a game that could give Nick Sirianni’s team a division title with the win.

Washington is looking to break a three-game losing streak at home to Philadelphia. On Wednesday, a starting running back provided some bulletin board materials. Brian Robinson played a key role in the first matchup and, during a radio appearance, said that the Commanders feel like they are the better team.

In Week 11, Saquon Barkley set the tone and threw the knockout punches, rushing 26 times for 146 yards (5.6 avg) and two explosive touchdown runs. Barkley scored 23 yards and 39 yards on plays to put Philadelphia up 26-10 before a late touchdown to Zach Ertz.

Midway through the third quarter, running back Austin Ekeler had six catches for 81 yards, while Terry McLaurin, Dyami Brown, and Noah Brown had combined for one catch for 4 yards as a wide receiver group. Overall, Quinyon Mitchell, Darius Slay, and Cooper DeJaean held McLaurin to one catch for ten yards.

Najee Harris shocked to learn NFL blamed wrong player for his fumble

Najee Harris defends Russell Wilson after NFL credits him with costly fumble, taking full responsibility for the turnover.

Many would assume RB Najee Harris is a massive fan of NFL statistics—after all—it credited a different player with his costly fumble from Week 15’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

However, Harris isn’t looking to shift the blame, and he certainly isn’t happy that the NFL credited the Pittsburgh Steelers’ signal caller for the turnover.

While speaking to reporters on Wednesday—in the build-up to Week 16’s AFC North showdown—Harris was asked his opinion on the NFL crediting QB Russell Wilson with the fumble.

Surprised but smiling, Harris questioned the decision itself: “I wasn’t? That’s crazy.” His attitude quickly took a more serious tone as the running back told reporters, “The stat sheet may say that—but nobody believes that. That was all on me. I don’t know why they put that on Russ.”

While admirable in defense of his teammate and his ability to fault himself for the game-changing turnover, it doesn’t change the narrative—Harris may have lost his team the game in Week 15.

Eagles open the practice window for Bryce Huff ahead of game vs. Commanders

Philadelphia Eagles open the practice window for Bryce Huff ahead of Week 16 game vs. Washington Commanders

The Eagles have the NFL’s No. 1 defense, and their already dominant pass rusher, Bryce Huff, will be healthy for the stretch run.

Philadelphia announced that the pass rusher would have his practice window opened after missing.

Huff was placed on IR after undergoing a procedure on his ailing wrist.

Huff was initially diagnosed with a hand injury that significantly limited his playing time in their win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Due to the issue, he only played a handful of snaps.

A major free agent acquisition who signed a three-year, $51 million contract last spring, Huff had appeared ten games, logging five tackles, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble, 11 quarterback hurries, one quarterback hit, and 14 quarterback pressures in 154 pass rush snaps for the Eagles before the injury.

With Huff struggling off the edge, Philadelphia relied on Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, and Nolan Smith to provide pressure.

With Graham on IR, Huff could carve out a role behind Smith.

Watch referee give Steelers HC Mike Tomlin nonsense excuse on penalties

We got a little more insight into the unusual call in last week’s Steelers game.

Early on in the Pittsburgh Steelers loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the officials got involved and it felt a lot like home cooking for the Eagles. On an early red zone play, Steelers offensive tackle Broderick Jones engaged with Philadelphia cornerback Darius Slay and walked him back into the stands like a scene out of The Blind Side. Slay took exception and a scrum ensued.

When the dust settled, the officials chose to throw two flags. But instead of offsetting penalties as is normally the case when both sides are throwing punches, all flags went to the Steelers. This was in spite of a clear view of multiple Eagles throwing punches.

Head coach Mike Tomlin wanted some clarification from the officials and we got to hear it straight from them on Tuesday’s episode of Hard Knocks. And spoiler alert: It’s ridiculous.

Ultimately, it’s impossible to know how much this interaction impacted the outcome of the game. The Steelers fell to the Eagles 27-13, however, the Steelers still secured a spot in the playoffs.
