Height: 6-4 / Weight: 312

Class: Redshirt Junior

Hometown: Wisner (La.)

High School: Neville High School

HS ranking (247Sports): 4-star / No. 101 overall / No. 7 DT / No. 4 LA

HS ranking (Rivals): 4-star / No. 151 overall / No. 10 DT / No. 4 LA

Analysis: Phidarian Mathis is one of the most experienced defensive linemen on Alabama’s roster. The fourth-year player has played in 27 career games for the Crimson Tide, including 12 games (two starts) last season.

The 6-foot-4, 312-pounder doesn’t offer much as far as getting after the quarterback, but he’s an excellent rotational defensive lineman who can play on early downs at several spots, including defensive end and nose tackle.

If any player along the defensive front would be considered the “fourth lineman” behind the starting trio of Christian Barmore, LaBryan Ray and DJ Dale, it would be Mathis. Expect him to continue to make an impact for the defense.

Alabama redshirt junior Phidarian Mathis is a name fans should be familiar with, as he earned his first two career starts late last season against Auburn in the Iron Bowl and Michigan in the Citrus Bowl.

The responsibilities that Mathis will carry moving forward now involve a beautiful, brand new baby girl named Khylei Rae Mathis! On Saturday, the Louisiana native shared the news via his Twitter account:

Little Khylei Rae was born on Feb. 22 at approximately 10:17 a.m. CT, and even former Alabama standout defensive lineman Raekwon Davis had to chime in and show his appreciation for her middle name:

The video in the tweet shows Mathis cutting his daughters umbilical cord.

He hash-tagged himself with a new nickname for himself too: “Poppa Philly”.

Well, Poppa Philly, all of us here at Roll Tide Wire congratulate you on this very exciting moment, and we are thrilled to see you tackle fatherhood in the same way you tackle being a member of the Crimson Tide! In other words, congratulations!
