2021 Bermuda Championship matchups and PGA Tour prop bets picks

Assessing the PGA Tour odds for the 2021 Bermuda Championship, with golf picks and predictions for the top matchups and prop bets.

The PGA Tour returns to the British overseas territory of Bermuda for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Club in Southampton, Bermuda. Below, we’ll look for the best value prop bets in the 2021 Butterfield Bermuda Championship odds, with matchups, placings and first-round leader PGA Tour picks and predictions.

We have 132 players heading to the island, with 65 players playing into the weekend after the cut. Port Royal GC is one of the shortest layouts on the PGA Tour at just 6,826 yards, so big hitters aren’t necessarily the big dogs here. Those with accuracy off the tee reign supreme. With the short length and rather easy approaches, expect plenty of low scores.

Focus on players with strong putting ability as those who fare well on the TifEagle-Bermuda putting surfaces will make a big difference on the leaderboard.

Brian Gay who’s ranked No. 418 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, is the defending champion in Bermuda. Wyndham Clark was second (No. 192) and Ollie Schniederjans was third (No. 456) at this event last season, proving that anybody has a chance.

For Thursday tee times and TV info, head to Golfweek.com.

While it isn’t a great sample size, Stephan Jaeger has averaged 26.63 putts per round to date, while Nick Taylor averages 27.30. In 2020, Patrick Reed was second on the Tour with 27.81 putts per round, a much bigger sample size. Peter Malnati was tied for 10th in putts per round at 28.25 last season.

2021 Bermuda Championship picks: Placings

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday at 7:33 p.m. ET.

Top 20: Stephan Jaeger (+230)

As mentioned above, Jaeger is a very good putter. I think he’ll be able to challenge for a spot in the top 20 due to his work on the greens. The only concern for me is his lack of driving accuracy so far this season. Still, I like the Korn Ferry Tour overall points leader and Player of the Year candidate to make some noise in Bermuda.

Top 20: Brian Stuard (+280)

Stuard is amazingly accurate off the tee, ranking third last season hitting 1,063 of a possible 1,450 fairways, good for a 73.31 percentage. While he missed the cut at this event last year, he posted a first-round 67, so he showed he has the tools to succeed at this course.

In addition, Stuard is due. He has missed the cut in four consecutive events, but this short course with skinny fairways will be the elixir to cure his ills.

Top American: Patrick Reed (+1000)

Reed is one of the biggest names in this field, and he is fantastic with the putter. His work on the greens will really cut down the strokes and lead to some low scores. He and Matthew Fitzpatrick are the only golfers ranked inside the top 30 of the OWGR, checking in 21st. He should get off to a hot start.

2021 Bermuda Championship picks: First-round leader

Adam Hadwin (+4000)

Hadwin is a strong play to lead after the opening round. He is tied for 11th on the PGA Tour in first-round scoring average at 66.67. He tends to fire out of the box in tournaments and should have similar success on the shorter course at Port Royal.

2021 Tour Championship matchups and PGA Tour prop bets picks

Assessing the PGA Tour odds for the 2021 Tour Championship, with golf picks and predictions for the top matchups and prop bets.

The 2020-21 PGA Tour season ends this weekend with the $15 million first-place prize for the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. The top 30 golfers from the season-long FedEx Cup standings are in attendance for the finale. Below, we’ll look for the best value prop bets in the 2021 Tour Championship odds, with matchups, placings and first-round leader PGA Tour picks and predictions.

Patrick Cantlay begins the Tour Championship at 10-under par as the top seed in the FedEx Cup standings. Tony Finau, who won The Northern Trust two weeks ago, is second and starts the week 2 strokes behind Cantlay at minus-8. Jon Rahm, who’s No. 1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, starts at minus-6 from fourth in the FedEx Cup standings.

For full information on starting strokes, head to Golfweek.com.

Dustin Johnson will start the week from 15th in the FedEx Cup standings in his defense of the season-long title. Xander Schauffele was the low 72-hole scorer at East Lake GC last year.

2021 Tour Championship picks: Matchups (72 holes)

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday at 11:10 a.m. ET.

Xander Schauffele (-110) vs. Rory McIlroy

Schauffele and McIlroy rank 1-2 among those with at least 10 rounds played at East Lake GC in average strokes gained on the field per round, with 3.56 and 2.91 strokes gained per round, respectively. McIlroy is a two-time FedEx Cup winner, but Schauffele won here in 2017 and was the low 72-hole scorer last year.

McIlroy’s in better form off of a fourth-place finish at last week’s BMW Championship, but Schauffele’s course history can’t be overlooked. Schauffele (-110) is the pick in an evenly priced matchup with both golfers starting the week at minus-2.

Also see:

Joaquin Niemann (+105) vs. Corey Conners

Conners tied for eighth at The Northern Trust before a T-22 finish last week, while Niemann went T-47 and T-29 in the first two playoff events, respectively. The Canadian is 21st in the FedEx Cup standings and the Chilean is 24th, but they will both start at minus-1 Thursday morning.

Both are evenly matched off the tee; however, Niemann has been the superior putter over the course of the 2020-21 PGA Tour with an average of 0.44 Strokes Gained: Putting per round. Conners is averaging just 0.02 SG: Putting per round for the season and lost 0.17 strokes per round on the greens last week.

Take the plus-money value in Niemann (+105).

2021 Tour Championship picks: Placings

Top 5: Xander Schauffele (+350)

Schauffele is beginning the week 17th in the season-long standings and 8 strokes behind Cantlay; however, he’ll need to make up a modest 3 strokes on pre-tournament fifth-seed, Cameron Smith.

Given his record at East Lake, the 2017 Tour Championship winner can make up that difference within the first round.

PLAY: Our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Top American: Tony Finau (+450)

Rahm is the pre-tournament betting favorite with or without starting strokes despite beginning the week 4 back of Cantlay and 2 back of Finau. American Bryson DeChambeau starts at minus-7.

I’m fading Cantlay this week, as he has averaged just 0.31 strokes gained on the field per round over 12 rounds at East Lake. Finau ranks seventh among all players with a minimum of five rounds played at this venue with 2.06 strokes gained per round. He needs to make up just 2 strokes on Cantlay and enters with a 1 shot lead over DeChambeau.

Finau comes in third by the odds in this 18-man pool as an excellent value two weeks removed from his first win in five years.

2021 Tour Championship picks: First-round leader

Jon Rahm (+650)

The oddsmakers are clearly expecting Rahm to erase his 4-shot deficit over the course of the week, but there remains value in the FRL bet, where he’s fourth by the odds.

He began each of the last two weeks with a share of the first-round lead at minus-8 after going 64-68-66 over the final three rounds of the British Open. He has averaged 2.18 strokes gained on the field over his 16 career rounds at East Lake, and he leads all golfers with an average of 2.57 total strokes gained on the field per round for the 2020-21 season.

2021 Genesis Invitational matchups and prop bet predictions

Assessing the best PGA Tour prop bets for the 2021 Genesis Invitational, with betting predictions for the top tournament matchups.

This week’s Genesis Invitational at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, brings out the first major-like field of 2021. We’re less than two months away from the 2021 Masters and the PGA Tour schedule really kicks into gear. Below, we’ll look for the best value bets in the 2021 Genesis Invitational odds, with tournament matchups, placings and other PGA Tour prop bet predictions.

Eight of the top-10 golfers in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings front this week’s 120-man field.

2021 Genesis Invitational: Matchup bets

Odds provided by BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 9:26 p.m. ET.

Bryson DeChambeau vs. Tony Finau (+105)

DeChambeau has been the talk of golf – and golf betting – since emerging from the 2020 hiatus with his brand-new look and increased power. Since that time, he has two victories and six other top-10 finishes with just two missed cuts in 15 international events.

In that same time, Finau has no victories but nine top-10s against two missed cuts in 20 events, including back-to-back co-runner-up results coming into this week. He’s also more experienced at Riviera than DeChambeau with 20 rounds played to 13. He’s the safer play at plus-money.

Also see:

Justin Thomas vs. Rory McIlroy (-115)

Despite not winning on the PGA Tour or internationally since 2019, McIlroy still ranks ahead of Thomas in the Golfweek rankings. He’s also second in this field in strokes gained per round at Riviera at 2.26 to Thomas’ 1.39.

McIlroy tied for fifth last year while Thomas missed the cut for the first time in six appearances.

2021 Genesis Invitational: Placing bets

Top 5: Joaquin Niemann (+800)

Niemann finished second at both the Sentry Tournament of Champions and Sony Open in Hawaii.

He missed the cut in this event last year following a T-44 in his 2019 debut. His irons and approach game should be well-suited to this venue, and he’s tied for 11th on Tour in Bogey Avoidance this season.

Top 10: Russell Henley (+600)

Henley has never finished higher than 17th in this event, but he is in top form early in the 2020-21 PGA Tour season. He leads the Tour in Bogey Avoidance, is tied for 16th in Proximity to the Hole and ranks seventh in Par 4 Efficiency: 450-500 Yards.

He’s up to 19th in the Golfweek rankings and had six top-10 finishes last year.

Top Canadian: Mackenzie Hughes (+275)

Though it’s without an elite option or tournament favorite, the pool of Canadians at the Genesis Invitational has four golfers priced between +175 and +350.

Hughes is third by the odds while playing here for just the third time with two previous missed cuts. His current game should play well, as he is averaging 0.32 Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green and 0.49 SG: Putting per round through 24 measured rounds on the new season.

2021 Farmers Insurance Open matchups and prop bet predictions

Assessing the best PGA Tour prop bets for the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open, with betting predictions for the top tournament matchups.

The PGA Tour’s west coast swing continues with this week’s Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course just outside of San Diego, California. A strong field includes four of the top seven golfers in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings. Below, we’ll look for the best value bets in the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open betting odds, with tournament matchups, placings and other PGA Tour prop bet predictions.

The tournament will be split between Torrey Pines’ North and South Courses. Both play to a par of 72 but the North Course measures just 7,258 yards and the South Course is 7,765 yards.

2021 Farmers Insurance Open: Matchup bets

Odds provided by BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 5:06 p.m. ET.

Jon Rahm vs. Rory McIlroy (+105)

The marquee matchup of the tournament pits Golfweek’s No. 3 and 7 golfers against each other for the lowest 72-hole score. McIlroy’s coming off a third-place finish at the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, while Rahm was forced to withdraw from last week’s American Express due to a back injury.

McIlroy didn’t win last year, but he had a T-3 finish in this event and six other top 10s in 17 total events without a missed cut. Rahm, who won here in 2017 and finished as the runner-up last year, had two PGA Tour victories in 2020.

Both golfers have an affinity for this course, so take the value with McIlroy.

Also see:

Scottie Scheffler vs. Jason Day (-110)

Day, a two-time winner of this event, is a slight underdog against Scheffler, who missed the cut in his debut in this event last year. Day showed flashes of his former world No. 1 form last summer upon on the PGA Tour’s restart and finished the 2019-20 season with 0.26 Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee and 0.77 SG: Tee-to-Green per round.

That form with his driver and irons will play well at a course where he has had plenty of success on the greens.

2021 Farmers Insurance Open: Placing bets

Top 5: Gary Woodland (+1000)

Woodland missed the cut here last year following his 2019 US Open win at Pebble Beach Golf Links, but he was T-9 in 2019 and T-10 in 2014. He tied for 16th last week with a strong 0.90 SG: Off-the-Tee per round.

Place your legal, online 2021 American Express bets in CO, IA, IN, MI, NJ, PA, TN and WV at BetMGM. Risk-free first bet! Terms and conditions apply. Bet now!

Top 10: J.B. Holmes (+1600)

Holmes doesn’t have a top-5 finish on Tour since winning the Genesis Invitational in 2019, but he has finished sixth or better in three of his last six trips to Torrey Pines. He was T-16 last year with 1.59 SG: Putting per round and routinely putts well on the Poa Annua surfaces featured on the South Course greens.

Top Continental European: Francesco Molinari (+1100)

Molinari is third in this pool behind Rahm (-150) and Viktor Hovland (+350). We’re hedging against potential injury trouble for Rahm and Hovland’s inexperience at the upcoming 2021 US Open venue. Molinari impressed with a T-8 finish while gaining 1.33 strokes per round from tee-to-green last week.

2021 Farmers Insurance Open: Prop bet

Scheffler, Day and Koepka all to make the cut (+175)

Koepka seems to be the biggest risk in this parlay after missing the cut last week at PGA West. He was putting well but struggled on approach to the green and will play this event for the first time since 2017 while preparing for the year’s third major. Look for him to bring his best game to one of the PGA Tour’s most famous courses.
