Peter Queally vs. Kane Mousah co-headlines Bellator Dublin on Feb. 25

Peter Queally will compete in Bellator’s return to Ireland when he faces Kane Mousah.

[autotag]Peter Queally[/autotag] will compete in Bellator’s return to Ireland.

Queally (13-6-1 MMA, 2-2 BMMA) faces [autotag]Kane Mousah[/autotag] (13-4 MMA, 2-2 BMMA) in the co-main event of Bellator Dublin, which takes place Feb. 25 at the 3Arena, promotion officials announced Thursday morning. Tickets go on sale Saturday and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.ie and Bellator.com with a special pre-sale starting Friday.

Queally will look to rebound from his title fight loss to Patricky Freire in November. After stopping Freire in a non-title bout at Bellator 258 in May, the pair rematched at Bellator 270 in Dublin, this time for the vacant lightweight belt. But Freire exacted his revenge and stopped the Irishman in the second round to claim the title.

Mousah will also look to get back to the win column. The Manchester Top Team fighter has split his four Bellator appearances with wins over Mateusz Piskorz and Alessandro Botti. He’s coming off a unanimous decision loss to Davy Gallon at Bellator 267 in October.

The Bellator Dublin lineup currently includes:

MAIN CARD

  • Gegard Mousasi vs. Austin Vanderford – for middleweight title
  • Kane Mousah vs. Peter Queally

PRELIMINARY CARD

  • Davy Gallon vs. Charlie Leary
  • Darragh Kelly vs. Junior Morgan

Bellator 270 results: Patricky Freire knocks out Peter Queally to win vacant lightweight title

After a decade with the promotion, Patricky “Pitbull” finally got his hands on Bellator gold.

Another “Pitbull” is the new Bellator lightweight champion.

[autotag]Patricky Freire[/autotag], a long-time contender, finally got his hands on Bellator gold by stopping [autotag]Peter Queally[/autotag] in the main event of Bellator 270. Freire (23-10 MMA, 14-8 BMMA) put away Queally (13-5-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) at the 1:05 mark of the second round to win the vacant lightweight title.

It was a dominant showing by Freire at Bellator 270 on Friday from the 3Arena in Dublin.

In the first round, both fighters came out cautious, but there was still a good amount of action. Queally looked to stay on the outside and land leg kicks and keep his guard high. Freire was constantly pressing, mainly landing punches and attacking the body. It was a competitive round, but Freire landed the more significant shots.

In the second, Freire got eye-poked early. It took him a couple of minutes to recover after the referee halted the action. Right when the fight resumed, Freire swarmed Queally and clipped him with a right hand. Queally dropped to a knee and backed up. He tried to cover up the best he could, but the Brazilian was relentless in his attack. Freire backed Queally with strikes against the cage and forced the referee to waive off the fight while he was still standing.

[lawrence-related id=1563759,1561996]

Freire won the Bellator title after a decade of competing in the organization. He had fought for the vacant belt before but was stopped by Michael Chandler back in 2016. Freire picked up the title that his brother, Patricio, vacated last month following his featherweight title loss to A.J. McKee. Freire also snapped a two-fight losing streak with the victory.

Meanwhile, Queally saw a two-fight wining streak come to an end. He had defeated Freire in his previous bout via doctor’s stoppage. The Irishman is now 2-2 in his last four trips to the cage.

The complete Bellator 270 results include:

  • Patricky Freire def. Peter Queally via knockout (punches) – Round 2, 1:05 – to win vacant lightweight title
  • Patchy Mix def. James Gallagher via submission (guillotine choke) – Round 3, 0:39
  • Pedro Carvalho def. Daniel Weichel via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
  • Ilias Bulaid def. Georges Sasu via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 30-27)
  • Ciaran Clarke def. Jordan Barton via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 3, 4:11
  • Daniele Scatizzi def. Brian Hooi via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
  • Lee Chadwick def. Arunas Andriuskevicus via split decision (28-29, 30-27, 29-28)
  • Gokhan Saricam def. Charlie Milner via TKO (punches) – Round 1, 0:15
  • Nicolo Solli def. Bobby Pallett via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)
  • Danni Neilan def. Audrey Kerouche via TKO (punches) – Round 3, 3:58
  • Yusuf Nazokatov def. Stephen Costello via submission (heel hook) – Round 2, 2:24

Patricky Freire eager to disappoint Peter Queally in front of Irish friends and family at Bellator 270

It’ll be Brazil vs. Ireland for the lightweight title at Bellator 270.

[autotag]Patricky Freire [/autotag] loves the role of spoiler. It’s a position he’s been in for nearly his entire career, after all.

For the decade-plus since his Bellator debut in March 2011, Freire (23-10 MMA, 14-10 BMMA) has competed around the globe – never at home. He’s fought around the world, often paired up against a home-country fan-favorite.

At Bellator 270 on Friday, it will be no different. Set to headline the event in Dublin, Freire faces Ireland’s [autotag]Peter Queally[/autotag] (13-5-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) in a five-round lightweight fight for the division’s vacant title.

“I don’t have a pressure,” Freire said at a virtual pre-fight news conference Wednesday. “I always fight in front of another crowd, another place different from Brazil. Ten years, everywhere I fought. Japan, England, U.S.A. I’m from Brazil and never fought there.”

Freire and Queally competed against one another in a highly-anticipated showdown at Bellator 258 in May. The fight was called off in between the second and third rounds due to a cut sustained by Freire.

As he takes the rivalry between gyms Pitbull Brothers and SBG Ireland into account, Freire basks in the idea of sending the Irish crowd home unhappy.

“It’s great because I’m going to fight in his house in front of his family in front of his friends and his team,” Freire said. “I’m so happy for this opportunity to beat him in front of all of his friends and family and guys from his gym. I love this. … I don’t have pressure in this fight. This is a normal fight (and) just another fight. The difference is because it’s a rematch. I don’t care about the pressure. I think who has a lot of pressure is Peter Queally because he will fight in front of his friends, family, and he thinks about a lot of the fans. … I don’t know.”

Bellator 270 takes place Friday at 3Arena in Dublin. The main card airs on Showtime after prelims on MMA Junkie.

‘Bellator 270: Gallagher vs. Mix’ official for Nov. 5 in Dublin, adds ‘Pitbull’ vs. Queally rematch

As expected, bantamweight contenders James Gallagher and Patchy Mix will face off in Ireland, with the two set to headline Bellator 270.

As expected, bantamweight contenders [autotag]James Gallagher[/autotag] and [autotag]Patchy Mix[/autotag] will face off in Ireland.

Promotion officials today announced the two will headline Bellator 270 on Nov. 5 at Dublin’s 3Arena. MMA Junkie previously reported the planned matchup.

Additionally, the card features a key lightweight rematch between top contenders [autotag]Patricky Freire[/autotag] (23-10 MMA, 14-8 BMMA) and [autotag]Peter Queally[/autotag] (13-5-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA), whose first fight ended via doctor’s stoppage due to a cut.

Bellator has not held a show in Ireland since February 2020.

The first scheduled booking between the Gallagher (11-1 MMA, 8-1 BMMA) and Mix (14-1 MMA, 3-1 BMMA) was supposed to take place at Bellator 258 in May. However, Gallagher withdrew from the bout for undisclosed reasons. Mix instead faced UFC alum Albert Morales, whom he defeated via third-round submission.

After his win, Mix revealed that bad blood between him and Gallagher continued from the time of the cancellation until after the fight. Mix claimed Gallagher sent harassing direct messages on social media and mean-mugged him while at the event cornering his teammate Queally.

Gallagher, 24, rides a four-fight winning streak into the fight. Nine of his 11 wins have come via finish. He most recently competed in October when he submitted Cal Ellenor.

Meanwhile, Mix has won three of his four fights in Bellator including a 66-second submission of Ricky Bandejas. Eleven of Mix’s 14 wins have come inside the distance. His only career loss was a closely-contested decision loss to then-title holder Juan Archuleta in 2020.

More on this in a moment.

The Bellator 270 lineup currently includes:

MAIN CARD (Showtime, 5 p.m. ET)

  • James Gallagher vs. Patchy Mix
  • Patricky Freire vs. Peter Queally

PRELIMINARY CARD (MMA Junkie, 1:30 p.m. ET)

  • [autotag]Brian Hooi[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Daniele Scatizzi[/autotag]
  • [autotag]Jordan Barton[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Ciaran Clarke[/autotag]
  • [autotag]Audrey Kerouche[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Danni Neilan[/autotag]

After Bellator 258 win over one ‘Pitbull’ brother, Peter Queally turns attention to champ Patricio

“He needs to fight me now, and we need to settle this.”

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – With one “Pitbull” brother down, [autotag]Peter Queally[/autotag] is ready for the other one.

Queally emerged victorious against Patricky Freire on Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena after the cageside doctor stopped their lightweight bout because of a cut near Freire’s hairline that bled profusely. The result disappointed some fans and media because of how close the fight appeared to be heading into the third round.

One person who certainly was unhappy: Patricio Freire, the reigning Bellator 155-pound champion and other “Pitbull” brother. After the fight was waved off, he and Queally exchanged words.

During his post-fight news conference, Queally recounted what was said and also sent a message to Patricio.

“He was trying to claim it was an illegal elbow that (caused) the cut, but this is nonsense,” Queally told reporters. “I think he was just angry that I’d just beaten his brother, which is fine, but don’t be lying. I understand your emotional and things. But there’s something you can do if you’re angry about it – and that’s fight me. And that’s what he should do now.

“If he wants to back up and protect his name, he needs to fight me now and settle this thing. It’s one all. They beat my brother – he’s like my brother – Pedro Carvalho. Fair play to him, very tough guy, he knocked him out (in the lightweight grand prix), so I respect him for this. But I beat his brother fair and square now. That’s one-all Pitbull Brothers, one-all SBG. He needs to fight me now, and we need to settle this.”

[lawrence-related id=609142,609088]

The fight-ending cut was the result of a massive elbow absorbed by Patricky (23-10 MMA, 14-8 BMMA) after he took down Queally (13-5-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA), who didn’t stop striking from bottom position on both of Patricky’s successful attempts.

For anyone questioning the worth of his win, Queally said he thought he “narrowly” won the first round and “for sure” won the second before the fight was stopped.

In the end, Queally said the fight played out as he expected, and he believes he beat Patricky at his own game.

“I thought he would come after me and really want the fight and give me the fight I wanted. And he did, fair play to him,” Queally said. “But I knew I would be better than him at this kind of fight. I’m one of the very few people that can beat the ‘Pitbull’ brothers at their own game, which is biting down on the gum shield and going after each other. This is exactly how I thought it would go.”

Queally now has won two consecutive fights, but this was his first victory since a September 2019 finish of Ryan Scope.

You can watch his full post-fight interview in the video above.

[autotag]Sergio Pettis[/autotag] (21-5 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) claimed the bantamweight title from [autotag]Juan Archuleta [/autotag](25-3 MMA, 7-2 BMMA) in their main event clash, taking a unanimous decision at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Bellator 258 results: Conor McGregor training partner Peter Queally stops Patricky Freire in bloodbath

Patricky Freire was having success on the feet against Peter Queally, but a takedown in the second led to his demise.

[autotag]Patricky Freire[/autotag] was having success on the feet against [autotag]Peter Queally[/autotag], but a takedown in the second led to his demise.

Freire (23-10 MMA, 14-8 BMMA) put Queally (13-5-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) on the canvas late in the middle frame. But Queally hit Freire with three elbows from his back. The third sliced Freire open, and he started to bleed all over. In between rounds, with the cut still gushing despite the work from the cutman, the cageside doctor called the fight off.

Freire, brother of Bellator lightweight and featherweight champion Patricio Freire, was disappointed the fight was stopped. Queally, a longtime training partner of Conor McGregor, was elated – and said he thinks he should be in line for a lightweight title shot.

The lightweight bout was part of the Bellator 258 main card at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The fight aired on Showtime.

Queally came out gunning with kicks and punches. Freire stayed on the outside and fired back. After a brief timeout for Queally from a low blow, they came out firing again. Freire worked kicks to Queally’s lead leg, then kicked to the body again. They traded right hands, then talked back and forth. With 45 seconds left, after Freire tried a spinning back elbow and jumping knee, he went for a takedown and got it. But he ate a dozen punches and elbows while holding Queally down.

Freire put together perhaps his best combination of the fight midway through the second round when he threw a few up high, then finished to the body. But his face was bloodied up, and Queally continued scoring points with punches of his own. With 40 seconds left in the round, Freire again landed a takedown. There wasn’t a lot of time for him to work on top, but Queally landed a massive elbow from his back and sliced Freire open. The Brazilian bled all over the Irishman.

In between rounds, the doctor was brought in to look at the cut, and even though the cutman tried to plug it, it wouldn’t stop. With blood still flowing, the doctor waved the fight off for a TKO win for Queally.

Up-to-the-minute Bellator 258 results include:

  • Peter Queally def. Patricky Freire via TKO (doctor’s stoppage) – Round 3, 0:01
  • Michael Page def. Derek Anderson via TKO (doctor’s stoppage) – Round 1, 5:00
  • Raufeon Stots def. Josh Hill via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
  • Lorenz Larkin def. Rafael Carvalho via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
  • Patchy Mix def. Albert Morales via submission (arm-triangle choke) – Round 3, 2:40
  • Omar Hussein vs. Logan Storley* – scrapped due to Hussein failed medicals
  • Johnny Eblen def. Daniel Madrid via knockout (punches) – Round 1, 2:44
  • Johnny Campbell def. Henry Corrales via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 2, 4:12
  • Johnny Soto def. Weber Almeida via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-28, 29-28)

James Gallagher out of Bellator 258; Patchy Mix awaits new opponent

Patricky Freire vs. Peter Queally has moved to the main card.

Bellator 258 has taken a hit.

Rising Irish star [autotag]James Gallagher[/autotag] is out of his bantamweight fight against former title challenger [autotag]Patchy Mix[/autotag] for undisclosed reasons. The fight was scheduled for the promotion’s May 7 main card.

A promotion official confirmed Friday to MMA Junkie the matchup had fallen through after Mix (13-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) alluded to needing a new opponent. The promotion is actively seeking a replacement.

As a result, a scheduled lightweight fight between [autotag]Patricky Freire[/autotag] and [autotag]Peter Queally[/autotag] has been elevated to the main card.

“As expected the boy went f*cking running SMH,” Mix wrote on his personal Facebook page. “This (expletive) never wanted to be locked up in the cage w me,” he added.

Out of his last four scheduled fights, only one has gone through for Gallagher. Two fights (including this one) he withdrew from due to injury. A third was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. Gallagher, 24, is on a four-fight winning streak dating back to his lone career loss to Ricky Bandejas in August 2018.

As for Mix, he most recently came up short in a vacant title challenge unanimous decision loss to Juan Archuleta at Bellator 246 in September. It was only the fourth time Mix went the distance as a professional. The other 10 fights, he ended inside the distance.

With the change the Bellator 258 lineup now includes:

MAIN CARD (Showtime, 9 p.m. ET)

  • Champion Juan Archuleta vs. Sergio Pettis – for bantamweight title
  • Anthony Johnson vs. Yoel Romero – light heavyweight grand prix quarterfinal

Peter Queally relives wild comeback over Ryan Scope at Bellator 227

“The Showstopper” lived up to his nickname in September 2019 at Dublin’s 3Arena.

Fighters dream of nights like the one [autotag]Peter Queally[/autotag] experienced at Bellator 227.

The SBG Ireland competitor out of Dublin had the opportunity to fight at 3Arena. His hometown fans turned out in full force and were loud from the jump.

But his opponent, Ryan Scope, wasn’t just there to to play the role of jobber. Scope gave Queally everything he could handle and at one point seemed on the verge of winning the fight.

“The Showstopper” was not to be deterred, however. He dug down deep, rallied, and earned himself a TKO stoppage victory at 3:07 of the second round.

We’re nearly a year removed from that magical moment, and one thing is clear: The evening is still as special to Queally now as it was when it happened.

Now, thanks to Bellator’s “My Biggest Moment” series, you can catch Queally’s thoughts as he relives a thrilling night in Dublin. Watch the video above.
