3 players had workouts with Broncos on Friday

The Broncos worked out long snapper Peter Bowden and punters Jake Julien and Ty Zentner on Friday.

The Denver Broncos brought in three special teams players for workouts on Friday, according to a report from KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. The team worked out a long snapper — Peter Bowden — and two punters: Jake Julien and Ty Zentner.

Bowden, 23, played college football at Wisconsin. He spent time with the Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars this year but is yet to appear in a regular season game in the NFL.

Julien, 26, played college football at Eastern Michigan and competed with the New England Patriots at training camp in 2022 before landing in the Canadian Football League in 2023. He earned All-CFL honors with the Edmonton Elks after a record-breaking season in Canada this summer.

Zentner, 26, entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State in 2023. He has spent time with four NFL teams, playing in 10 games. In one game with the Los Angeles Rams earlier this year, he punted seven times for 281 yards. His career average in the NFL is 44.1 yards per punt (Riley Dixon is averaging 46.7 yards per punt with Denver this season).

Jaguars sign pair of OL to practice squad; release QB, LS

The Jaguars signed a pair of offensive linemen, Jerome Carvin and Dieter Eiselen, to their practice squad on Tuesday.

Jacksonville released long snapper Peter Bowden and quarterback John Rhys Plumlee from its practice squad in corresponding moves.

Carvin entered the NFL in 2023 as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee, originally signing with Kansas City. He was released from the Chiefs’ injured reserve that September but joined their practice squad this January, only to sign to the Chicago Bears’ offseason roster a week later.

Carvin spent the preseason with the Bears but was waived during 2024 preseason roster cutdowns. He joined the New England Patriots’ practice squad in late August and was released in October.

Eiselen, a native of Stellenbosch, South Africa, signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Yale in 2020. He spent two seasons largely on Chicago’s practice squad but was elevated to the active roster for three games.

Eiselen signed to Chicago’s active roster for the 2022 season and appeared in 11 games. He was released during the 2023 preseason and joined Houston’s practice squad, from which he was promoted to the Texans’ active roster to make 10 appearances.

Eiselen spent time on the Denver Broncos’ and San Francisco 49ers’ practice squads this season, before joining the Jaguars’.

Plumlee, a 2024 undrafted free agent, signed with Jacksonville’s practice squad following August’s preseason cutdowns, shortly after being waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bowden joined the Jaguars’ practice squad last Tuesday.

Former Wisconsin long-snapper Peter Bowden signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad on Tuesday.

The former Badger previously spent the offseason with the Green Bay Packers after signing as an undrafted free agent after the 2024 NFL draft. He was eventually released in late August after losing the battle for the starting long-snapper position.

Just a few months later, the Wisconsin product now has another shot in the league.

Bowden previously started 39 games at long-snapper for the Badgers from 2021-23. His college career was highlighted by being named a finalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award (for the nation’s best long-snapper) in 2023.

He is now one of seven former Badgers on NFL practice squads, joining Quintez Cephus (Los Angeles Rams), Matt Henningsen (Denver Broncos), Faion Hicks (Seattle Seahawks), Tanner Mordecai (San Francisco 49ers), Kendric Pryor (Cincinnati Bengals) and Hayden Rucci (Miami Dolphins).

Bowden will now await a promotion to the active roster with Ross Matiscik established as the Jaguars’ starting long-snapper. The team is currently 2-7 after a recent loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, tied with six others for the worst record in the NFL.

The Jaguars added two players and let another two go from their practice squad Tuesday, signing offensive lineman Dennis Daley and long snapper Peter Bowden and releasing linebacker Tanner Muse and running back Jake Funk from the unit.

A 2019 sixth-round NFL draft pick by the Carolina Panthers who has since played with the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals, Daley has appeared in 55 games and made 37 starts, 28 at tackle and nine at guard, over six seasons.

Bowden signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin this offseason and was waived during the preseason. He made 39 appearances with the Badgers in college.

Muse signed with Jacksonville’s practice squad in August after spending the preseason with the team. He was elevated to the active roster for three games and recorded one assisted special teams tackle against the Indianapolis Colts.

Funk joined the Jaguars’ practice squad on Oct. 1, was released from the unit last Tuesday and ultimately brought back on Wednesday. He was promoted to Jacksonville’s active roster in Weeks 7-8 but did not appear in either game.

Green Bay Packers release former Wisconsin Badgers long snapper

Green Bay Packers release former Wisconsin Badgers long snapper

The Green Bay Packers released former Wisconsin Badgers long snapper Peter Bowden last week, according to the Athletic’s Matt Schneidman.

This marks the second occasion the Packers decided to part ways with Bowden. The UW alumnus was released just two days into Green Bay’s training camp to open a roster spot for quarterback Jacob Eason.

Despite being re-signed a few days later, Green Bay ultimately elected to release the former UW specialist to open up roster spots for linebacker Chris Russell and running back Nate McCrary.

Both Russell and McCrary landed with the Packers as depth pieces following injuries on the 90-man roster. Still, Green Bay’s 53-man roster deadline is slated for Aug. 27 at 3:00 p.m. CT.

Bowden had been competing with former Super Bowl champion Matt Orzech for the starting long-snapper position. This move could signal the end of that battle.

The San Diego, California native served as Wisconsin’s starting long snapper from 2021-23. In 2023, his fifth year on campus, he was named a finalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award (for the nation’s best long snapper) after starting all 13 of UW’s contests.

He will continue to fight for a roster spot within the next week.

The Green Bay Packers re-signed former Wisconsin long snapper Peter Bowden ahead of their second week of 2024 training camp.

Bowden had previously been released to make room for an extra quarterback. He is now back at the team’s camp to compete with Matt Orzech for the starting long-snapper job.

Bowden had previously signed with the Packers after going undrafted during the 2024 NFL draft.

He is looking to start his professional career after three years as Wisconsin’s starting long snapper (2021-23). His college career ended after total 39 starts and honors including being named a finalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award (for the nation’s best long snapper) in 2023.

Wisconsin replaced Bowden’s presence on the special teams unit with a commitment Cincinnati transfer Cayson Pfeiffer this offseason. Pfeiffer joins the Badgers as an established player at the position, and was recently named to the preseason watch list for the 2024 Patrick Mannelly Award.

Bowden is one of now 34 former Badgers currently NFL rosters at this stage of training camp. His status and competition with Orzech are worth monitoring as the Packers continue their season preparation.

Packers bring back rookie long snapper Peter Bowden

The Packers brought back rookie long snapper Peter Bowden on Tuesday.

Peter Bowden’s roster absence lasted only one week. On Tuesday, the Green Bay Packers brought back the rookie long snapper out of Wisconsin.

Last Tuesday, the Packers released Bowden from the 90-man offseason roster to make room for quarterback Jacob Eason, who was necessary to sign while Jordan Love and the Packers negotiated a new contract and only Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt were available to practice.

Back in Green Bay, Bowden will resume his competition with Matt Orzech at long snapper.

Bowden went undrafted out of Wisconsin, but he was highly regarded in the draft process. Dane Brugler of The Athletic had Bowden — who participated at the Senior Bowl — rated as the No. 1 long snapper in the draft class.

Bowden was a three-year long snapper for the Badgers. He ended up being a semi-finalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award — given the nation’s best long snapper — in 2022 and a finalist in 2023.

The Packers also signed rookie cornerback Don Callis on Tuesday. Packers Wire will update as more roster news is known.

The Green Bay Packers released former Wisconsin long snapper Peter Bowden on Tuesday.

The move came just two days into Green Bay’s training camp began, as the Packers made the move to open a roster spot for quarterback Jacob Eason.

With Bowden’s departure, Green Bay is left with one long snapper on its 90-man roster: 2022 Super Bowl champion Matt Orzech.

At UW, Bowden served as the primary long snapper from 2021-23. He registered 39 starts at the position and was listed as a finalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award (awarded to the nation’s best long-snapper) in 2023.

Despite his release, Packers Wire notes that Bowden could make a return to Green Bay’s roster after quarterback Jordan Love inks a new contract. The 53-man roster will be finalized in August.

Bowden was among a hefty list of Wisconsin alumni on an NFL roster entering training camp, a list that includes All-Pro linebacker T.J. Watt, former Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson and legendary running back  Jonathan Taylor.

Former Badger football specialist showcases his Wisconsin knowledge in recent Packers video

Former Wisconsin long snapper Peter Bowden showcased his knowledge of the state of Wisconsin in a recent social media video from the Green Bay Packers on Friday.

In the video, Green Bay’s social team tests its rookie class’ knowledge of Wisconsin town names. While nearly every rookie in the video mispronounces the names, Bowden aces the test.

Despite being from San Diego, California, Bowden’s Wisconsin connections paid off during his tenure in Madison.

“All my teammates that I hung out with were from Wisconsin,” Bowden said towards the tail end of the video.

In April, the former Badger signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent after the conclusion of the 2024 NFL draft. He served as Wisconsin’s primary long snapper from 2021-23.

Bowden notched 39 starts at the position over a three-year period and wrapped up his final collegiate captain as finalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award, awarded to the nation’s most impressive long snapper, in 2023.

Former Super Bowl champion Matt Orzech is currently listed as the Packers’ No. 1 long snapper. Bowden will have a chance to win that job when training camp begins.

Wisconsin long-snapper Peter Bowden was signed by the Packers after the 2024 NFL Draft. Here is a closer look at what he adds to the team.

The Green Bay Packers have six undrafted rookies that they signed following the 2024 NFL draft on their roster. Given the Packers’ rich history of UDFAs not only making the team but eventually becoming impact players, let’s get to know each of these signees.

College Profile

Breakdown: Bowden was Dane Brugler’s No. 1 long-snapper in this year’s draft class. He had 358 career snaps on special teams with the Badgers. In 2022, Bowden was a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award and a finalist in 2023. On paper, it does look like Bowden could compete with Matt Orzech for the Packers’ long-snapper role. For what it’s worth, last season, Orzech had the third-lowest special teams grade among long-snappers from PFF–although the Packers do seem to like Orzech, particularly his big game experience as a Super Bowl Champion with the Rams. Perhaps the Packers view Bowden as an option at long-snapper beyond the 2024 season if they can stash him on the practice squad.

What NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein had to say: “Bowden has the experience for the job, but he will need to create better velocity to handle the duties of not only short snaps but long snaps as well. He’s likely a long shot to make an NFL roster.”

Rich Bisaccia on Bowden: “We’ve done a lot of work on him. We like Peter and I thought he did pretty good. He’s got good size, he’s athletic, he can move his feet. He’s working on the velocity of his snap. But I do think he’s going to have a chance and have an opportunity in the future to compete and play in the league.”
