Demarcus Riddick flips to Auburn, snaps Tigers’ five-star drought

He is set to be Auburn’s first five-star since they landed Owen Pappoe and Bo Nix in 2019.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] has landed his first five-star prospect at Auburn. Flipping linebacker [autotag]Demarcus Riddick[/autotag] from Georgia and Kirby Smart on Wednesday afternoon and beating out Nick Saban and Alabama in the process.

Stealing a recruit from your rivals is always sweet, but when it’s a player of Riddick’s caliber it’s even sweeter. If he signs with Auburn, he will be their first five-star signee since [autotag]Owen Pappoe[/autotag] and [autotag]Bo Nix[/autotag] in 2019.

Riddick is the No. 26 overall player and No. 3 linebacker in the 247Sports Composite ranking. The Clanton native is also the No. 3 player from Alabama.

He is Auburn’s 12 commitment of the class and their second top 100 player, joining quarterback [autotag]Walker White[/autotag]. Their class now ranks 27th in the country and 11th in the SEC.

His recruitment is exactly how Auburn can get back to competing for SEC Championships. While they have landed just two five-star prospects over the past five recruiting cycles, Alabama and Georgia both landed four last year alone.

That talent gap only increases over a four-year span and is a major reason why Auburn is currently riding a three-game losing streak against the Crimson Tide and a six-game one against the Bulldogs.

Riddick might not be the only five-star Auburn lands this year either, the Tigers are a finalist for [autotag]KJ Bolden[/autotag] and are pushing hard to flip five-star wide receiver [autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag] from Alabama.

Five-star Alabama commit to visit Auburn during Big Cat Weekend

Hugh Freeze is working to flip WR Perry Thompson from Alabama. Could he do it during Big Cat Weekend?

Big Cat Weekend is usually a make-or-break for Auburn when it comes to several key targets. This year’s event will be headlined by several top prospects, including a five-star Alabama pledge.

Sunday, Alabama commit [autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag] announced that he will be attending this year’s event that is scheduled to take place on July 29. The news is significant because Thompson has chosen Big Cat Weekend over Alabama’s recruiting event that is set to take place over the same weekend.

Auburn extended an offer to Thompson in January and has worked around the clock to change his tune about Alabama. Since receiving an offer from Auburn, he has visited a total of five times. He says that he has built a bond with the coaching staff.

“Really the coaches building a bond with me and making me feel like family,” Thompson said about Auburn. “Everything on campus just feels like home, it feels good. Oh yeah, we built a strong bond. Every day I come up to campus we can just connect and there’s a strong relationship there.”

Thompson is the nation’s No. 4 receiver and the state of Alabama’s No. 2 overall prospect for the 2024 cycle.

Auburn makes its pitch to 5-star WR Perry Thompson

Auburn is looking to pry Thompson away from Nick Saban and Alabama.

Auburn is once again looking to pry an elite recruit away from a rival. This time [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and Co. are going after five-star wide receiver [autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag], who has been committed to Alabama since June 24, 2022.

Thompson took an official visit to The Plains over the weekend, and the Tigers once again made their pitch to the Foley, Alabama, native.

“Hugh Freeze, cool guy, fun guy,” Thompson told Auburn Undercover’s Christian Clemente. “He wants me to come here, build a legacy. He pitched me as another DK, AJ Brown.”

The visit was his fourth to Auburn since the new staff took over as the Tigers continue to make up ground with Alabama.

“They’re right there,” Thompson said. “I’d say right there with Alabama.”

He is the No. 31 overall player and No. 8 wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 5 player from Alabama.

Thompson is coming off a dominant junior season for Foley High School. He caught 87 passes for 1,059 yards and nine touchdowns in 11 games.

The 6-foot-3, 202-pounder is planning to make a final decision a week before his high school season starts.

Auburn’s campus ‘feels like home’ to 5-star WR Perry Thompson

He has visited Auburn four times and is set to return for an official visit.

Five-star wide receiver [autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag] may be committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide but the Tigers have not stopped recruiting him.

In a recent interview with Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover, he spoke about Auburn’s continued efforts to recruit him.

“Really the coaches building a bond with me and making me feel like family,” Thompson said about Auburn. “Everything on campus just feels like home, it feels good. Oh yeah, we built a strong bond. Every day I come up to campus we can just connect and there’s a strong relationship there.”

When Thompson committed to the Crimson Tide back in June the old staff has not extended him an offer. [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and Co. quickly changed that, extending him an offer in January and making him a priority target.

Since then he has visited four times and is set to return to the Plains on June 16 for an official visit. He’s hoping it will give him a chance to see Auburn on a “day-to-day basis” and the coaches “outside of football.”

While Auburn is making a push, Alabama will not let him go easily, he has been to Tuscaloosa numerous times since committing and has an official visit with them set up for June 2.

It’s easy to see why both programs are prioritizing the 6-foot-3, 202-pounder out of Foley, Alabama. He caught 87 passes for 1,059 yards and nine touchdowns last season.

Thompson is the No. 28 overall player and No. 6 wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 3 player from Alabama.

Is Auburn still in the hunt for a four star Alabama commit?

“If I were to go somewhere else, it’d be Auburn,” four-star WR Perry Thompson said in a recent interview with 247Sports.

There are still over 250 left until members of the 2024 recruiting cycle officially sign their NLI to the school of their choice, and one Alabama pledge has made it clear that their in-state rival is still in the mix to sign him.

[autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag], a four-star receiver from Foley, committed to Alabama last June. However, since Auburn extended an offer to Thompson on Jan. 11, he has taken two visits to the Plains, most recently on Wednesday.

Auburn has made quite the impression on one of the state’s top players, and he made an astounding statement regarding Auburn to Auburn Undercover’s Christian Clemente.

“If I were to go somewhere else, it’d be Auburn,” Thompson said in a recent interview.

Thompson shared that the family atmosphere and the dorms are two of the reasons that Auburn is still in the mix, but after watching practice, Thompson says that he also likes how [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and [autotag]Marcus Davis [/autotag] utilize their receivers.

“Practice was nice, I like how they use their receivers like how they gameplan the offense and stuff like that,” Thompson said after watching practice. “I like how the bigger type of receivers, he makes sure they break down routes, make sure they get in and out of breaks and stuff like that.”

Thompson is the state’s No. 2 receiver for the 2024 cycle and is the nation’s No. 28 overall prospect. Cooper Petagna of 247Sports says that Thompson is “a Power Five multi-year starter at the collegiate level with the ability to contribute early due to his combination of size, speed, and athleticism.”

Recently offered WR and Alabama commit Perry Thompson to visit Auburn

Hugh Freeze and Co. are looking to pull off yet another major flip.

Auburn’s previous staff never offered four-star wide receiver and Foley native [autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag].

New wide receivers coach Marcus Davis fixed that mistake on Wednesday and Thompson is now expected to visit the Plains this weekend, according to a report by Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover.

The Tigers will have their work cut out for them to pry the prized 2024 receiver away from the Alabama Crimson Tide, who Foley committed to back on June 24, 2022, after visiting Tuscaloosa.

He is the No. 16 wide receiver and No. 94 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite ranking for the 2024 recruiting class. He is also the No. 3 player from Alabama.

Measuring in at 6-foot-3 and 202 pounds he was Foley’s leading receiver as a junior, catching 87 passes for 1,059 yards and nine touchdowns in 11 games. He also recorded two interceptions as a defender.

Auburn currently has two commits in the 2024 class, four-star quarterback Adrian Posse and four-star cornerback A’Mon Lane.

Alabama Morning Drive: Tide receives a pair of Sunday commitments

Nick Saban and Alabama certainly had a good weekend.

Good Monday morning, ladies and gentlemen! Welcome back to Alabama Morning Drive! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. And what a massive recruiting weekend it turned out to be for [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The good news started on Sunday afternoon when three-star athlete [autotag]Brayson Hubbard[/autotag] announced his commitment to Alabama. If that wasn’t enough good news for Tide fans, later Sunday evening, five-star defensive back Tony Mitchell also made his verbal pledge to the Crimson Tide.

Hubbard is a talented prospect who plays quarterback for his high school team but will most likely transition to the defensive side of the ball in college and play safety.

Mitchell is an all-world safety prospect who just a couple of weeks ago was receiving a lot of buzz in favor of SEC rival Texas A&M. It appears as if coach Saban and the rest of the staff in Tuscaloosa showed everything they needed to in order to secure Mitchell’s commitment.

Both announcements were made on Twitter.

Let’s take a look at a few other stories that Alabama fans need to be following this morning.

2024 in-state WR Perry Thompson announces commitment to the Crimson Tide

Alabama lands a big-time early commitment from an in-state WR with interest from some of Alabama’s largest competitors.

Yesterday, Perry Thompson, a 2024 wide receiver out of Foley, Alabama, announced he would be committing to the Crimson Tide.

Thompson’s commitment is interesting. Alabama was the first big-time program to offer him and he was quick to accept. However, he was reportedly receiving interest from the likes of Georgia, Clemson, Tennessee, USC and others.

It’s so early, in fact, that most recruiting ranking services have yet to give him any stars. Rivals is the only one with rankings for him and he has three stars. That will surely change soon

Nothing is guaranteed until ink hits the paper, but it looks like Thompson will finish out his final two years of high school and then join the program in 2024.

Hometown Foley, AL
Projected Position WR
Height 6-4
Weight 202
Class 2024

The announcement was made with a picture of him alongside head coach Nick Saban.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Crimson Tide as the program continues to hit the recruiting trail hard.
