Notable UNC target in 2024 class transferring to Prolific Prep

Paul McNeil, a notable in-state UNC target in the 2024 class, is transferring to Prolific Prep for his junior season.

Not only is it in the middle of a key month for recruiting, it’s also a time where multiple prospects look to announce their moves to different high schools and prep schools.

One of those prospects is a key UNC basketball target in the class of 2024.

Rockingham, North Carolina native [autotag]Paul McNeil[/autotag] announced this week that he would be transferring to Prolific Prep (Ca.) for this upcoming year.

McNeil doesn’t hold an offer from North Carolina but has already visited Chapel Hill and has had regular communication with head coach Hubert Davis in recent weeks.

McNeil previously dished on his visit to UNC and what his takeaways were.

“Man, that was good. It was like the practice was really intense. When they run, they run hard and have to make it in certain times. How they flow, how they get their shots in practice I really like how that was.”

McNeil is ranked the No. 16 prospect in the class of 2024 in the 247Sports rankings. He was ranked the No.1 player in North Carolina.

The 6-foot-6 guard has offers from Indiana, LSU, Florida State, Clemson, NC State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Missouri and more.

McNeil averaged 24.5 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game last season for Richmond (NC).

This should be an interesting recruitment to keep following with a move across the country set t

Hubert Davis, UNC want five-star prospect to visit

The UNC basketball program is hoping that this five-star guard will take a visit to campus soon.

The UNC basketball program is targeting some big prospects for their 2024 class and five-star guard [autotag]Paul McNeil[/autotag] is on their radar.

While UNC has yet to offer the talented recruit out of Rockingham, North Carolina, they are showing a lot of interest in him early on. McNeil has a total of 10 offers in his recruitment so far including from Indiana, Clemson, LSU, Florida State, NC State, and Missouri among others.

But the Blue Bloods are also after him.

McNeil told Rodd Baxley of The Fayetteville Observer that he’s hearing from everyone in his recruitment including UNC, Kentucky and Kansas:

Rockingham’s rock star on the court, McNeil has heard from “almost everybody” at Division I programs across the nation. Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina are among the heavyweights that have shown interest.

He also went on to say that Davis texted him recently and wants him on campus soon for a visit:

“He liked my game and wanted to get me on campus soon, so you don’t want to be cocky … you just stay humble and keep doing your thing.”

The 6-foot-6, 185-pound McNeil is ranked No. 20 overall, the No. 7 shooting guard, and No. 2 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

Five-star 2024 recruit dishes on visit to UNC

Five-star shooting guard Paul McNeil talks about his visit to the UNC basketball program and the latest in his recruitment.

Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program appear to be on the brink of landing a big recruit in the 2023 class as G.G. Jackson nears an announcement.

But as for future recruiting classes, Davis and his staff have their eyes on a few other big prospects including Rockingham, North Carolina native [autotag]Paul McNeil. [/autotag]

The 6-foot-6, 185-pound shooting guard has a total of six offers in his recruitment and is drawing significant interest from a handful of Atlantic Coast Conference programs like UNC, Clemson, Wake Forest and NC State among others. McNeil has been on UNC’s campus already and he talked about that experience with 247Sports recruiting analyst Eric Bossi.

Here is what McNeil had to say about his visit to UNC:

North Carolina: “Man, that was good. It was like the practice was really intense. When they run, they run hard and have to make it in certain times. How they flow, how they get their shots in practice I really like how that was.”

He also talked about what he wants in a program:

“I want to feel at home, and I want to feel loved. But I still want to get pushed hard as ever. I want to love the atmosphere and for coaches to really get at me and dig in me to make me better.”

As of now, there are no immediate plans for a decision from McNeil but the quotes above should be good news for the Tar Heels in this recruitment.
