Player grades: Cam Thomas scores 33 as Nets beat Pacers 136-133

Here are the Nets’ player grades for Saturday’s win over the Indiana Pacers.

The Brooklyn Nets visited the Indiana Pacers on Saturday and won 136-133. This was the fourth and final matchup between these two teams this season and the regular-season series is tied at 2-2.

For the Nets, Cam Thomas had 33 points and three rebounds off the bench while Patty Mills had 24 points and six assists. Day’Ron Sharpe had 20 points and 12 rebounds as Edmond Sumner had 20 points and seven rebounds.

For the Pacers, Tyrese Haliburton had 35 points and nine assists as Buddy Hield had 17 points and four rebounds. Myles Turner had 16 points and three rebounds while Oshae Brissett had 14 points and three rebounds off the bench.

In a game where the Nets rested eight players including Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, Brooklyn still had six players in double figures. Not much defense was played in this game by either team, but the Nets were able to limit the Pacers in the second a tad by allowing them to score only 24 points in the third quarter.

The Nets couldn’t hit many 3s, but they did win the rebounding battle 59-30 which includes 29 offensive rebounds. The Nets only had 19 assists as they were relying more on players like Thomas and Mills to hit shots off the dribble or guys like Sumner getting to the rim. Turnovers were an issue for the Nets, but in the end, the 25-11 run Brooklyn made from the middle of the third quarter to the beginning of the fourth quarter was huge.

Here are the Nets’ player grades:

In the end, the Nets pulled away in the third quarter behind Irving’s masterful performance and Toronto going ice-cold from the field. Here are the Nets’ player grades:

Nets player Grades: Tobias Harris, Sixers beat Nets in Ben Simmons’ return

Tobias Harris scored 24 points despite dealing with a hip issue coming into the game and an ankle injury during the game. De’Anthony Melton had 22 points on some impressive long-range shooting while Paul Reed had 19 points off the bench in one of the impactful performances of his career.

Tuesday’s game came down to the Nets being unable to defend the three-point as Philadelphia shot 16-of-32 on 3-pointers, or rebound the basketball (the Sixers had 20 offensive rebounds). Brooklyn could use some size in its frontcourt, but until then, here are the Nets player grades:

Here are the player grades for the Nets’ huge win over the Clippers:

The extension makes sense from a …

The extension makes sense from a scouting standpoint: Marks and his staff, including assistant GM Jeff Peterson, have been adept at identifying talent, particularly through the draft. This summer, the front office has shown its ability to put together a complete team: The Nets signed talented scorer T.J. Warren on a veteran’s minimum deal, acquired 3-and-D wing Royce O’Neale for a 2023 first-round pick in a trade with the Utah Jazz, re-signed Nic Claxton and Patty Mills on two-year contracts and took a flier on Edmond Sumner, a high-flying wing who has recovered from an Achilles injury. Brooklyn still has its taxpayer’s mid-level exception, which it can use to sign one or two more impact players.

Patty Mills returning to Nets on a 2-year $14.5 million deal in free agency

The Brooklyn Nets will bring back Patty Mills on a 2-year $14.5 million deal in free agency.

While the Brooklyn Nets are still dealing with the fallout of the Kevin Durant news of him requesting a trade, the Nets did make a move in free agency on Thursday at the opening.

They will bring back Patty Mills on a 2-year $14.5 million deal, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, and he will be bringing his sharpshooting back to Brooklyn. He averaged 11.4 points and 2.3 assists in 81 games, with 48 starts, and he also shot 40% from deep on 7.0 attempts. He is a very good floor spacer for the Nets for whoever is going to be on the roster when opening night rolls around in October.

Whether Mills will be spacing the floor for both Durant and Kyrie Irving remains to be seen, but either way, the return of Mills is a very good addition to whatever Brooklyn wants to do in their future. He is a good veteran, he works hard, and he is a guy who brings veteran experience to a Nets team in need of it.

Patty Mills declines player option for Brooklyn Nets, return possible

Reports indicate that Patty Mills has declined the final year of his player option for the Brooklyn Nets.

Thursday is the final day before NBA free agency, and veteran guard Patty Mills has officially declined his player option with the Nets.

NBA reporter Brian Lewis of the New York Post broke the news that Mills turned down his option.

Another report from NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski indicates that the former NBA champion, “hasn’t ruled out a return to the Nets.”

Mills turned down his $6 million option, choosing to test the free agency waters and possibly earn more money. The opportunity to talk with other teams gives Mills the option to earn more money, previous reports indicated that the guard is “likely” to return to the team.

The organization can pay Mills a maximum of $7 million per year, giving him a bump from $6.2 million.

Mills averaged 11 points per game this season, shooting an impressive 40 percent from the field.

Mills will absolutely garner interest from teams all over the league so if Brooklyn want to retain the talent, they’ll need to work on a contract offer for the backup point guard.

Kevin Durant not recruiting potential free agents like he has in years past

In previous offseasons, rival agents and players would tell you of Kevin Durant’s eagerness in talking to potential free agents. So far, that hasn’t been the case with him, sources say. Outside of Irving, the Nets’ most important free agent is guard Patty Mills, who still hasn’t decided on whether to exercise his $7.2 million player option. Around the Irving drama, the Nets’ environment has made it harder to keep and court role players, sources say.
