Twitter reacts to Bailey Zappe throwing three interceptions in first half

Patriots QB Bailey Zappe threw three interceptions in the first half against the Bills.

The New England Patriots haven’t completely blown Sunday’s New Year’s Eve game against the Buffalo Bills, but they’ve tried to in every possible with quarterback Bailey Zappe under center.

Zappe, who is 2-2 in his last four games as a starter, had a disastrous first half against the Bills, throwing 9-of-17 for 113 yards and three interceptions. The multiple interceptions even drew a reaction from Mac Jones, who was pacing up and down the sidelines during the game.

Granted, Zappe isn’t the only one struggling in this game. Bills quarterback Josh Allen also had an ugly showing in the first half with only 46 passing yards and one interception.

Yet, Zappe’s struggles is a reminder that the Patriots need a legitimate franchise quarterback to ultimately get the team back on track. They might have a hard time getting one, if they continue to win games late in the season. Last week’s win over the Denver Broncos knocked them out of the No. 2 spot in the 2024 NFL draft.

A win on Sunday could make things even more difficult for the team moving forward. Here’s what fans were saying on Twitter after an ugly first-half showing from Zappe and the offense:

Twitter reacts to Patriots’ Christmas Eve upset win over Broncos

Here’s what fans were saying on Twitter after the Patriots’ upset win over the Broncos.

The New England Patriots outlasted the Denver Broncos by a 26-23 score in a Christmas Eve showdown on Sunday.

At one point, the Patriots had a 23-7 lead, before the Broncos came roaring back. Nevertheless, New England was able to hold on in the end, courtesy of some late-game magic.

The victory came on a game-winning drive engineered by quarterback Bailey Zappe and the Patriots offense. Zappe went 25-of-33 on the night, throwing for 256 yards and two touchdowns. Demario Douglas was the team’s leading receiver in this contest, catching five passes for 74 yards.

However, it was the leg of Chad Ryland that won the night, after he gifted his teammates with a game-winning, 56-yard field goal as an early holiday gift.

There were plenty of reactions to this game on Twitter, and here are some of the best ones:

Twitter reacts to Patriots’ 27-17 loss to Chiefs

Here’s what fans were saying on Twitter after the Patriots’ 27-17 loss to the Chiefs.

The New England Patriots played the Kansas City Chiefs closer than expected, which most fans are considering a moral victory after Sunday’s 27-17 defeat.

It’s clear at this point that the vast majority of fans are wanting to see the Patriots end up with as high of a draft pick as possible. However, the only way to ensure that happens is for the team to keep losing football games.

For that reason alone, it shouldn’t come as any surprise to see Patriots’ fans applauding the team’s efforts, while also celebrating their defeat. The defense came to play as usual, but the offense couldn’t stay in the fight beyond the first half.

Injuries to the offensive line caused protection issues up front, and quarterback Bailey Zappe quickly unraveled down the stretch. There was a mix of reactions after the game with the Patriots now sitting at 3-11 on the season.

Here’s what fans were saying on Twitter:

Bailey Zappe continues hot streak with strong first half vs Chiefs

Patriots QB Bailey Zappe kept his hot streak going in the first half against the Chiefs.

The ongoing hot streak for New England Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe continued in the first half of Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

After putting on a quarterbacking clinic against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, the second-year signal-caller was lighting it up once again against the defending Super Bowl champions in Foxborough. He finished the first half of the game going 17-of-19 for 141 yards and one touchdown.

It has been an all-around strong effort for the Patriots with offensive skilled players like tight end Hunter Henry and wide receiver DeVante Parker making major impacts early in the game. The defense has also held up strong against Patrick Mahomes and an explosive Chiefs offense.

But Zappe has reinvigorated the team with his confidence on the field, along with his ability to minimize the backbreaking mental errors that have hurt the team throughout the season.

Patriots Twitter reacts to Jakobi Meyers’ ridiculous diving touchdown reception

Jakobi Meyers hauled in a ridiculous touchdown catch, and Patriots Twitter is losing its mind.

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers continues to make the New England Patriots regret letting him walk in free agency.

On Thursday night, he hauled in a ridiculous diving touchdown reception on a 3rd-and-2 from Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell. The touchdown put the Raiders up 14-0 on the Chargers in a primetime game.

Meyers signed with New England as an undrafted rookie back in 2019. He worked his way up from a roster bubble player to the team’s No. 1 receiving target. There was obviously a lot of disappointment when the Patriots didn’t value him like the Raiders did at the negotiating table. They let one of their best homegrown talents slip away.

Patriots Twitter was once again riled up after the highlight reel touchdown considering coach Bill Belichick essentially signed JuJu Smith-Schuster for the same base deal the Raiders offered Meyers.

So far, the Raiders have been major winners over the Patriots in that decision. Here are some of the best reactions on social media:

Patriots Twitter in shambles following Ravens signing rookie QB Malik Cunningham

Patriots fans were not happy with the team losing rookie QB Malik Cunningham.

The Baltimore Ravens signed New England Patriots quarterback Malik Cunningham off the team’s practice squad on Tuesday afternoon. In doing so, they reunite Cunningham with his former college teammate from Louisville, Lamar Jackson.

Cunningham was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in May. Aside from playing in the preseason, he did see limited action at quarterback with two snaps under center against the Las Vegas Raiders back in October.

The Patriots tried him at both the wide receiver and quarterback positions. However, they never seemed to be able to find a consistent spot for him on the roster.

Patriots twitter, in particular, had strong reactions to the Ravens prying Cunningham away from the team.

Twitter trolls Patrick Mahomes with Tom Brady comparisons after latest meltdown

NFL fans are trolling Patrick Mahomes for Sunday’s meltdown with Tom Brady comparisons.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes came unhinged after a late fourth-quarter offsides call by the referees wiped a miraculous touchdown play off the board in Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

Mahomes hit Travis Kelce with a pass just as he was coming free in the middle of the field. The legendary tight end then made the heads up play of lateraling the ball back to wide receiver Kadarious Toney, who ran for a touchdown that would have put the Chiefs ahead of the Bills, 23-20.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the play was called back after Toney was seen lining up offsides before the ball was snapped. That elicited an expletive-fueled rant from Mahomes on the sidelines and even during his meet-up with Bills quarterback Josh Allen at the end of the game.

“It’s tough to swallow. Not only from me, and football in general, to take away greatness like that, for a guy like Travis to make a play like that, you want to see the guys on the field decide the game,” Mahomes said after the game, via ESPN’s Jeff Darlington. “They’re human. They make mistakes. But every week, we’re talking about something.

“…To have a flag change the outcome of the game. I’ve never had offensive offsides called. If it does, they warn you. There wasn’t a warning the entire game. And then you make a call like that in the final minute? Another game, we’re talking about the refs. It’s not what we want for the NFL. It’s not what we want for football.”

Mahomes’ meltdown is drawing comparisons to former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Fans are pointing to situations where Brady handled poor officiating better than Mahomes, including this missed call in the 2019 game between the Patriots and Chiefs.

Here are some of the best reactions to Sunday’s game:

Angry Steelers fans think team was cheated vs Patriots on this call

Steelers fans think they were cheated out of this call against the Patriots.

Pittsburgh Steelers fans are still furious over the false start penalty called against long snapper Christian Kuntz late in the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s game against the New England Patriots.

The call came on a 4th-and-2 situation when the Steelers were attempting to punt the ball away. When watching the video, it looks like Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai jumped offsides early, but the call ended up going the other way on the field.

It was a big break for a Patriots team that had multiple mistakes on special teams throughout the night. This one, however, would have given the Steelers offense a new set of downs and another chance to put points on the board.

There’s no love lost between the Patriots and Steelers. So it didn’t come as any surprise to see Steelers fans taking to social media to call out the officiating in the loss.

Twitter reacts in shock as Patriots pull off upset win over Steelers

Patriots fans were stunned after the team knocked off the Steelers in Pittsburgh on Thursday.

The New England Patriots defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers by a 21-18 margin on Thursday night.

Quarterback Bailey Zappe had a stellar game in the shocking upset win, throwing for 240 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Not only was the New England offense led by Zappe, but it was also led by the stellar play of tight end Hunter Henry, along with wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster, who had a team-high 90 receiving yards.

The team was also able to find contributions from running back Ezekiel Elliott. The veteran rusher had 22 carries for 68 yards on the ground, and he added a receiving touchdown to his line as well.

New England’s defense made life difficult for Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who threw for 190 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Safety Jabrill Peppers came up with the takeaway and helped set up one of New England’s touchdowns.

Patriots Twitter was excited about the win, and we’ve compiled some of the best reactions from social media.

Twitter reacts to Bailey Zappe cooking Steelers defense for three touchdowns in first half

Bailey Zappe cooked the Steelers defense for 196 yards and three touchdowns in the first half on Thpurs

Bailey Zappe is cooking in primetime.

The New England Patriots quarterback finished a shocking first half against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football with 196 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Things started off fast with Zappe linking up with running back Ezekiel Elliott for a touchdown on the first drive of the game, before coming back with consecutive touchdown passes to tight end Hunter Henry.

Zappe-Mania is running wild in Pittsburgh with the Patriots down to their bare bones at receiver. DeVante Parker, Demario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte were all ruled out for the game. But that hasn’t stopped Zappe from lighting up a struggling Steelers defense.

Here’s what fans were saying on Twitter about Zappe’s incredible first half:
