The New England Patriots haven’t completely blown Sunday’s New Year’s Eve game against the Buffalo Bills, but they’ve tried to in every possible with quarterback Bailey Zappe under center.

Zappe, who is 2-2 in his last four games as a starter, had a disastrous first half against the Bills, throwing 9-of-17 for 113 yards and three interceptions. The multiple interceptions even drew a reaction from Mac Jones, who was pacing up and down the sidelines during the game.

Granted, Zappe isn’t the only one struggling in this game. Bills quarterback Josh Allen also had an ugly showing in the first half with only 46 passing yards and one interception.

Yet, Zappe’s struggles is a reminder that the Patriots need a legitimate franchise quarterback to ultimately get the team back on track. They might have a hard time getting one, if they continue to win games late in the season. Last week’s win over the Denver Broncos knocked them out of the No. 2 spot in the 2024 NFL draft.

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers continues to make the New England Patriots regret letting him walk in free agency.

On Thursday night, he hauled in a ridiculous diving touchdown reception on a 3rd-and-2 from Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell. The touchdown put the Raiders up 14-0 on the Chargers in a primetime game.

Meyers signed with New England as an undrafted rookie back in 2019. He worked his way up from a roster bubble player to the team’s No. 1 receiving target. There was obviously a lot of disappointment when the Patriots didn’t value him like the Raiders did at the negotiating table. They let one of their best homegrown talents slip away.

Patriots Twitter was once again riled up after the highlight reel touchdown considering coach Bill Belichick essentially signed JuJu Smith-Schuster for the same base deal the Raiders offered Meyers.

Patriots fans were not happy with the team losing rookie QB Malik Cunningham.

The Baltimore Ravens signed New England Patriots quarterback Malik Cunningham off the team’s practice squad on Tuesday afternoon. In doing so, they reunite Cunningham with his former college teammate from Louisville, Lamar Jackson.

Cunningham was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in May. Aside from playing in the preseason, he did see limited action at quarterback with two snaps under center against the Las Vegas Raiders back in October.

The Patriots tried him at both the wide receiver and quarterback positions. However, they never seemed to be able to find a consistent spot for him on the roster.

NFL fans are trolling Patrick Mahomes for Sunday’s meltdown with Tom Brady comparisons.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes came unhinged after a late fourth-quarter offsides call by the referees wiped a miraculous touchdown play off the board in Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

Mahomes hit Travis Kelce with a pass just as he was coming free in the middle of the field. The legendary tight end then made the heads up play of lateraling the ball back to wide receiver Kadarious Toney, who ran for a touchdown that would have put the Chiefs ahead of the Bills, 23-20.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the play was called back after Toney was seen lining up offsides before the ball was snapped. That elicited an expletive-fueled rant from Mahomes on the sidelines and even during his meet-up with Bills quarterback Josh Allen at the end of the game.

“It’s tough to swallow. Not only from me, and football in general, to take away greatness like that, for a guy like Travis to make a play like that, you want to see the guys on the field decide the game,” Mahomes said after the game, via ESPN’s Jeff Darlington. “They’re human. They make mistakes. But every week, we’re talking about something.

“…To have a flag change the outcome of the game. I’ve never had offensive offsides called. If it does, they warn you. There wasn’t a warning the entire game. And then you make a call like that in the final minute? Another game, we’re talking about the refs. It’s not what we want for the NFL. It’s not what we want for football.”

Mahomes’ meltdown is drawing comparisons to former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
