The Alabama softball team advanced to yet another Women’s College World Series on Sunday afternoon after defeating the Northwestern Wildcats 3-2 from Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Once again the pitching duo of Jaala Torrence and Montana Fouts helped secure the victory for the Crimson Tide who is now advancing to its 14th WCWS in program history.

After a one-hour lightning delay at the bottom of the third, two singles and a walk quickly loaded the bases for Alabama senior catcher Ally Shipmen who would hit a two-run single to give Alabama the lead.

Jenna Johnson hit a solo home run in the fifth to extend the Tide lead to 3-1. A one-out solo home run from Maeve Nelson of Northwestern cut the lead to one but a groundout and strikeout sealed the victory to send the Tide to OKC.

Next up for Alabama is a matchup with SEC foe, Tennessee in OKC on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. CT.

Until then, let’s enjoy some of the top images from Alabama’s emotional win over Northwestern on Sunday!

In a must-win scenario, Patrick Murphy and the Alabama softball came through against the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday night with a 2-1 victory from inside a rocking Rhoads Stadium.

The dynamic duo of Jaala Torrence and Montana Fouts from the mound helped keep the Crimson Tide in the contest. Torrence and Fouts combined for seven innings of work surrending just seven hits and one run against the Wildcats.

Senior Ashley Prange and freshmen Larissa Preuitt came through for the Tide in the top of the seventh to break the 1-1 tie with Prange driving Preuitt in with an RBI double.

Alabama and Northwestern will compete in the decisive game three on Sunday afternoon with the winner advancing to the Women’s College World Series.

Let’s take a look at some of the top images from Alabama’s win on Saturday night!

How to watch Alabama softball vs. Northwestern on Saturday

Alabama softball is now in must-win mode on Saturday night in the NCAA Tournament Super Regionals against Northwestern!

Patrick Murphy and the Alabama softball team have entered must-win mode following Friday night’s 3-1 loss to the Northwestern Wildcats in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama turned to Montana Fouts on Friday night, but some early errors from both Fouts and the other infielders led to two of the Wildcats’ scores. Fouts threw 3.1 innings in her return from a knee injury and Jaala Torrence would replace her and deliver 3.2 scoreless innings of work from the mound.

Outside of Ashley Prange, the Alabama offense could not muster much success from the plate.

Alabama will need to win on Saturday night to force a game three on Sunday. Here is how you can catch Saturday night’s action from Tuscaloosa!

Patrick Murphy on Montana Fouts: ‘She’s our version of Tua’

Montana Fouts has been a leader for Alabama softball since she arrived in Tuscaloosa and head coach Patrick Murphy offers high praise for the pitcher.

Alabama softball pitcher Montana Fouts has enough accolades to divide among five players and have all five lead successful careers. She’s been a star not just for the Crimson Tide, but has been a national representative for the sport.

Her success and leadership at Alabama have assisted the program in more ways than imaginable. Head coach Patrick Murphy understands how important she is and has been to the team, the program and the game.

In the SEC Tournament, Fouts suffered a leg injury and has not been able to play since. There’s no clarity as to whether or not she will be able to pitch again this postseason.

During recent media availability, Murphy talked about Fouts and had nothing but extremely positive things to say about the graduate student pitcher. He even compared her to former Crimson Tide star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

“I’ve said it before. She’s our version of Tua. I don’t know how else to describe it. She’s just one of those once-in-a-lifetime kids.”

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama softball as the postseason continues for the Crimson Tide.

Fans are livid after Alabama Softball earns No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament

Social media melts down reacting to Alabama Softball earning the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament

The NCAA Softball Tournament bracket was unveiled on Sunday, and to the surprise of many, Alabama softball earned the No. 5 overall seed in the tournament. The Crimson Tide is certainly one of the best teams in the country, but in the final poll that was posted on May 8, they were ranked No. 13.

Since that ranking was released, Alabama was defeated in the SEC Tournament semi-final by the Tennessee Volunteers, and their star pitcher, Montana Fouts, suffered an injury with the extent of it unknown. The Tide was also the No. 5 seed in the SEC Tournament, so for them to earn the same exact seed in the NCAA Tourney threw people for a loop.

Patrick Murphy led the Tide to a title in 2012 and is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the game. His squad finished the regular season at 40-18 and enters the tournament ranked behind only Oklahoma, UCLA, Florida State and Tennessee.

Social media did not take to kindly to the fact Alabama earned the No. 5 seed.

Alabama softball earns the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament

Crimson Tide softball set to host a regional final starting this Friday

The Alabama softball program is once again set to host an NCAA regional this Friday. The Crimson Tide enter the tournament as the No. 5 overall seed and will host Central Arkansas, Middle Tennessee and LIU.

It was a rather fortunate draw for the Tide, especially after losing star pitcher Montana Fouts to an injury during the SEC Tournament. The extent of Fouts’ injury is unknow; Alabama head coach, Patrick Murphy said there is no update on her condition.

The Tide were knocked out of the SEC Tournament by their bitter rivals, the Tennessee Volunteers. The Vols beat South Carolina for the SEC tournament title and head into postseason play with an outstanding record of 44-8. As for Murphy’s squad, it enters the tournament 40-18 overall and 14-10 in the SEC.

Alabama is ready to make a postseason run, but if it wants to make a run at the national title it will have to go through No. 4 seeded Tennessee, which is 3-1 against Alabama this season. Murphy has one national title during his tenure with the Tide (2012), and a second would look really pretty in the trophy case.

The defending champion Oklahoma Sooners enter the tournament as an overwhelming favorite having gone 51-1 this year. UCLA (52-5) also poises a massive threat in the No. 2 spot .

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama softball as the NCAA Tournament gets underway.

Alabama softball HC Patrick Murphy records win No. 1,200

Patrick Murphy reaches an impressive milestone as Alabama softball took down Samford!

With a 3-2 win over Samford, Alabama softball head coach Patrick Murphy reach an impressive milestone: win No. 1,200 with the Crimson Tide program.

Murphy has coached collegiate softball since 1990 when he started as an assistant for Southwestern Louisiana. In 1996, he joined the Alabama staff as an assistant and was promoted to head coach in 1998.

With six regular season SEC championships, five SEC tournament championships and one national title, Murphy’s one of the best in the nation.

He has an overall record at Alabama of 1,200-335, which amounts to a 78.2% win percentage.

He’s seemingly got plenty of time left to see that number grow, as his recruiting classes have remained consistently strong over the years and he gets the most out of every roster he’s had.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Murphy and Alabama softball as the 2023 season progresses.

Alabama softball lands key transfer infielder from Big 10 school

Alabama softball picked up a commitment from Michigan transfer Lauren Esman. She will play first base for the Crimson Tide.

The Alabama softball team has had some wins and losses this offseason with respect to the transfer portal. The Crimson Tide lost Megan Bloodworth, Lexi Kilfoyl, Savannah Woodard, Jenna Lord and Dallis Goodnight. However, head coach [autotag]Patrick Murphy[/autotag] was able to land some promising transfers in Emma Broadfoot and Faith Hensley.

On Monday, the program received some good news when Michigan first baseman Lauren Esman announced that she is transferring to Alabama, according to Brett Greenberg.

Esman spent three seasons in Ann Arbor. After not seeing much playing time as a freshman, she was able to earn more playing time over the past two seasons.

In 2021, she held a .304 batting average with one home run and ten runs batted in. Esman was used primarily as a designated hitter as a sophomore where she started in 30 games.  In 2022, she was featured more at first base. Esman maintained a .263 batting average last season with three home runs and 20 runs batted in.

Coach Murphy lost one of the team’s most well-rounded players in Kaylee Tow. Now, he will likely start Esman on the corner across from First-Team All-SEC selection Ashley Prange.

The 2023 roster appears to be trending in the right direction with the new additions as well as key returning players Montana Fouts, Jenna Johnson and Ally Shipman.

After a disappointing finish to last season, the Tide will look to bounce back in 2023.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama softball as the offseason continues.

Alabama Morning Drive: Nick Saban takes shot at Texas A&M, saying Aggies ‘bought every player’

The latest news and notes involving the Alabama Crimson Tide on Thursday morning.

Good morning, Alabama nation! Welcome back to our Thursday edition of Alabama Morning Drive! I hope everyone is having a good week as we inch closer and closer to the weekend.

It has been a fun-filled week here at Roll Tide Wire and we are excited to bring you, even more, news and notes involving the Crimson Tide this morning.

Late Wednesday night coach [autotag]Nick Saban [/autotag] nearly broke the internet with his remarks on NIL and Texas A&M. While speaking at an event in Birmingham, Saban did not hold anything back with his accusations against his former assistant Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies.

“You read about it, you know who they are. We were second in recruiting last year. A&M was first. A&M bought every player on their team. Made a deal for name, image and likeness. We didn’t buy one player. Aight? But I don’t know if we’re going to be able to sustain that in the future, because more and more people are doing it. It’s tough.”

Coach Saban didn’t stop there, he would continue to blast programs such as Jackson State and Miami for taking advantage of NIL.

“I mean, Jackson State paid a guy a million dollars last year that was a really good Division I player to come to school. It was in the paper and they bragged about it. Nobody did anything about it.”

“Those guys from Miami that are going to play basketball there for $400,000, that’s in the newspaper. The guy tells you how he’s doing it.”

This story will only continue to grow and progress throughout the day and Roll Tide Wire will be here every step of the way!

Let’s take a look at a few other stories that Alabama fans should be checking in on.

Alabama SB seeding, Tuscaloosa Regional teams announced

Alabama softball looks to win it all this year, but will have to earn its way to the top.

Another year, another Tuscaloosa Regional for the Alabama Softball team. In the final rankings of the year, the Tide closed out as the 6-seed and the tournament will take place from May 20-22.

The Tuscaloosa region will include Stanford, Murray State, and Chattanooga. The Crimson Tide have gone to the Women’s College World Series in consecutive years (2019, 2021) as the 2020 tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Alabama won its only Women’s College World Series under head coach Patrick Murphy in 2012 when they went 60-8. However, they have been knocking on the door in recent years. Is this the year they finally get back over that hump?
