WATCH: Lonzo Ball scores on, taunts Patrick Beverley vs. Clippers

Lonzo Ball got his long-awaited revenge on Patrick Beverley in Saturday’s game between the Pelicans and Clippers.

Lonzo Ball got off to a hot start on national television on Saturday and it came at the expense of an old rival. Ball scored 10 points in the first quarter in a Saturday afternoon matinee on ABC against the Los Angeles Clippers.

It was an aggressive version of Ball out of the gates as he knocked down some long-range efforts and stole a pass for a basket and a fall on a fastbreak. He capped off his hot start by backing down old rival Patrick Beverley and knocking down a jumper before taunting him on his way back downcourt.

Ball and Beverley’s history dates back to Ball’s first game in the NBA. Then with the Lakers, Ball was harassed by Beverley, who talked for his fair share of trash in the process.

On Saturday, Ball got some redemption with a triple-double against the Clippers while Beverley had a pedestrian night statistically.

Lonzo Ball gets revenge on Patrick Beverley three years later by calling him short

Ah, yes. Sweet, sweet vengeance.

Lonzo Ball was one of the most talked about rookies in recent memory when he came into the NBA.

We literally followed his every move as he sold out Summer League arenas. We tracked what shoes he was wearing every game, his television appearances and literally every word his father was saying about him.

Looking back on it? Yeah, we were wilding, collectively. But that’s what we do! It’s not Lonzo Ball’s fault.

Patrick Beverley didn’t care. He didn’t like it one bit and he vowed to embarrass the rookie in his NBA debut when the Lakers played the Clippers.

Yes, it was absolutely and EXTREMELY petty. Every minute of it was mean…and we loved it.

Finally, three years and one trade later, Lonzo got his revenge on Pat Bev for being a jerk.

On Saturday, Ball shot a fadeaway jumper over Beverley from the post and delivered the worst insult you could possibly throw at another man — he called him short.

Ah, yes. Sweet, sweet vengeance. It’s such a beautiful thing.

Though, I’m sure now, Ball probably needs to be a bit careful. Knowing how intense Beverley is, he’ll probably add this moment to some insane list of reasons (some fictitious and some real) to make Ball’s life as awful as possible. Just because.

Clippers Patrick Beverley says Steph Curry is ‘like a brother’

Patrick Beverley shared the story of his and Stephen Curry’s long relationship from the time they college roommates, to rivals in the NBA.

Southern California versus Northern California will always be a rivalry no matter what it comes too. Los Angeles Dodgers against the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Rams versus San Francisco 49ers. Who has worse traffic or who has better burritos? All pertinent questions that will be debated between California natives for centuries.

When it comes to basketball, the Golden State Warriors have had playoff battles against the Los Angeles Clippers over recent history, but their rivalry is only blossoming.

While it may not be a rivalry yet, one member of the Los Angeles Clippers has taken a throne as the villain at times for the Golden State Warriors. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and the rest of the Golden State backcourt has been on the opposite side of Patrick Beverley’s feisty playing style.

From his time in Houston, and now with the Clippers, Beverley has battled Golden State throughout his career.

To start the 2019-20 season, the Los Angeles Clipper blew out the Warriors in their first-ever game at Chase Center in San Francisco. Beverley was yelling at fans in attendance who were leaving the game early.

The Warriors squared off against the Clippers for the second time in the 2019-20 season, this time in Los Angeles. After the game, Beverley checked in with the Warriors injured All-Star on the bench.

Beverley was asked about his interaction with Curry in the locker room postgame and shared how far he and the two-time Most Valuable Player go back through their basketball playing careers.

Steph is like a brother — I don’t really talk about relationships with the people I do have in the NBA — Freshman year of college, roommates. USA team, roommates. Sophomore year of college, Paul Pierce camp, roommates. Lebron James camp, roommates — these are things people don’t know, but we been knowing each other since we were pups.

Beverley had a near triple-double against Golden State on Friday night with 12 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. The Warriors won’t play the Clippers until March, right around the time Curry could be nearing his return. The former roommates will get a chance to face each other again on the court, instead of postgame meeting on the bench.

Report: LeBron James will play Saturday night at Trail Blazers

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will play on Saturday night with a groin injury, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

After looking like someone who would play barring a stepback at the Los Angeles Lakers shootaround on Saturday morning, LeBron James will indeed play on Saturday night against the Portland Trail Blazers, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

“I mean pretty much what I normally do but I just added a little bit more treatment to the area,” James said on Saturday morning about his process over the last few days. “Some other things to try and fast track it to improve it. A pretty good couple of days after the Christmas Day game.”

James confirmed that he was indeed sore after the collision in the Christmas Day game with Patrick Beverley but that the last few days of round the clock treatment have resulted in a healthier groin and the approach of the day that he would play.

LeBron also told reporters on Saturday that playing in a back-to-back Sunday night against the Dallas Mavericks would not be a factor in his decision to play.

Lakers head coach Frank Vogel is expected to speak with the media in approximately 30 minutes but as James is in the arena, it sounds like he’s ready to go.

LeBron James says groin ‘good,’ will decide on playing after shootaround

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James told reporters in Portland that his groin feels good after getting “round the clock” treatment.

PORTLAND, Ore. –– If you ask LeBron James, his right groin feels “good” after getting treatment “round the clock” over the last few days but he still remains undecided about whether he will play tonight against the Portland Trail Blazers, even though he is approaching Saturday as if he will play.

James worked out during the Lakers shootaround on Saturday morning in Portland and told reporters that his groin had improved since getting a driving knee into his leg. James said he was improving and also said his decision on whether to play Saturday is not impacted by playing Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night.

“I live in the moment,” James said. “See how I am throughout the day and we’ll take it from there.”

James believes that the groin has improved quite a bit over the past few days with treatment. He also said that his treatment for the groin was constant.

“I mean pretty watch what I normally do but I just added a little bit more treatment to the area,” James said. “Some other things to try and fast track it to improve it. A pretty good couple of days after the Christmas Day game.”

While James would not give a definitive status for Saturday night’s game, he sounded like someone who intended to play barring an unforeseen setback.

Lakers deem LeBron James questionable, Anthony Davis probable at Blazers

The Los Angeles Lakers will have Anthony Davis but LeBron’s status for their game Saturday is still 50-50 with a bruised groin.

The Los Angeles Lakers got some good news after a rough Christmas Day loss to the Los Angeles Clippers that involved LeBron James re-aggravating an already sore right groin when he received a knee to the groin from Clippers guard Patrick Beverley.

After a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania that said James “fine enough” to play after responding well to treatment on Thursday, the Lakers confirmed on Friday that James will travel with the team but they have him considered “questionable” for Saturday night’s game with the Portland Trail Blazers in the Pacific Northwest. While LeBron is a 50-50 shot to play on Saturday, Anthony Davis is probable.

The Lakers will very likely have Davis in the lineup but it’s understandable that LeBron’s status remains up in the air. It’s good news for James and the Lakers that LeBron’s groin is feeling better now but given the Lakers have a long stretch at home until Jan. 7 following Saturday’s game, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he took a few games off. However, James has made a career out of expectations so, suiting up on Saturday would be par for the course for him only a few days before his 35th birthday.

WATCH: LeBron James says collision with Clippers’ Beverly set him back five days with groin injury

LeBron James is back where he was a handful of days ago, in terms of a nagging groin injury, because of a collision with Clippers guard Patrick Beverley in Wednesday’s game.

LeBron James is back where he was a handful of days ago, in terms of a nagging groin injury, because of a collision with Clippers guard Patrick Beverley in Wednesday’s game.

James returned to the court on Christmas Day after missing a game for the first time this season Sunday. Following the Lakers’ 111-106 loss on the 25th, James said, “I felt healthy going into the game. I got kneed in the groin taking a charge from Pat Bev, and it kind of set me right back to where I was five days ago.”

The almost-35-year-old, James, is already listed as day-to-day by the team. He has been dealing with both a thoracic muscle strain (pulling around his rib cage) and a groin injury.

While James suffered a torn left groin last season which seriously impacted his and the Lakers’ season, this year it is his right groin giving him trouble. ESPN reports that this injury is not as severe as what James dealt with last time around.

LBJ played 39 minutes, despite re-aggravating the injury just a few plays after tipoff. He finished a rebound shy of a triple-double (23 points, 10 assists, 9 rebounds) but missed 15 shots from the floor including 10 missed three-pointers, which is the most 3’s missed in a game in James’ 17-season NBA career.

LeBron James could miss time with groin issue after collision

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James told reporters he had a setback when Patrick Beverley kneed him in the groin on Christmas Day.

The Los Angeles Lakers are fortunate that they are going to be home for much of the next few weeks because LeBron James has an injury that likely needs more rest and more treatment, one that got in last night’s Christmas Day loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

James told reporters following last night’s loss that an issue with his right groin was aggravated when he caught a knee to the groin from Clippers guard Patrick Beverley, which could keep him out for some games, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. James sat out in Sunday’s loss to the Denver Nuggets.

“I felt healthy going into the game,” James said after finishing with 23 points on 9-for-24 shooting, with 10 assists and 9 rebounds. “I got kneed in the groin taking a charge from Pat Bev, and it kind of set me right back to where I was five days ago.”

James had experienced great health for much of the season as Sunday was the first game of the season that he missed. But after playing 12 out of 15 games to start the month of December, perhaps it’s not shocking that the grind of the season has worn James down some. Only four days before his 35th birthday, it’s beginning to look like James needs to spend time healing before getting back out on the basketball court.

Luckily for the Lakers and James, his groin injury is not the same side of the one that derailed their season last Christmas. But given the memory of that injury is still fresh in everyone’s mind, taking some time to recoup would be the smartest approach for James. They only have one road game, this Saturday, Dec. 28 against the Portland Trail Blazers, between now and Jan. 7.

Patrick Beverley caught on camera taking a shot at James Harden

Beverley got back at a trash-talking fan.

Patrick Beverley continues to own opposing players and fans as the Los Angeles Clippers guard’s awesome 2019-20 continues.

Months after responding perfectly to a trolling fan on Twitter and yelling at departing Warriors fans during a Clips win, a Lakers die-hard yelled at Beverley as he came over to say hello to someone — I think that’s Clippers owner Steve Ballmer? — to say, “Don’t make me call James Harden.”

That’s probably a reference to earlier this season when Harden scored 47 points in a Houston Rockets win over the Clippers in November and Beverley’s rival Russell Westbrook called him out for “running around, doing nothing,” even though the stats proved Beverley kept Harden scoreless when he defended him.

Beverley’s response?

“I’ll lock his (butt) up too.”

Beverley was pretty pumped after the win on Twitter:
