Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill challenges Olympic legend Usain Bolt to a race

#Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill challenged Olympic legend Usain Bolt to a race following Bolt’s appearance on @PatMcAfeeShow | from @EdEastonJr

As the Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up Day 2 of training camp, WR Tyreek Hill turned his attention to another potential footrace against a speedy competitor.

Olympics track and field legend Usain Bolt was a guest this Thursday on the Pat MacAfee Show talking about his Olympic history. During the interview, he recalled having a conversation with Hill. The Jamaican track and field champion told an interesting story about the two before Bolt took his try at running in the NFL Combine.

”Me and Tyreek Hill got into it because he’s a Gatorade-sponsored athlete also, so we got into it one time,” said Bolt. “We were sitting down, and we were talking. He was like how he could take me, and he was talking, ‘blah blah blah,’ but then I went to the combine one year, and if you go on the internet right now, I ran a 4.22 in my sweats and some shoes. I told Tyreek, ‘You got no chance!’”

The video of Bolt running a 4.22 does exist from the 2019 Super Bowl weekend. Hill ran an explosive 4.29 during his pro day ahead of the 2016 NFL draft by comparison.

McAfee continued to fan the flames of a possible rivalry with Hill by continuing to bring up their linked history.

“One primetime game, they were talking about Tyreek Hill’s speed; it was like either his rookie year a second year,” McAfee said. “It was a primetime game, and they put him running next to you on the track. They were like the start, it was a 200 I believe, look the start there the same, and then you pulled away towards the end, but they were trying to showcase Tyreek speed, and I think a lot of us were like, we got a guy that can maybe catch Usain Bolt in the NFL.”

Hill was able to catch wind of Bolt’s comments and immediately requested a matchup with the all-time great track and field star.

Hill seems to think that the former Olympian has been avoiding an actual race with him. It begs the question of whether a race between the two speedsters will ever happen? Only time will tell when it comes to a race between these two titans of their respective sports. It sure would be fun to watch Bolt lace up the cleats and face off with Hill.

Adam Vinatieri announces retirement after 24 NFL seasons

Adam Vinatieri is retiring after 24 seasons in the NFL

Well, the five-year count to Canton can finally start for Adam Vinatieri and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The amazing kicker for the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts went on the show of former teammate Pat McAfee Wednesday to announce his retirement from the NFL … after 24 seasons.

Vinatieri joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 1996 out of South Dakota State. He played 10 seasons with New England and was a member of the Colts for 14 seasons.

A four-time Super Bowl winner — three with the Patriots and one with the Colts — he has the most Super Bowl wins by a kicker. He is also the only player to score 1,000 points for two different teams.

Vinatieri is the NFL’s all-time leading scorer and a four-time Super Bowl champion as Pat McAfee’s account tweeted.

Per ESPN.com:

Vinatieri, 48, a three-time Pro Bowl selection and a first-team All-Pro pick three times, scored 2,673 points for the New England Patriots and Indianapolis, where he played his final 14 seasons.

He made 29 game-winning kicks in his career, with three of them coming with the Patriots from 1996 to 2005. He made a game winner in blizzard-like conditions against Oakland in the 2001 AFC playoffs and made game-winning field goals in Super Bowls XXXVI and XXXVIII. No kicker has more Super Bowl rings than Vinatieri’s four — three with the Patriots and one with the Colts.

Julian Edelman definitively shuts down idea of joining Tom Brady, Buccaneers

Julian Edelman will stay true to remaining a Patriot for life.

Julian Edelman retired this offseason with a video that emphasized the fact he’ll end his career as a New England Patriot.

Regardless, it’s still been fun to poke fun at the idea of him joining Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The trio spent nearly a decade together in Foxborough and became extremely close friends over that duration. Edelman watched his two friends win a Super Bowl in Tampa last season while struggling to stay on the field with the 7-9 Patriots.

On a Zoom call during the 2021 NFL Draft, Brady continued to pry at the idea with an interesting comment. “We know Julian didn’t retire,” Brady said. “Let’s be honest, he’s just too scared to tell Bill (Belichick) he wants to come to Tampa.”

Pat McAfee discussed this conversation on his show last Saturday, but Edelman shut the idea down on Sunday by saying, “ain’t going any where Bubs #foxboroforever.”

The 34-year-old retired with chronic knee issues and he doesn’t plan on rethinking that decision.

Pat McAfee questions Justin Fields’ work ethic, love for the game

Ohio State QB Justin Fields had his work ethic and love for the game questioned by Pat McAfee as a potential reason for draft stock falling.

Now here’s something you haven’t really seen much of when it comes to Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. We all know that his NFL draft stock has fallen somewhat, and a lot of it seems to be because of the couple of games where his decision-making was questionable.

Sports show host Pat McAfee took it a bit further though on his show Wednesday when he had former Buckeye great A.J. Hawk on. McAfee seemed to wonder out loud if his drop on NFL scouting boards had to do more with some behind-the-scenes information on his work ethic and desire. This according to what McAfee has heard from ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky who says he’s heard it mentioned from several NFL sources.

“Justin Fields is potentially last one in, first one out type of guy, which is why the narrative of his draft stock is going down,” McAfee said pointing to Orlovsky’s sourcing. … “There’s a lot of thought about how he’ll be as you know, basically the CEO of a quarterback team.”

McAfee then threw the question over to Hawk and the legendary Buckeye linebacker said it’s a concern, but not one he knows about or has heard coming from the program. McAfee then connected the dots to a lack of love for the game and work ethic as to why some NFL scouts and executives may have cooled to who everyone thought Fields was before this past season.

“That would make a lot of sense,” McAfee continued. “I’m very befuddled about how this guy goes from an absolute stud — this guy the most talented guy — here we go, this is the locked into guy, and then it just came out of nowhere. I know he had a couple of bad games, but I think everybody did … You’re going to have bad games, and the fact that a two-year, three-year narrative almost got changed because of it, there had to be something. It would make sense if numerous media people are being told by numerous decision-makers that ‘we’re not 100 percent sold on his passion’ or whatever … It could all be (BS) though A.J., this could all be lies.”

You can listen to the brief segment between McAfee and Hawk for yourself, but we do want to add that the end of the interview does have one moment of foul language if you have sensitive ears around.

Now, we’ll get on our soapbox here.

We have heard nothing but glowing remarks about Fields from his teammates, coaches, competitors, opposing coaches, and those that recruited him and know him at all. Ryan Day (the guy that would know more than any other) has praised Fields’ love for the game, his leadership, and his work ethic. If it weren’t for his desire to play, he could have sat out last year knowing he was going to be a first-round draft pick.

Fields wouldn’t have organized a push to play the season. You simply don’t get as accurate and precise reading coverages and throwing the ball in tight windows with timing routes without working on your craft more than you sleep at night. Fields also changed his diet to be more fit and have more energy.

Does that sound like someone that doesn’t have passion for the game, or the leadership qualities to be successful at the highest of levels? This is all hogwash and there’s absolutely no evidence that Fields isn’t all in. Not one, other than so chatter that is potentially made up.

Still, you just never know about a guy until he’s thrust into the environment and told to sink or swim. My money is on Fields balling out in the NFL based on the body of work and what those around him believe.

A Marc-Andre Fleury goal would cost Pat McAfee six figures

How much money would it cost Pat McAfee if Vegas Golden Knights’ goalie Marc-Andre Fleury scores a goal?

Pat McAfee makes more headlines weekly than he did in his entire NFL career.

The former Indianapolis Colts punter has one of the most entertaining shows going and he also has managed to find time to wrestle for WWE at the NXT level.

McAfee isn’t shy and that was never more obvious than this week when he had Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury as a guest.

McAfee joked with Fleury about scoring a goal. Fleury has not done so in his NHL career. That didn’t stop McAfee from making an offer the Golden Knights’ veteran is sure to try and accomplish.

McAfee said he would donate $100,000 to the charity/foundation of Fleury’s choice if the goaltender finds the opponent’s net/

Pekka Rinne broke a six-year drought between goalie goals in the NHL when he was able to pot one against the Chicago Blackhawks last season.

Have a look at Ron Hextall of the Flyers, who became the first goaltender to score in NHL history.

Pat McAfee sheds light on the J.J. Watt free agency pursuit

The reports aren’t coming from Watt himself

The J.J. Watt saga continues without any seeming quick resolution for the Cleveland Browns or other teams interested in signing the three-time defensive player of the year. With reports coming out almost hourly from various sources, it’s tough to discern what is real and what is speculation.

Pat McAfee, the former punter-turned-podcaster, took a knife to cut through some of the reports and went directly to Watt himself. He asked Watt via text about how much of what we are hearing regarding his intentions is legit.

Watt responded to McAfee and cleared up a lot in the process.

McAfee quoted Watt, reading the text off the phone as he addressed the camera,

“Neither I nor my agents speak to anyone. Period.”

Watt did note that they do talk to the teams to negotiate, but that is the extent of their info.

McAfee correctly deduces that the reports coming out are from teams negotiating with Watt. One of those reports indicates the Browns are still in the running but have not formally made an offer. Presuming Watt is honest with McAfee, that means the info is coming from the Browns themselves.

Pat McAfee: Chris Ballard said Colts ‘were very competitive’ in Matthew Stafford sweepstakes

McAfee says the Colts were competitive with Stafford until the Rams dropped a bomb.

The Indianapolis Colts were interested in trading for quarterback Matthew Stafford before the Los Angeles Rams blew away everyone’s offer in order to obtain the 32-year-old.

While it isn’t clear what exactly the Colts offered in exchange for Stafford—the reports are conflicting—Pat McAfee said on the Pat McAfee show that general manager Chris Ballard told him that Indy was “very competitive” in the Stafford sweepstakes.

“‘Where are we going forward,’ I asked. And [Ballard] said ‘we were very competitive’—his exact words. ‘We were very competitive with Stafford and the Rams threw a bomb,” McAfee said on his show of the conversation he had with Ballard. “‘Good for them’ he said basically. We couldn’t do that.”

This would make sense given what the Rams offered, which turned out to be two future first-round picks, a third-round pick and quarterback Jared Goff. We thought the No. 21 overall pick and the No. 54 overall pick would have been a decent offer. But the Colts would have never matched what the Rams gave.

Again, it isn’t clear what the Colts did offer. Albert Breer of Sports Illustarted reported the Colts offered a combo of players and picks but never the No. 21 overall selection while Peter King of NBC Sports reported the Colts offered their first-rounder but nothing more.

So maybe the Colts were competitive in the Stafford sweepstakes and one of the favorites until the Rams came in and outbid everyone.

Regardless, the Colts will move onto their next objective, which is either signing a veteran in free agency or trading up for a quarterback prospect in the 2021 NFL draft.

Jack Conklin praises Odell Beckham Jr. and the Browns strong locker room

Conklin also talked about how important losing in Week 1 was for the team

Browns All-Pro right tackle Jack Conklin joined the Pat McAfee Show this week to talk about the Browns sudden ascension into playoff contender and a variety of other topics.

One of the more interesting points came when Conklin admitted that the brutal loss to the Ravens in Week 1 was a net positive.

“We took a beating that first week against the Ravens and I think that was really what woke us up. We figured hey, it made guys have to buy in and figure out how we can be successful all together.”

He mentioned how the team missed wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for most of the season and did not blink in saying the star wideout will be back in 2021.

“It’s a bunch of cool guys,” Conklin said to McAfee. “Like you said it’s a bunch of personalities, but I think we’re all pretty young guys, we’re all guys that are trying to build something here. We’re all sort of bought into the same mindset.”

That includes Beckham, the celebrated wide receiver.

“My locker was right next to Odell’s (Beckham),” Conklin continued. “I’d talk to him after practice about stuff. Whether we were upset about different things, we were able to hash that stuff out. I think that’s what makes a good team and what makes teams get better and better, when you have that open communication between guys. You might be frustrated with something but if you can get that off your chest and sort of hear what the other guy’s side of stuff is and why they think things will work it sort of helps hash things out.”

Conklin also shows off his gnarled pinkie finger from playing, and it’s not pretty.

The full segment from Conklin’s interview is available on YouTube, beginning around the 1:06:00 mark:

Aaron Rodgers goes out of his way to praise Matthew Stafford

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers goes out of his way to praise Lions QB Matthew Stafford on the Pat McAfee Show

Need another sign of the craziness that is 2020? How about Packers QB Aaron Rodgers showing serious respect and admiration for Lions counterpart Matthew Stafford?

That’s exactly what Rodgers did during his latest appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. A relaxed, candid Rodgers brought up Stafford unprompted as someone who deserves a lot more respect.

“I will say this,” Rodgers said. “A guy who probably doesn’t get anywhere near the credit for doing (expletive) like that all the time, he wears No. 9 and plays in Detroit. That dude, what he does with the ball is impressive. It’s really, really impressive,”

Rodgers continued, unprompted by McAfee or A.J. Hawk, who was also sitting in,

“That dude is throwing crazy no-lookers all the time. And he can throw from any arm angle. I don’t think he gets; maybe it’s Detroit…” Rodgers waxes before McAfee interjects. Rodgers then defends Stafford in the face of the Lions’ abysmal shutout loss to the Panthers.

Pat McAfee calls Arch Manning’s TV debut ‘unbelievable’

On Friday, Pat McAfee praised Arch Manning’s national television debut.

Arch Manning has a fan in former Indianapolis Colts punter and sports media star Pat McAfee.

Manning made his national television debut last week, going 21-26 for 241 yards, one passing touchdown and two rushing touchdowns in a 55-22 New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman win over rival New Orleans (La.) KIPP Booker T. Washington. On Friday, McAfee gave his review of Manning’s ESPN debut, and, in typical McAfee style, added a little bit of exaggeration into his analysis to illustrate how great Manning was on Thursday night.

“He is unbelievable,” McAfee said on his radio show. “And he seems to have more athleticism than his uncles, Peyton and Eli, too. He’s been going to the Manning Passing Academy since he’s, what, five years old? Has there ever been a human that is ready and gonna go? He was everything that they hyped him up to be, by the way. Put them on ESPN2, that’s the entire world saying, ‘Okay, does this kid got it or not? ESPN. He went like [expletive] six-for-six for 400 yards his first six passes or something. It was just unbelievable watching him.”

Manning, the nephew of Eli and Peyton Manning, entered his national television debut completing over 76% of his passes on the season to go along with six passing touchdowns and three scores on the ground in two Isidore Newman wins. He kicked off his sophomore campaign by totaling six touchdowns in a 41-0 win over Metairie (La.) East Jefferson High School.

“There was a lot of people that wanted to see Arch Manning have a miserable night on ESPN2 last night. A lot of people,” McAfee said. “I would assume that Patriots fans, I would assume there’s a lot of people that hate Peyton or Eli, or something like that. Or even just are upset at the fact that that kid gets on ESPN2 because of who he is. And instead, the complete opposite. He just [expletive] balled out.”
