Insider gives update on Davante Adams trade: Bad news for Steelers

Insider Adam Schefter confirmed the Raiders asking price for Davante Adams, and the team is unwilling to budge. Will he stay in Las Vegas?

Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday morning, insider Adam Schefter reported some troubling news for fans of the black and gold hoping their team can acquire 31-year-old All-Pro receiver Davante Adams.

While it was speculated that the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints, two of the favorites to land the wide receiver, were backing off the aggressiveness of their pursuit of Adams, Schefter reported that remaining in Las Vegas is looking more like the realistic possibility as time goes on.

Schefter confirmed the Raiders’ required asking price for their player but added a new layer of drama—the team does not want to take on any of Adams’ salary and will not budge on these two areas of the trade. It was also reported that the All-Pro receiver is a major fan of current Raiders QB Aiden O’Connell, and many within the Raiders organization could welcome him back.

Will the Pittsburgh Steelers attempt to meet the Raiders’ demands? Or will the ‘Steel City’ look elsewhere for the receiver position? Stay with us at SteelersWire as this situation continues to unfold.

Vikings HC credits Sam Darnold and the work he has put in

The Vikings’ HC says he isn’t shocked with how well Sam Darnold has played through five weeks.

When the Vikings signed Sam Darnold to a one-year deal, not too many fans were thrilled. The former top-five pick didn’t pan out for the Jets or Carolina, but after spending one year learning under Kyle Shanahan, Darnold felt like he understood the NFL game better.

Fast-forward to 2024. The Vikings are 5-0 and on top of the NFC Conference. Darnold has been lights out, and many are calling him an MVP favorite. Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, head coach Kevin O’Connell says he’s not surprised by Darnold’s success and is proud of the quarterback he’s been.

“I knew all along if we could get some guys open — Sam Darnold’s going to hit them,” O’Connell told McAfee. “He’s talented, he can play quarterback in the NFL. I’ve always believed that and I’m proud of him…He’s one of our captains and he works as hard as anyone each week to be ready. I’m not surprised when he goes out and has success. The challenge for Sam and the rest of our team is how they handle the success.”

Darnold was a little shaky in the Vikings’ latest win against the Jets, but it was also the worst the offensive line played. Darnold was pressured repeatedly. Entering a bye week, the Vikings have a week to sort a few things out and get the offense back on track.

Colts cornerback and Aggies alumnus Jaylon Jones ‘makes a play every drive’ per Pat McAfee

“Jaylon Jones, #40 for the Colts, might be an All Pro this year,” McAfee tweeted on Sunday afternoon. “Makes a play every drive seemingly.”

This past weekend in Jacksonville, former Texas A&M football player Jaylon Jones got the attention of one of the loudest and prominent talking heads in sports, Pat McAfee.

The former Colts punter, ESPN personality and arguably most famous fan in Indiana praised Jones for his play during a 37-34 loss against the Jaguars in Week 5.

“Jaylon Jones, #40 for the Colts, might be an All Pro this year,” McAfee tweeted on Sunday afternoon. “Makes a play every drive seemingly.”

Jones isn’t to be confused with another NFL cornerback by the same name who also attended an SEC school. The second-year defensive back suited up for the Aggies at Kyle Field from 2020-22. He was drafted by the Colts with the 221st overall pick in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Despite the loss, Jones had a strong individual performance versus Jacksonville. He racked up 6 tackles (5 solo), 2 pass deflections and 1 forced fumble.

Indianapolis face another AFC South rival on the road Sunday at noon against Tennessee.

Commanders RB Jeremy McNichols receives ridiculous fine from the NFL

McNichols was fined for this celebration.

Washington Commanders running back Jeremy McNichols first entered the NFL in 2017. Since his rookie season, McNichols has spent time on 10 different teams, including two stints with the Tennessee Titans. Despite appearing in three games for the San Francisco 49ers last season, McNichols hadn’t carried the football in an NFL game since 2021.

That all changed in Washington’s 42-14 win over the Arizona Cardinals last week. With Austin Ekeler out with an injury, McNichols, who made the 53-man roster as the team’s No. 3 running back, carried the ball eight times for 68 yards and two touchdowns. He played a pivotal role in Washington’s win.

However, there was one blemish on McNichols’ game last week. He was penalized 15 yards after one of his touchdowns for the “bow and arrow celebration.”

The NFL’s alleged reasoning for this is that it “mimics a violent act.”

Yeah, seriously.

As it turns out, McNichols’s punishment wasn’t over, as the NFL fined him $6,250.

There is some confusion here. Pat McAfee said last week that his NFL source said the bow and arrow celebration was “good to go.”

The NFL fined Bengals wide receiver Andre Iosivas for the same celebration in Week 2 and later rescinded the fine. So, why fine McNichols in the first place?

The No Fun League strikes again.

Cal student makes 700K kick on ‘College GameDay’

A Cal student hit a field goal on ‘College GameDay’ for 700K

ESPN’s “College GameDay” has plenty of interesting angles. On Saturday, the one that features a student trying to kick a field goal took on a lot of pressure.

Daniel was wide right on his first kick. Not too much pressure with 100K on the line for the Cal student and 600K for Hurricane Helene relief funds as he stepped into the football with $700,000 at stake.

The Calgorithm wasn’t in his favor but Daniel drilled the kick.

ESPN analyst says 49ers have best defensive player in NFL

Through four games, the 49ers LB has already recorded three forced fumbles, two interceptions, a sack and 27 total tackles.

Following his red-hot start to the 2024 NFL campaign, San Francisco 49ers star linebacker Fred Warner is beginning to pile up some rightful recognition.

In an appearance on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, former NFL defensive back Darius Butler shared some high praise for the 49ers defensive captain.

Opening his segment on The Pat McAfee Show, Butler said the 49ers linebacker is the best defensive player in the NFL before breaking down Warner’s highlight-reel pick-six against New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

Via @PatMcAfeeShow on Twitter:

Through four games, Warner has already racked up three forced fumbles, two interceptions, a sack and 27 total tackles for the 49ers. On Sunday, he notched his first touchdown of the season with a heroic interception off Brisett.

Who did College GameDay predict will win between Georgia-Alabama

College GameDay hosts Nick Saban, Pat McAfee, Lee Corso, and Desmond Howard predict how the UGA-Alabama game will go.

College GameDay is taking place in Tuscaloosa, watching the matchup between the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs and No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide. In advance of the matchup starting at 7:30, each analyst (not including Rece Davis)  decided to take a shot at predicting how the game would go. Here’s what each one of them said:

Desmond Howard

“I have a concern in that Alabama offensive line when I saw against USF. They made some changes in the second half to take over that game, and they just dominated Wisconsin. I love what I’m seeing from the trenches at Alabama. Roll Tide!”

Nick Saban, Terry Saban

Nick & Terry: “Roll Tide Roll!”

Terry: “If I can add to that, I talked to one of the mothers of one of our players and she said ‘Her son said we are confident, and we are ready'”

It’s an expected pick, and it’s classic Saban, who’s been feeding rat poison to Georgia with false prophecies of them being the best team in the SEC.

Pat McAfee

A lot of people were the most excited about this pick, with last year’s being so entertaining. He didn’t disappoint.

“Give me the state that has been phenomenal for college football for so long. Give me the state that has the bear, the goat, and now DeBoer, and from the strip to the quad to the Saban household last night that is absolutely beautiful, there’s only one thing that’s running through my soul, and that is ROLLLLL TIDE!!!! I got Alabama in the Kalen DeBoer era putting a stamp on the SEC.”

Lee Corso

Corso’s pick was super special. He brought a mascot head for the team he picked.

“I’ve picked Alabama 37 times. Alabama’s got a quarterback who has accounted for 14 touchdowns in the first three games, eight of them passing and six of them running. You see his highlights the whole week. ‘Roll Tide.”

Michael Wilbon dissed Pat McAfee for his potty mouth on Pardon the Interruption

Michael Wilbon threw a cleaer diss at Pat McAfee on Wednesday’s Pardon the Interruption.

Longtime Pardon the Interruption co-host Michael Wilbon wasn’t afraid to shade one of his fellow ESPN broadcasters during Wednesday’s show.

We’ll let you guess who it was. A hint: he doesn’t often wear a suit.

As Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser discussed LIV golfers potentially giving their salaries up before merging with the PGA, Wilbon discussed why he would detest someone asking him to do the same.

He wanted to use saltier language on the program to make his point, but he decided to rib Pat McAfee while talking about his self-censorship.

“I guess that if I wore a black tank top, that I could get away with those words on this show,” Wilbon quipped to Kornheiser on the broadcast.

https://twitter.com/awfulannouncing/status/1836566401928356266?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Of course, that is a direct jab at McAfee for his less-than-stellar reputation for swearing on his daily ESPN show, which is frowned upon in daily television of any sort.

We’re sure McAfee will catch wind of this and respond, as Wilbon didn’t seem afraid to get a dig in at his foul-mouthed ESPN co-worker.

Pat McAfee says Ewers vs. Manning a talking point whether Texas likes it or not

The college football world is speculating whether Arch Manning will usurp Quinn Ewers. ESPN’s Pat McAfee says the talk isn’t going away.

Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning? The Texas Longhorns quarterback ‘controversy’ isn’t going away anytime soon according to ESPN’s Pat McAfee.

Since Arch Manning stepped in for an injured Quinn Ewers against UTSA, the college football world has been talking about almost nothing else. Some major analysts say there isn’t a controversy.

Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt says having two starting QBs on your roster is a ‘win-win.’ Greg McElroy says Texas is ‘Ewers Team.” Even ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has weighed in saying ‘pump the breaks’ on Arch Manning replacing Ewers.

On the flip side, SEC stalwart Paul Finebaum says Manning will win the Heisman Trophy at Texas. The noise has been almost deafening. USA TODAY Sports is wondering if it’s a problem.

McAfee says it’s not going away anytime soon.

“Quinn Ewers was the Heisman favorite there for a while. Quinn Ewers back healthy. Quinn Ewers ballin’. Quinn Ewers potentially the first quarterback off the board going into the NFL this year. So good. But there’s another quarterback on that team that has the last name of Manning and if he’s going to go for five touchdowns every week, which is certainly possible. That is going to be a loud talking point whether they like it or not. That is something Sark is going to have to navigate obviously.” — Pat McAfee

https://twitter.com/PatMcAfeeShow/status/1836455038694064344

McAfee says Manning has been agreeable to his situation as Ewers backup. But Arch is a Manning after all.

“The Mannings will be completely cool with it all because they’ve agreed to everything that’s happening, even tough Arch is making the decisions. He wanted to go to Texas. Didn’t mind sitting and waiting. Didn’t mind having a college experience. Didn’t mind being a normal human and a normal teammate. But then he gets on the field and he goes bananas. He’s the fastest guy on the field. He’s been going to the Manning passing academy since he was like 8-years-old. I heard some people say, ‘Would we even be talking about this if his last name wasn’t Manning?’ No! That’s why we’re talking about it.” — Pat McAfee

Is all of the chatter good or bad for the team? One one hand the Longhorns are the talk of college football. On the other, it could disrupt the chemistry to throw the team off balance.

Former NFL QB encourages Panthers to trade Bryce Young

ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky believes the Panthers should just trade away QB Bryce Young at this point.

The Carolina Panthers, at least for the time being, are a bit out on Bryce Young. But one former player believes they should be all the way out on the 23-year-old quarterback.

On Monday, head coach Dave Canales announced his decision to bench Young moving forward. The spot under center will now be taken over by 14th-year veteran Andy Dalton, who is in line to make his second career start for the Panthers in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky, however, has taken the demotion a step further—as he thinks the Panthers should just look to offload the 2023 No. 1 overall pick.

Here’s what he had to say on Tuesday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show:

Orlovsky, on yesterday’s NFL Live, also threw out the Miami Dolphins as a sensical landing spot for Young . . .

Miami Bryce, huh?

Anyway, the Panthers may be better served to hold onto Young for now, as long as they’re not completely over him. What they can potentially still get out of him is worth much more than what they could potentially get for him
