Adam Schefter says that, barring setback, Saints will hire Kellen Moore

Adam Schefter says that, barring a setback, the New Orleans Saints will hire Kellen Moore: ‘A chance to probably triple his salary, become a head coach, one of 32’

The New Orleans Saints head coach search has entered a state of limbo. They don’t have a new coach under contract, but they clearly have a top target. They can’t talk to him, but Kellen Moore and the Philadelphia Eagles will be practicing at their Metairie facility this week. They aren’t allowed to speak with Moore until after Super Bowl LIX, which will be played at the Caesars Superdome. And they’ve told other coach candidates they won’t be making a decision until after the Super Bowl. Conveniently, that’s when Moore will be cleared to contact the team.

It’s kind of an awkward place to be in. All signs point to Moore becoming the Saints’ next head coach, but we aren’t across the finish line yet. ESPN’s Adam Schefter spoke about the situation during a Monday appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.

“Of course, barring a setback, he’s going to be the guy. Could there be a setback? Sure. There often are setbacks,” Schefter said, pointing to examples like Josh McDaniels leaving the Indianapolis Colts at the alter and Bill Belichick not coaching the New York Jets. It was a different scenario but Liam Coen flipping back to the Jacksonville Jaguars, leaving an offer on the table with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is a more recent example.

Schefter added that general manager Mickey Loomis has taken steps (and will continue to take steps) to do “everything in his power, when it comes to this coaching hire, to follow the rules and go by the book and not talk to Kellen Moore until after the Super Bowl. Could it break down and they not reach an agreement? Sure. Its that likely? No. Kellen Moore is gonna have a chance to probably triple his salary, become a head coach, one of 32.”

Why can’t the Saints contact Moore? That would be considered tampering, a penalty which would include a loss of draft picks. Schefter added, “What are they waiting for? Why not go hire him right now? But they’re not, and they’re waiting. They’re waiting to talk to Kellen Moore and they’re waiting to make sure they give the Eagles absolutely zero evidence that they’ve tampered with the guy until after the game.”

The Eagles have been here before, and the Saints clearly learned from being on the outside looking in. Philadelphia benefited from tampering charges on the Arizona Cardinals not following NFL protocol to hire Jonathan Gannon (then the Eagles defensive coordinator) as their head coach. That isn’t a situation Loomis is going to put the Saints in, hence the delay.

You just hope a setback doesn’t appear that takes Moore out of the running for the job. He’ll be speaking with the media almost every day leading up to Super Bowl LIX and is certain to face questions about the Saints’ controversial involvement in the New Orleans archdiocese clergy abuse scandal. The next week will be crucial.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid has plenty of praise for star player: ‘He keeps himself in great shape’

Kansas City #Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has plenty of praise for Travis Kelce: ‘He keeps himself in great shape’ | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is preparing his team for a three-peat opportunity against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. On Wednesday, he appeared as a guest on the Pat McAfee Show and shared his admiration for tight end Travis Kelce.

“He’s a great player. He’s got guys around him that are a little bit healthier, so all of these defensive coordinators, their whole focus isn’t just on Trav (Travis Kelce) and stopping Trav, and so, it frees him up a little bit, he hasn’t changed anything from before,” said Reid. “He can still do all the same things. If he’s got a couple of guys on him, then you go a different direction and have to work another area.”

Kelce didn’t have a big AFC Championship game but still owns numerous postseason records.

“He’s still a really good football player,” said Reid. “He keeps himself in great shape, never wants to miss a rep in practice, hates coming out of the game, I mean, absolutely hates coming out of the game. I love that part of him.”

The ten-time Pro Bowler will be relied upon once again in the biggest game of the year as Kansas City aims to make history.

Steelers QB Russell Wilson on where he wants to play, 2025 and beyond

Russell Wilson opened up about his long-term plans and where he envisions the next chapter of his career, including 2025 and beyond.

With rumors swirling about who will remain the starting QB for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025, it is difficult to determine whether the team will move forward with the younger Justin Fields or the aging Russell Wilson.

Wilson had alluded to the ‘plan’ being to re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025, but insider Gerry Dulac made it known that this original plan may be out the window—in favor of a new plan involving Fields as the signal-caller.

Little has been confirmed, but in the latest update, Wilson once again made his intentions clear, as well as his career aspirations, on The Pat McAfee Show:

“Going into Pittsburgh, it was a special place for me. Hopefully, I get to play there a lot longer.”

Wilson had previously stated that he hopes to retire with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and his desire at 36 years old to remain with the Black and Gold only adds more fuel to the proverbial 2025 QB fire.

Chiefs Travis Kelce praises Patrick Mahomes’ growth throughout the season: ‘True leadership’

Kansas City #Chiefs Travis Kelce praises Patrick Mahomes’ growth throughout the season: ‘True leadership’ | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce appeared on Monday’s episode of ‘The Pat McAfee Show‘ to show his appreciation for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his growth as a leader throughout the season.

“Well, I’ve seen him weather the storm; everybody’s mentioning the protection and who we’ve had up front,” said Kelce. “I think we figured that puzzle out, and on top of that, I’ve seen Pat (Patrick Mahomes) weather that storm and become better because of it.”

Mahomes has efficiently controlled the pace of the offense and endured numerous hits and sacks. Kansas City hasn’t had a turnover in over seven weeks and has dominated the plus-minus battles throughout the streak.

“I think when the team needs him the most, he steps up in ways he hasn’t before,” said Kelce. “It happens year in, year out, and it’s just so much fun to be a part of the team with him because he’s always going to take the bull by the horns and be the most accountable, be the one that puts it on himself more than he puts it on anybody else. That’s true leadership, right there.”

For the first time in his career, Mahomes wasn’t selected for the Pro Bowl or any of the All-Pro teams, but he’s been an impactful leader, and Kansas City finished with the best record in the AFC.

Travis Kelce responds to critics of the Chiefs’ three-peat chances: ‘We hear everything’

Travis Kelce responds to critics of the Kansas City #Chiefs’ three-peat chances: ‘We hear everything’ | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs enter the Divisional matchup with the Houston Texans with home-field advantage and experience in their favor. Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce appeared on Monday’s episode of ‘The Pat McAfee Show‘ to discuss this year’s team and being aware of the doubters heading into postseason play.

“We’re finding different and more ways to win early on and throughout the season. I think last year, we dealt with finding ways to lose,” said Kelce. “You can learn from both, but learning from the games you win is a whole lot more fun. I think we have a lot of confidence in this team, and a lot of guys are willing to go that extra mile, man.”

Kansas City finished the season with the best win total in franchise history, 15, and captured another AFC West title on their way to the top seed in the conference. Kelce pointed out a former NFL head coach and current ESPN analyst as a noted critic of the team.

“We’ve definitely heard all the chatter, and guys like Rex Ryan, saying this team can’t win in the playoffs, and he’s seen it before, and we hear everything, but at the same time, we know what’s real, and what’s in this building,” said Kelce. “That’s guys who want to be accountable for the one next to him and are going to keep finding ways to be accountable week in and week out.”

Ryan is being considered for the New York Jets head coach position this offseason and could have more to say about the two-time defending Super Bowl champions before Saturday.

Chiefs OG Trey Smith earns a unique honor from ‘The Pat McAfee Show’

Kansas City #Chiefs offensive guard Trey Smith earns a unique honor from ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ | @EdEastonJr

The awards and accolades keep rolling in for the Kansas City Chiefs, awaiting an opponent in the postseason after their bye week. Trey Smith has taken his game to another level this season, earning his first Pro Bowl selection and being a key member of the highly respected interior offensive line.

In a special segment on the latest episode of ‘The Pat McAfee Show,’ Smith was honored with ‘The Trenchy Award’ for the best guard of the season. McAfee announced the award alongside retired veteran NFL center A.Q. Shipley, who praised the former Tennessee Volunteers standout. He’s the best that you’re going to see, and he plays the game the right way,” said Shipley, highlighting a specific highlight from Smith’s 2024 season.

Shipley mentioned Joe Thuney as another candidate, but due to his recent move to left tackle, he couldn’t qualify for the interior offensive lineman honor. The segment briefly showcased Smith’s performance earlier in the season against Fred Warner of the San Francisco 49ers.

The two-time Super Bowl champion was drafted in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft and has quickly become an impact player on the Chiefs’ offensive line.

Mike Tomlin details how Steelers will handle Weeks 15-17 in 10 days

Mike Tomlin’s approach to the Steelers’ ’10-day stretch of doom’ highlights his preparation for key matchups this season.

If Mike Tomlin is being considered a favorite to win Coach of the Year in 2024, his potential success in leading the Pittsburgh Steelers out of their ’10-day stretch of doom’ should all but guarantee his selection.

However, doing so is no easy task, as highlighted by Tomlin himself during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

When asked if he had any type of game plan heading into this tough 10-day stretch, Tomlin responded with confidence, stating, “I made some day-to-day decisions in terms of keeping guys upright—giving guys rest days and so forth. But it hasn’t been anything that I’ve addressed in the ‘big room,’ if you will. I just don’t want to give it that type of credence.”

Facing the Philadelphia Eagles, the Baltimore Ravens, and Kansas City Chiefs will give the Tomlin led Steelers little room for error, and his careful preparation for these very three games will hopefully be all anyone will discuss in this season’s rendition of the NFL Honors.

Former Steelers safety blasts Aaron Rodgers: ‘This dude is a fraud’

Ryan Clark ripped into Aaron Rodgers over hypocrisy and fraudulence in fiery response to Rodgers’ rant against ESPN and former players.

It appears former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark didn’t take too kindly to Jets QB Aaron Rodgers‘ latest rant regarding ESPN and the former players who work there. Rodgers took to the Pat McAfee Show to rip into ESPN, and Clark has fired back.

Clark, who revitalized his legendary football career through ESPN as an analyst following his retirement, went scorched earth on Rodgers’ comments and alluded to the hypocrisy of the former Packers QB: “My issue with him is that you’re doing the exact same thing. The reason you’re getting the opportunity to say these asinine things is because someone is paying you—who is exactly the same thing you are now speaking out against.”

Clark wasn’t finished just proving Rodgers to be hypocritical, however, as he continued to tear into the quarterback’s character: “This dude is a fraud. He’s been a fraud. He could throw a football, and that’s where it stops.”

It’s safe to say Clark and Rodgers will not be exchanging Christmas cards in 2024, but the 41-year-old New York Jets QB should consider the bridges he is burning once his football career is over.

Mike Tomlin praises Russell Wilson for proving his worth with the Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin praised Russell Wilson, highlighting his leadership, experience, and determination.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin recently appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and expressed admiration for quarterback Russell Wilson.

Reflecting on Wilson’s leadership and performance since joining the Steelers, Tomlin praised the veteran’s impact on and off the field. “I get the benefit of watching Russell Wilson operate every day,” Tomlin said. “He’s got over a decade of experience, and he has a way with his teammates that’s inspiring.”

Tomlin highlighted Wilson’s natural leadership, noting his ability to foster unity within the team. “He brings people together and he brings the best out of everybody,” Tomlin added, emphasizing the quarterback’s knack for creating a winning culture. For Tomlin, Wilson’s edge goes beyond his playmaking ability, encompassing his drive and determination. “He had something to prove coming here, and he was working with an edge,” Tomlin explained.

As a longtime admirer of Wilson, Tomlin shared his appreciation for how the veteran approaches the quarterback position. “I’ve always loved the way that Russell Wilson plays the position,” he said. According to Tomlin, Wilson’s time in Pittsburgh has been a chance for the quarterback to showcase his abilities once more. “He knows he can do it; he just needed the opportunity to do it again,” Tomlin concluded.

Speculation surrounding Wilson is that the Steelers will re-sign him to a long-term contract in the offseason.
