Lions final injury report for Week 13 vs. Vikings: Swift out, Sewell questionable

Lions final injury report for Week 13 vs. Vikings: RB D’Andre Swift out, RT Penei Sewell questionable

The Detroit Lions offense could be at a disadvantage on Sunday when the Minnesota Vikings visit Ford Field for the Week 13 matchup. Versatile running back D’Andre Swift is one of four Lions ruled out for the game with injury, and right tackle Penei Sewell is listed as questionable.

Swift was expected to be out after injuring his shoulder in the Week 12 loss to the Bears. He will be joined on the sidelines by starting OLB Trey Flowers (knee), starting MLB Jalen Reeves-Maybin (shoulder) and reserve DB Bobby Price (shoulder).

Sewell missed one practice this week with an undisclosed illness, as did WR KhaDarel Hodge. Sewell is listed as questionable for the game after being limited in the other two practice sessions, while Hodge carries no designation.

Reserve tackle Matt Nelson, who would project to start if Sewell can’t play, is also questionable as he returns from an ankle injury. Will Holden is the only other tackle on the roster aside from starting LT Taylor Decker, though the Lions do have veterans Dan Skipper and Parker Ehinger on the practice squad. Ehinger was active for last week’s game.

Veteran DE Michael Brockers is also questionable with a knee injury that left him limited all week. On a more positive note, starting RG Halapoulivaati Vaitai has cleared the NFL concussion protocols and will start against Minnesota.

Lions elevate OL Parker Ehinger, place CB AJ Parker on IR

AJ Parker was already ruled out with an ankle injury

The injury-related changes continue to shift the Detroit Lions roster at the last minute every week. For Week 12, the Lions have lost a key cornerback.

Primary slot corner AJ Parker has been placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Parker was already ruled out for the Week 12 game, one of five Lions who are out with injury for Thursday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

The Lions opted to replace his roster spot by elevating OL Parker Ehinger from the practice squad. Ehinger has previous NFL starting experience and can play guard or tackle. Two of the players who are out are starting RG Halapoulivaati Vaitai and swing tackle Matt Nelson, so adding Ehinger bolsters the depth chart.

Lions place OL Logan Stenberg on injured reserve

Stenberg played 3 snaps on special teams in the Week 7 loss to the Rams

In a bit of a surprising move, the Detroit Lions have placed reserve offensive lineman Logan Stenberg on the team’s injured reserve list. The move was made Monday after the Lions returned to Detroit from the Week 7 trip to play the Los Angeles Rams.

Stenberg’s injury was not disclosed. He was active for Sunday’s game and has not appeared on any of the team’s injury reports required for practices. Stenberg did suffer a leg injury in the team’s preseason matchup with the Colts but he has been a regular participant in practices and active for games.

The second-year guard played three reps on special teams in Sunday’s loss to the Rams. He’s played four offensive snaps this year, all as an extra lineman in jumbo packages and none since Week 3.

Stenberg’s departure for at least three weeks leaves the Lions with just seven offensive linemen on the active 53-man roster. Expect that to change quickly; NFL teams are allowed to expand the game-day roster from 46 to 48 but only if there are eight offensive linemen active. The Lions currently have veteran Parker Ehinger on the practice squad, as well as undrafted rookie Tommie Kraemer, who had some positive reps in the preseason and can play center or guard. Ehinger is more of a tackle who can also play guard.

Lions place Frank Ragnow on I.R. in flurry of roster moves

Ragnow will miss at least 3 weeks with his toe injury

The Detroit Lions kept the NFL’s transaction wire busy on Wednesday morning with a series of roster moves. The most significant of the moves is placing Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow on injured reserve with a toe injury suffered in the Week 4 loss to the Chicago Bears.

Ragnow will miss at least the next three weeks. He joins standout left tackle Taylor Decker on I.R., depriving the Lions of their top two offensive linemen.

In other active 53-man roster news, the Lions activated kicker Austin Seibert from the reserve/COVID-19 list and promoted OLB Jessie Lemonier from the practice squad. Lemonier takes the place of Romeo Okwara, who was placed on I.R. with a torn Achilles earlier this week.

Seibert missed the last two weeks after testing positive for COVID-19. Ryan Santoso filled in quite capably as a practice squad promotion for Weeks 3-4.

Detroit also tinkered with the practice squad, and yes it once again involves WR Javon McKinley. His on-again/off-again status is now off, with the Lions releasing the undrafted rookie from Notre Dame for the fourth time in five weeks. Detroit signed veteran OL Parker Ehinger and brought back OLB Rashod Berry to the practice squad.

Ravens sign G Parker Ehinger after Andre Smith opts out of 2020 season

After offensive tackle Andre Smith used the voluntary opt-out provision to sit out the season, the Baltimore Ravens signed Parker Ehinger

The Baltimore Ravens added some depth to their training camp roster, signing guard Parker Ehinger on Tuesday, according to the team’s Twitter account. The move comes after offensive tackle Andre Smith used the voluntary opt-out provision agreed to by the NFL and NFLPA to sit out the 2020 NFL season.

This isn’t Ehinger’s first time with Baltimore, however. Ehinger has been on the Ravens’ practice squad previously and started one game last season. He started a total of five games for the Kansas City Chiefs over the 2016-2017 seasons.

While the move to add another offensive lineman makes sense after Smith’s decision to opt-out this season, Ehinger isn’t known for playing tackle. Though he did play both right and left tackle at the University of Cincinnati, he hasn’t played the position in the NFL. With Smith out, the Ravens are sorely lacking experienced depth behind starting offensive tackles Ronnie Stanley and Orlando Brown Jr. However, with free agency a distant memory this offseason as training camps open, there aren’t a ton of capable offensive tackles left on the market which might have forced Baltimore’s hand to go with someone they had more experience with.

Though the Ravens signed Ehinger, they likely aren’t done adjusting their training camp roster this offseason and could still look for improved depth at tackle.

4 free-agent options for Chiefs following Laurent Duvernay-Tardif’s opt-out decision

Looking at four free-agent options who make sense for the Kansas City Chiefs after Laurent Duvernay-Tardif’s opt-out.

The most likely scenario for the Kansas City Chiefs is that they’ll go with in-house options to replace starting RG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, who elected to opt-out of the 2020 NFL season. There still exists a slight possibility that the Chiefs could look outside the organization for help in terms of immediate impact or depth. There are a handful of interior offensive linemen available that make varying degrees of sense in Kansas City.

Larry Warford

Warford is probably considered the cream of the crop of free-agent guards on the market right now. The 29-year-old veteran also might be the most expensive guard on the market because as of May he was looking for a contract worth up to $7 million per year in average salary. It’s not clear if he’d take a discount to join the defending Super Bowl champions, but that number would likely price out the Chiefs.

Warford is reliable, only missing two games in the last two seasons. He only allowed two sacks during the 2019 season and earned a 73.1 overall grade according to Pro Football Focus. His fit with the Chiefs is a debatable topic as he’s not the most mobile and athletic guard, but he’s physical and a tone-setter on the offensive line. There are few teams in the NFL that couldn’t use that type of player on their team.

Ravens sign former Bengals T Andre Smith, put G Parker Ehinger on IR

The Ravens needed to add some depth to their OL with Parker Ehinger going to IR. They added a familiar face in Bengals T Andre Smith

The Baltimore Ravens might have been great enough to not only make the playoffs but be the No. 1 seed in the AFC, but that doesn’t mean they think they’re perfect. With the Tennessee Titans coming to town this weekend for the divisional round, the Ravens are changing up their offensive line depth a bit.

Guard Parker Ehinger has been dealing with a shoulder injury, listed as not practicing on the injury report for this week. The injury was apparently bad enough to end his season, with Baltimore putting him on injured reserve. To fill the spot, the Ravens have signed former Cincinnati Bengals tackle Andre Smith, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and confirmed by Jamison Hensley.

Smith didn’t play much for Cincinnati this season, getting waived following their Week 10 loss to the Ravens. Smith started five games this season, seeing 254 snaps on offense. While Smith is far from his prime, he brings a great deal of experience to the team. He’s been in the league for 11 seasons now.
