Golf and trading cards? LIV Golf signs new partnership with Panini

The move marks Panini’s first foray into golf after 60-plus years in the sports collectibles space.

Since its inception, LIV Golf hasn’t been afraid to try new things.

The league announced its latest partnership on Thursday morning, a multi-year deal with trading card company, Panini. The move marks Panini’s first foray into golf after 60-plus years in the sports collectibles space.

Products aren’t yet available, but physical trading cards will be released under the Prizm and Impeccable brands in the third quarter of this year according to Sports Business Journal, who was first to report the news. In the future, Panini will also launch an instant card program, where real-time cards will be released after tournaments that feature highlights from the season. Team card sets can be pre-ordered now.

“We have often thought about how to introduce some of our most popular trading card brands to golf, but the sport always had challenges. LIV Golf brought in a whole new dynamic into the sport with their fresh, unique and innovative approach,” said Panini America CEO Mark Warsop. “The team and league format aligns itself to something that did not exist that creates another level of collectability for fans.”

The league returns to play next week in Saudi Arabia with LIV Golf Jeddah, March 1-3, at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City.

Dylan Raiola announces his own trading card endorsement deal

Five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola will have his own trading card.

As the nation’s top quarterback prospect, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Dylan Raiola will have his own trading card. Just in time for Nebraska football fans to put on their holiday gift list.

A five-star quarterback from Buford High School (Buford, Georgia), Raiola made a late – and rather monumental – flip from Georgia to Nebraska during the early signing period. This follows Raiola’s official visit to Nebraska last weekend.

And in this new era of Name, Image and Likeness (NIL), Raiola has announced a sponsorship deal with Panini for his own trading card. The announcement came shortly after everything was made official with Nebraska.

His senior season at Buford was strong, showcasing Raiola’s incredible arm strength and accuracy.  All told this fall, Raiola threw for 2,666 yards with 34 touchdowns and two interceptions while completing 63.2 percent of his passes.

Raiola really fine-tuned his game this season under Buford’s offensive coordinator Gus Condon, arguably one of the top coordinators in high school football.

Texans QB C.J. Stroud rookie card sells for $6,750 in online auction

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud had a rookie card draw $6,750 in a recent online auction, the highest one of his cards has sold for to date.

The excitement surrounding the Houston Texans and rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud is palpable and continues to produce new evidence.

The latest entry comes from the sports card and memorabilia world where the No. 2 overall pick had a card go for a hefty price. According to PWCC Market Place, Stroud’s 2023 Panini Instant Premiere First Look Black 1-of-1 autographed rookie trading card sold for $6,750 Thursday night in their Premier Auction. The final bid makes the Panini product Stroud’s highest-selling card thus far.

The card is the first licensed production that shows Stroud in a Texans uniform, and the Black parallel of the card is reportedly the only such copy in existence.

A PWCC Market Place spokespersons says Beckett Grading deemed the 1-of-1 Black signature parallel a “near mint” 8.5 and Stroud’s autograph caught a perfect 10.

Stroud and the Texans finish up the preseason Aug. 27 against the New Orleans Saints at the Caesars Superdome.

Look: Panini reveals Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne rookie cards

Panini will be releasing their rookie card sets soon and it will include Jaguars first-round picks Travis Etienne and Trevor Lawrence.

Panini America recently revealed their Rated Rookie card set, which features various rookies taken in April’s NFL Draft. Among this year’s group were Jacksonville Jaguars first-round picks Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne, both of whom were Clemson stars.

Of course, Lawrence was the first overall pick and had been suspected to be the Jags’ choice for quite some time. Then, with pick No. 25 (courtesy of Los Angeles), they somewhat shocked fans by selecting Etienne. However, after the dust settled it was clear the Jags drafted him to be more of an all-around explosive weapon more than a running back.

As they have in the past, Panini did an excellent job with their rookie cards this season. Both can be purchased on Panini’s site, though they won’t be released for another 18 days.

D’Andre Swift ready to go ‘full force’ and seize his role with the Lions

2nd round RB D’Andre Swift ready to go ‘full force’ and seize his role with the Lions while also paying great respect to Kerryon Johnson

D’Andre Swift is used to competing with other talented running backs in a shared backfield. He’s done just that at Georgia for the last three years, splitting carries with four other RBs who are now in the NFL during his time with the Bulldogs.

Now Swift joins a Lions den of RBs that includes Kerryon Johnson, Ty Johnson and Bo Scarbrough, as well as fellow rookie Jason Huntley. Swift, Detroit’s second-round pick, is ready to work with Kerryon Johnson and find his own way to significant carries.

“I’ve been competing all my life,” Swift said Thursday on a conference call sponsored by Panini, via the Detroit Free Press. “Kerryon is a great back, great player. I remember when he was at Auburn, and he was killing us. He’s still doing great in the league.”

Swift continued,

“I can’t even give you my role. Whatever role they have for me, I just gotta make sure I’m in the best shape and know all of the plays so I’m ready to take it on full force. But I’m not going in there looking to do anything, just doing what I’ve been doing.”

Sorting out the running back room is one of the biggest issues on the Lions’ to-do list for training camp. Swift is ready to prove he is worthy of being at the top of the list.
