Analyzing Wednesday’s San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The San Diego Padres (32-32) take on the Los Angeles Angels (23-38) Wednesday in the finale of a 3-game set at Angel Stadium at 9:38 p.m. ET (FS1). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Padres vs. Angels odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Angels lead 2-0

The Padres dropped the ol’ Baby Ruth in the swimming pool, allowing 3 runs in the 7th Tuesday night to eventually fall 4-2. They had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and only managed to score 1. They’ve now lost 3 straight and trail the Los Angeles Dodgers by 7 games in the NL West.

The Angels snapped a string of 7 losses in 8 games with their 2 wins in consecutive nights. They are just 9-21 at home, and Tuesday’s victory was the first time all season they won consecutive games at home. Angels 2B Luis Rengifo is raking with a .329 BA, 4 HR and 18 RBIs.

Padres at Angels projected starters

RHP Dylan Cease vs. RHP Jose Soriano

Cease (5-4, 3.42 ERA) makes his 13th start. He has a 0.97 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 11.0 K/9 in 71 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 5 K in 11-8 victory at Kansas City Royals Friday
  • Last 5 starts vs. Angels: 1-1, 3.46 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 34 K in 26 IP

Soriano (2-5, 3.86 ERA) makes his 11th start and 13th appearance. He has a 1.22 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9 and 8.3 K/9 in 58 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 6 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 3 K in 5-4 loss Friday at Seattle Mariners

Padres at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 6, Angels 3

Moneyline

I love the Padres to avoid the sweep here, and honestly, I expected this ML to be a bit higher. As mentioned, the Halos are terrible at home and just won their first back-to-back games there all year. I do not expect them to complete the sweep.

Take PADRES -150 at a solid price that I expect to be juiced up more before first pitch.

Run line/Against the spread

A prop bet that I love here, is DYLAN CEASE OVER 6.5 K’s (-140). This is at a discount compared to other books. He has been a little inconsistent lately with 7+ K’s in 4 of 7 starts. The Angels are in the top half of the league when it comes to frequent whiffing. Cease had 10 and 11 K’s in his last 2 starts against them. Act now.

Over/Under

The wind is slated to blow out to left-center at 7 mph this evening. The Padres have scored just 3 runs in this series, and I look for the bats to awaken enough to carry the torch. It’s a small total, and I’m going OVER 8 (-105).

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The San Diego Padres (32-31) and Los Angeles Angels (22-38) hook up for the 2nd game of a 3-game series Tuesday. First pitch from Angel Stadium is scheduled for 9:38 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Padres vs. Angels odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Angels lead 1-0

The Padres have lost back-to-back games after falling 2-1 to the Angels Monday and failing to cover as -147 road favorites with the Under (8) easily hitting.

San Diego’s offense struggled as the only run came on 3B Manny Machado’s 1st-inning solo homer. LHP Adrian Morejon took the loss in relief, allowing 1 run in the bottom of the 8th. He was actually out of the game when the run scored, getting removed after RF Jo Adell’s leadoff double and a flyout, which moved Adell to 3rd. RHP Jeremiah Estrada entered and allowed a sacrifice fly to PH/2B Luis Guillorme as the Angels grabbed the 2-1 lead, which held up after a 1-2-3 top of the 9th.

The win snapped an Angels 5-game losing streak as they covered as +135 home underdogs despite being outhit 6-4. DH Willie Calhoun had the other Angels RBI — tying it at 1-1 with a 4th-inning single — while RHP Hunter Strickland (1 1/3 IP, 0 ER) picked up the win in relief.

Padres at Angels projected starters

RHP Adam Mazur vs. LHP Patrick Sandoval

Mazur will make his MLB debut after getting called up from Triple-A El Paso.

  • El Paso 2024 stats: 1-2, 7.11 ERA (19 IP, 15 ER), 1.32 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9, 8.5 K/9 in 4 starts since call-up from Double-A San Antonio
  • San Antonio 2024 stats: 3-1, 1.95 ERA (32 1/3 IP, 7 ER), 0.87 WHIP, 1.4 BB/9, 8.9 K/9 in 6 starts
  • Combined 2024 minor-league stats: 4-3, 3.86 ERA (51 1/3 IP, 22 ER), 1.03 WHIP. 1.6 BB/9, 8.8 K/9 in 10 starts

Sandoval (2-8, 5.34 ERA) makes his 13th start. He has a 1.48 WHIP, 1.0 BB/9 and 4.0 K/9 through 60 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 7 K in 8-3 home setback to New York Yankees Thursday
  • Angels are 3-9 in his 12 starts with Sandoval allowing 4 or more ER in 2 of his last 4 starts
  • Career vs. Padres: 1-0, 1.13 ERA (8 IP, 1 ER), 1.00 WHIP, 10 K in 2 games (1 start)

Padres at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 4, Angels 3

Moneyline

BET PADRES (+100).

San Diego has won 2 of its last 4 on the road and 5 of its last 8 overall. It has held opponents to 4 or fewer runs in 7 of its last 9 games. It goes up against an Angels team that has lost 8 of its last 9, including 5 of its last 6. L.A. has allowed 5 or more runs in 4 of its last 5 games.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

With an unproven pitcher starting for San Diego (+1.5, -210), there is minimal value on the run line in this game. Plus, that’s too much juice.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8.5 (-115).

The Padres have hit the Under in 6 of their last 10 games including back-to-back games. They have scored 4 or fewer runs in 7 of their last 10, while allowing 4 or fewer runs in 7 of their last 9.

The Angels have hit the Under in back-to-back games and have scored 2 or fewer runs in each of their last 3 games. They have scored 4 or fewer runs in each of their last 11 games.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The San Diego Padres (32-30) and Los Angeles Angels (21-38) open a 3-game set Monday. First pitch from Angel Stadium is at 9:38 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Padres vs. Angels odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Padres won 3-0 in 2023

The Padres enter the series having won 5 of their last 7 games, as well as the 1st series of their current 6-game road trip, taking 2 of 3 from the Kansas City Royals. They did lose the finale 4-3 Sunday.

The Angels return home after being swept in their 3-game series at the Seattle Mariners, losing the finale 5-1 Sunday. They have lost 5 straight games and 8 of their last 9.

Padres at Angels projected starters

RHP Matt Waldron vs. LHP Tyler Anderson

Padres at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 5, Angels 3

Moneyline

The Padres (-140) are 19-11 on the road this season and have won 7 of their last 10 away from home.

The Angels have the worst home record in baseball at 7-21.

Both pitchers have been dealing as of late, but the Angels have gone 10 straight games without scoring more than 4 runs.

The Padres have held opponents to 4 or fewer runs in 8 of their last 11 games.

Expect the Padres to win the opener, but with nice plus odds on the run line, that is the better bet for this game.

PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

Nine of the Padres’ last 11 wins have been by 2 or more runs.

In the Angels’ last 10 losses, 6 have been by only 1 run, but they have scored 3 or fewer runs in 4 of their last 5 games, while the Padres scored 21 runs in their 3-game series in Kansas City.

BET PADRES -1.5 (+125).

Over/Under

Anderson has allowed 3 total runs in his last 3 starts. Waldron has allowed 5 over his last 4.

BET UNDER 8.5 (-115).

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and prediction

The San Diego Padres (69-61) look to complete a two-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels (63-67) Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 9:07 p.m. ET at Angel Stadium. Let’s analyze the lines around the Padres vs. Angels odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Padres LHP Ryan Weathers (4-6, 5.27 ERA) makes his 17th start and 24th appearance. He has a 1.39 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 6.8 K/9 through 80 1/3 IP.

  • The Padres have lost Weathers’ last six starts.

  • Owns a 14.26 ERA over his last five appearances including four starts and one bullpen outing.

Prediction

Angels 7, Padres 5

Money line (ML)

The Padres’ 5-0 win Friday was just the third in their last 15 games. They have had three four-game losing skids followed by one win, and have not won consecutive games since winning four in a row Aug. 7-10.

Friday’s loss was the Angels’ third straight defeat and sixth in their last seven games. L.A. is 6-11 in its last 17 home games and has not had a losing skid longer than three games since dropping five in a row June 20-26.

Take the ANGELS (+105).

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Padres are 61-69 ATS overall and 30-30 ATS on the road. They have only covered the spread twice in their last 16 games and have not covered the spread in consecutive games since doing so three games in a row Aug. 7-9.

The Angels are 58-72 ATS overall and 27-36 ATS at home. They are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games but had covered the spread in five straight games prior.

Expecting them to pick up the outright win, take the ANGELS +1.5 (-150), although the money line pick gives you a better payout.

Over/Under (O/U)

Angel Stadium has the highest Over percentage in baseball at 62.9%.

The Padres have only had one of their last seven games finish with at least 10 runs. However, five of their last eight on the road have had totals of 10 or more runs.

Three of the Angels’ last four games and five of their last eight have had totals of 10 or more runs.

Considering the ERA of the starting pitchers recently take the OVER 9.5 (-122).

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Los Angeles Angels (63-66) host the San Diego Padres (68-61) for a two-game interleague series beginning Friday at Angel Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 9:38 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines around the Padres vs. Angels odds with MLB picks and predictions.

San Diego lost eight of its last nine games and 14 of its last 20, and now sits two games back of the Cincinnati Reds for the second National League wild-card berth.

L.A. lost five of its last six games including two in a row against a Baltimore Orioles team that had lost 19 straight games before beating the Angels Wednesday.

RHP Joe Musgrove gets the nod for the Padres. He is 8-8 with a 3.04 ERA (139 1/3 IP, 47 ER), 1.02 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 10.3 K/9 through 24 starts and one relief appearance.

  • Last outing: No-decision with 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB and 9 K in San Diego’s 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday.
  • 2021 road stats: 3-4 with a 3.86 ERA (63 IP, 27 ER), 1.06 WHIP and 3.7 K/BB in 11 starts and one relief outing.

L.A. hasn’t officially announced a starter yet, but LHP Packy Naughton is expected to make his first start of the year.

He gave up 1 ER, 2 H, 1 BB with 0 K in 1 IP of work out of the bullpen in the Angels’ 8-2 loss Aug. 8 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in his only appearance this season.

Padres at Angels odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 3:35 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Padres -220 (bet $220 to win $100) | Angels +180 (bet $100 to win $180)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Padres -1.5 (-130) | Angels +1.5 (+105)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -135 | U: +110)

Prediction

Padres 7, Angels 3

Money line (ML)

This ought to be a slump-buster for a Padres (-220) team whose season is sputtering and needs to get back on a winning track. The Angels just lost two of three games against the doormats of the AL and gave up 31 runs against the Orioles earlier this week.

There’s a huge talent mismatch between the Padres and Angels favoring San Diego, but the Padres lost their only two games as a road favorite greater than -180 and Musgrove was the starter for both games. Also, San Diego has a losing record as a road favorite.

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Slight “LEAN” to the PADRES -1.5 (-130) for a tiny wager if at all. I think they are the right side, but even this price is a little too expensive given how poorly San Diego has played recently.

The Padres are 11-2 ATS in interleague contests and the Angels are 6-10 ATS. L.A.’s bullpen is getting launched on this week and Angels relievers have the fourth-highest ERA and sixth-highest HR/9 over the last seven days.

Over/Under (O/U)

TAKE the OVER 0.5 (-115) in the FIRST INNING as Musgrove has his worst ERA, opponent OPS and most home runs allowed in the first inning compared to any other innings split.

On top of that, you know SS/OF Fernando Tatis Jr. and 3B Manny Machado are eager to get right against L.A.’s rookie starter.

L.A.’s lineup has its highest OPS and most home runs hit in the 1st inning and SP/DH Shohei Ohtani has hit eight first-inning home runs this year.
