Where did the Oklahoma Sooners land in the latest USA TODAY Sports WBB Coaches Poll?

Where did the Oklahoma Sooners land in the latest USA TODAY Sports Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll ahead of the Jumpman Invitational?

The Oklahoma Sooners are preparing to face off against the Michigan Wolverines in what will be a top 25 matchup in the Jumpman Invitational. Oklahoma tips off against the Wolverines Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.

The Oklahoma Sooners stayed at No. 11 in this week’s USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. Michigan moved into the poll this week, coming in at No. 25.

The undefeated UCLA Bruins are the unanimous No. 1 team in the nation, followed by defending national champion South Carolina, who moved up one spot to No. 2 in the latest poll. LSU, also undefeated at 12-0, comes in at No. 3, followed by Notre Dame at No. 4 and UConn at No. 5. The Huskies dropped three places in this week’s poll.

The Texas Longhorns are the third-highest-ranked SEC team, landing at No. 6 in the nation this week. At No. 11, the Sooners are the fourth-highest-ranked SEC squad at this point in the season.

The Sooners have been led by Raegan Beers, but senior guard Payton Verhulst is beginning to heat up as well, providing the Sooners with an inside-outside scoring presence. The Sooners have four players scoring in double figures and six players averaging seven points per game this season.

The Sooners are sixth in the nation in field goal percentage in 2024-2025, shooting 50% from the field. That while they’re only shooting a surprising 34.5% from three, which is No. 73 in the nation. If they can find a more consistent three-point stroke, they’ll be even more dangerous with the work Beers, Skylar Vann, and Sahara Williams are doing on the inside.

Oklahoma Sooners add 4-star power forward to 2025 class

The Oklahoma Sooners add 2025 four-star power forward Andreas Holst for the 2025 recruiting class.

Porter Moser and the Oklahoma Sooners added another big-time prospect to the 2025 recruiting class, earning a commitment from Danish four-star power forward Andreas Holst.

Holst is a 7-footer that has the ability to stretch the floor, play off the dribble, and is really good in transition. He’s considered the No. 54 player in the 2025 recruiting class and joins fellow four-star forward prospect Alec Blair.

Holst has a really nice spot up jumper and shows off good range. He runs the floor well and displays good touch around the basket. Holst shows good basketball awareness and is effective without the ball in his hands as a backside cutter.

He’ll need to continue to add to his frame to play at the collegiate level in the US, but he’s a skilled player that will make a huge impact on the Oklahoma Sooners offense.

Bedlam Hoops on the docket for 2024-2025 season

Bedlam Basketball is on for the upcoming season.

Oklahoma’s migration to the SEC took Bedlam off the table in football with nonconference schedules locked in for the foreseeable future. But other sports have figured out a way to keep the in-state rivalry on the table.

On Thursday, college basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported that an agreement has been finalized for Bedlam men’s basketball to take place on December 14 in Oklahoma City.

It’s a neutral site environment for a game that’s had big moments in recent years, including Javian McCollum’s buzzer-beater last season.

The Sooners also have notable nonconference matchups against Providence, Michigan, and Georgia Tech as they continue to fill out their schedule for year one in the SEC.

It’s an important season for the Sooners, reloading again via the transfer portal in hopes of making the NCAA tournament for the first time in Porter Moser’s tenure at Oklahoma.

Sooners offer in-state star Kaden Cooper as Porter Moser lays down roots in Oklahoma

2023 small forward Kaden Cooper receives an offer from the Oklahoma Sooners.

Last year, Porter Moser was about immediate upgrades and getting guys in that he knew could play in his first season as the Oklahoma Sooners’ head basketball coach. While they failed to secure an NCAA Tournament bid, the foundation was slowly beginning to be laid for his time in Norman. Moser has spent minimal time dwelling on the past and is on the recruiting trail to add to his program.

On his and his staff’s recruiting journey, they have a strong focus in-state as they try to monopolize the state’s best hoopers from going across state lines to play at other schools. The latest offer goes to G/F Kaden Cooper of Ada, Oklahoma. Cooper is a 2023 three-star who projects best as a small forward for college. He holds offers from Oklahoma State, Elon, DePaul, Oral Roberts, SMU, Texas, and others.

Cooper is one of the leaders on team Trae Young, Oklahoma’s only Adidas sponsored team on The Circuit. Over the last weekend in March, Cooper and Top 25-star Ja’Kobe Walter led Team Trae Young to a weekend sweep.

Cooper excels in transition but spoke this weekend on his need to continue to evolve as a shot-maker. That would be a welcomed trait to add to the program and music to the ears of Sooners fans’ who grew frustrated at times with the lack of high-level shot makers on the first edition of Porter Moser’s team.

Cooper hardly has a leading team, but Oklahoma will likely shoot up the leader boards for his services. The Sooners will look to apply its pressure on Cooper over the spring and summer and put itself in a prime position to land the aggressive in-state wing.

Michigan State basketball will renew their annual rivalry match-up with the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies on Dec. 13 at the Breslin Center.

Oakland released their official schedule on Friday afternoon, and it included a road game at the Spartans.

This will mark the ninth straight year and 14th time since 2005 that MSU-Oakland have played on the hardwood. Despite a few close calls, the Spartans are undefeated in 17 all-time match-ups against the Golden Grizzlies.

Yesterday, it was reported that Michigan State will host Western Michigan on Dec. 6. With the addition of Oakland, MSU now has only two open slots left on their non-conference slate.

Here’s what we currently know about the 2020-21 MSU basketball schedule based on reports and confirmed dates/opponents:

  • Nov. 28 – Notre Dame (home non-conference game)
  • Dec. 1 – at Duke (part of Champions Classic)
  • Dec. 6 – Western Michigan (home non-conference game)
  • Dec. 9 – at Virginia (part of ACC-Big Ten Challenge)
  • Dec. 13 – Oakland (home non-conference game)

A full schedule announcement from the Spartans should hopefully be coming in the next week.
