Redblacks at Roughriders picks and predictions

Prediction

Redblacks 31, Roughriders 14

Moneyline

The Redblacks are 2 different teams when they win and lose. In 3 wins, they average 33.3 points per game. In 4 losses, they average 13.0 per game, never scoring more than 15.

The Roughriders have allowed over 30 points in 2 of their last 3 games. They have scored 13 or fewer points in 3 of their last 4 games.

Betting Ottawa here is not a bad play but they have also covered the spread in each of their wins. The -110 line for them to cover is slightly better than -135 to simply win, so go with the spread.

PASS.

Against the spread

Ottawa has covered the spread in all 3 of its wins. They are, though, 1-2 ATS as favorites.

The Roughriders have not covered the spread yet this season in a loss.

BET REDBLACKS -2.5 (-110).

Over/Under

As noted, Ottawa averages 33.3 points in wins.

The Roughriders average 20.0 points per game in their losses.

BET OVER 44.5 (-110).

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Ottawa Redblacks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Ottawa Redblacks Week 8 odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-4) and Ottawa Redblacks (3-3) meet Friday at TD Place Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (CFL+/TSN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Tiger-Cats vs. Redblacks odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The Tiger-Cats failed to cover the spread as 10.5-point home underdogs with a 31-15 loss vs. the Toronto Argonauts last Friday. QB Bo Levi Mitchell (hip) will return Friday after missing the last 4 games.

The Redblacks covered as 4.5-point underdogs in a 43-41 overtime win at the Calgary Stampeders Sunday. Since QB Dustin Crum has become the starter, Ottawa is 2-0 straight up and against the spread.

In the 1st meeting this season between these teams, the Tiger-Cats won 21-13 as 1.5-point home underdogs July 8.

Tiger-Cats at Redblacks picks and predictions

Prediction

Tiger-Cats 23, Redblacks 21

Moneyline

The Tiger-Cats have won 2 of their last 3 games and Mitchell’s return should give them the boost needed to bounce back after getting blown out last time out.

The Redblacks are on a short week and are coming off back-to-back overtime wins. While Ottawa is 2-0 in Crum’s starts, it may be fatigued having to play its 3rd game in 14 days.

BET TIGER-CATS (+105).

Against the spread

Hamilton +1.5 (-110) should cover, but there’s no need to pay the higher price on the spread when the Tiger-Cats should beat the Redblacks straight up for the 9th straight time.

PASS. Bet the moneyline and/or the total instead.

Over/Under

The Under is 4-1 in Hamilton’s last 5 games after failing to cover in its previous contest. The Under has also hit in 6 of the last 8 meetings between these teams and should cash again Friday as Ottawa’s offense comes back down to Earth.

BET UNDER 49.5 (-110).

Ottawa RedBlacks at Calgary Stampeders odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Ottawa RedBlacks at Calgary Stampeders odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Ottawa RedBlacks (2-3) and the Calgary Stampeders (2-3) meet Sunday in a Week 7 matchup at McMahon Stadium in Calgary. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network/TSN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the RedBlacks vs. Stampeders odds and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The RedBlacks picked up an impressive 31-28 win in overtime in Week 6 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. However, Ottawa hasn’t had success on the road, going 0-2 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS). The Under is 4-0 in 4 games decided in regulation, with Ottawa’s lone Over result in OT last week.

The Stampeders took care of the RedBlacks in Canada’s capital city in Week 2, winning 26-15 to cover as 6.5-point favorites as the Under (43) cashed. Calgary lost and failed to cover the next 2 games before outlasting Saskatchewan in Regina by a 33-31 score last weekend.

RedBlacks at Stampeders picks and  predictions

Prediction

Stampeders 25, RedBlacks 18

Moneyline

Calgary (-200) will cost you 2 times your potential return. That’s quite a bit expensive, even with Calgary playing on its home field against a team it already beat on the road in Week 2.

PASS, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

CALGARY -4.5 (-110) is a strong play at home.

It won by 11 points on the road against Ottawa +4.5 (-110) in Week 2, and it is coming off an impressive offensive showing in Regina against the Roughriders last weekend. The offense has produced 26 or more points in 3 of the last 4 games, including the win over the RedBlacks.

Ottawa +4.5 (-110) is just too banged up to trust, especially in a road game against a team it has already lost against.

Over/Under

UNDER 44.5 (-110) is the lean, ever so slightly.

We saw these teams combine for just 41 points and an Under (43) result in Week 2. While Ottawa was impressive last week, posting 31 points of offense, the Under is still 4-1 overall for the RedBlacks.

The Under is 3-2 for Calgary this season, too, including 1-1 at McMahon Stadium.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Ottawa Redblacks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Ottawa Redblacks Week 6 odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (4-1) and Ottawa Redblacks (1-3) meet Saturday at TD Place Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET (CFL+/TSN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Blue Bombers vs. Redblacks odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The Blue Bombers covered the spread as 8-point home favorites with a 24-11 win vs. the Calgary Stampeders on July 7. Winnipeg’s 4 wins this season have been by an average margin of 14 points.

The Redblacks failed to cover as 1.5-point favorites in a 21-13 loss at the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last Saturday. Ottawa QB Jeremiah Masoli (Achilles) was forced to leave in his season debut and will be out for the year.

Redblacks backup QB Tyrie Adams (ACL) is also out for the season after getting injured Week 4 in a 26-7 win at home vs. the Edmonton Elks on June 30. Rookie QB Dustin Crum will make his 1st career start Saturday for Ottawa.

Blue Bombers at Redblacks picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Bombers 24, Redblacks 9

Moneyline

Winnipeg (-400) should beat Ottawa for the 6th straight time, but there’s no need to pay the higher price on the ML when the Blue Bombers should win by margin.

PASS on the ML. Bet the spread and/or the total instead.

Against the spread

Ottawa has had horrible luck with QB injuries the last 2 games. It’s hard to imagine that Crum will have much success vs. this Blue Bombers defense, especially since it has allowed just a total of 14 points over the last 2 games.

Winnipeg has been dominant all season, with the exception of a bizarre 30-6 loss as a 6-point home favorite vs. the BC Lions on June 22. The Blue Bombers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games vs. teams with a losing record and should continue to beat up on inferior competition Saturday vs. the 1-3 Redblacks.

BET BLUE BOMBERS -9.5 (-110).

Over/Under

Winnipeg has allowed less than 12 points in back-to-contests and Ottawa has scored more than 15 points just once this season. The Under is 3-0 in the Blue Bombers’ last 3 games and 5-0 in the Redblacks’ last 5.

BET UNDER 44.5 (-110).

Ottawa Redblacks at Hamilton Tiger-Cats odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Ottawa Redblacks at Hamilton Tiger-Cats Week 5 odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Ottawa Redblacks (1-2) and Hamilton Tiger-Cats (0-3) meet Saturday at Tim Hortons Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network/TSN). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Redblacks vs. Tiger-Cats odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The Redblacks covered the spread as 2.5-point home favorites with a 26-7 win vs. the Edmonton Elks June 30. Ottawa had lost its first 2 games by an average margin of 9.0 points.

Redblacks QB Jeremiah Masoli will make his season debut Saturday vs. his former team in Hamilton.

In their last game, the Tiger-Cats failed to cover as 2.5-point home favorites in a 38-12 loss to vs. the Montreal Alouettes June 23. Backup QB Matthew Shiltz threw for 345 yards with 2 INTs in his 1st start of the season after QB Bo Levi Mitchell (lower-body injury) landed on the 6-game injured list.

Redblacks at Tiger-Cats picks and predictions

Prediction

Tiger-Cats 24, Redblacks 16

Moneyline

It’s unlikely that Hamilton (-135) will lose its 4th straight game to start the season. However, there’s no need to pay the higher price on the ML when the Tiger-Cats should cover this short spread with a victory.

PASS on the moneyline, and look to laying the points and/or betting the total instead.

Against the spread

Masoli’s return to Hamilton may serve as a distraction for the Redblacks QB, who will be playing in his 1st game since suffering a leg injury vs. the Saskatchewan Roughriders July 8, 2022. While Masoli will likely be an upgrade over Adams, it should take the 34-year-old QB at least a few games before he starts elevating Ottawa (3rd-worst offense in 2022 with 19.6 points per game).

While Hamilton has looked hopeless this season, it is coming off a bye week and will be playing in its 2nd straight home game. Shiltz should improve after a disappointing performance last time out and lead Hamilton to its 8th straight head-to-head win over the Redblacks.

BET TIGER-CATS -1.5 (-115).

Over/Under

Ottawa is averaging just 17.7 points per game this season and the Under has hit in all 3 of its contests.

The Under has hit in 7 of Hamilton’s last 9 games after a bye week and should cash again Saturday, especially since neither team has shown signs of being explosive on offense this season.

BET UNDER 44.5 (-110).

Edmonton Elks at Ottawa RedBlacks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Edmonton Elks at Ottawa RedBlacks odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Edmonton Elks (0-3) and the Ottawa RedBlacks (0-2) meet Friday in a Week 4 matchup at TD Place in Ottawa, Ontario. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (TSN/CFL+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Elks vs. RedBlacks odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The good news for the Elks is that they registered 31 points last week at home against the Toronto Argonauts, easily a season high. The bad news is that they also allowed a season-high 43 points. Even with the offensive outburst, Edmonton is still averaging just 14.7 PPG, while allowing 405.0 total yards per game and 27.3 PPG.

The RedBlacks had a bye in Week 3 and were on the short end of a 26-15 setback at home against the Calgary Stampeders in Week 2 in their most recent showing prior. The defense has been adequate, allowing just 22.5 PPG, with the Under cashing in both games to date.

These teams met twice last season, with the home team winning and covering each meeting. The Under also cashed in both contests, and the Under is 10-1 in the past 11 meetings overall.

Elks at RedBlacks picks and predictions

Prediction

Elks 22, RedBlacks 19

Moneyline

EDMONTON (+115) is worth playing on the road in this battle of winless teams.

Ottawa is too banged up to trust. QB Nick Arbuckle has been a disaster in place of the injured Masoli to date, tossing 4 interceptions in 2 games, including 3 in the opener against the Montreal Alouettes. QB Tyrie Adams replaced Arbuckle in Week 2, but he also tossed an interception. But don’t be surprised to see more of him as the RedBlacks look for the right combination as he is a little more of a dual threat.

The Elks looked pretty decent on offense last time out, dropping 31 on the Argos. Now, the defense just needs to tighten up.

Against the spread

EDMONTON +2 (-110) is worth playing if you’re dead-set on the Elks winning, or if you believe Ottawa will only win by a single point. If you like the Elks the better value is playing the moneyline instead.

Over/Under

UNDER 42.5 (-110) is the best play on the board.

The RedBlacks are banged up and cannot get out of their own way on offense. The Elks looked legit on offense last week, but the defense was a disaster. Edmonton’s D should look much better this week against the toothless and error-prone Ottawa offense.

Calgary Stampeders at Ottawa RedBlacks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Calgary Stampeders at Ottawa RedBlacks odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Calgary Stampeders (0-1) and the Ottawa RedBlacks (0-1) kick off CFL Week 2 with a matchup Thursday at TD Place Stadium in Ottawa. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (CFL + on TV/Mobile) Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Stampeders vs. RedBlacks odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The Stampeders were tripped up 25-15 at home against the BC Lions in Week 1 while being outgained by a 391-to-235 margin in total yards. Calgary allowed 123 rushing yards on 24 attempts (5.1 yards per attempt). The good news is that it was a plus-2 in turnover margin.

The RedBlacks suffered a 19-12 setback in Montreal against the Alouettes at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium to kick off the season. Ottawa managed just 220 total yards of offense to 264 for the Alouettes. The RedBlacks managed 6 sacks while allowing just 1, but they also turned it over 5 times and ended up with a minus-3 turnover rate.

Stampeders at RedBlacks picks and predictions

Prediction

RedBlacks 22, Stampeders 19

Moneyline

OTTAWA (+180) is an outstanding value for a chance to nearly double up.

Calgary will cost you over 2 times your potential return, and that makes it extremely risky. The Stamps were pounded at home last week against the Lions, and that was with their leading rusher Carey available to play. He is out this week, so more pressure falls on QB Jake Maier to make things happen.

The RedBlacks turned it over 5 times last week, and that’s unlikely to happen again. Ottawa likely would have had a much better outcome on the road against Montreal if it could have limited the miscues. Expect better results in Week 2.

Against the spread

OTTAWA +6.5 (-110) is a strong play at home. The RedBlacks looked like a functional offense last week, outside of the 5 turnovers. The Stamps were a mess in the regular-season opener at home, and Calgary has no business laying near a touchdown on the road.

Over/Under

UNDER 43.5 (-110) is worth a look in this battle.

The Under cashed for both sides in the regular-season opener, with Calgary managing just 15 points of offense, and Ottawa going for just 12 points.

Until these teams start to show some better consistency on offense, keep banging the Under when these teams are playing.

Ottawa Redblacks at Montreal Alouettes odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Ottawa Redblacks at Montreal Alouettes Week 1 odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Ottawa Redblacks and Montreal Alouettes open their CFL seasons Saturday at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Redblacks vs. Alouettes odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The Redblacks missed the playoffs last year, going 4-14 straight up and 8-10 against the spread (ATS).

Ottawa QB Jeremiah Masoli will not return Saturday as he is recovering from a knee injury that he sustained vs. the Saskatchewan Roughriders last season.

The Alouettes finished 2022 with a 34-27 loss as 4-point underdogs at the Toronto Argonauts in the East final. Montreal had gone 9-9 straight up and 10-7-1 ATS in the regular season.

The Alouettes signed QB Cody Fajardo in the offseason. Fajardo finished with 16 TDs and 13 INTs as a member of the Roughriders in 2022.

Redblacks at Alouettes picks and predictions

Prediction

Alouettes 30, Redblacks 18

Moneyline

The Alouettes (-145) should be able to beat Ottawa without its 1st-string QB, but there is no need to pay the higher price on the moneyline when Montreal should win by more than a field goal. Lay the points and/or bet the total instead.

PASS.

Against the spread

The new-look Alouettes with Fajardo at QB should be able to cover this short line vs. the banged-up Redblacks. Montreal is 3-1-1 ATS in its last 5 home games and it is unlikely that Ottawa will beat the Alouettes at Molson Stadium for the 4th straight time.

BET ALOUETTES -2 (-115).

Over/Under

The Over has hit in 3 of the last 4 meetings between these teams. While Ottawa may struggle to score, Montreal should be able to take advantage of a Redblacks defense that allowed an average of 30.7 points over the last 6 games of 2022.

BET OVER 44.5 (-105).

Montreal Alouettes at Ottawa Redblacks odds, expert picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Montreal Alouettes at Ottawa Redblacks matchup, with CFL odds, lines, picks, predictions and best bets.

The Montreal Alouettes (1-2) visit the East Division rival Ottawa Redblacks (1-2) Friday in the first game of the CFL’s Week 5 schedule. Kickoff at TD Place is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Alouettes vs. Redblacks odds and lines and make our best CFL picks, predictions and bets.

Montreal and Ottawa have both taken back-to-back losses after opening their respective 2021 seasons with impressive road victories. Both sides have beaten the Edmonton Elks, with the Redblacks winning 16-12 in Week 1 and the Alouettes winning 30-13 in Week 2.

Since, Ottawa fell 23-10 against the Saskatchewan Roughriders and 24-12 to the BC Lions last week. Montreal took a 28-22 loss against the Calgary Stampeders and a 27-10 beatdown against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Week 4.

Alouettes at Redblacks odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Alouettes 20, Redblacks 18

Money line

Both the Alouettes and Redblacks enter Week 5 at relatively full health, with each side already having received a bye week. The Redblacks lost 24-12 in their home debut last week and can’t be considered to have much of an advantage against their nearest geographical rival.

However, the Alouettes can’t be bet at the -300 odds. It’s far too much chalk to swallow when backing a team off of back-to-back losses and a 10-point performance last week.

PASS on the money line.

Against the spread

Back the REDBLACKS +7.5 (-130) to keep it respectable and within 7 points at home.

Ottawa is last in the CFL by a considerable margin in points per game (10.7) and yards per game (198.7) but Montreal allowed a total of 55 points in its last two games and allows the second-most rushing yards per game.

The Redblacks average a league-worst 63.3 rushing yards per game but could get a spark Friday, which would help ignite the equally unimpressive passing attack.

Over/Under

UNDER 42.5 (-110) is an easy bet to make with Ottawa last in points per game and Montreal being held to a total of 32 points over the last two weeks.

The Redblacks’ 13 sacks allowed through three games is tied for the most in the CFL. Until they get some improved play along the offensive line, they’re no threat to the Over.

BC Lions at Ottawa RedBlacks odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s BC Lions at Ottawa RedBlacks matchup, with CFL odds, lines, picks, predictions and best bets.

The BC Lions (1-2) visit the Ottawa RedBlacks (1-1) Saturday for the second game of the CFL’s Week 4 with both teams looking to shake off a loss from last week. Kickoff at TD Place will be at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Lions vs. RedBlacks odds and lines and make our best CFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Lions fell 21-16 to the previously winless Edmonton Elks at home Aug. 19. They’ve alternated wins and losses through three weeks while QB Michael Reilly (elbow) has battled injury.

The RedBlacks upset the Elks 16-12 on the road in Week 1 but suffered a 23-10 road loss against the Saskatchewan Roughriders following a Week 2 bye. QB Matt Nichols has been a major disappointment with just 247 passing yards, no touchdowns and 1 interception through two games.

Lions at RedBlacks odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

RedBlacks 22, Lions 19

Money line

Back the RedBlacks (+160) as home underdogs against the banged-up Lions. In addition to Reilly being limited at practice all week, RBs James Butler (ankle) and Shaq Cooper (hamstring) were limited; WR Lemar Durant (knee) returned to a full practice Thursday.

Though Ottawa is struggling mightily to put points on the board, the defense has been strong and should be able to contain a Lions offense at less than full health.

Against the spread

If the money line upset prediction seems too brazen, back the REDBLACKS +4.5 (-120) with 4 points of insurance.

Ottawa hasn’t given up a passing touchdown through two games and is well-built to handle BC’s one-sided attack.

Over/Under

The UNDER 43.5 (-120) is the way to go on the low total. Both teams have injuries at key skill positions, Nichols has struggled to move the chains and Reilly has just 1 passing TD despite completing 71.6% of his passes for 673 yards.
